My son just finished a one week Lego - Minion in Motions camp. He had an absolute blast and he was excited to go to the camp everyday. He would come home and tell us about what he built - cars, rocket, dinosaur, a remote control that connects to a computer and can play games, etc. - they all sounded very fun! The camp had recess time for outdoor playing, and had a small graduation ceremony with certificates given out on the last day of the camp. The only thing to comment is that apparently they only spent little time building things on the last day of the camp, and my son felt like he didn't do as much as compared to the other days (he said the last day was boring). I am not sure why the last day was different and they had to limit the activities. Overall though, it was a great experience for my son and I would definitely sign up for other sessions again next year! TechKnowHow - builds from first 2 days of camp - Summer Camps Near Me - Foster City, California

This is my daughter's second summer where she has enrolled in a Tech Know How camp. Last summer she chose a half day session (Space Explorers). When I picked her up on the first day she told me she regretted not registering for the full day option (only this specific class had morning and afternoon). So this summer she asked for a full day session and I happily agreed. She learned so much about robotics last year and had a blast. No wonder she wanted a full day session. This summer we chose Mario and Friends (Lego robotics and coding using Scratch). This class was very boy heavy (I think most are) and initially it was only boys checking into class that Monday morning. Her teacher, Ms. Sara-Rachell, who is also an elementary school teacher during the school year, could sense her uneasiness, and immediately addressed it. She made my daughter feel at ease and I saw her face relax a bit more. When I picked her up in the afternoon, she told me she didn't want to leave! She showed me what she constructed (a Mario Kart with a motor, battery pack, and gears) and then demonstrated the Mario video game that she programmed! I was blown away. Every day of the week there is a different build in the morning and a different coding project in the afternoon. I'm just as excited as my daughter is at pick up because I love having her show and tell me what she did during the day. On our drive home I ask her questions and she explains a bit more in detail. The lead teacher, Ms. Sara-Rachell, is amazing. She's experienced, encouraging, funny, informative, loud and fun. If you are able to sign up for a session with her as one of the instructors, definitely do it (although they don't have instructor names when you enroll your child). The two other instructors, Teacher Michael and Teacher Oliver are pretty awesome too (I just happened to chat with Ms. Sara-Rachelle more). They make a pretty solid team! Just a bit about location: last summer we were at the Burlingame location and it was chaotic. There is a lot going on at that campus (other summer camps) so dealing with traffic, trying to find parking, etc. is something to consider if you're a bit more flexible. This year we chose the San Mateo location and it's so much calmer. Tech Know How is the only camp there so there is no issue with traffic nor parking. The only downside is that the school is old, so there is no air conditioning. Thankfully it didn't get too hot this week but it was warm. They do open the windows and turn on fans so it isn't too bad. If you are looking into the Foster City location at the PJCC, it cost more if you're not a member there and you enroll directly through them. Ms. Sara-Richell, if you ever end up teaching a Tech Know How camp in the east bay, please let me know! My girls would love to enroll! read more

My 9-year-old daughter wanted to do coding this summer so I signed her up for several different camps to try out as it was hard to tell the difference between all of them. Signed up for one week with TechKnowHow as it was Mine Craft themed which she also loves. She completed the camp last week at their Burlingame location and had a blast. Every day she came home happy and was excited to tell me about the projects she worked on. The instructors for the week (Michael and Sofia), were so nice, and helpful, and seemed to really love what they were doing and working with the kids. Will definitely be looking for more camps with them in the future. read more

If you want to get your kids started with coding in a fun, low-pressure atmosphere, this is the way to go. The camp actually delivers on what it states on its website. My son just finished his third TechKnowHow camp in San Francisco. The lead teacher, Eugene M, and her colleagues on Brotherhood way were fantastic. My son and his friends loved learning how to apply basic coding to LEGO builds, geeking out over Minecraft, and showing off their work at the end of camp each day. Earlier this summer, my son loved how the camp in it's Castro district location. blended Scratch coding with Pokémon characters. This camp isn't just for boys. Each time my son's attended this camp, he's gone with at least one female friend. While the classes are very boy- heavy, the girls are just as engaged thanks to the staff. In the most recent camp, one of son's friends was the only girl in the camp. She didn't have any prior computer experience, but she was excited to show off her builds and code at the end of each day. All three coding/LEGO teachers were women at be latest camp, serving as good examples for both the boys and girls. My only complaint about the TechKnow How camps is that it takes a good 15 minutes is so convince my son to leave his camp computer, legos, friends and code behind. read more

This is our first experience with these camps and they are fantastic! My 6 year old son absolutely loved both weeks (Time Travelers/Smart Builders and Jedi Engineers) and couldn't wait to show us his new creations each day. Every child receives their own 'work box' for the week and there is just the right amount of instruction to creative, imagination time. My 6-year-old son had a great experience in his online 3-hour "Minecraft Lego" camp. The teacher Kevin is wonderful - he's so playful and engages with the kids really well. He had designs that the kids could easily do with their legos at home, moved at just the right pace, and really connected with the kids on their level. My 7 year old attended two camps during the Winter Break, Space Engineering and Lego Masters, and he absolutely LOVED them! It was his first time attending a camp at TechKnowHow and he had so much fun. When his teacher asked him what was the best thing he made during camp, he responded with new friends. I registered my 7 yr old son for this camp on a whim. I hadn't heard about it before but it sounded good. He loves playing Minecraft on the iPad/iPhone so I figured the camp would be perfect. He loves it! Not only are the teachers fun, young and creative but so are the extended care camp assistants. I walked in for pickup one day and Nesma was playing with him. One day it was soccer. Another day it was cards. She knew how to keep him entertained and happy. He goes home everyday looking forward to the next. I'm so glad I put in the camp and the after camp care. Both of my sons love the Lego camps at TechKnowHow. Last summer they took a Lego robotics class and not only did they have an awesome time, they came out of it with knowledge that they continue to use today, including the stop motion filming they learned in the class. I get the added bonus of seeing their creativity grow and watch (often very humorous) new films. This year my boys signed up again for the iPad film making class. We are really excited to check it out next week. One of my two sons was unable to make the class due to his participation in a summer musical production and although we were inside the "no refund" period, they worked diligently to see if he could attend a later class and when that didn't work out, they happily refunded the money. Very good experience with the Vehicles (lego motors) half-day camp for 5-7 year olds in Berkeley this summer. Both my 5 year old girl & 7 year old boy enjoyed themselves, although the girl had been reluctant going in. I loved that the kids were seated at tables for building time, each with their own tub of legos and supplies - no frenetic chaos or scramble for parts as at Play Well's camps. I am sure we will be back for some course with TKH next summer! read more

I really appreciated that the organization worked hard to create virtual options for this summer during a time that many camps just cancelled their sessions entirely. My two girls, ages 6 and 8, just finished their week at the Jedi Engineering camp in SF. The location was convenient and parking was easy. Their class teachers were Keith Wiley and Ethan Zhang who were a ton of fun and very encouraging in their instructional styles. Their patience have promoted the children's confidence by empowering them to accomplish tasks on their own via guidance. Coincidentally, both Ethan and Keith know how to speak Mandarin and they made a special connection with my girls since we also speak Mandarin. I have sent my child and my nephew to their camps this summer and it has been an absolutely wonderful experience for both my children. Both kids really enjoy how hands on the camp is and how they get to build something of their own everyday. It's a really great way to expose your children to basic STEM and coding concepts and spark their interest for engineering and computer science. My child has had Kelly from Cupertino for more than one week this summer and has really loved interacting with their lego builds and staff. My only suggestion would be to offer more advanced classes because my older nephew has no more of their camps to attend and would love to go back next summer! read more

This was our first time at TechKnowHow. My son was hesitant about this camp because he didn't know anyone there. By Monday afternoon when we picked him up, he didn't want to leave. He was excited to show us his Legos projects through the week and how he was working on Scratch to make games. we signed up for the Mario and Friends class and he loved the coding! The lead teacher, Allison, was amazing. My son seemed to be one of the younger students in the class and Allison was very welcoming and patient when working with my son. On the way home, he wouldn't stop talking about how much fun he had in camp that day. We loved the Holy Trinity location - plenty of parking to drop off my son!
