As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Juice. She had a bubbly personality and was eager to answer every question I had. She made sure I got exactly what I came for by helping me find the ideal ring size and materials for me. Then I was passed over to Matty, my piercer. I could tell right away that she had a ton of experience. She made me feel super comfortable while also making sure I had all the information I needed before getting pierced. The actual piercing process was super quick and smooth, which made the experience even better. I honestly can't wait to go back for my 6-8 week check-in. Salesperson was not great... she didn't seem interested in being much help, to be honest. But I was in a bind in that I woke up that morning and found the end of my nostril piercing had disappeared, needed a new end quick since I can't find the old jewelry I used, and this was the closest option--so with little time to spare, I came to IRIS. They don't actually have a really large collection, but they do have some that go beyond colored CZ "starter jewelry" and that's what I needed. The dude who put it in was nice though. If you're looking for a piercing and not just here to shop for jewelry, you'll need to make an appointment. Parking is street only on Lincoln (using the parking meter) or the side streets, so it'll depend upon when you're visiting whether parking will be a pain. read more

I first went into IRIS for some help removing a few earrings that hadn't been taken out for a couple years and were stuck. They were great and I ended up going back to get a new conch piercing I had been considering for a few years. Maddie was super knowledgeable, clearly a true pro. The actual piercing took maybe 30 seconds max and was painless besides the initial poke (honestly found it to be very mild). I'm about 6-7 weeks post-piercing and it's been the least painful, easiest healing process I've ever had. I have not even felt the piercing except for the few times I've bumped it. I thought I was done with new piercings at this point in my life but I'll probably go back for more because they've made the process so easy! read more

I only had trouble with the time schedule for another time zone, but I can't say they didn't warn me! Omar listened well to what I was hoping to have done, reopen several old holes that had partially closed. He gave me a few options to consider based on time preference and costs. I had Omar and Juice do my septum with my bestie also getting the same piercing. I was never rushed, I laughed a lot and was given ample time to compare metal colors. When it was time to sit down and get pierced Omar was incredibly sweet and cool saying, "it's totally normal to be nervous!" And making me and my friend feel very safe. Thaw prices are crazy gig but they're high everywhere in the city and this is one of the few places that will put in hoops instead of barbells for septum piercings. read more

Made an appointment here for an ear styling when I knew I would be visiting from out of town. Upon setting foot in the studio, I immediately felt at ease. Charlotte was super helpful and asked all the right questions to understand the look I was going for. The styling session was collaborative and fun! Kira was my fabulous piercer. She thoroughly walked me through the sterilization for the piercings after I had selected my pieces. She talked me through the whole process and made me feel super comfortable. I had decided on a few lobe piercings and a forward helix in my right ear (see image), and she did an incredible job. The price is up there but I would pay it again. Casual Sunday stroll close to home and when the customer service woman open the door she was very rude and looked me up and down which I was really taken back by. I simply asked a few questions and clarified how appointments worked. Her tone was elitist and her attitude was extremely unfriendly. worst customer service I recall having. I was once Iris's biggest fan, despite the high price points, their jewelry and environment are top-notch and I'm a believer in quality piercings! Sadly, I have found that this studio is unable to take customer feedback in a meaningful way and has opted to deliver unreasonable bans in the face of mild displeasure on my part. On December 21st I had a 4:30PM appointment. I live in the burbs, so I knew it would take at least an hour and a half to get to my appointment. I left my home around 3, with a GPS confidently saying I'd arrive 5 minutes ahead! By the time I had been on the road for an hour, though, my GPS had quickly changed to show that I'd now be arriving 8 minutes late. Not wanting to panic, I called the shop and they informed me if I was any later than 10 minutes my entire appointment would be canceled (they do have this listed in their agreement terms as well, just to add!). The person I spoke to was matter-of-fact and unsympathetic to my hour in traffic, but I figured I still had those valuable 2 minutes and pressed on ahead! At 4:40, I was showing 7 minutes away still and so I called again, frustrated by traffic and the inflexibility of the piercing studio. The person I spoke to this time spoke over me as I explained the situation, taking a tone that said without saying directly: "didn't you read the fine print, dumbass?" I tried to speak to her, but in the end had to ask "can I talk now?" She relented in at least letting me jewelry shop, but I asked if there was any way for me to still get the piercing quickly if I knew which jewelry I wanted. She waffled on this a bit, and I figured it was the nicest way to say "no" without actually saying it. I ended up arriving at 4:47, not ideal, I'd spent an hour and a half in the car, and felt absolutely gutted. I put on the mask provided, get into the studio, ask one more time, but ultimately accept it's just jewelry shopping today. It's fine, I'm sad, but I decide I'll get the piercing itself elsewhere since I had amped myself up for it! That meant I could spend the next 13 minutes jewelry shopping and find some awesome quality jewelry to substitute out after the piercing healed. Frustrated? Yeah. Unhinged? Absolutely not, haha! The woman helping me shop was also the woman who talked over me on the phone, but we both were at the end of a long day. She offered to reschedule my piercing without having me pay the deposit again, which was kind of her, but after the hellish journey and unpleasant phone calls I declined. "I'm not sure if I want to reschedule right now, I don't feel good about how tonight went" She pushed me for more details, very pleasantly, and I expressed that I felt our conversations had been unpleasant and unprofessional, so I wasn't in a hurry to come back after the drive from hell but still was fine purchasing some jewelry. We ended up being fine, had a back and forth about why I didn't enjoy our conversation, but ultimately I purchased around $200 of jewelry. I love the piece, it's very nice, and we even ended it pleasantly by joking about how I got so many text messages the moment I handed over my phone to use a giftcard I'd been gifted for my purchase. (That's how much I like the place, people buy me giftcards.) Fast forward to today, I got another giftcard for Christmas from a family member. I suck it up, accept that last time wasn't the best, but I do love this place - so I try to book a faux rook appointment. The message? "You have been banned from all Iris Piercing locations." I'm sitting here a little confused and very frustrated again, I don't understand how quickly we went from rescheduling my appointment to now being banned. The inflexibility and inability to take even an iota of criticism makes this location feel... too exclusive for my tastes. I'm interested in putting my money in piercing parlors that are more receptive to their customers, offer a more human approach, and ultimately don't place bans on folks who didn't cause a scene, yell, or even not show up. I expressed mild disappointment in our conversations and now I can't show my face again, which is kinda funny in retrospect considering their business model focuses on inclusivity, people first, and quality. Thankfully, there are so many fantastic piercing studios nearby. I recommend the following in place of Iris Piercing Studio: Chicago Ink Tattoo & Body Piercing: I got my nipples, septum, nostril, and tongue pierced here. Fair prices, good quality, and people focused. Luxe Piercing Boutique: a place for us suburban folks! I got my industrial and belly button done here. Higher prices, unique jewelry, and so great at calming my nerves Identity Body Piercing: I got my nipple jewelry changed out here, it was a fantastic experience with very unique and high-end jewelry options! Find places with people who make you feel comfortable. Iris is more elitist than anything, and sadly it's too obvious for me not to comment on now. read more

I am really upset about my experience at IRIS Chicago. I originally met with the piercer Maddie, tried to explain the kind of piercing I wanted since it was a little more complicated, but unfortunately, I had a really hard time communicating with her and was pretty surprised by the way I was treated. She ended up doing the piercing incorrectly. I reached out to some of the other people at IRIS, who said they would do the correction for no additional cost (which is why I am least giving it 2 stars!). I went back to have it removed by the other piercer, Oscar and explained the situation. He said they could do a correction in two months once the hole had healed, but unfortunately, I will likely just forego the $86 I had spent there and just go somewhere else. I think it is important to be able to communicate with someone who is making a semi-permanent change to your body and that was not something this place was able to do with me. read more

I just brought my daughter to Iris for the second time. As expected, it was a phenomenal experience. After how positive it was during her first piercing there, we have sent a number of family and friends. Everyone says the same thing. The people who work at Iris are kind, well trained, professional and skilled. Today, we brought in an earring that had been broken during a medical procedure. They immediately replaced it and made us feel welcomed and cared for, even though we weren't planning on purchasing anything. I will only do piercings at Iris. read more

So they sold me a $275 earring for an old helix piercing I had that caused me immense pain and irritation. When I went in for a troubleshooting appointment they informed me that my original piercing "was poorly pierced" and that the earring they sold me was inappropriate for it and that I could buy ANOTHER earring that might make it feel better or they could take it out but that they couldn't offer me an exchange. How absolutely ridiculous why would you willingly sell somebody an earring that you know wouldn't work for a particular piercing? It's ill-intentioned and money hungry. Go to a reputable piercing/body jewelry shop that will advise you on what is actually best for you. read more

5 years ago I had gotten a triple helix cartilage piercing with 3 screw back earrings. Being a 19-year old collegiate idiot, I had taken my piercings out for a volleyball game during the healing phase (note: don't be an idiot & let your ears heal fully). I managed to get normal earring studs to slide in that you'd usually put in your lobes. And this is how they stayed for 4 years. Fast-forward to this week - I had finally had enough. I bought some fancy over-ear headphones, and I couldn't wear them without the backs of the earrings stabbing my head. I decided to stop into IRIS on a Friday afternoon. I was immediately greeted by 2 young ladies who listened to my story and led me to the earrings I could choose from. Although they were out of the rose gold opal studs I had wanted, I was not deterred and selected another opal. I was then shown the price - keep in mind, you get what you pay for, people.... seriously. I then was led into the piercing room which was comfortable and clean. As the piercer took out my old earrings and cleaned my ears, I had asked for some notice so I could prepare myself for the piercing pain. Laughing, she said she already had one in. The relief I felt at that moment was unreal and I'm still kicking myself for waiting this long to get them re-done. I just love this place! My piercer Ali and counterperson Charlotte were so informative, kind, knowledgeable, and professional. I had a piercing done on my nostril at a different shop out of state. After two months, an irritation bump wouldn't leave me alone. My piercing was angry. I did all the saline washes, didn't pick at it, and didn't snag it on anything. It just wouldn't go away. When I went in to Iris for a downsize I explained how much difficulty I had with the piercing process. Ali explained that my piercing was at a harsh angle and went over my options. Knowledge with service is paramount. They advised I take it out to let them bump heal OR we go with a shorter piece of jewelry. They didn't make me feel silly or dumb; just informative. I decided to go with a shorter bar, and not even 24 hours later, the bump is shrinking. This type of service is what we all strive for. The staff here were all very professional and friendly. Give the current circumstances with COVID, I was glad to see the staff wearing masks and gloves and sanitizing everything that was touched. This establishment isn't a Claire's or piercing pagoda. Much better with a higher price tag but the experience is worth it. I brought my daughter here to get her ears pierced for the fourth time after Developing an infection from places like Claire's and piercing pagoda. When you walk in here you feel like you're in an art gallery; it's set up so beautifully. Until stepping foot in here i didn't realize just how many different and beautiful pieces you can adorn your body with. I walked in to get my daith pierced and was astounded by the beautiful choices they have. That's the beauty of it here, you have so many choices compared to the normal tattoo shop. The girls who helped me out really worked with my budget and made me feel so comfortable and the experience getting pierced was great. One of my ears partially closed up and not wearing a earring for a spell. When I called for an appointment they were very pleasant & said if it wasn't closed completely they 'may' not even charge me. I went in and had to wait at least an hour and the piercer guy said it def was closed. Here's the rotten part. I had to buy a pair of studs made outta a certain material that cost quite a bit...$90. This was for only one one hole to be reopened. I asked if I could bring in a 14k or 18k gold stud they could use....but they said no. It's a nice looking place with cute earrings to choose from....but if you're on a budget like I am this place will bleed you dry. To reopen 1 ear for 90 bucks is ridiculous. If you've got the money go for it. I sure can't and wouldn't even shell out that amount even 'if' I could afford it. read more
