Mami I.

I visited this restaurant with my friends for lunch. The place is clean, well organized, lots of seating and spacious. There are lots of menus to choose from, we ordered papaya salad, soup to share, and noodles and other dishes for individual meals. The salad and soup are both delicious, and the waiter is kind enough to bring extra plates for us. Good service!! My noodle was good too but little bit salty for my liking, and wished there were more portions for the price. But overall it was good quality and experience.

Truly such a beautiful establishment for casual dining and small gatherings. Whether a bite to eat or a romantic date is the occasion, the soothing and pleasant atmosphere and how the owner goes the extra mile by in service by ensuring fresh flowers are placed on the table daily make this spot my favorite Thai restaurant. Among the many entrees and yummy dishes to choose from with your own preference of spice level, Kao Thai has pleased me and my company each time I have had the pleasure of visiting. Surprise your taste buds and try something, I'm here to say that you'll definitely love it!

I really have zero good things to say about this place. I've never found Panang disgusting, but this dish was disgusting. It's as if they scooped peanut butter from the jar and coated the chicken in it and served it up. My hubs Jane's Thai spicy red curry was water thin. There was absolutely no viscosity. The pad Thai was fine. I tried to call to see if there was anything that can be done and no answer. Appalled.

Was out running errands with my brother and we decided to stop at this random Thai spot on the way to Trader Joe's. We are so thankful to have found this place. He introduced me to Roti Canai (YOU MUST TRY) with curry. Also try the Thai iced green tea! I've never seen it at other Thai restaurants and it was very delicious and not as sweet as Thai iced tea. Ordered classic pad see eaw and the noodles tasted like they were hand made back in the kitchen like fresh pasta. Could've used some more broccoli but overall the dish was the most flavorful pad see eaw I've ever tasted. Service was excellent! And the place was very clean and had some "Thai jazz like" music in the background. I will definitely be spreading the word about this place. Menu prices are a bit pricey for dinner but very comparable at lunch time.

Outstanding atmosphere and delectable flavors! Additionally, very pleasant music and ambience I highly recommend them!

We had the best experience at Kao Thai restaurant Virginia Beach! Outstanding atmosphere and delectable flavors! Additionally, very pleasant music and ambience I highly recommend them! Amazing service!

Drunken noodles

First time at Kao Thai and here is my review: Food: I ordered the drunken noodles with soft tofu with a mild spice level. The flavor is the right amount of spicy, savory, with a hint of sweet. Service: The service was great and the waitress was kind and cheerful. It wasn't as busy when I went in, but she was patient as I perused the menu. Ambiance: The restaurant is clean and has some light jazz music playing. A great spot to stop for lunch or dinner. Cant wait to try their kao soi next!

Shrimp Bikini (a must have)
Kwame S.

I stopped by Kao Thai for a quick lunch, and I'm absolutely glad that I did. Everything from the start to the finish of my lunch was A+. First off, the waitress was extremely friendly, cheerful, and (most important) very helpful. Actually, she's one of the main reasons that I gave this restaurant a 5-star rating. I started off with the Shrimp Bikini, and they were very delicious. I was a bit surprised (in a good way) that the 'bikinis' were jammed packed with shrimp and other goodies. For my main course, I had the crispy salmon with spicy Thai basil sauce. The salmon portion size was perfect for me (ie large but not too large). Also, I thought the dish was great for someone who is watching his calories because it's served with a nice helping of steamed broccoli. ;) I think Kao Thai is one of those places where you will receive a small plate (one spring roll, in my case) with an entree order. The prices were pretty reasonable for the area, so you will not break the bank for a delicious meal. The next time I have a Thai craving in the area, I will be sure to drop by Kao Thai Restaurant.

Chicken larb

Delicious pumpkin curry at a perfect 5/10 spice level. Super flavorful chicken larb salad as well. Very healthy and super fresh!

I'm not entirely sure, it was my first time eating from there. I don't live in the VA beach area, sorry about that. 😅

I chose the $25 option, which included an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert. For the appetizer, I picked the shrimp rolls and crab rangoons. You get two shrimp rolls and four crab rangoons with a side of sauce. It was a really solid starter--perfect to hold you over until the main dish. I also loved that it was a duo, so you didn't have to choose between the two. That was definitely a plus. For my entrée, I ordered the shrimp pad thai, and this was actually my first time ever trying pad thai. I wanted to try something different, and I'm so glad I did because it was really, really good. I would honestly go back just for this dish alone. The shrimp was cooked well, the noodles had the perfect amount of flavor, and the portion size was very satisfying. No complaints at all. For dessert, you can choose between coconut ice cream or fried bananas. My friend got the coconut ice cream, and I got the fried bananas, and we ended up splitting both. Together? Delicious. They do offer them together as part of the $35 option, but since we both did the $25, we just shared--and it worked out perfectly. The customer service was also great. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. They kept our table clean, cleared plates quickly after each course, and checked on us throughout the meal. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, professional, and happy to give recommendations. Overall, I would definitely go back to try more of their food. Their Tom Yum was pretty good! Nice, robust flavor and fresh ingredients. Their larb gai was amazing! They serve it 'lettuce wrap' style, with all the ingredient pre-assembled in little Romain boats which were very easy to pick up and eat and they weren't messy. Flavors were great and the ingredients were very fresh. I would definitely come back here for Thai food!

I started with the chicken spring rolls, and they were perfect. Light, crisp, and clearly made fresh. The wrapper had that delicate crunch that never feels greasy, and the filling was flavorful and balanced. The dipping sauce tied everything together with just the right sweet tang. Then came the red curry... and honestly, this is where they won me over completely. I have eaten a lot of Thai food over the years, at restaurants all over, and this was by far the best red curry I have ever had. The coconut curry was incredibly rich but not heavy, with deep layers of flavor that tasted slow crafted rather than rushed. The spice level warmed you without overpowering the dish, and every bite tasted intentional. The chicken was tender, the vegetables fresh, and the sauce was so good I didn't want to leave a drop behind. You can tell when a restaurant cooks with pride and care, and this place absolutely does. Friendly service, comforting atmosphere, and food that genuinely stands out from the crowd. If you're anywhere near Virginia Beach and craving Thai, do yourself a favor and go. I will absolutely be back and already can't wait for my next visit.

But that was so far from the truth!!! This was the BEST Thai restaurant I've ever tried here in Virginia Beach! The service was also incredible! The place is clean and very spacious. We ordered fresh spring rolls, fried spring rolls, lava shrimp, tom yum and pad Thai. Nothing was greasy, the shrimp was cooked excellent and weren't the tiny shrimp. It was just a few pieces scattered throughout the dish. The noodles themselves were bland and dry. I recooked the food and seasoned it and it was better! I added sesame oil, chili crunch, garlic, kewpie, green onions, and sauce. The leftover bowl came out as one big stuck together noodle when we opened it. So we ate it kinda clumped together. If they'd add more sauce and flavor to the dishes, it could be more enjoyable. Or even offer a side of sauce to add extra if needed, that would be good. I prefer to order their food and spruce it up myself saving me time instead of cooking a whole meal. But it would be nice if it came ready to eat and tasty. It's not the worst, it just needs something to make it pop!

Our waitress was friendly, and Toi exceeded our expectations, helping create one of the best dining experiences we've had in a while. The drinks arrived quickly, followed shortly by our food. The pork wontons were packed with flavorful meat--no cream cheese filler--and were absolutely fantastic. The calamari was lightly breaded and paired perfectly with the authentic Thai sriracha sauce. The star of the evening was the crab fried rice. It was packed with flavor and perfectly prepared. My husband ordered the spicy duck stir-fry, which was fresh, tender, and had no gamey flavor whatsoever. The kids shared the chicken Pad Thai, and it was amazing--well-balanced, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The portion size was generous enough for four kids to share comfortably.
