We seldom get to just sit and visit and had a wonderful, relaxing time. The ambiance is so welcoming and calming. The table setting was charming with little touches such as our reservation card, rose shaped napkin, and beautiful china. The service was excellent as well as the tea choices.The 3 tiered tray arrived and the variety of offerings were delicious. Our server, Amy, was attentive to our needs and also allowed us uninterrupted time to visit. The owners, Sheila and Fred are delightful to chat with and accommodating. I spent a lovely Saturday afternoon with my loved ones sipping teas and learning about them. Sheila, our guide and also the owner, is a tea aficionado first and foremost. It just made our experience so much more memorable to see someone with that much passion and knowledge teaching. Our tea tasting went through 8 variety of their house blends. White, green, oolong, and black teas were sampled. We learned in depth about tea wares, where tea comes from, how they are made, and most important of all how much labor is put into them. Outside of class, the shop itself was an experience all on its own. They have a floor to ceiling wall of loose leaf teas that they blend and bag in house. You can sample any one of them free of charge at their tea bar. You can also purchase a cup to go, or try one of their tea drinks. This is an absolute gem of a place. I have been following this tea shop on Instagram for a while, and finally decided to stop in with my friend after having lunch down the street. This place is tucked away in a corner in uptown Park Ridge, so we had trouble finding it right away. This place is bright, quaint, and frankly a very cheerful looking place. Its well maintained and very clean. When we entered, my friend and I started looking at all the teas they had, and they had quite a selection. And the teas are very well priced too! The most expensive I saw was $15 for jasmine pearl green tea, which I may come back to buy! In the back there is a counter with a bunch of teas already brewed. I did not know this place was also a tea bar, so this thrilled me. They also let you sample the teas that are on the shelves, or you can purchase a whole drink. My friend and I opted to try the Mystic Moon, which was a delightful blend of both green and black teas. They also do milk teas as well (there's a menu!) I am so pleased with this place. Candice G and I both sampled the super fragrant and delightful South Beach Peach tea and immediately decided that it was the bev for us. There's a nice array of honey, milk and sweeteners to accompany your tea of choice, too. A few minutes later we were imbibing in a large pot of the tasty tea, chatting away near the window. $9 and 30 minutes later we were tea-d up and ready to head out. This is a great little tea shop. My family and I love it. I have taken friends and colleagues here and they have all loved it as well. They have a great selection of teas to both drink there and to buy and make at home. I have brought my brother who is a chef to a tea tasting session with the owner, and it was very educational and enjoyable. This place was amazing! We did the tea class and tasting and it far exceeded our expectations. The instructor was not only very sweet, down to earth and honest, she was also very well versed in all things tea. You can tell this is her passion. The shop itself is very nice contemporary and clean without being corporate. It still has that relaxed atmosphere that you look for in a shop. All the people that worked at the shop were helpful and aware of each other and they were all kind. I litterally do not see any ways this shop could be better. I used to come to Tealula all the time, and I really enjoyed it. I still love their selections and the expansion on the place is great. However, I've been disappointed when for-here drinks are received in to-go cups. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but especially with hot drinks it is a pain to receive them in to-go cups because the drink gets cold too quickly. Additionally, the milk teas seem to be much more watery than they used to be. Again, I love this place but would love to see these minor improvements soon! read more

It was a little difficult trying to find this place around the corner but after stumbling around, I found the cute aesthethic that they have on the outside. My friends and I went to the cafe near their closing, so it was pretty quiet. I heard they served matcha tea (not matcha latte or milk tea). I remember I got the berry with matcha (don't remember the name) and it was pretty good. Just an fyi folxs matcha has a subtle to no taste so if you're looking for something punchy, that not matcha. However, it is very healthy and a good alternative to coffee. Moving on, the staff were nice and the place was cute. I've known the owner for years and regularly frequented for tea. (Whether she remembers me or not is a different story.) A friend and I used to spend extended time in the shop sampling tea and also purchasing the occasional pot. The owner eventually dropped the façade and told us to take a hike because we were spending "too long" (like 30 min at most??) even though we had made several purchases and were still drinking our pot of tea. Got to the point where even if I dropped in to grab some loose leaf the owner would approach me with a snide attitude or straight up ignore me. I don't know what her deal was but I always got asked if I had enough money to actually buy my items, I assume it was because I was "younger," but I was treated like a pest every time I came in. My mother and I came in once together and Sheila mentioned that she was "discouraging people from bringing their kids" even though I was ALWAYS respectful and even bought things on my own. Couldn't even make small talk with staff while they were MAKING my drink because I was "keeping them from their work and distracting them." I was literally chatting about their major and the weather. Final straw was hearing the owner make derogatory gossip with certain customers that were just straight up homophobic. This all happened several years ago, as I now go to Adagio where the staff is super personable, helpful, and more than happy to have customers stick around and enjoy tea! read more

A park ridge must, and a tea lover's dream! Tealula has been in park ridge for years, and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful with how tea works and the various flavors. Going into tealula is an experience in itself, with a gorgeous chic style. Portions are GREAT, which makes up for the price. I normally only visit tealula during hot summer days to get a "Busia's Lemonade", my favorite drink, which stays unbeatable by any Starbucks tea. It's been a running joke among younger locals about the "after tea effect", as the tea sometimes reacts as a laxative... anyhow, would still recommend tealula to anyone. "Perfectly adequate." ~ emotionless thirsty robot I was thirsty. It was a dreary day. The boss lady asked if I wanted to join her for a spot of tea. Who am I to turn down a charming offer such as that? First, I think it's only fair to fill any readers in on my un-knowlegde of what a tea room was. I don't know what I was expecting, but I kind of wish it were just called a tea shop. To me, that better describes the experience, but whatever. If this is what a tea room is, great. I get it now. I was more expecting a cafe that sort of looked like the inside of Jeannie's bottle on 'I Dream of Jeannie', but apparently that's something I made up and stored in my head under the file folder name of 'Tea Room'. The lady-boss and I split a pot of tea (How cute is that? We're like half of the Golden Girls, right?) in a quiet, window-side nook. There were really only three places to sit inside, and if you had more than 2 people to your group your seating options would be limited to the tasting bar, which looked like fun, but a little noisier than we were hoping for given our work-time meeting. Our pot of South Beach Peach tea was pretty outstanding and served enough for probably 4.5 teacups of tea total at a rate of $9 a pot. Not too shabby for the quality and flavor or tea. I still regret not buying some loose leaf of it to take home. They sadly don't have wi-fi, so we weren't able to do any of the work we'd planned on doing there, but it ended up turning out fine because it freed up a good hour+ for me to rant and rave conspiracies about the STILL MISSING Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Pretty positive I dug myself into a whole new category of crazy with regards to how my lady-boss must think of me, but I also think a part of her likes my oddball jibber-jabber so it all worked out in the end. So...the moms read somewhere that oolong tea helps you lose weight. Seeing that we are definitely not experienced in the art of drinking tea, I figured we better get some pro help. Enter Tea Lula. We were lucky enough to meet the owner Sheila that day, and I wish I took notes so I could remember half the interesting things she taught us. She invited us to sit at the tea bar, and offered to brew up some of the magic weight loss tea - may I say my mom was just a little overexcited at that. This is what they offer all their customers, and getting to try each tea before you buy means you're never blowing money on something you might not end up digging. Me likey. Also, the whole time we sat there enjoying our tea we got the better than Wikipedia info on it - Sheila explained the how and why difference in taste between the first steeped batch of tea and the second. She pulled out different kinds of oolong to show the difference in how the leaves are rolled, depending on where it's from. In short, she knows everything about anything tea. Better yet, she was excited about sharing the info with us, and it was definitely appreciated. There's also a variety of things to buy, and since my mom was just starting out Sheila suggested the Ingenuitea teapot, which has been perfect - cheap and easy to use. Better yet they have a bunch of cute gifts like mugs, teapots, and...basically anything you'd expect to find in a tea shop. Of course, meeting Shiela made our visit, and the mom is now a tea convert. You see my boyfriend is a HUGE fan of freshly grown loose leaf tea and up until a couple of months ago all we could find was tea in tea bags or over priced tea online. Well Tea Lula changed that! Tea Lula is a great place if you love tea or if your getting introduced to it. Their variety is amazing and they'll actually make you a sample if you find one that smells or sounds appealing. It's really nice because you can taste it before you buy it which really helps in deciding. The people that work there are really friendly and really know their stuff about tea. Absolutely adore this gem! It's one of the few things I miss about living in Park Ridge. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will spend the time to make sure you get something you will love. They'll even brew you a sample cup of anything you'd like to try(in addition to their 2 daily samples). The tea bar in the back is a great place to watch how tea is supposed to be made. The instructions on the labels of their bags of loose tea are spot on. The scones are a perfect pair with their teas. Extreme variety in flavors and blends with wonderful seasonal blends as well. Their gift items are fabulous as well! I miss living a block from Tea Lula, but I still commute there for work and stop in whenever I can. I really love this place. They specialize in loose leaf tea. I loved being able to try many different kinds with out having to pay to try to samples of the tea I wanted to try. The people working there were very friendly and they did not make me feel like I needed to be a 'tea nerd' to fit in there. Very relaxed atmosphere. Shelia was very helpful. They have a tea bar where you can sit down a try out the tea you wanted to try out. They also sell tea sets to help you get your loose leaf tea on at home. On the back of the tea bags you get have instructions on the back of how to prepare to tea and at what temp to have the tea at and show long and how much tea for how much water. I love loose leaf tea. I actually happened across this store whilst headed to the Farmer's Market. They have a fine selection of teas, and the man who helped me was knowledgeable of the flavors and earthiness of different teas. This is important to me because I like bold tea that isn't too earthy. I've purchased a number of teas in the past that I ended up tossing out because I didn't like them. With loose leaf tea, that can get expensive. The prices here are mostly reasonable. They even have tea tastings, which is great for the above reason I talked about. They also have a frequent buyer system, which can save you $ in the long run. I appreciate small businesses and was SO TIRED of trying to not go broke buying tea at Teavana in the mall. I will say, when it is the ladies working here, they aren't quite as friendly, but ARE knowledgeable. Overall, I will continue to buy my loose leaf tea here. I absolutely love TeaLula! I've been going here since they first opened, and feel so lucky to have such a cute, high-quality, independently-owned tea shop in the neighborhood. They have an entire wall filled with high-quality tea (I'm sipping a mug of Pomegranate Cranberry as I write this). And they make perfect gifts (even if those gifts are to yourself). And since they have such a variety of tea blends- I'm sure you'll find more than one that is exceptional. Though I tend to stick to my favorites, I enjoy tasting new teas and have yet to be disappointed. But besides the truly wonderful tea, what makes TeaLula special and 100% worth visiting, is the place itself. They have a tea bar and two tables by the window and a spectacular staff. Sheila and the rest of the team at TeaLula are really knowledgeable and incredibly kind and helpful. I really love drinking tea at the bar, not only for the company and conversation of those who work at TeaLula but also because everyone who sits at the bar is so open and approachable. TeaLula definitely curates a sense of community. You can also joke that tea bars are the types of bars you frequent ;) Also, at the store they offer tea lattes and specially prepared tea-based drinks. I highly recommend Matcha Lemonade (they are seriously getting everyone hooked on it) and Snow Drift. Overall, it's the perfect place to spend time and sip some tea. Took a tea testing class here and loved it. The class walked us through the tea making process, sampling teas from different regions. As a traditional black tea drinker I walked out of the class open to trying green tea and took a strong liking to Oolong tea.The store is a hidden gem with lovely owners who not only have a lot of knowledge on tea but are clearly passionate about it.
