TACO TUESDAY PREP!!!! Ever had a taco shell made from PLAINTAINS?!? Go check out one of my favorite restaurants to grab tacos - TATAS!!!! Their plantain taco shells are absolutely sinful and I find myself CRAVING them!!! They even have CRAFT TACOS on their menu! The service was great; we loved our waitress and she gave great recommendations. The interior is modern with plenty of tvs around to catch any event that might be airing. ANNNDDDD on Tuesdays, you can get margaritas for $7!!! Head over to enjoy a taco and margarita on their new rooftop and tell 'em that Planes and Plates sent you! Enjoy!!!!

I really want to love this place because of the ambiance is awesome and they have a great rooftop. The service was very slow which was okay for us to an extent but there was a point that ALL the tables the servers had left upset because they waited a long time for their check. Ugh!!! The food!!! It was tasteless and VERY over priced like 3 tacos for $25?!?! We tried a little bit of everything. Honestly the appetizer were okay. The birria ramen and the shrimp fajitas were a big mistake and didn't have any type of seasoning. It was really hard for me to do this review. I wish they can do better with the taste, prices, and service. I hope the next we come back it will be better.

    That's a margarita!!!

VEGANS AND VEGETARIANS beware. You are about to have your mind blown by this unassuming WONDERFUL gem. Our friends here in Chicago live within walking distance and they said it's their favorite local spot. Their beans and rice are vegan and WOW so flavorful as are their side of veggies. I tasted both on their own as my friend got some of each as a side. She said the nachos were awesome so I was all in with that and totally fine to have those fabulous veggies with the nachos without cheese and crema. But then my husband ordered the burrito made vegan and Claudia, who I believe was our owner and our server, said we can make cauliflower Al Pastor for is burrito and he said YES PLEASE!! And I quickly said may I please ALSO have that? And she said OF COURSE!! While we waited on our food we played Scrabble, as there were several game options like Operation, Connect Four and a few others. We also had VERY good and HUGE drinks!!!! My husband had a margarita with some fun green coloring for St. Patty's Day. I got the Spicy Margarita which was AWESOME. It actually had some kick to it, as most "spicy" margaritas I've had can only claim the Tajin rim is spicy. Our friends had a spicy Paloma and a mojito both of which are their regular when they go. When the food came I couldn't believe the size of my husband's burrito!! It was MASSIVE. But one of THE best burritos we have ever had. So flavorful and so good. It had just bright flavor on all the aspects of the filling, a crunchy exterior and the hot sauces they gave us on the side were AMAZING. So tasty and again full of flavor. I always tell people that simple is often the BEST when it comes to plant based. And this place proves it. I got a SHOVEL!! My nachos came on a shovel. So super cool as I've never ever had food on a shovel! But man alive. Best in house made chips. Totally grease free, crispy and lightly salted so that you get flavor and crunch but not GREASE and an upset stomach. OR grease and WAY too much salt which steals the flavor of the food. The Al Pastor cauliflower was INCREDIBLE. So very good. I love spicy and I love good depth of flavor and we had it. What an incredibly delicious meal. Our service was 10/10, food was BEYOND amazing and it's just a super cute inside. I love the blue/light teal walls and the chalk tables to occupy both kids AND give a neat ambiance and just add to the fun casual vibe. Get yourself to Tata's IMMEDIATELY because they've got a sweet spot and they can feed ANYONE'S tastes!!

Tata's is off Irving park with street parking but u think there meat be other parking in the back as well. The tacos were good but nothing that stands out. I tried an assortment of different tacos and the birria was l the best out of them. The others didn't really stand out. Margaritas were pretty good, they can replace any tequila with mezcal, big fan of that. It seems they have a trivia day during the week. I think it would be cool to check out. They also have outdoor seating upstairs on the rooftop which is nice. Tata's is a cool spot but the food didn't wow me.

I couldn't love Tata's more! My husband and I came for the first time last week and we can't wait to go back! First can we talk about the decor? It's so cute in there! Frida Kahlo art all over-OBSESSED. There is also a cute rooftop upstairs and a room that can be rented out for parties. We got the empanadas which were devine. I can't decide what flavor was my favorite. Tinga, picadillo, chorizo and potato, & cheese and potato-all devine with the most delicious chimichurri dipping sauce. The chips and salsa were so tasty. For dinner we we for burritos. We made them wet-i had the red sauce and my husband had green. So yummy! We also had a side of elote. The servers were so quick, friendly and attentive. Also the owner Marci is amazing! She came over to greet us and make sure everything was wonderful. Best Mexican Restaurant I have been to in years! (I wish I got more pictures of the food-but we were too busy stuffing our faces)

$25 for 3 taco dinner. In Portage Park.

Want to love this place, but they make it difficult. I can't get over the prices. Over $10 for a small order of chips and salsa. Rick Baylee's himself would have a hard time pulling that off. And the tacos, while interesting, are $5-7 $25 for three taco dinner. Is this really what they charge in Portage Park? GTFO. No wonder they're struggling!

We sat outside for a weekday lunch. Don't think the inside was open for seating. The service was pretty slow, but I think there was only 1 waitress. Drinks: - Spicy margarita (4/5): solid margarita, love the fresh jalapeños inside. The time had a tajin like seasoning which was a great kick - Classic margarita (3/5): pretty basic, not very flavorful. Tasted almost watered down but was average overall Food: - Chips and ceviche (5/5): this hit the spot! The seafood tasted fresh, perfectly seasoned. The chips tasted homemade and fresh. And the salsa was great, love the green, the red was pretty spicy - Carne asada taco (3.5/5): steak taco was good but not great. Pretty big portion with lots of meat - Al pastor taco (4.5/5): this was my favorite, cooked and seasoned well

First and last time. Food overpriced and not that good. Chicken dry, enchiladas dry. Service was the worst we ever experienced. Our server Sandra (??) was almost non existent. Waited 15 minutes to get water and a menu from another server. Sandra took and delivered drink orders then disappeared. Although working all the tables around us she never came to take our order.(2 older women,). We had to wave down the other server who came over to take orders and subsequently serve them. No one ever asked if we wanted anything else or dessert etc. Had to wait another 20 minutes to even get a check which was wrong. Another wait to get it corrected at which point we decided first time for both of us -- no tip. However the check automatically added a gratuity although just 2 of us. Guess that's why the service wasn't too important to them because tip was included regardless. ONLY bright spot was entertainment. Hugo's Elvis performance was worthy of front row seats in Vegas! He was phenomenal!! We'll be following his upcoming appearances and try to see him at other venues. Never ever at TaTas again. Hugo 5 ++ TaTas 1very clean and pretty establishment is about best I can say about.

Like other newer reviews, the restaurant is gorgeous, the staff is friendly and attentive. Parking - in the rear, small & full. We parked on the street. Ambiance - dead, we were the only table for 1.5 hours. Right before we left, another couple came in (Wednesday dinner service). Food - I get it, Mexican with a twist. We order fajitas. The green/red pepper were on the raw side, large cuts. Had to requested a knife to cut my own peppers and make fajita tacos (see image). Shrimp is not fresh (taste frozen). Guacamole taste a lot like preservatives - hard to eat, couldn't eat it. Drinks - beer and peach tea. The tea arrived in a tall can. Prices - I'm ok with the menu prices, just give us quality food to match the price. For me, it's food quality. So many hopes & dreams invested here - Maybe Bar Rescue can help win clientele back?

We tried coming for Cinco de Mayo and it was a disaster. The demand was much higher than what they could produce. No big deal, I'll come back another day. And I did just that. Their service is great. I've never seen their staff not smiling, only thing I would say they need to work on is speed. The food took out a little longer than I would have wanted. They also have a lovely outdoor patio that you can enjoy on a sunny day. My son ordered carne Asada tacos. The beef was thick and very tender. Perfectly cooked and a must try. I ordered their "sirena." It came with bacon wrapped shrimp, pico de Gallo, pickled red cabbage, and chili aioli. The shrimp and bacon were perfectly cooked and tasted so delicious with all the ingredients. The taco is good on its own, the aioli and cabbage make the taco moist, so really no need to add salsa to make the taco even more runny. It's not needed and all the flavors are already there. My next taco "el chupacabra" sounded so good I had to order it. It came with their delicious carne asada, al pastor and chicken all in one taco. It also came with beans, rice, pickled onions and jalapeños. A very delicious taco and perfect idea to add three different meats to the taco. The red salsa goes well with this taco, but it is spicy. Would definitely both of these tacos again. Now before I get on to my next and last taco. I want to explain that I love spicy food. In just about every cuisine except for a few I eat it spicy. And the spiciest I've ever had would probably be a hot chicken sandwich in Nashville. So when I saw "la lorrona" on the menu, I knew I had to try it. First let me start with the translation for "llorona." Crybaby. The taco came with ghost pepper marinated chicken, lime pickled habanero & onions, topped with a toreado jalapeño all over rice and beans. Serving this thing should be illegal. It is no lie the spiciest thing I have ever eaten. It literally made me cry like a got damn llorona. I seriously doubt I'll order this again. Overall, they have a decent menu of tacos that you don't see at your traditional Taqueria, let alone at the higher up taco joints. I'll definitely be returning.

Service: We sat outside. They did a good job of maintaining a 6 feet distance from all tables. They use paper menus and menus on the phone. They were quick to pick up out meals and would always check in on us. Ceviche & Chips: amazing!! The sauce and the amount of seafood and veggies were perfect. Would go back to get this. Chicken tinga: this was okay. The meat was cooked well but I would pass on it next time. La llorona- very spicy this was made with ghost pepper seasoning. I couldn't eat the whole thing I knew my stomach would hate me later but if I could I would have. The kraken: this was good, it was PACKED with octopus, I ended up eating the ones that feel out of the taco with the left over chips. Sirena: this was interesting this was bacon wrapped shrimp. This was flavor I tasted more of the bacon than I did the shrimp but my fiancé enjoyed it. El chupacabra: my fiancé liked this one out of all of them. It has the perfect amount of flavors Red sangria: this tasted strong with a refreshing taste to it. Lime margarita: this was a little more on the sour side than in used to

Five stars for the wait staff and ambiance and three stars for the food. They have a back patio (which was really cute). Along with some outdoor seating in front and a small seating area inside. We ordered margaritas and beer. As someone else said the drink menu is extensive. The small margarita is in a normal size margarita glass. I ordered the lime and hibiscus margarita. The hibiscus had a bit of an artificial taste to me. I ordered the chicken Tinga and steak tacos along with the cactus side. All decent. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and having some drinks on the back patio on a nice night couldn't be better :)

Carry out during covid- one steak taco, one al pastor taco, 1/2 serving of rice and beans (shared with hubby).
    Salena C.

We got carry out during the covid-19 pandemic. The food was ready right on time, which is always a huge plus for us. My husband said they were relatively busy on a Saturday evening, so they have good time management! We noticed right away that the portions are pretty small, and definitely on the expensive side for being so small. My taco came in one tortilla (when I feel typical is two corn tortillas), and the meat and toppings were sparse compared to other places. The meat on both my steak and pork were fatty cuts, too, which I personally dislike. The side of rice and beans, as they mention, are 1/2 cup portions, so definitely order your own! Overall, it's decent! It's not that we didn't enjoy it, but given serving size and price, we would just prefer other spots in the neighborhood!

With that, my experience at Lake Effect Brewing Co. was fantastic. Though their beer menu isn't terrifically vast, they have a solid selection, with some options being delightfully creative! After trying a sample, I ordered a 5oz pour of a watermelon something (forgive me, I don't remember the exact name), a lovely brew that I greatly enjoyed sipping on their patio. Speaking of which, the patio is a surprisingly large and comfortable space. It's perfect for enjoying a cold one, especially when the weather is nice. Whether you're there on your own, with friends, or making brand new ones, the area is ideal! The only thing I'll mention is this: you know how, in a Chicago alley, you're never really alone thanks to the presence of certain 1-lb creatures. Because the patio borders an alleyway, you can't avoid seeing a couple of these guys running along the sides. As for the service, I really appreciated how friendly and welcoming the owner and his colleague were. There was also no problem trying a sample, which may be common in such places, but was nonetheless appreciated. Finally, in a world where everything costs an arm and a leg, I appreciate that their prices are reasonable. One of the things I love about local breweries is that there is always something new to try. With this, plus the friendly, comfy, and low-key vibe, I will absolutely be adding Lake Effect to the rotation of places where I am a regular.

It's been a boiling hot summer in Chicago this year, but somehow the four of us lucked into a mild August evening to drink beer in its outdoor patio. This time I enjoyed drinking Midnight in London, an amber ale with a spot of Earl Grey tea. Lake Effect has a hookup with Chicago Pickle across the street, so sure enough we enjoyed sandwiches along with the beer. The place is dog-friendly and friendly period - please give Lake Effect a try at the new location!

I thought it would be more like a brewery where one could spend some time hanging out and unwinding, a "third-place" kind of spot. When I showed up, I found that while there was a patio, it was the kind where you had to be seated by a host. Thus, unless you are at the bar, spontaneous conversations with strangers are less likely. With that said, Eris is a large brewpub with a full bar, including liquor and cocktails, as well as a robust food menu. Wanting only to try some ciders, I took a seat at the bar. I had the opportunity to try a 5-ounce pour each of the E-Phoria and the Van Van Mojo. Both were tasty. The E-Phoria was on the sweeter side, while the Van Van Mojo was less sweet (though not entirely dry) and unique with the addition of blueberries. Neither was mind-blowing, but both were enjoyable in their own right. The bar service was A-OK, especially considering it was a very quiet night. It was friendly and somewhat attentive. I appreciate that there are some closing-related duties that have to be done, and watching the two patrons at the bar like a hawk might make them nervous. Final Verdict: I think the trick with Eris is not to treat it as a "let me get a beverage and hang out" place, but rather a place for a sit-down meal and drinks. With that, I am hoping to return at some point with an empty stomach. However, to be 100% fair, I am not itching to break down the door and come back.
