Tattoo and artwork by Barry San
    Alvina C.

I always feel like businesses in the second floor are highly sketchy for some reason...not sure why but that's usually my first initial thought. Tattoo Boulevard was the complete opposite of that. I had been following tattoo artist Barry San for the past year after seeing some work he had done on a performer at the Tiki Hut (I know so random) and loved it. I was finally ready to get a piece wanting to get some closure for the next chapter in my life. I had a consultation with him prior to scheduling my session and it was amazing. The space itself is very open and spacious and I felt comfortable as the walls were adorn with various art work from the different artists. My session was on a Sunday....meaning free street parking! From start to finish my experience was fantastic! The details, the vibes, so much unexplanable awesomeness...the design/detail completed piece was more than I could've imagined. Highly recommend Barry San for his dotwork and intricate lines...and overall fab chill vibe.

I just moved to Chicago and was in search of tattoo artists to get my sleeves going. I stumbled upon John Bass' Instagram page and instantly fell in love with his work. Let me tell you...this guy is TIMELY when it comes to replying to clients and made it so easy for me. I basically just sent him my reference photos for ideas along with a photo of where I wanted the tattoo placed and we were able to plan a date and time within a week. The shop itself was super spacious and clean. I came on a Monday (appointment only) and loved that it wasn't crammed. John took his time answering all of my questions and gave great input when I was torn between placement. He put his own spin on my original idea and offered suggestions on what he thought would make the tattoo look best. I could tell he actually cares about how a tattoo looks on a person as opposed to just doing exactly what the client wanted and collecting his $$$. During the tattoo, we didn't have much conversation but I just let him be in his zone-- it wasn't awkward at all. He always made sure I was comfortable and okay to continue. I sat for about 3.5 hours. He surprised me with adding white detailing which I was not expecting at all but was something I always wanted on my tattoos so it ended up being perfect actually. I can definitely see myself coming to John for future ink!

The shop just opened up and I have to say I'm very impressed. It is super clean and spacious. Everyone is super friendly. They have 2 piercers and 7 artists. My artist is Angel who is also the owner of the shop. He is very professional and his work is exceptional. This coming from a girl with 29 tattoos. There is a lot of parking around. Also a parking lot that is pay on weekdays but free on the weekends.

So good! I got my first two tattoos here from Luke. I found him on instagram after searching for someone for awhile. He was super nice and it was easy to make an appointment. My mom and I got matching words on our wrists. He gave us multiple options for sizing and placement. I also got a butterfly on my ankle. I hadn't even thought of it, but he offered to do details in white which I love and look so good. I came back recently with my cousin. I wasn't getting a tattoo but I just went with her. Luke recognized me and took a picture of my now-healed tattoo. My cousin's tattoo looks awesome too, he again did an incredible job. All of our tattoos healed super well and look great.

Firstly, the shop itself is stunning, spotless, great vibe, great flow and no shortage of beautiful artwork to look at. I could honestly take a nap in the lounge/waiting area, its that comfortable. All the artists and team members there are very welcoming and accommodating, it makes you feel confident and comfortable in their environment. So... A+ to start with. I was lucky enough to land a session with Adrian Morales, and let me tell you, this dude is a master and a true artist. I came in with a good idea of what I wanted and after consulting with Adrian he added ideas that blew my mind and made it even better. Adrian takes his craft very seriously, he puts everything he has into every piece of art he creates, he has an amazing style and will work with you to infuse that style to create a beautiful piece of art. That being said, don't expect to go in there with a plain piece of clip art and expect him put that on your body, like I said Arian is an artist, and there are plenty others that will tattoo clip art. Adrian leaves you with a piece of him that you will carry forever, he takes pride in that and will do whatever it takes to make that art perfect. So in conclusion, if you want to go on a journey to get the best piece art possible, i suggest you go see Adrian. Just take it slow, be patient, and let the man create something you both will love and be proud of. I will definitely be returning to this shop and I'm taking my friends with me. I'm not meaning to take away from any of the other artists at Tattoo BLVD, they are all amazing artists, all with unique styles that is sure to meet anyones needs.

I had such a great experience! I contacted Luke via his website and he was quick to answer on Instagram as well. The appointment came and was so smooth and Luke was perfectly prepared! I absolutely love my tattoo and it's very special to me. Thanks so much Luke, you're the best!!

So I already told you guys we got tattooed yesterday. I failed to mention though how fucking amazing this shop was. Tattoo Boulevard was one of the coolest shops I've ever been in. They have such an awesome atmosphere filled with art and chill vibes. Kiddo Castillo did another amazing job on my tattoo! Once again I'm super thrilled with the outcome of his work. We were in such great spirits from this place we actually got piercings before we left too. Marina made my conch piercing so quick and painless, I couldn't believe it. If you're looking for an artist/shop in Chicago I can't recommend this artist enough!

Absolutely awful experience with Adrian Morales. I went to him because the first time he did a good job with a script on my back. He was super easy to work with. The second time I went for a portrait. He showed up two hours late for the appointment. I was the first of the day. The portrait had a script underneath. He had trouble writing it on paper and then I verbally spelled it out. He seemed confused and I frustratingly took the paper from him and spelled it out. "Do what thou wilt." He was writing "do what though wilt." Really... Thinking the matter was settled I was happy. Until after I was horrified that It contained his original spelling mistake that I had corrected twice before. No wonder he cropped out the script from his Instagram because he realized his mistake. He did not own up. Accused me of making the mistake. And blocked me on IG as well as removed the original image which I screenshotted before he took it down. He also left a lot of scarring as you can see.

Chicago Picasso - Barcelona Sagrada Familia. Tattoo by Miguel Mercado at Tattoo Blvd.

I just wanted to write a quick review of my experience getting my first -and second!- tattoo here with the great Miguel Mercado. My buddy and I came here to get Miguel's stamp. We set an appointment and when we arrived the wait was short. Miguel was very nice and listened to what we wanted. For my particular tattoo, he redesigned his stamp and included what I wanted, which is the Picasso sculpture located at the Daley Plaza. This was my first tattoo. I was not nervous or anything, and if I have to describe the pain for starters, I'd say something like 2 or 3 in a scale of 10. When you are getting the tattoo, it feels like they are slicing bread with a knife. The day after, it felt like a sun burn, a very bad one. Again, the pain never went beyond 3 in a scale of 10. I understand pain is a very subjective feeling, so for every individual it is different. I was very happy with my first tattoo. It healed in 10 days following the given instructions, and it looks great! A month later I went back to see Miguel again for my second tattoo. This time, I wanted a stamp of Barcelona, the city I was born in. So I have the couple of cities I love: the city I was born in, and the city that adopted me. For Barcelona, it was very clear to me I wanted the Sagrada Familia temple on it. I kind of wanted the Catalan flag as a background also, but I did not know where to place it. Miguel went the extra mile and spent whatever time necessary to find the best fit. Incredibly, he came with a design that resembled the Antoni Tapies art, which is a Catalan artist I am very fond of. So there you go, as you can see in the pictures I uploaded, I have the two cities I love "stamped" on my back. I recommend Tattoo Blvd, and I particularly recommend Miguel to get a tattoo. My experience went great, and I am very happy with my tattoos! Thanks for reading! UPGRADED REVIEW, MARCH 2018 Heads up! Miguel Mercado is no longer an artist at Tattoo Boulevard. You can find him now at Old Town Tatu, 3313 W Irving Park Rd, Chicago, IL (773) 442-8288

First time coming here and I already want to come back! Everyone's so nice and welcoming, overall awesome vibes when I was there. John Bass did an amazing job on my scorpion line tat!! I definitely recommend this shop 100% :)

This is the best shop in Chicago my artist is Adrian Morales I highly recommend him. In six months he completed two religious black and grey sleeves. Honestly, this has been the greatest time to connect with such a talented individual his very professional, humble and skills are just breathtaking amazing. I'm so proud to say that tattoo boulevard is the greatest shop I have ever experienced. Lastly, my artist does the best lettering in all of Chicago that's a fact.

The space was comfortable and clean, and everyone was so nice and helpful. I got an arguably silly tattoo, but they took it seriously from start to finish! I've felt awkward about asking for weird or specific tattoos before, but I felt so at home and respected here, even being from out of town! It was an easy and fun experience, and the cost was well below what I expected to pay for a quality tattoo in this day and age, especially work as nice as I got. I'm not local to the area so I can't say if I'll be back anytime soon, but will definitely be recommending this lovely shop to my friends in the region!

The store is bright, spacious and clean. The girls at the front desk were friendly and helpful. Cody was my piercer and was fantastic. He saw me right away, went over everything and was very kind and professional. He gave me his contact information if I had any follow up questions. Was super excited to get my industrial re-pierced but had to walk out because of their problematic and unprofessional employees. Before I even walked in, I could see the piercer laying down on the chairs (first red flag). During the consultation she was actually knowledgeable, nice, and made me feel comfortable even though she talked me out of re piercing my industrial saying it was an "advanced" piercing. I figured maybe too advanced when she's half asleep so for my own safety I went with my gut feeling and agreed with her simpler suggestion which I was still excited to get: a mid helix. However by the time I got to the front desk- whose only job is to gather the information the piercer gave them and proceed with checkout- the interaction somehow became more painful than getting any piercing done. The employee kept acting extremely puzzled (kept saying "I'm confused" to my answers to her OWN questions)... how is that even possible? Then every time I asked a simple question about jewelry design, it was the same response: "I'm confused", in addition to unnecessary attitude. I've worked with people with actual cognitive delays and it was very obvious this wasn't the case. They just wanted to be difficult for no reason because not only was she acting confused and being rude, she was also talking about me to her coworker which also proceeded to give me attitude and be passive aggressive. I saw one of them come back from talking to the piercer and then all of a sudden the piercer changed her mind and said she could go ahead with the industrial piercing -No thank you! That's when I matched their energy and expressed I wasn't comfortable with their behavior before trusting them with my body and doing something invasive, apologized to the piercer and walked out to that same employee saying " I hope you have a beautiful day". I was indeed having a beautiful day until I walked in and had to deal with their ugly attitude and continued to have a beautiful day as soon as I stepped out. Maybe they need to start embracing beauty into their lives instead of being intimidated by positivity and projecting their frustrations on customers- after all, people get piercings for a variety of positive reasons not because they hate themselves. Maybe try matching the customers energy next time. Respect yourself, your energy and your body and go somewhere where actual professionals won't use you like a guinea pig to project their frustrations, sadism, hate and incompetence on. If this is how they really treat people, let alone potential paying customers, they need to be in a therapist's office, not a piercing shop.
