Just want to say how great it was for me to happen upon this company. I needed a replacement screen for my MacBook Pro. They assessed the issue, checked my OS, did a systems check, and then we discussed my options. We agreed to replace with oem screen, but they had to order it in. Uh-oh, how long? Just a day or so. You couldn't find a more unimpressive storefront than this one but what a treasure Other World Technology is! I dealt with Trent and with John in getting my Mac laptop hard drive replaced. First off, it was nice to go into a place that didn't immediately tell you NO! They will not work on Macs. I was given an estimate for the work over the phone and when I came to the store. When I mentioned a possible warranty it took John approximately five seconds to look that info up. They promised the work would be done in a day...and it was. My computer is back and good as new. Mostly because it pretty much is new, with a hard drive replacement. Seriously, both the guys in this shop are knowledgeable and very pleasant to deal with. I watched them interact with people over iPad problems and computer woes and all manner of technology problems. They clearly know their stuff and for Mac users, it's nice not to have to wait forever to get serviced. They do take appointments but I was seen quickly, even without one. This will be my go-to place now for any computer problems in the future. read more

WE have used Techgrove / Johnny Appleseed on. couple of occasions. Overall experience has been mixed. My wife took her iPhone in for a new battery, Service was pretty good and price reasonable. I took my Apple Watch in for cracked case. They did advise me that they did not believe it would be covered, but were helpful in getting it sent into Apple. When the watch came back, Techgrove indicated that it was not covered under warrantee. Before picking up the watch, I contacted Apple Support. After discussing what had happened with Apple Support, Apple Support agreed to, and issued a one time exemption for the repair and contacted Techgrove. When I went into to pick up the watch, Techgrove refused to honor the credit. They told me billing was already done on it and absolutely refused to consider permitting the exception, even though it was approved by Apple. Very disappointing experience. I did work with two different reps, one when I dropped off the watch and a different one when I picked it up. Not sure if I would go back. Definitely would be hesitant to recommend them, at least Apple Watch related issues. read more

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to write this review... Let me begin with the backstory. I first brought my MacBook to TechGrove in March (on a recommendation from a friend) to have the iOS software reinstalled. The staff was really friendly and promptly took care of me. However, I was told that I was using the wrong power cord for my MacBook Pro and was given a recommendation by the employee who returned my laptop to me. I was hesitant to take the recommendation because it was from a 3rd party seller on Amazon and I have always been told to only buy the proper Apple chargers (or else...) But he assured me that it would be just fine & even sent me a link to the specific cord he recommended by email. He sent me on my way and although I was weary of the third party recommendation, I was pleased with the service I had received and decided to trust the advice. My MacBook is a 2015 and I've *luckily* never experienced any issues with it in the 5 years I have owned it. Now fast forward to the end of June. When I tried to plug my power cord in, the computer was not charging. The light on the charger would not even turn on. I had my old charger and tried it as well, but same thing. So I brought my MacBook back to tech grove late June/early July and explained the issue. They took it in, did a diagnostic test, and determined that the logic board had failed. It turned out to be an unexpected, pricey repair at nearly $500 for the part plus labor. It was a bummer, but oh well, these things happen right? I used my MacBook for about one week until I noticed that the same issue was occurring: the charger was not even lighting up. I brought my MacBook back to Tech Grove and tried to address the issue again. Same thing: failed logic board... after only 1 week. Tech Grove replaced it again, and sent me back on my way. The next time, it was only 1 day before the same thing occurred. I brought it back, and diagnostics showed it was the logic board, yet again. This was starting to get frustrating, but I was still being patient and understanding of the situation. At this point I've explained the backstory and the charger that was recommended to me by a Tech Grove employee. I was asked to bring my power cords to the shop to determine if they were the problem (I had already offered to do this, but was told the diagnostic would be enough to figure out the issue). Six visits and several weeks later, I'm really hoping to have my computer back & fixed for good this time. I received a call that during their diagnostics, they had finally determined that it was the third party amazon power cord causing the logic board to fail. I picked my laptop up for the third time, now on the fourth logic board, one month later. While I may have been somewhat naive to take the recommendation, I do feel that Tech Grove is partially at fault for this. When I asked if there was anything they could do to work with me and take some responsibility for a direct recommendation of an employee, I was told that there is nothing they can do for me. I get the feeling that this employee no longer works here, so they don't feel like they should be held accountable for advice he gave. I'm not asking for a full refund, but a $500 repair based on poor advice given from [even a former] employee does not reflect well on the way you treat your customers. I wish Tech Grove were able to take some responsibility for this, and at the very least meet in the middle to make it right. read more

The iPhone repair shop of witchcraft and wizardry would be a more fitting name. Except the dark magic is human mishap, and John and his staff's (one other technician) skills are more jedi-force like than result of some lucky incantation. All nerdiness aside, when I decided to let my phone go surfing on top of my moving car without realizing it, let's just say I was in need of iPhone repair once I figured it out and found it a mile away. It was Easter Sunday so I called Lil'Johnny Appleseed and left a message expecting a callback the next day. I could not have been more wrong. John himself called me about 20 minutes later and while I declined making an appointment at that time-due to sticker shock on the price-he was super helpful and not frustrated to have to call me on a Sunday at all. After some research into other businesses, I realized that John's prices were comparable, so I called back and left a message/scheduled an online appointment for the following day. John not only called me back first thing in the morning before office hours, he also agreed to meet me to let me drop off my phone before his business hours so that I wouldn't have to ask off of work to drop it by. He assured me it'd be fixed by the time I was off by 3pm and he stuck by his word. John seems to be a man of his word in other areas, as I accidentally paid him an extra $20 and rather than assuming it was a tip or just taking it, he called me asap and stayed there so I could come get it. I was a giant pain in his ass during all of this, I'm sure, and would have given him a $20 tip, but sadly I couldn't afford that after these repairs. He will be getting a card with a gift card in it as a thank you but not for $20 unfortunately. Price-wise, savvy Yelpers may find that Johnny's is a tiny bit more pricey than the competition. I asked him if he price matched or asked what he did differently to make the extra few dollars worth my time, and he said that his cost to buy the screens/tools to repair is over $200, so his profit is about $20-$30 when all is said and done. Considering the way he rushed me in and beat the deadline he had set for getting the phone back to me, plus my phone seemed brand new/was cleaned, I think his repair services are worth every penny! He even recommended what kind of case I should purchase to help keep this from happening again. Odd name, superb skills, and spectacular customer service. These are the key points to remember when you find yourself looking for quick and professional iPhone repair and see Lil'Johnny Appleseed's business listing in Yelp. They don't have many reviews, but honestly, aside from the fact that I didn't exactly have repair money budgeted, this was an extremely positive experience in response to a less than positive phone mishap. read more

I took my iPhone 4S in to fix the shattered front screen. It didnt take but about 30 min. for the girl to fix it. I had contemplated buying the parts and fixing it myself, there is no way I would have been able to keep track of all the teeny tiny parts they had to take out. She put the whole thing back together did some testing and noticed a small spot in the corner, so she completely took the phone a part again, fixed the issue and it was good as the day I bought it. I appreciated that the tech wanted it to be perfect before she sent it out the door. This little shop was helpful, reasonably priced and quick! After the home button started to flake out on my AT&T iPhone 4 I went to Lil' Johnny Appleseed to see if it could be fixed. John did the repair while I waited and did it quickly and efficiently. Just what my iPhone 4 needed. After the home button fix, I noticed decreased Wi-Fi range after returning home. After a few emails and some troubleshooting, John was professional and stood behind his work, took another look at my iPhone 4 and corrected the issue immediately. I just wanted to say how happy I am with my experience getting my MacBook Pro fixed here. I myself work in IT and have some experience working on Macs, but I needed to get my device fixed under warranty, and I didn't want to deal with the hassle of waiting around in a crowded Apple Store. The service was, all in all, top notch. I am especially impressed with their documentation of the work done. When I somewhat aggressively challenged the assertion that there was water damage on my machine, I was immediately offered clear and concise photographic proof. BEWARE! This place is a joke. My wife took our iPad here last month to have the glass replaced. It just had a small hairline crack, fully working and in good overall shape otherwise since it was in a Lifeproof case. When we got it back the screen started to lift up slightly and could see dust or fine glass shards forming underneath - not to mention a weird smudge in the glass. When my wife called she was told to bring it back so we did, got it back and now it's acting all glitchy. Called again and asked to bring it back. This time we took it to Phone Medics since they are closer and they said the plastic flap holding down the a "digitizer" part of the screen that controls touch said it was broken. So now I had an iPad that is going to cost more to fix. It's apparent the damage or sometime occurred after. It seemed to me that an accident occurred during repair and of course this company doesn't stand behind their work to make it right. Sometimes you have to learn an expensive lesson. I'll be sure to get my "money back and satisfaction" by letting others know that if this place screws us they quickly pull out the fine print to wash their dirty hands of all responsibility. read more

PLEASE SHARE & REVIEW THIS SCAMMER He deletes negative, valid reviews and has hidden the reviews option on his Facebook page for a reason. There's your first clue. I took my Mac computer to be fixed on October 17th. All it needed was a $180 fix. The computer wasn't connecting to WiFi so they tested to see if it needed a new "motherboard" or just an "airport card". The following week, I got a call confirming that all it needed was an airport card. The piece was due to arrive in a few days. All I owed was $180. All is well, right? Holidays and crappy weather came and went and I finally had time to go down and pick it up while I was in KC. I arrive to pick it up and John Lochert says, "It's been abandoned... anything left here for 30 days gets abandoned for parts." Cue my disbelief and rage. He said, "it's in the email". I pull up the email. NOWHERE did it say in the confirmation email that there was an abandonment policy. "It's in the work order email," he says ... Sure enough, in a separate email, weaved in with other legal terminology, it says items not picked up within 30 days are considered abandoned at owners discretion. Why didn't anyone call me?! Why didn't anyone tell me this when I dropped it off or when it was almost at 30 days?! I didn't get a single courtesy email, text or phone call telling me that this could happen. He had no excuse for that. Instead, this scam artist hides behind the small print of an email (SEPARATE from the initial confirmation email) and SELLS YOUR COMPUTER. I don't get a dime for my computer. How can he SELL MY PROPERTY but not give me a dime for it?! I don't get a hard drive with my kids' pictures, videos, or my book on it. It's gone. Like it never mattered. How does this guy sleep at night KNOWING that their customers might not be aware of this policy. KNOWING that they're giving away people's expensive and valuable possessions. I am disgusted and devastated. And now I'm heartbroken knowing that those pictures, videos and my book are gone, forever. Do yourself a favor and just take your things to APPLE. read more

Took my iMac, with a dead hard drive, in for repair. I had an external hard drive, fortunately. They fixed my machine in one day, including downloading from the external drive. It works! These guys are AWESOME! I spilt water on my Macbook Air for work. Long story short, everything worked but the keyboard and everywhere else across town either said it was a lost cause or were going to charge me $700+. I went here as a last resort and am SO glad that I did. They were so nice and didn't make me feel like a complete idiot like other places did. They gave me a quote of $325 and said they would call me if they found more damage than expexted when they opened it up. They kept me in the loop throughout the entire process. It ended up that they were able to fix it for way less then they had originally quoted. I will be recommending them to everyone I meet! read more

This place is heaven-sent. My Macbook Pro wouldn't turn on & the Apple store told me it was so old that it was pointless to even fix, and I just needed to buy a new computer, because even if I did fix it, it would only last maybe another year. It turns out it was just my hard drive. The owner replaced my hard drive with a brand new one with more memory & I plan on going back to add a data doubler and some more storage. He is very knowledgable about the product, and explained everything that could possibly be wrong, and how to detect common issues. I'm confident that my computer is going to last several more years, and it's definitely worth spending the money to extend the life of the computer. I'd recommend this place to everyone! read more

I agree with the other 5 star reviewers. Our 2011 Mac Book would not boot up one morning, so my husband took it to John. He diagnosed the problem, which was a corrupted file, and had it ready to go that afternoon. John was upfront about the cost, explained the entire diagnostic process, and was very conscentious about us not paying for anything we did not need. I have to say John (owner) came to me like a true gentleman, apologized and asked for one more opportunity to fix my phone issues. Reluctant to give him another shot, I figured what more could I lose at this point? I am glad I put my differences aside and gave him one last shot. I am proud to report John did what he needed to fix my phone and get it working again and I am pleased with the repair. I increased my review from one to two stars cause I feel that best describes my experience at this point. Had things been handled differently in the beginning I would have likely left 4-5 stars from the get go. My best advice I can give for customers of OWT that may have had an issue, is don't be afraid to give John another chance if something is not right. I had an iPad Air that wasn't charging or powering on. I took it to them and explained I think the charging port might need replaced or just cleaned due to my son eating and playing it at the same time. Turns out just needed cleaned took them about ten minutes with their tools and compressed air and works like new again! Best part they did it for free since it was an easy fix!! Outstanding service from Natalie, I needed a LCD screen repaired on an iPhone 4S so I called them in the morning and described my problem, Natalie gave me her diagnosis over the phone, gave me the solution, quoted a repair price and said bring it in and she would repair it right in front of me. I showed up a couple hours later and she did EXACTLY what she said she would do for the price she said over the phone. This post is for the upset lady that left her horrible review, and now having her friends do the same. Every company no matter what they do has a policy, it is life everyone knows this and has to be in forced because of, AKA - sue happy people and people who feel they can just make a company do as they feel is right. I am a busy mom, work a full time job, as I work from home after I get off work, but I would of definitely found time to make a five minute call even if it was after hours leave a message or email. Communication is key to everything in life, it all comes down to the fact, you're upset with yourself that you didn't do your part, and you need to blame someone else for your lack of responsibility. Any business that repairs anything has costs to cover, aka - parts, labor and so fourth, but you expect them to foot the bill as you just do as you please when they have bills to stay open. Fine print is on everything and that is why you always read it common sense!!! You did read your first email with all the policies as they did get a read receipt back, so you knew. In addition, calling personal cell phones and not company phones making threats that you know where they live is completely illegal, your fiancé should know this being a business owner himself. Posting let's make a trip - threats again, this is called deformation of character and harassment, threats against someone's life. You had 30 days, you waited a few days shy of 90 days come in get real, you cannot expect anyone to hold your repaired product that long with no replies to emails I seen were sent, nor a phone call that was made that you ignored. Own up to your mistakes and lack of communication. In addition, yes it sucks you lost all your data, but this is why you always backup your stuff. You could of lost all your information due to anything beyond your control, but you feel the need to try to put people out of a job for your own lack of communication. I am sorry, but you have no case and a judge will tell you that with all the documentation that the company has. I have seen him hold peoples stuff for a very long time and even work with them on payments, but again it's all about communication, take responsibility for your lack of. FYI, Apples policy is 14 days and I can guarantee you that you wouldn't be crying wolf if they did that because you know you're in the wrong. Life is what you make of it, not who you can blame. read more
