Been to Tealux Cafe numerous time and I cannot believe it took me this long to write a review. This bubble tea shop is an awesome cafe for drinks and food. It's owned by a Vietnamese lady that takes pride in her food and also connecting with her customers. Every time she is in the back and sees my boyfriend and I, she takes the time to talk to us. The bubble tea is 5/5. It's fresh and if you order it right away you get the warm and gooey texture that I look for at local boba shops. Sometimes if you order ahead online they make the drinks and store in the fridge so the boba may no be as warm. They have a variety of different Vietnamese street and traditional foods! I'm giving this a 4/5 because I have noticed that when the owners are not there, the food quality can be a hit or a miss. The Bahn Mi's are out of this world when it's a hit, and have a fusion twist with different types of bahn mi's. Another great option is there popcorn chicken that has a crispy coating that's crunchy and flavorful in your mouth. Sometimes they also have off menu items if you just ask, so keep a look out on that! The cafe has a cute vibe that makes you want to come back! Finally, a boba place just a couple minutes from home. Usually we have to travel a bit further to get some boba, but whenever I get a craving, I find myself going here for the convenience. The parking is a little hectic, considering how tight it is in the lot, shared amongst other shops nearby. If you need to get some grocery shopping done, you have Walmart right down the street, a nail shop, some food options (Applebees, dominos, wingstop, fudruckers, tropical smoothie). There's something for everyone. The inside of the cafe is super cute. The lighting, the plants - it's a vibe. They have board games for people to play with (great bonding moments). The menu consists of a variation of fruit teas, milk teas, coffee, smoothie and food options, like a banh mi - if you don't know what that is, it's a Vietnamese sandwich filled typically with meat + some fresh veggies. Super good. I've never tried it from here so I can't speak for theirs. We always get the same thing each time we come here - the signature milk tea. It's a black milk tea + tapioca pearls (pretty sure the pearls are soaked in brown sugar syrup). Beware of the caffeine because it's pretty strong, lol. But in a good way. It's pretty sweet, but they give you the option to cut the sweetness down. I will say if you don't like super soft tapioca pearls, you won't like the ones in these. Every time I've had it, the texture has been consistent. I don't mind it being sticky + chewy, I'll take it over being too hard. They have a regular size option or the large. The price difference is only $1 more. They large cups are made out of a sturdy plastic so when you shake it won't break :) lol. read more

Tealux Cafe Ratings: 3.4/5 Food: 3/5 - Got the Islander, which is Jasmine tea with passion fruit, mango and pineapple. Nothing too impressive. The tea itself was refreshing, but average with a slight hint of fresh fruity taste and not much of the Jasmine tea either. To me, it was too tropical and tasted a bit too syrupy. The toppings were pretty decent, but once again nothing too special. The downside is that I was expecting more "actual" fruits in my tea, but literally got like one orange slice in my drink. Compared to other fruit teas I got at other boba shops, at a price of $6.50, the container would be stacked with a variety of different fruits. Ambiance: 4/5 - Located in the same shopping center complex as Wal-Mart with lots of parking spots. It is a nice place to sit inside and hang out with friends on a chill day. The interior is clean, bright, with lots of huge planted window and pretty decor on the walls. Definitely can be a happy place for high school students to chill and relax with some board games. This is our new favorite boba/fruit tea place in the area! We were introduced to this establishment from the previous Yelp Elite event and we do not regret it. It is a little farther from us compared to other spots but its worth the drive. They offer your usual boba tea offerings with an expanded range of toppings. However, their milk tea selection isn't as extensive as other places but maybe they want to keep it small so they offer the best quality. They could use another flavor or two :). But their fruit teas are delicious and refreshing as well. Another plus for this place is that they offer food such as different banh mi (subs) with different meats. They also have an "off-menu" which is interesting but we haven't tried it yet. My personal favorite is their Vietnamese coffee which is very strong but also sweet. I will start this review off by speaking for my fellow Norfolk residents when I say that we are ecstatic that a restaurant that serves boba tea and Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches (more food choices coming soon) in an area outside of downtown or Ghent is a big plus for the city! Tealux Cafe has a sleek, modern interior decor. There is seating against both sides of the restaurant and in the center of the restaurant they have several table placed together with Jenga and Monopoly games for patrons to play. I ordered 2 grilled pork banh mi sandwiches and 1 jasmine passion fruit boba tea. The grilled pork banh mi sandwich was delicious. My only minor complaint is that the bread was not toasted when it arrived. Not a problem, I'll just ask for it to be toasted on my next visit. The jasmine passion fruit boba tea was delicious! I can't wait to try the different flavors of their fruit and milk teas that they offer. Ladies and gentlemen, I'll definitely be frequenting Tealux Cafe in the future. We were in the area for a YEE that was literally next door. Thanks to a friend who alerted us that Tealux was having their grand opening today, we were able to come to try it out. They were pretty busy, a good sign, and even though no signs were put up, we were able to distinguish the line to order and the line for pick up. They had a menu of their drinks at the counter. After eyeballing it I choose a Meadow tea with coconut jelly. My daughter orders the Tealux signature milk tea. My tea was amazing! The perfect blend of black tea, mango, and lemongrass with coconut jelly. I was very pleasantly surprised! I did have a taste of the Tealux Signature milk tea and it had a distinct cocoa taste with boba pearls. Honestly, I feel like the boba could have been a bit firmer. It felt a bit soft. Super exciting to have another boba place available! Congratulations on your grand opening! I ordered 5 drinks to get the free glass bottle! They don't have any size preference available. But fruity drinks are tall, and milk teas are short. Right off the bat I noticed how crowded their set up was. They had 10 people making drinks and running the register. Different females would be managing the register, switching each other out to make drinks. However as someone from California, growing up with 100 boba shops in one town. I applaud you for making the best boba syrup in probably the 7 cities of VA. Few recommendations would be: - have cup holders than can hold the smaller milk tea cups bc they only accommodate for the tall ones - have a menu board on the back or side. Outside isn't a bad idea either to give customers who are waiting outside a chance to review - using gloves when handling fruits. I saw multiple team members touching fruits, then handling the register and everything else behind the counter - call customers up once the ENTIRE order is completed. I'm not a huge boba fanatic but going forward I'll probably compare every boba place to this one! I ordered the Islander which has jasmine tea with passion fruit, mango and pineapple syrup- soooo yummy. It also included the popping boba which is strawberry, blueberry, peach & kiwi! The popping boba literally pops in your mouth with all those bursts of flavors, and it's small & soft! You can tell they make the boba fresh here, unlike other bobas I've had in the past where the boba had almost a tough texture. My only con about the drink was that there was so much ice I couldn't get to all the boba at the bottom. So if you're not a fan of ice, just ask for none, which I will remember to do next time. The ice is the reason I took a Star off. The menu had a lot of different combos that I've never seen before, which is why I'll probably compare every other place I try to this one! I'm not sure if they use real milk so if that bothers you, ask first. Tealux, please implement a rewards program! This is not far from my job so I see myself visiting here pretty regularly. Really wanted to love this place, but they fell a little short just cause of this! This was actually my second time here, and the first time I left feeling pretty satisfied and was looking forward to explore their menu more (especially since not a lot of places seem to use jasmine tea like they do!). I asked to have no ice in my drink this time, and they really only gave me half a drink.... so you really are paying for half a cup of ice just like one other reviewer on here said lol. I didn't drink anything out of the cup in the picture, so that's what it looked like when they gave it to me. Ending the weekend with Boba! We both decided we'd go the mango route so we went with the Man on the Go, which is jasmine tea and mango, and the Marigold, which just adds ginger and mango jelly. The Man on the Go was refreshing. The Marigold was solid and I especially enjoyed the mango jelly, which was fresh and yummy! We also decided on the Signature Milk Tea which just consists of black milk tea and tapioca pearls. He mentioned it was a pretty straightforward drink and that he enjoyed the freshness of the boba pearls. We also made sure to get some banh mi. After a long and hard thinking process, we decided on the special combination sandwich which contained all the cold cuts, grilled pork, and pate. The banh mi's flavor was a bit overwhelming but it had a pretty great taste overall. My boyfriend got a delicious (no toppings) Vietnamese coffee (light blend) and thoroughly enjoyed it. He likes crushed ice and was a fan, but I prefer cubes since I don't like chewing on ice. I think the lack of boba and just slurping the ice interrupted my Vietnamese coffee experience, but the coffee flavor was perfect. Not only is it absolutely phenomenal from every individual I've seen in here, but they go out of their way to greet you. They go out of their way to help you when you have questions as well. Now, everyone's favorite, the food. While I've never tried the food, the drinks are where it's at. I've had multiple different combinations of the drinks. The Levithan, the Man On The Go, the Scarlet, and several others such as the signature Milk Tea, and the Jasmine Milk Tea. While those alone are delicious, they also have different kinds of jellies and other things. Coconut jelly and green apple jelly are some of my favorite, but I've had so many others. The popping peach is a classical favorite. I say this from the bottom of my heart, that everything here is delicious and spectacular. And the boba wasn't ready either so I had to wait 10-15 mins. I ordered 3 drinks and there was 1 other order before mine. My first drink came out wrong (forgot the boba) but they were so nice to let me keep it. My second drink was wrong again (forgot the boba, again) but this time they took it back. And they finally bring out all the drink and the 3rd drink was wrong. I was told their drinks come with toppings but when I add an extra they forgot the original toppings in it? Anyways they forgot my daughters mango stars but I was already embarrassed, and didn't want to correct them a 3rd time. I know my child was upset too. So we left with our drinks. 3rd visit I came near closing, around 7-8pm? Hoping to get a classic boba milk tea. I order and they say they're out of boba? Okay. I get grass jelly. We wait. They call our number 89 and say there's no more milk tea either. And if they can get me something else. They tell me "don't worry I won't charge you" which made no sense? They did not refund me. But it was my fault for coming too late. But what upset me the most was the other number 90 was called and I know they ordered AFTER me, I saw had 2 classic milk teas. THAT was when I became irritated. Is it not first come first serve? Anyways we got our drink and I left yet again, disappointed. Went into this place as my daughter wanted to give it a try. I'm keeping this review short and straight to the point. The only reason I'm even giving it 2 stars is due to their cute logo. The tea we ordered was EXTREMELY syrupy and I felt I paid for ice and not tea. I got up to ask for another tea to be make but I felt the employee would have lost their job over it. I overheard a staff member stating "another order return and you will be responsible" I am not one to put someone's job at jeopardy: especially over tea. The booths are extremely hard (maybe getting some cushions can remedy" The day we went, it was also super hot inside. Also you can't really modify, which I have a problem with that.
