Staff were friendly enough and they offer a wide selection of toys, games, puzzles, etc. However, their prices are a little ridiculous. Made the mistake of buying something for my toddler only to find it was literally half the price on Amazon. I understand how brick and mortar stores operate and the need to support local businesses, but charging $60 for something worth $30 on Amazon is as stated...ridiculous. While we were having our taxes done, our EA suggested my wife visit this store. My wife owns a home daycare and planned to buy a birthday gift for one of the daycare kids. When we walked into the store, we were struck by the vast amount of stock on the floor and on the shelves for a relatively small place. But, my wife found the perfect gift for the child and at a very good price. She also found two sets of Magna Tiles, which are very popular with the older daycare kids--at prices that beat Amazon's. The ladies on duty were warm, friendly and welcoming. It's just a nice, no-stress place to shop with fair prices. Judging by how many customers filled the store, a lot of people feel this same way. My wife used to buy those birthday gifts here in town at a local supermarket that apparently will no longer sell toys. We are very glad of that decision and of our tax person's suggestions. We're going back this weekend to buy those Magna Tiles. read more

Loved this place! Lot of options for kids entertainment including arts, crafts and books.

My family has shopped at both Teaching Toys locations for years. Tonight we stopped in to look for Christmas Gifts. My daughter collects Pusheen plushes and found one she'd never seen before. It had a tag that said 'push for light and sound'. She squeezed it and it lit up and played music. She was excited that she had found a new one and ran over to show my wife. She turned the lights and music on again to show her mom and the employee behind the register rudely said "Ok. That's your last squeeze. It's for sale." My kids continued to look around the store, and found several things they liked, but I'd already decided we wouldn't be spending a dime there. I'm not sure how they think you sell toys, but I'm pretty sure it's not being rude to a kid when they are showing their Mom something they were excited about and would like to buy. My daughter will probably end up getting the Pusheen, but it won't be purchased here. read more

I've been in here a few times with my kids but never bought anything before today. Today I was running late for a birthday party without a gift. The gal working helped me quickly pick out a gift and even gift wrapped it for me! They have a great selection for all ages too, I love this store! read more

I love this local store. Not overpriced and the staff goes above and beyond to help. I stopped in this afternoon, running late on my way to a child's birthday party. The manager (I assume) told me that I looked like I was in a hurry and if she could help. She helped select a gift, wrapped it and had us out of there in 4 minutes! read more

Stopped by our local Teaching Toys store in Gig Harbor today with the intent on buying a $100 gift certificate for our daughter-in-law. As we approached the check-out counter we saw that they were promoting a book called "A is for Activism" on display. Now why would they want to throw that in the face of roughly half of their customers? Now, I don't care if they want to sell things like that in their store, after all some people like correcting, denouncing and shaming people, but why be so confrontational in a toy store? On the plus side, the store has multitudes of nice quality items at fairly reasonable prices. Such a shame that I can not stomach shopping there. read more

Great stuff inside and I enjoy supporting a local business, but I don't appreciate when a place tells my daughter to leave. My daughter and her friends spend time in Uptown because it's familiar, safe, and close to home. Apparently, if my daughter enters the store not knowing if she is going to buy something, then she is not welcome? As a family, we have spent quite a bit of money here; filled half a dozen punch cards. We have even had things transferred from the Tacoma store to ensure the purchase is in GH. But I will make my purchases elsewhere from now on. I may not know what I am looking for when I enter, and may be told to leave. read more

We happened to drive by this store and decided to stop in. Our kids LOVED it. The toys were all high-quality, the employees were knowledgeable about every item and were great with the kids. I love this store. I prefer it over the one in Tacoma (which is great too but I just like the layout of the GH store better). They have a wonderful selection of toys for all ages, arts & crafts supplies for something not so main stream, many books to choose from, games galore, tons of baby gift ideas and board books, etc. I like that they have some unique toy options, many of my favorite brands, and that it is a small business. Their prices are reasonable and what I would expect from a small independent toy store. They have two customer appreciation sales twice a year which I love to shop at and stock up on things for the kids or gifts for friends. We frequent the store when we need gifts for friends, family, or a special treat for the kids. Small independent toy stores are the best! The staff is pretty friendly and knowledgeable for the most part. I've been in a number of times and have had amazing experiences each time however the last time (the only reason why I'm giving this four stars) I was in I thought that the owners daughter wasn't the best with small children which seems quite silly as it is a toy store. The interactions with mine as well as a few others were not as patient as her Mom or the others who work at the store. Other than that, it is a great store and again am hoping that was a one time experience. read more

I love this place! That was the first place where they had the first seekers book.( By Erin Hunter) I was jumping up and down, I was so happy. It surprised me that a toy store had so many books there. They had many books there. Although they did have a small group of Warriors,Survivors and Seekers I was still happy. They had baby books, 2-4 books, 5-9 books, and teen book. I think that place is very good. They have good toys too. Many people should go there because if you find this amazing book or series and you look everywhere for that book or series just look at Teaching Toys and boom there you have it in your hands. This is the place to get your books. Though if you are looking for the whole series and you go there you will 5 out of 6 of the books.
