I brought my car in for the 85K service which consisted of an oil change and a tire rotation according to the manager. He continued to look online and found a transmission flush was needed for 90K and would cost $300. I decided to only have the 85K service work completed and told him so. As was leaving the station, I asked if the work would only be the oil change and tire rotation and he said "yes". The next day, I called him and he stated he performed the transmission flush work for $300 without my consent. We discussed it and he stated he would remove it from the bill. In good faith, I paid the extra $300 but will no longer do business with Smokey's Garage again. read more

1 star I'm writing this review after a very frustrating and expensive experience with Smokey's Garage in Falls Church. Here's what happened: I brought my car for a state inspection plus an oil change and tire rotation. During the inspection, I was told there was an exhaust leak and that the exhaust system needed replacement. The cost quoted was over $1,000, and I approved the work, being warned there might be a smell afterward. When I drove the car home, the cabin quickly filled with white smoke, and I smelled something burning. When I popped the hood, I saw the dipstick hanging halfway out. I called the shop immediately and asked them to come evaluate it (because I didn't feel safe driving it). While speaking with staff over the phone, one of the mechanics told my daughter she was "only worried because she was a young girl" and shifted blame to the alternator (insisting the issue was unrelated to the exhaust repair). We brought the vehicle back and reluctantly paid over $1,000 for an alternator replacement. Since then, the check engine light has come on. On multiple occasions, when I've tried to ask questions or get explanations, I was spoken to in a condescending, dismissive way. Instead of guidance or accountability, I was met with defensiveness and hostility. After all of this, I can't confidently say the repairs were done correctly or ethically. I expected transparency, good communication, and professionalism -- and was very disappointed. I hope others are more cautious with their service choices. read more

I want to start this off by saying: I was never once a customer here. Let me explain, My husband and I were in two separate vehicles attempting to drop off our U-Haul truck after moving here. The U-Haul entrance had been blocked off by several trucks to I attempted to turn into smokeys in order to turn around. As soon as I turned into the lot they were scrambling to kick us out, one of the men (shorter) walked up to my husband and was talking with him. The taller man walked up to me aggressively, calling me stupid and other names while I attempted to explain how I was just turning around. I couldn't even actually explain because of him yelling at me and making a scene, he had walked off not even a moment later to go get lunch while the shorter man told my husband we could park there for a moment. I never write reviews but based off of me not even being a customer, the way they treated me was DISGUSTING. (Any auto shop with a four star or above is good in my book!) Walking in on a random December Tuesday morning, the man treated me with kindness and promised to inspect my car within the hour. Setting expectations that it would cost $62 to stabilize or remove the plastic, he directed me to wait at Starbucks across the street. Instead, I walked 20 minutes to Rare Bird for better coffee. What's happened to Smokey's? Whoever worked the front desk the last several years is no longer there and replaced by a surly, sarcastic, rude guy. Simple questions over the phone about bringing a car in for an oil change are met with a rude tone about them not taking appointments for that service and to just bring it in. Then when the car is brought in - told they can't accommodate an oil change for a week! When questioned - "we'll it's not yesterday, yes next week". Maybe you should take appointments and replace the front desk guy! Smokey's used to be reasonable priced and was our go to place, disappointing we will have to go elsewhere now. read more

Brought my car in with some issues with the window regulator. Took the car for 3 days with no calls or emails with any updates. After refusing to answer calls and give information, I came into the shop to take my car. Issue with the regulator was not fixed and they charged $150 for labor. Shakeel approached my car and stated that he can conduct business safely without me getting out of the car. He asked what kind of service did I need. He asked that I move the car near the garage entrance and gave me a customer info sheet to complete. Next Ali surveyed the tire, removed the screw, plugged the tire and set the tire pressure within minutes as I sit in my car. Excellent service! On a whim, this place did the job just fine. I had to bring my car in here on an emergency as the tire pressure in one of my tires was dropping, and I could hear a loud hissing sound coming from it. Fearing I had a flat tire or a nail in it, I called them up to see what they could do. They were honest with me and looked over the tire to find that a nail had gotten in the tire (thank goodness not the sidewall), and that they were able to plug it up for $26. That's not a bad deal considering this was an emergency. They even showed me the culprit, which I'm tempted to post here. So will I bring my car back for future repairs? Maybe. If I'm in the Falls Church area, this place has earned at least consideration when looking at mechanics, but Bradham still works fine for the job because of their location and what's nearby. And yes, I did do my research prior to taking my car over here. read more

They did a quick check and said they could not fix the problem that day, but told me to bring the car back on Thursday early and they would find and fix the problem. I brought the car in on Thursday at 8am, after rearranging my schedule for the day, and was told Smokey's is too busy to look at my car today. Smokey's told me to bring the car in on Thursday, which I did, then they did't comply with their agreement. This is not how a good business operates. read more

DO NOT USE THIS REPAIR SHOP. One star is generous, and I wish I could give zero. I brought my car in for an emissions test to renew my state registration, and while my vehicle was in their possession, they cracked the control screen on the front. The most astounding part is they wouldn't even take responsibility for their mistake and did absolutely nothing to make this right. They just said "we didn't break it." It was in perfect condition when I brought it in and now it's cracked. Despite being very close to our home, we will never use this shop again. If an auto repair shop is going to cost automobile owners more to bring their car in by breaking things they shouldn't even be touching, they really should not be in business. A $28 fee for an emissions test will now cost me hundreds to have my display fixed. Shame on them. read more

Drove in about a year ago. I was making a drive down to Florida and needed my car checked out. I had brand new shocks, slotted rotors and oversized brake pads I gave them. They took about 3 days to give me my car back. When I got it back, there was an awful squeaking and brakes had to be pressed all the way to the floor when I took it off the lot. I drove back and asked them if they even checked their job, mechanic said yes. I got in the car with him and my brother as he drove it in the lot and down the street and he said "I never heard that before." It was a loud squeaking how do you not hear that? They lifted it and said the shock was broken but they still installed it either way and still charging me to install. I even asked why they didn't call me before installing what they deemed broken. No response. I gave them another one, same day delivery and they tried me with the "it's another broken one when we installed it." They also snapped my break line when they tried to replace my rotors. They said "it'll be good [the pressing of the brake pedal to the floor] it'll fix itself later." They charged me extra for the front brake line which THEY broke and also said my Main cylinder was bad so they charged me for part and labor. I told them to put my old shocks back on and I had to drive it slow to the Meineke a few miles down. The guys there checked it and said someone tampered and snapped the brake line and didn't bleed it properly when tried fixing it. They were also shocked that someone would replace the main cylinder on a 7 year old mustang when those things can last a lifetime. They looked at my old one and said nothing was wrong someone just didn't bleed it right, so they installed my old one back on. I still have the new one in my trunk till this day. Sh*t pissed me off so bad, I had to delay my drive to FL almost a week. A simple replace with what I'm giving you turned into a $670 bill for things THEY broke and were unnecessary. They will rip you off especially if you're a female. Like how do you not check the job when it's done? How do you not hear squeaking from the shocks and pedal to floor? I brought my Mini Cooper in for servicing after an oil change at Jiffy Lube. I will be driving across the country at the end of the year, so I wanted to make sure my car was in great shape. I'm the first owner of this car since 2009, so I expected some tweaking and tune-ups. Things I liked about this shop: The person at the front desk, perhaps he's the owner??, is very kind and helpful. He was very patient and always explains everything in detail to me. Great service here. I really liked that they ensured communication was always very clear. Prior to them doing any kind of work on my car, they always made sure to call me, provide the exact amount that will be charged, and they will tell me whether or not the fix is needed right away (i.e. tires are balding, but you can probably still drive it for x-miles before you really need to change it). I liked that they were very honest and upfront about their services. It's also very easy to get an appointment and drop-ins haven't been a problem in my experience. Prior to bringing my car to the shop, I noticed there was faint smoke coming out of my hood when I'm stopped or in idle mode. After they did the diagnosis ($58), they discovered my car's turbo charger was leaking fluid. Ah, that makes sense since the pipe that connects that part is right at the vent. So, I gave them the OK to fix it. They fixed it, everything was great, and I left as a happy customer. A few days later, I noticed the smoke was back and my car started making this clunking and tin can-like sound, especially when I'm accelerating or in the mornings when I first start my car. Great.... I have to take it back to the shop again. In addition, my windshield wiper fluid wasn't coming out. Another headache. So I did a drop-in a few days later in the early morning. They called me around the early afternoon and told me that they have fixed the problem AGAIN, and they also fixed my windshield wipers - free of charge. Great! That won be back again since they didn't charge me AND they fixed the windshield wiper issue. And now, a 3 weeks later, the same problems are occurring again. Engine is rattling, engine light came on, and my windshield wiper fluid is not working again.... It's quite disappointing. Their service is wonderful, but the quality of the work being done is very poor. I'm very disappointed and would not recommend coming here for your services. read more

This place is so amazing! I went initially to have my brakes replaced and they did such a wonderful job that when my battery died a few weeks later I took my car back to have them replace it. Last week the put on four new tires for me, and replaced my windshield wiper when they noticed it was broken. All the guys that work here are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They double and triple check their work and are incredibly fast. I have never had to wait more than two hours. Their prices are also very reasonable, especially for the area. Went to Smokeys for two reasons. It was walking distance to my office and... well its embarrassing, I liked the look of their building. Packaging apparently extends to repair shops now too. I feel so shallow. Actually, they also got consistently high reviews on other sites so I actually felt pretty good. They took the list of suggested repairs from the dealer and promptly chopped a couple off as being unnecessary, a couple more they gave me information to let doing them or not be my informed decision and the remainder they did in a timely and very competent fashion. If you're a woman, do yourself a favor and take your car elsewhere because they will potentially try and rip you off. I took my car in for an inspection and they failed me for having rust on my brake rotors (which after taking it to a more reputable shop I found out is not a legal reason to fail a VA State Inspection) and then tried to charge me $500 to fix my brake rotors so it could pass inspection. These guys were super helpful. I came in on a Saturday morning to get my headlight bulb changed and they were fully booked. I asked the man at the front desk to just check to see if he had the bulb in stock that way I wouldn't have to come back twice (once to check the bulb and again to change the bulb). So he checked my bulb and found out they had it in stock. Turns out a person who was supposed to come in was late for their appointment so he fit me in a 10 minute time slot. Now I'm good to go and saved tons of money relative to what the dealership would have cost. They were at most a third of the price that the dealership quoted me. read more

My experience at this place is as follows: My husband and I went today to get an alignment but before we went, I visited the website. The website doesn't have a lot of information but no where does it say that we needed to make an appointment. I called to make sure that they can do alignments and he kindly said yes. So we arrived there at 8:10 in the morning and his attitude was much different in person. He then proceeded to say that we needed to make an appointment but that he would see if he could get around to it today. He called us back a few hours later saying it was ready. So we went to pick it up and asked about the warranty on his work and he then started to speaking my husband like he was ignorant saying that there was no warranty but it clearly says on the receipt which he got afterward that there is a 12 - month limited warranty. Huh???? Bottom line is this: I will not be taking my car back to smokey's because I don't tolerate being treated in a disrespectful manner. After all I am the PAYING customer but maybe if my skin was the right color in John's eyes, we would have been treated better. read more
