I don't hang out at Ghirardelli Square, but once in a blue moon, you might see me walking at Aquatic Park and aimlessly sauntering through the square with nothing but a complimentary chocolate square on my mind. No luck this time, so I found myself at this boba tea counter strangely located next to a miniature golf course. Boy, that brought back childhood memories of my first weekend job at the Putt Putt Mini Golf in Duncanville, Texas. I had to clean the golf balls, so they gave me an intimidating title, Chief Ball Washer. I was wondering why they snickered when they said it. But I digress. Not feeling the need for a bubble tea or the surprising beer and wine selection they offered. Instead, I went for the suitable $3.50 Cinnamon Vanilla Tea (Photo 6). Sipping it slowly, I watched the slackers play the course. I didn't divulge to them that I was once a ball washer. They probably could tell anyway. The tourist trap in San Francisco always has had a little bit of everything. There aren't much Boba places around Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. In the cuts of the tourist trap known as Ghirardelli Square is where you can enjoy a refreshing cup of Boba. Down the stairs and up the stairs below within Ghirardelli square there is Tea Square. Inside Tea Square is the place to grab boba and also catch a game of miniature golf at Subpar with landmarks replicas of San Francisco. I ordered the mango smoothie and it was tasty . It wasn't too sweet and it had a smooth taste. Each sip was so refreshing. You can also order different beers on tap. Note: This review is just for the snack food (not their boba). Tea Square Boba is located inside of Subpar Mini Golf in Ghirardelli Square. It's essentially a concessions stand inside of the mini golf place, rather than what you'd think of as a traditional boba shop. Service was friendly and efficient. I only had to wait a few minutes before someone took my order of tater tots to-go. They were reasonably priced at $4.50 and came out pretty quickly. It was well packaged in a box, then in a paper bag with napkins and ketchup. The tots were crispy and hot. I can't comment on their drinks, but I had a good experience with just grabbing a snack here! read more

It was a hot day out and I was super thirsty. I wasn't sure if there'd be a boba spot nearby, as this area is super touristy, but Tea Square came to the rescue! Tea Square is a bit hidden, but it's inside Subpar Mini golf one level below the main Ghirardelli Square shops and restaurants. My friend and I came Saturday evening around 6 pm and it wasn't crowded at all. They offer different types of boba, smoothies, snacks, and even beer and wine! I was super surprised by the eclectic menu. I had a big lunch earlier but wanted something small to snack on, so the snack heavy menu here was exactly what I was looking for. I got a mango peach smoothie for $6.50 as well as some popcorn shrimp ($6.50) to munch on. My friend ordered a beer ($7) and tots ($4). The smoothie was good and really hit the spot on a rare hot SF day. When we got the food, we were shocked by the quantity. It was a struggle for both of us to finish what we ordered. Quality-wise it's nothing special or fancy, but it was a good snack before our show later. I also loved the seating area, as there are both indoor and outdoor tables on the patio with water facing views. When we came, it wasn't too crowded and we were able to snag a spot easily indoors. This is a small boba shop hidden away near the game space at Ghirardelli Square. Got the brown sugar milk with oat milk and less ice. The quality of the boba was good but the drink was largely flavorless so I wouldn't recommend that drink. There is a spectacular view of the water from here though. Definitely worth sitting outside. read more

6/13/21 Quarantine Day 454 I was craving something sweet after brunch so my friend and I stopped by the closest boba shop, which happened to be Tea Square Boba. It's a new boba place in Ghirardelli Square, and I wanted to try it out. In the same space, you'll also find an area to play indoor mini-golf. It was pretty much empty; no line to order and a group of kids playing mini-golf. The cashier greeted me in a friendly manner and I thought I would go with something light so I picked the Jasmine Milk Tea. I only had to wait maybe two minutes for my drink to be ready. When I went to get my drink, they did not cap it well because when I grabbed it, it spilled all over my hand (thank goodness it wasn't hot!). The cashier was very apologetic but didn't make much of an effort to help me clean up. She just gave me some paper towels so I could wipe what spilled on the floor and the countertop. It's not like she had much to do anyway, so I'm not sure why she didn't try to help me clean since she didn't put the top on correctly in the first place..... The drink itself was very disappointing. The first few sips were okay, but the drink was watery so not a lot of flavor. Another downside was that the boba was very stale and clunky. In hindsight, I'm glad I gave this place a try because now I know I won't be coming back here due to the lack of customer service and terrible boba. read more

A good place to get boba tea if you're near Ghirardelli Square. I wouldn't say it was the best, but very few places can adjust the sugar level in Thai iced tea, and this is one of them. The seating area is also cute, made of glass with a view of the waters and Alcatraz. Soo this rating is for specific food only. The first time I came to Subpar I did not try this place bc I was skeptical, but the second time I got hungry and we had a company budget. If you are looking to eat while playing mini golf, I'd recommend the mozzarella sticks!!! Very hot crispy and lovely stretchy cheese. The wings looked good too but didn't get a chance to try. Tea Square Boba is literally a hidden spot, it was super difficult to find. It is downstairs of the Ghirardelli Chocolate Experience plaza. It shares a space with Subpar Miniature Golf, an indoor mini golf course with an arcade and more. Instead, it's super diluted with water. Friendly staff and great location but I would highly encourage the management there to get honest feedback from customers from taiwan. Ended up paying around $8 for milk tea which is wild, but the view here is amazing and the seating here, although not comfortable, wasn't crowded. It's a nice place to chill and get away from the crowds. The fact it's connected to a mini golf place is even better because you can bring your kids and have them wack balls for $12. There's also an arcade across and they sell alcohol if that's what you're feeling. I will mention though, someone ordered wine here and they left it untouched after a single sip. The girl taking my order was friendly and answered a few questions; I ordered the taro milk tea and added boba (I usually don't add boba with the tarp drinks, but I had to try their bubbles out). The drink came out fairly quickly, but I noticed a problem right away: they don't have the standard sealing machine, so I had a drink that required mixing without being to shake it bc of the plastic cap that they put on it (it leaks if you try shaking). So, I sat down, took off the lid and used my straw to mix it (not ideal given how full it was). The drink itself was just kind of meh; where's the flavor? The bubbles were fine, so no major issues there. Overall, I'd much rather go to Teaspoon down Polk, but if you're in the Ghirardelli area, this is your only option for boba (better than no boba, I guess?) I am obsessed with this new boba spot! First off, love the outdoor space-- perfect to grab a drink and hang outside without feeling weird about being around people.
