Omg, this place is amazing!!! Having a hard time with the menu? Just ask the gentlemen taking your order to put food and wine in your mouth and you will not be disappointed! Our trip started in Rome then to Florence and finally to Venice. This was the only place during our entire trip that was so memorable and tasty (restaurant wise). Very good wine selection. Very tasty starters. We had tartare, filet mignon, carpaccio and gnocci. All with a lot of Black truffle on top. The tartare was decent, steaks good. But the gnocci and carpaccio was dissapointing. The waiter was more busy giving us coupons and promotions than serving us. read more

Ok, if there is one restaurant you absolutely have to visit next time you're in Rome, this one is it! I don't even have the words to describe the amazingness of this place. From the cozy vibe, to the awesome Francesco-Maria (owner), and the phenomenally generous portions of black truffles, this restaurant might go down as one of my favorites GLOBALLY! We came here looking for yummy truffles after 2 weeks of delicious food across Italy, and boy did Taverna Lucifero deliver. We started with the duck and burrata dishes (both amazing) as well as a bottle of wine that Francesco-Maria picked out for us. We then had the potatoes (yum), the pasta with black truffle (holy freaking yum), and the fillet mignon truffled up to the max (died and gone to heaven level of yum). It was a phenomenal meal that ended with tiramisu, sweet wine (moscato) and cookies on the house. I really can't speak highly enough of this place except to URGE YOU to go the next time you're in Rome!! Can't wait to go back the next time we're in the city! read more

This the most amazing restaurant. Gotta go during truffle season. I had the veal skalopinni that was cooked to perfection. The staff is great and make you feel at home with suggestions for paring wine with the different food dishes. Don't forget desert the Tiramisu is really good served in a bowl. ** This review is for CANTINA LUCIFERO on Via del Pellegrino** We came here under the recommendation of a friend, and it certainly did not disappoint. The specialty here is truffles (which they bring tableside as they hand you the menu so you can bask in the aroma). Just FYI -- truffles can be added to any dish for a few extra Euros (the average price for entrees was around 15 Euros). The best part of our meal was the appetizer -- I can't remember what it's called, but it was near the bottom of the appetizer menu page. It consisted of bread, a thin slice of duck, and truffle-infused honey. This dish deserved 5 stars just in itself. I'm actually trying to re-create this dish in the States. Unfortunately, it was so good that it somewhat spoiled the rest of the meal. My hubs and I also ordered lasagna bolognese and a marinated (veal?) dish. Both were excellent, but again, overshadowed by the appetizer. We shared tiramisu at the end which was a nice touch. The damage -- only 50 Euros. Highly recommend. read more

Went here with our family of 5 for dinner. The service was exceptional - very warm and helpful. Cheese fondue was ordered to share, and it was good with sautéed veggies for dipping. Kids liked their ravioli. My fusilli with eggplant really upset my stomach and hubby's veal with mushrooms was bland. Wine was great, but I hate not knowing ahead what something costs. OMG the food , the service, the ambiance, the window choices, and did I say the food. I have never had such an extraordinarily special experience in my 59 years . The ravioli' s were supreme. Eggplant was cooked to perfection . Hearty, tasty, crusty bread that needed no butter. I believe that as much as I can brag over the food, it was the service that made this restaurant so very special. I felt as though I was eating with family . Over 700 wine choices . I can't remember the last time I had such a feel-good meal. Everything was perfect. We arrived at the suggestion of a friend and did not have a reservation. FrancesoMarie welcomed us in with open arms and said a table would be available outside shortly. It felt nice to simply be seen. His hospitality did not stop there. At his suggestion, we had the filet with truffle and pasta with truffle. Both were amazing. We split a dessert and he gifted an after dinner drink to each of us. He has such a genuine nature about him that reflects in the restaurant. Aside from the food, the wine list is unpretentious and superb also. We simply stumbled upon this unbelievable gem in Rome! The food was stellar and the se vice was beyond what we have exactly exited! Lilo was superbly attentive and made sure that his wait staff was right on point. The black truffle filet was devine as was every other dish we tasted. If your taste buds are still alive and truly enjoy savory dishes and if your olfactory senses love the scent of food preparation, then you have no excuse for not dining at Taverna Lucifero. Great owner and wait staff and an incredible selection of delectable dishes to choose from, at incredibly reasonable prices. To begin...the wine... a rich and velvety 2013 Masi brolo campofiorin oro. My nephew and I began dining with a plate of mixed vegetables and buffalo mozzarella with small tomatoes. From there we moved on. Delightfully so. He had a plate of pasta with white truffles and I could not resist the filet mignon with black truffles, along with a side of roasted potatoes. The taste of the filet was amazing with a splendid sauce! You know when people talk about melt-in-your-mouth, right? Yes! This is it! I stretched out eating it as long as I could but, alas, all great meals must come to an end. Well, maybe. Then along came a plate full of cookies coupled with a glass of moscato. All of this was then made whole and complete with with very yummy tiramisu for him and out-of-this-world dark chocolate mousse for me. This was a great, a fabulous, dining adventure, full of incredible tastes and reasonable charges. During my whole trip to all of Italy this little place was seriously the best of them all. I'm currently still dreaming about the meals I had at this place. The owner of the joint is a character. He comes up and personally explains each dish on the menu and how they prepared it that day. The pasta is all home made, and many of the ingredients are extremely authentic, natural, and simple. This is Roman food at its roots. Anything with more than 5-6 ingredients is adding pain to something just so good. The place is quiet and quaint compared to the hustle and bustle of Rome. You feel more like a friend than a customer. And really, my wife and I ate there for under 40 euros each time we did. All the wine is paired with your dish personally, and their limonchello is homemade. Best place in Rome if you ask me. read more

Amazing! I am back a few days and have been dreaming of my white truffle veal and pasta with white truffle. It was like nothing we have ever had. The owner is an interesting and nice guy, he gave us a good wine pairing and dessert wine! Shaved the truffle right on our dishes and seriously like nothing you will ever try. An excellent value and meal, we wish we had found out about it earlier in our visit. If I am ever lucky enough to find myself in Rome again I will eat here nightly! GO! read more

Taverna Lucifero - Veggie and tomato and mozzarella appetizers! - Italian Near Me - Rome, RM

We came here on the last night of our vacation in Italy and wish we did so earlier so that we could return and try other dishes! Both the waiter and waitress were very friendly and took time to explain the menu to us. We liked the tiny but cosy atmosphere of the restaurant as it seemed like less of a tourist trap. We ordered: - Smoked duck breast with homemade honey (this was quite unique and was very tasty) - Roasted potatoes (seemed like every table ordered it. It was well done and seasoned. Not salty) - Taglioni with white truffle (basically an olive oil, garlic spaghetti with a generous amount of white truffle shaved in front of you. It was pretty good with the perfect amount of seasoning. Many restaurants seem to dump a ton of salt into their dishes) - Taglioni with white ragu sauce, minced meat, and mushrooms (I really liked it as it again was perfectly seasoned) With a bottle of water and no cover charge, our bill came to Eur 33 which was a bargain. They even gave us complimentary dessert wine and meringue puffs. We much preferred this place over the highly rated Osteria de Fortunata at the adjacent corner of Campo dei Fiori. We would definitely recommend and return here next time we are in Rome. read more

This little hidden gem was a great experience. We were treated like family from the moment we walked in, with a big hello and complimentary Prosecco. The owner walked through all menu items explaining them and hand picked our wines. We had the antipasti, osso bucco, and gnocchi in white cheese sauce. All were fabulous, including the wine. I have been to this restaurant twice. The owner is very nice as well as the staff. It is a very small restaurant so reservations are definitely recommended. Both times I ordered the fonduta Piemontese with white truffles...it is amazing. The owner shaves the white truffles into the cheese at the table. They give you roasted potatoes to dip in the cheese, absolutely heaven. I have also had the beef fondue which is very good. They have pastas and other dishes but the fondue steals the show! read more

This was the highlight for food and service during our trip through Italy. The stumbled upon it while walking around and shopping during the day and called to make a reservation - largely because we loved the name. We hand't heard anything about the place. Walking into the place, we were seated close to the kitchen and knew it was a good choice since the prosciutto was being carved fresh by the order. There was a group of 7 of us and the owner came out to greet us and walk us through the menu. We ended up ordering and sharing a handful of things from the menu and the owner helped us by suggesting (which we happily obliged and are thankful we did!) a few added items that paired with our choices. He has about 500, yes 500, different bottles of wine that he helped pair for us to go with the meal. Between plates, the staff shared stories (in multiple languages as our table was multilingual) and ensured the kitchen added a few extra tastes to the normal portions because there were 7 of us all sharing. We ended up closing down the restaurant with the staff over several rounds of their home made limoncello. A truly wonderful experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Rome. This review is actually for Cantina Lucifero -- same owner, but this restaurant is at via del Pellegrino, a block away from the one on via del Cappellari. We got into Rome on my birthday and after a bit of a stroll around, but without doing any online research, the two of us set out in search of somewhere to eat for my birthday dinner. Cantina Lucifero looked sweet, but not very lively so we passed it by. But after doing a round of the Campo de Fiori area and deciding we most definitely didn't want to eat at one of the touristy looking places on the square, we went back to Lucifero. So glad we did. It's not the kind of place we usually eat--it was quite plain inside, the patrons were mostly in their 50s and up, the music was an odd selection of 80s soft rock hits--but we had a lovely time all the same owing mostly to the owner. From the moment we sat down, Marco made us feel like we were a guest in his home. He brought us complimentary prosecco to start the evening off. After we'd ordered, he sat down with us and explained which wines we might like with the meal and why. In general, he took the time to talk with us, even just chat a little, like an old friend. He seemed to do this with all the tables and everyone seemed to go home as happy as we were. All that and the food was wonderful, deceptively simple, handmade, fresh--it was one of the best meal we had in Rome in our four days there. read more

Best food in Rome - must get the honey truffle oil and I loved my lemon veal scaloppini.

When we first came to Rome in 2010 our neighbors said we absolutely must come here and let the owner decide what we should order. We did just that and had an amazing meal. So when we returned to Rome this last June, it was our only "must have" restaurant. It's located steps from Campo de Fiori - one of our favorite piazzas and has a beautiful rustic interior. Not too big and not too small. Once again we were not disappointed! I forget the owner's name (Lillo?), but he is wonderful in every way. Hospitable, knowledgeable, funny and he puts up with my attempt at Italian (though he speaks excellent English). We decided to have Fondue this time, but he also put together a platter of fresh vegetables then an amazing pasta with black truffles for the starter. The fondue was superb! All portions were large and couldn't finish everything. He recommended wine pairings and then gave us delicious limoncello. The bill was very, very reasonable given the quality of the food, the portions and of course the experience. The were moving around the first of July to a location "around the corner" so check the address carefully. Like most restaurants in Italy/Europe, they fill up later in the evening, so either make a reservation or go when they open at 7pm. read more

I LOVE Cantina Lucifero! When my family and I went there, it was not that crowded. The atmosphere was between noisy and quiet, and there was music playing in the background. The owner of the restaurant started joking with us as we sat down. For starters, we had two glasses of water(sparkling and still), and two glasses of red wine. For starters, we had the prosciutto and brie plate and the prosciutto and a piece of toast with honey. The prosciutto and the brie are a very excellent combination together! And the prosciutto and the honey are a great combination together, and makes a very sweet taste in your mouth! Then for mains, I had the veal meatballs with tomato sauce, my mom and my brother had the roast beef, and my dad had the beef rolled with cheese. The meatballs were very tasty and the meat was very tender. The roast beef was very tender, and especially yummy with the sauce, and the beef rolled with cheese was a very excellent combination! Then for desserts, we had the tiramisu and the perra cota with strawberries. Both were very appetizing! read more

My husband and I ate there tonight and had an incredible experience. Andrei was a wonderful host as we were treated like guests in his home rather than patrons in a restaurant. He made suggestions for food and wine , giving us a brief history on the origins of both. The owner checked in regularly as well. The food - artichoke and provolone pie and duck breast on crostini were excellent starters. We then shared cannelloni stuffed with spinach and ricotta in a light delicious tomato sauce. We then had the beef fondue with roasted potatoes! We were too full for dessert but they insisted that we try a sampling of pastries and a small glass of a white cherry red dessert wine that was to die for! The prosecco as we were greeted and this ending was all complimentary! I recommend this restaurant highly! A little tough to find but worth the search! read more
