This place came highly recommended so today I decided to drive down before my yoga class. The owner was so sweet we talked a lot about our love for Thailand . She recommended the ginger duck and it was so delicious . I also ordered mango sticky rice to go . I have no idea where I have been , because why have I never tried it ever before but hooked now. The restaurant was dead due to the snow forecast so what better way to enjoy, than having the whole place to yourself . It was a clean establishment and beautifully decorated . Stopped by Kao Thai Restaurant and ordered a Thai tea while waiting for my food -- it was creamy, perfectly sweet, and so refreshing. My food came out super fast, so I barely had time to enjoy my drink before I had to head out! I ordered the spicy Pad Thai with tofu, and it was delicious. The noodles were tender and coated in that classic tangy-sweet sauce with just the right amount of spice. The tofu was crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the dish came with fresh bean sprouts, crushed peanuts, and a wedge of lime that tied it all together perfectly. I visited this restaurant with my friends for lunch. The place is clean, well organized, lots of seating and spacious. There are lots of menus to choose from, we ordered papaya salad, soup to share, and noodles and other dishes for individual meals. The salad and soup are both delicious, and the waiter is kind enough to bring extra plates for us. Good service!! I really have zero good things to say about this place. I've never found Panang disgusting, but this dish was disgusting. It's as if they scooped peanut butter from the jar and coated the chicken in it and served it up. My hubs Jane's Thai spicy red curry was water thin. There was absolutely no viscosity. Was out running errands with my brother and we decided to stop at this random Thai spot on the way to Trader Joe's. We are so thankful to have found this place. He introduced me to Roti Canai (YOU MUST TRY) with curry. Also try the Thai iced green tea! I've never seen it at other Thai restaurants and it was very delicious and not as sweet as Thai iced tea. Ordered classic pad see eaw and the noodles tasted like they were hand made back in the kitchen like fresh pasta. Could've used some more broccoli but overall the dish was the most flavorful pad see eaw I've ever tasted. Service was excellent! And the place was very clean and had some "Thai jazz like" music in the background. I will definitely be spreading the word about this place. I stopped by Kao Thai for a quick lunch, and I'm absolutely glad that I did. Everything from the start to the finish of my lunch was A+. First off, the waitress was extremely friendly, cheerful, and (most important) very helpful. Actually, she's one of the main reasons that I gave this restaurant a 5-star rating. I started off with the Shrimp Bikini, and they were very delicious. I was a bit surprised (in a good way) that the 'bikinis' were jammed packed with shrimp and other goodies. For my main course, I had the crispy salmon with spicy Thai basil sauce. The salmon portion size was perfect for me (ie large but not too large). Also, I thought the dish was great for someone who is watching his calories because it's served with a nice helping of steamed broccoli. ;) I think Kao Thai is one of those places where you will receive a small plate (one spring roll, in my case) with an entree order. The prices were pretty reasonable for the area, so you will not break the bank for a delicious meal. The food was edible and could satisfy your hunger but it just wasn't tasty or flavorful at all. We ordered Thai staple dishes (Ka Prow, Thai fried rice, and drunken noodles) and all were bland and one note. It was just all around a waste of time and money. And I'm not a picky eater when it comes to Thai because usually it's a flavor profile they us consistency regardless of where you go. We should have just went to Tida Thai! This is my go-to Thai restaurant in VB for takeout. I've never been at the actual location, but I usually order through a third-party app, and the food has been great every single time. My usual order is pad thai and green curry, which is admittedly basic and boring, but Kao Thai consistently makes them well with good portions, and that's what I need for comfort food when just staying home. I'm also a fan of their appetizer sampler with the fried eggrolls and calamari and the large Thai tea. I've been a Tida Thai devotee since I moved back to Virginia in 2014. I am obsessed with their authentic flavors and handmade noodles. If I didn't know better, I'd say that Kao Thai employed one of their chefs! My family and I had lunch here this past Sunday, using a restaurant.com gift certificate. At around 12:30, the place was empty except for us. A few other diners trickled in slowly over the course of our meal. As I have found at every Thai restaurant I've dined in, there was one server/order taker/expediter and he did a decent job of taking care of us while we dined, all while juggling other diners that came in and a phone that rang often. We were quickly greeted. Drinks took a bit longer than expected, but my mom ordered a sangria and I am betting that's what took the most time. It was certainly a hand-crafted drink, but a bit on the dry side (according to her). Our 4 orders were delivered piece-meal, spanning about 5 minutes between the first and last meal delivered, which was a bit disappointing, but the food was delicious! My husband, who is also a Tida Thai devotee was insistent that the flavor of the dish and texture of the noodles in the Pad See Ew was exactly the same. My mom enjoyed Pad Thai with pork, dad had Drunken Noodles with chicken and I tried the Thai Sweet & Sour with chicken. Everything was superb and, for once, no carry out boxes left with us. The order consisted of Laab, beef with broccoli, Thai mango curry with pork, Thai fried street noodles with shrimp and pork, and spicy shrimp with vegetables. The spice level for each item was spot on (as my mom can't handle spicy anything) which is important because some of my family cant handle the spice level my husband and I can. The rice was cooked to perfection, sticky and flavorful. All-in-all an excellent meal at a good price point. The only reason this review was not a solid 5 stars was because I felt there needed to be more. The quantity of food for the price was a bit underwhelming. Came here for lunch. The server was very nice and welcome. The store is huge so I think it's good for group too. I ordered the Pad-See-Eaw with beef (11.95), Thai Tea (free from checking in with the Yelp app) and the Sticky Mango Rice (4 something). The Pad-See-Eaw is thick, wide and flat rice noodles with eggs, vegetables and choice of meat(I choose beef). It smells and tasted really good, and there are overload beef in it, although they are overcooked. The Sticky Mango Rice is super delicious, the mango is sweet, the coconut milk is too sweet for me but I always don't like too sweet so I think others will be fine with that. The stick rice taste same as I had back in Bangkok, woth some sesame on top, yum! Overall, staff are nice, the restaurant is not the best looking but not bad, the food are good, prices are fair, 9/10. read more

One of the best I've had. The Drunken noodles however didn't do well as a take out item. The noodles were all melted together, and missing the amazing flavor that you would normally get from this dish. The rest of the meal was very tasty. The portions were more than adequate.
