Honestly, I really, really wanted to like this place. I saw so much hype about them on social media, and since I love bubble tea, my friend and I decided to check them out during their BOGO grand opening on Friday.
We went around 3:40 p.m. and were told the wait would be 2-3 hours. We still placed our order and planned to come back later. We returned at 6:30, but our drinks still weren't ready. We came back again at 7:00, only to be told they suddenly couldn't find our order and had to remake it. We didn't end up getting our drinks until 7:20, so we waited almost 4 hours in total.
Honestly, if the drinks had been amazing, I probably would've still been happy. Unfortunately, they just weren't very good. The jasmine tea was bland, not very fragrant, and had a strange aftertaste. Maybe the milk was bad? Both jasmine lattes we ordered had the same weird aftertaste. The whipped cream on top was also pretty average and didn't feel special in any way.
The small Strawberry Latte with Matcha Whipped Cream was $9.20 before tax, which feels quite expensive for such a small drink. (The drink itself is $7.75 and the whipped topping costs an extra $1.45.) I found that a bit misleading because all of the matcha drinks in their photos appear to include the cream topping. Since it's an additional charge, I was expecting the matcha cream to be more flavorful, fuller, and better presented. Also for the promotion they only gave me a $7.75 discount even though the the matcha was actually $9.2 and my other drink was $8.75.
I took the photo about 15 minutes after getting home, so the whipped cream did deflate a bit but you can clearly see that the whipped cream wasn't filled to the top like it is in their promotional photos or else there would be more whipped cream even after deflation. A lot of other bubble tea shops actually provide whipped cream in a separate cup for takeout so it stays more intact. If they're promoting it as one of their signature items, I think they should look into better takeout options for it.
The Strawberry Peach Frappe, even with less sugar, tasted very artificial and was still extremely sweet, almost like eating candy. The Strawberry Tea and Glutinous Lemon Tea were okay, but I wasn't particularly impressed by them either.
Ironically, my favorite item was the free gelato they were giving to customers who were waiting. The jasmine gelato was actually very fragrant, flavorful, and creamy. That's what I imagined the Jasmine Snow Tea Frappe would taste like. Again maybe the milk in our lattes were spoiled because it did have a very weird aftertaste.
I honestly felt bad for the staff while I was there. There were only about 3-4 employees working, and they looked exhausted and overwhelmed. One staff member even apologized for being slow because they were overstimulated, and I told them not to worry about it. There were cups stacked all over the pickup table, so it was obvious they didn't have enough people working.
Teapresso has been heavily advertising on social media, so I think they should have been better prepared with more staff to handle the crowds and keep wait times reasonable. A lot of people actually requested refunds because the wait was so long.
The store itself is very clean and modern. They have two self-order kiosks, which is nice because you can easily browse the menu and read the full drink descriptions before ordering.
I wouldn't be coming back though, not worth the money especially when they're in a plaza with a lot of really good boba places. read more
