I went to the La Mesa storefront and specifically stated our problem and asked whether there was a technician who was knowledgeable in this area. The person there assured me that they could handle the problem and would send out a knowledgeable technician. The tech who arrived seemed to think it would be a snap. Three hours later it still wasn't resolved and he left because he wasn't able to work overtime. There was a tech connected over the internet who after several more hours was also unable to fully resolve our problem. They didn't charge the whole fee, just 2/3 of it but the issue still exists and I'm looking for a competent tech. read more

I've had good experiences with this business. They were able to find a difficult part and fix my computer so I didn't have to throw it out after my warranty compensated me for a replacement because they said the part was no longer made but yet this company was able to find one. They also recently saved me in downloading 8 years of my emails from my employer's server before switching jobs. Good service. read more

Dont trust their ebay account tech2upcrepair from La Mesa, Ca. I sold them a gaming laptop with a dvd writer and sleeve case. They said the laptop and the charger were missing but everything else was untouched. They scammed me. I try to call the cops but they said it was a civil matter and cant do anything about it. Now im out of money. I bought my laptop for $1040 bucks. When i try to open up an usps insurance claim i called both my local and the la mesa post office they said he has to bring the package to his local post office for inspection and refuse to do cause "We're a computer repair company and it's not possible for us to close the store to do this.". So he open up a case and ebay side with him and sent the item back. The laptop and charger is missing now. The other items are fine. I try to call the cops no help at all. I file a ic3 report on him and mail fraud but idk if that will help or not. read more

I will start this review with something positive. In 2015 I had Tech 2U build me a gaming desktop computer. I think it was Ian who helped me. He was very nice, took my input and filled in the rest to make a very nice desktop. I was happy with their service. Now fast forward to last month, this is where the 1 star rating comes in. A high pitch squeal started coming from my computer out of nowhere. I don't blame Tech 2U at all for this, hardware breaks down. But I figured they were good before, I'll have them fix this. I call them up, let them know I'm getting a high pitch squeal (I think from the graphics card) just minutes after I turn my computer on. They say this is right in their wheel house. So I bring it in to Ronnie and wait to hear back. I end up having to call them to get an update after a couple days, they say they are still working on it. They call back the third day and say it's the power supply that is the issue, we should replace it, so I tell them to go ahead. They call back a couple hours later, turns out it wasn't the power supply. Couple days later they tell me the motherboard needs to be replaced, so I tell them to go ahead. They have to order it but they'll "rush" it because I paid for the rush service. Guess I've been spoiled by Amazon prime, because "rush" was 5 or 6 days. They finally call me back and say they have good news and bad news. Good news is the new motherboard works and the squeal is gone, bad news... both my hard drives are fried and completely unrecoverable.... I was upset to say the least, because not only were my hard drives working fine before I brought it in, they were going to charge me to replace them. I went in to pick up my computer (which it turns out wasn't even ready) and asked the tech guy there why I'm paying for these hard drives. He said because the motherboard destroyed them. I said but it worked when I came in. He said during diagnostic that it fried them. So I said so YOU guys did something...and destroyed them. He said I'd have to take that up with Ronnie. After leaving I called up Tech 2U customer service and spoke with Jeff. Jeff tells me that my motherboard fried the hard drives and that it was no fault of their tech people. I told him I had no issues with my hard drives before, it was just that noise. I told him what the tech said about the diagnostic and he said "He must have misspoke." He tells me that my computer wouldn't even boot up and when they did boot it up with the new motherboard, that it fried the hard drives. This is 10 days after I brought it in, and they are just now telling me that supposedly my computer didn't even start? I argued for quite a bit, but he just insisted that it was MY motherboard and nothing they did. Jeff asked me if I had Ronnie start up the computer at the store when I brought it in... no I did not, I made the ignorant assumption that I was dealing with an honest company. Now whether they are incompetent and destroyed my hard drives on accident or just malicious and gouging me for more money I don't know or care at this point. I will never be using their services again. *edit* I forgot to add that when I was finally able to get my computer (it was Saturday evening), I realized that I couldn't even access the new 1TB hard drive. Well now I had to wait until Monday to ask them about it. On Monday I call Ronnie and he uses a remote desktop control to go through some setting and makes it accessible again. But really? They installed two new hard drives in a customers computer, and not once did they think to check and make sure you could access them? These guys are not tech experts, they have about as much knowledge as someone who watches tech videos on youtube. Maybe you will have better luck, but if you do bring your computer in, make sure you start it up in front of them, point out the problem exactly (show them what hardware is still working) and maybe even get it on video... cause they can say whatever they want later if you don't. EDIT: the customer service for tech 2u has been absolutely amazing. they contacted me quickly after I posted my review. when I wrote the review I was extremely disappointed but my computer is fixed and it works great. they went above and beyond to accommodate my needs. they were in constant communication with me every step of the way until my issues we're resolved I would not recommend this business to handle your high end gaming computer. there was issues from the very beginning. I specifically stated what I wanted done and they did the opposite. I followed up with an email stating what I wanted and when they called me to pick it up, those items still had not been addressed. I spent alot of money on my components and I wasted a lot of money trusting them with my computer. instead of troubleshooting certain issues, they literally just gave up and asked me to come pick up my computer. Here's the deal: you can either wait two weeks through GeekSquad or have your computer repairs done within three days. I personally choose the latter. If you live in the SDSU/La Mesa area, definitely hit up Tech 2U. They are professional, and while they might be a little pricey, its often a pricey profession. They did a fabulous job on my laptop screen--it looks better than ever! And they did it in less than a day! Go here before going anywhere else. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Tech2U in La Mesa. I worked primarily with Jonathan but everyone with whom I interacted was friendly and kind. I was trying to retrieve data from external hard drives that were my late husbands. This was sensitive on a variety of levels. They were so helpful and they consistently keep you informed of costs. They take things one step at a time and if they aren't successful that step is at no cost. The best was that they were able to retrieve the data from one of the drives and that was a huge set of photos that I had been unable to find on his iMac, iCloud or dropbox. David and Jonathan (the store manager), have done their due diligence to help a new PC owner. One I built my PC, it ran to an issue of problems: network connectivity and green screen crashes. Been going back to their store for a month and they were very patient with me and my problems. Although I feel it took too long because some of the solutions to my PC's issues were found maybe of me 10 minutes of googling, they still went out of their way to figure out what was going on. All in all they were very helpful, telling me the end result of my biggest problem was the graphics card, and conducted a very professional matter every time I came in with an issue. I dropped my laptop on a concrete floor and it stopped working. I tried to charge it. Nothing happened. I called Tech 2U and they told me to drop it off at their location closest to me (Hillcrest) for a free diagnostic check. The technician looked at my laptop while I was there. In just a few minutes, he figured out the problem was my charger wasn't working because my new puppy had chewed through the wire! The drop had nothing to do with my problem. The technician was very knowledgable and friendly. I left with a new charger and a fully functional laptop. I could not have been happier. read more

Even more great work from these lovely guys! I recently realized my computer had a Windows 10 upgrade available. I called them and asked them how to go about this. They remoted into my laptop, checked the compatibility, and told me where I could improve for free. So I took them up on their offer and paid for a full clean to get rid of my recent accumulation of malware and had them set up a back up as well. After that, they comfortably upgraded me to windows 10 and even went over the fundamentals with me in regards of how to actually use Windows 10. I cannot thank them enough. I'm even having them come out next week to set up my smart TV! I will always come back to Tech 2U for my tech needs. read more

I was looking for computer repair shop. BestBuy is the most famous repair shop but they take a long time for fixing laptops because they can't fix complicated laptop issues at the store. I'm a student. I use my laptop everyday. Then, I called many laptop repair shops but other repair shops didn't explain well and customer service was not good. Some place was very rude for me. Tech 2U explained very well. Tech 2U staffs explained what is the issue, how much you need to pay, why the cost is expensive, you have 2 options... John and Domic were very nice. Other technical experts were very respectful as well. They worked very fast and did good job for my laptop. I could get a student discount which is $20 off. These guys a ridiculously priced. I cracked my LCD screen on my MacBook Air and contacted them to fix it. They one guy quoted me a price and I wanted to think about it and when I called back to get work done price had somehow raised? The final quote was almost $800 and on top of that they claimed they had to order my screen from out of the states and it was going to take 2 weeks to even get my screen in. I said no as everyone knows you can get a new Mac Air for just a little more then that. I picked up my computer and contacted one more person "Geeky Clean PC" Scott was amazing and fixed my computer in 3 days for.....$375 +Tax. Tech 2U has 0 customer services. This is one of the best repair experiences I've had in a long time. The technician was friendly, knowledgeable and got the work completed very quickly. My desktop pc hard drive had a major error and it had to be replaced and the data recovered. I am now gliding along with a new SSD drive and all my data saved and with a new operating system. Absolutely one of the worst tech companies I have ever experienced. Brought in a Mac with a cracked and broken screen (it was not a small problem, so i do give credit for that) and had to wait 2-3 weeks to even receive an estimate. I am a college student and I don't really have that time without a laptop (they told me a 3-5 day wait). It only gets worse. I was told my laptop would be expensive to fix and it would be worth it to purchase a new one, so I did. About two months later here I am with a completely useless laptop that won't even turn on. Brought it to Apple and I was sold a used laptop that had issues before (I have receipts. Genius Bar opened up the back. Logic's board is OLD and completely dead/useless). Basically paid for a new laptop to receive an absolute piece of shit. Not only are the employees rude and unhelpful, but obviously are only out to scam customers. I am a 20 year old female and honestly feel as if I was taken advantage of. The money to pay for this laptop was a lot for me, I am a college student, and I work nights to barely make it by.
