I went there late on Monday night with my fiancée. I was glad to find a place where I could dine in late night since we both have busy schedules. It was not very crowded, but they were playing nice music and our server/bartender was incredible. We ordered taquitos and steak empanadas to start and they were fantastic! I will definitely be back for those and the shrimp pasta was also really good. I look forward to coming back for more delicious food and to dance. They also offer karaoke! :) read more

Boem is a gem. We came on Friday night around 6:30 and were shockingly the only customers. The owner's daughter was our server and was extremely kind and attentive. We both order margaritas and the balance was perfect - not too sweet and I could tell they didn't skimp on the liquor! It was happy hour and their Pollo con Tajadas was half off and did not disappoint! The chicken and plantains were cooked perfectly and the portion was huge! We also got mango ceviche and beef empanadas and both were delicious. I'm looking forward to coming back and hope more people give this place a try! read more

Boem looks like a mysterious place based on its dark, rocky exterior along Montrose, not too far east of Pulaski. Is it a bar? Restaurant? Nightclub? Apparently, all of the above. Boem was a Serbian place and then a Mexican place back in the day, but it is now run by a Honduran family since the pandemic. My love and I visited this establishment earlier this summer in search of some dinner. Jenny was our fine young server during our visit, and she showed pride in her family's establishment as she patiently described what they have to offer, including many of the Latin American food offerings. We started things off with a beer (me) and a Cosmopolitan (my love). We were also served some complimentary tortilla chips with salsa, and admittedly the chips were not that great. Jenny had another basket of chips delivered, and this second round tasted much better. I was drawn to order the Friday Happy Hour special - Pollo con tajadas. Seems the Happy Hour was literally one hour (from 6 to 7 PM), and we ordered a few minutes past 7 PM. Jenny let us slide and we were charged the discounted $7 for my dish (this price is an absolute steal, if they keep it on the daily specials listing). The ensemble of fried chicken and yummy fried plantain chips are covered with pickled veggies, cabbage, and spicy mayo. I would definitely order this dish again! Jenny noted that pollo con tajadas and the baliada that we ordered (it's a chewy flour tortilla filled with cheese, refried beans and sour cream) are both Honduran specialties, so I guess we selected well. My love and I also split a tasty steak empanada, and she loved her two shrimp tacos despite the chipotle mayo being a bit too zingy for her. As an unexpected treat, we were also served churros with dipping caramel sauce as a complimentary dessert - delicious. Although we ate indoors, we did take a peek at the outdoor patio in the back, which looks like a tranquil oasis in the urban hubbub of Albany Park. Hidden gem is an accurate way to describe Boem. It feels like a cross between a Euro-Latino dance club and a family restaurant. Bottom line, the food is great and very reasonably priced. They have a wonderful patio too. My wife and I had the mango margarita and the mezcalita, birria tacos, empanadas, quesadillas and guacamole. Jr, the manager, treated us to a shot of lavender Don Julio and churros, he showed us their patio and gave us the rundown of the restaurant's history. Overall a very cozy and fun experience, friendly service and great food. We'll definitely return and check out their patio. read more

Very friendly and helpful service. Our language group came here for one of our Meetups and found ourselves alone on a Friday night. Apparently things don't get moving until after 9pm or so. The weekends showcase live music and I'm sad I left early because I heard that one of our members got to sing some songs and now I'm jealous. But at least I was back with the Balkan hospitality for a night. Huge menu, but they don't always have all of the items prepared. No big deal, they have plenty more to choose from. Bring a hearty appetite, because you will most likely have left overs. Their sopska salata was one of the best I've had in Chicagoland. I wasn't as thrilled with my pljeskavica; however, the gulas and corba looked amazing. Cevapi smelled good too. More grilled meats than you could imagine. I can't wait to try the place again. Dessert and wine list is extensive, but they only had palacinke (crepes) that night. Don't come looking for decaf coffee either. Decaf is not in the Balkan vocabulary. Get with the program and grab a cup of Turkish or a nice glass of Vranac red wine. read more

Hubby and I tried Boem for the first time last night and we were pleasantly suprised. My first thought was that the place was smoky and out of date (which it is) however, the service we received far outweighed the atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly and helpful as she guided us through the cuisine since we were unfamiliar with it. The service is what bumped them up to a 4 star, our waitress was really that great! We ended up both ordering a beef soup, hubby ordered the "pork" sausages cavepa (sp?) and I ordered the stuffed chicken. The beef soup had good flavor, although I gotta admit because they use chicken broth the beef tasted more like chicken than beef but it clearly was beef. It was also huge, you could order that and eat it with the bread on the table and be full. The Cavepas were very good, almost like breakfast sausage but with a middleeastern flavor. I referred to them as "prok" sausage because they say pork on the menu but they are actually beef. The chicken was pretty good, though it needed seasoning it was prepared well and the cheese sauce was great! The fries that came with both entrees were also delicious. A friendly family run restaurant that makes some great classic Mexican dishes - tacos are flavorful and I'd put the chicken up there with anyone's. The outdoor patio is large, beautiful and has the most unique fountain in the city. You'll just have to see it. Finally, we ordered the hibiscus margarita. Hands down the best I've ever had. That is not real. They roast a pork and lamb on the front of you. I did not see that since 70's. Everything looks good and nice but: GARDEN? That no town have , what they have in restaurant Boem, unbelievable even for Rome, Paris and London Must see and enjoy. So this place is not Hungarian (as Yelp has it tagged). It's a Serbian place through and through. Went for dinner on Friday and the place was pretty empty- but it's clear it heats up later with a DJ and late night dining and drinking. Terrific cevapcici, sarma, kajmak, hot Serbian bread, Sopka salata.... all the usual Serbian suspects. Service was friendly and prompt. The space is great, too. Huge dark room with comfy tables and chairs, bar area, lounge area. Will definitely go back when the weather turns nice to sit on their huge patio in back. read more

Having just moved to Chicago I was disappointed when I found out my usual serbian restaurant from visits had closed. Have no fear Boem to the rescue. I've been here before, but it has changed....for the better. They improved the booths and the tables and if memory serves me correctly even moved the bar. If you're a vegetarian this is definitely not the place for you. Serbs eat meat and lots of it. They also roast whole lambs and pigs on the patio on a spit. If you want to experience the culture they have live music by their "house" band 5 out of 7 days a week. The singers have great voices and typically walk around the crowd while singing. Have a request? They'll do it, the keyboard players seem to know every song ever recorded and the singers have been known to pull lyrics up on a cell phone without skipping a beat. read more

Inside décor is rich and modern with marble tables, leather chairs, great wall art, new bar, and dancing floor. Boem also has an excellent outdoor patio that is perfect for relaxing with friends and drinking cocktails! The menu has a variety of the Serbian and American delicious dishes, from stuffed mushrooms, cheese crepes, fish, home cooked meals such as Karaoreva nicla - Serbian breaded cutlet dish stuffed with soft cheese, side dishes such as vegetable rice and roasted potatoes...etc! Great food, great drinks! There is also live Serbian music. Band we saw played a variety of songs from pop to folk music even songs from Adele!
