My Audi Q7 broke down last week and was inoperable for six days. Ben took my call and kept me calm and focused while we tried to figure out what exactly was going on with my suv. After a few minutes on the phone we thought it was best to have it towed to the nearest shop a few miles away (by the way, this was an evening/after hours call). Ben helped get me a tow and offered to send me a car to be driven home. I opted to walk down the street to a local restaurant to take advantage of my stranded situation (that's an entirely different story). Back to my review. The next morning the Nielsen team helped me understand what was going on with my suv, the options available to me, and provided a detailed break down of the costs associated with the five years of neglect and work needed to be sone to my suv. The number was a big number but there is a cost associated with having skilled technicians on staff to do the work and do it right. I was ok with this and they were kind enough to work with me on the price. Through the entire process, Ben and his team kept me in the loop at all stages of the service, until my car suv was ready for pick up. I recommend anyone looking for a hard-working, honest team to service your car or SUV to look no further than Ben Nielsen at any of his locations. My wife and I often use one of their locations in Alexandria on Colvin street because it's closer to home, but when my Audi broke down, skyline became the best option. There's no financial incentive for me to give this review only the gratitude, gratefulness, and my overall desire to thank the team for what they did. Thank you Ben and the Skyline team!

Sometimes the work is fine and sometimes its not. Too often I drive out with a new problem that I did not have before. A year ago this happened with the Steering Gear Box, which started making a grinding noise as soon as I left the lot. I had to bring it back and pay for a new one. Today, I brought it in for a few minor issues and an inspection and oil change. I also asked them to look at the rear end because I was sometimes experiencing a light "clunk" when I would drive over bumps. They told me the rear differential was making that noise. It seemed odd to me that the rear differential would be the cause. So I told them it was not a big enough issue at the moment to justify $3,000 for a new rear differential. I drove it home and - voila - the rear differential is now making a grinding noise (it was not before). The clunk is still there, but that is not on them. I am not going back because I never know if I am going to drive out with more problems than I came in with.

Bill kept me informed every step of the way with various options and what made sense to do now versus waiting for another time. The thing I appreciate the most is that they are very open and honest about what actually needs to be fixed vs can be deferred. I've also always felt comfortable declining services and never felt pressured to get anything that I didn't need to. One time we had a tire puncture and thought we were going to get it repaired at the shop but quickly realized we would need all four tires replaced so decided to get it done at Costco tire center. We asked if they could help us put the spare on so we can drive the car back and they did everything with no questions and free of charge. Highly recommend!

He continued to look online and found a transmission flush was needed for 90K and would cost $300. I decided to only have the 85K service work completed and told him so. As was leaving the station, I asked if the work would only be the oil change and tire rotation and he said "yes". The next day, I called him and he stated he performed the transmission flush work for $300 without my consent. We discussed it and he stated he would remove it from the bill. In good faith, I paid the extra $300 but will no longer do business with Smokey's Garage again.

Here's what happened: I brought my car for a state inspection plus an oil change and tire rotation. During the inspection, I was told there was an exhaust leak and that the exhaust system needed replacement. The cost quoted was over $1,000, and I approved the work, being warned there might be a smell afterward. When I drove the car home, the cabin quickly filled with white smoke, and I smelled something burning. When I popped the hood, I saw the dipstick hanging halfway out. I called the shop immediately and asked them to come evaluate it (because I didn't feel safe driving it). While speaking with staff over the phone, one of the mechanics told my daughter she was "only worried because she was a young girl" and shifted blame to the alternator (insisting the issue was unrelated to the exhaust repair). We brought the vehicle back and reluctantly paid over $1,000 for an alternator replacement. Since then, the check engine light has come on. On multiple occasions, when I've tried to ask questions or get explanations, I was spoken to in a condescending, dismissive way. Instead of guidance or accountability, I was met with defensiveness and hostility. After all of this, I can't confidently say the repairs were done correctly or ethically. I expected transparency, good communication, and professionalism -- and was very disappointed. I hope others are more cautious with their service choices.
