I have taken my Yamaha guitar here a couple of times over the years for different issues that have come up. In each case, Paul took care of the problem quickly, completely, and for a very reasonable cost. I think most musicians have dropped off an instrument at a shop and thought. "well... I stopped by and the man himself helped me out. He did an inspection on my Blackstar ID 260TVP because it went out due to who knows? Thing smelled like burning plastic when running. It also kept buzzing. Turns out one of the speakers blew out because the components that connect to it had a loose screw that was jumping around. My amp came from UK Guitar center and probably got thrown around. Paul you are amazing. These guys are awesome. I am a service tech in Hawaii and ran across a Yamaha PSRS970 that wouldn't boot. After replacing the main board (not under warranty) the client still had the same issue (although it worked on my bench). So Yamaha service requested I send it to PMTS. I fedex'd it and it was received on a Wednesday morning. By Friday I had it back-- repaired! Can I give more than 5 stars? Paul Morte is the prime example of a great businessman. I have been to his place of business in Orange several times, and every time he has gone beyond expectations to get my keyboards fixed. Not only did he get my issues resolved, but also took the time to make a phone call to Korg while I was there in order to get further support from the manufacturer. I wish the same would go for some of these technical support centers where there was nothing but disappointment throughout. I took a fender deluxe reverb that had blown out and wasn't powering on. Picked up a vintage amp and when I brought it home noticed that only one speaker worked. The store where I purchased it from told me to take it to their "guy" who luckily was Paul Morte. Took my brand new Fender amp in for warranty repair due to rattling microphonic tubes, and these folks diagnosed the problem instantly. They told me turn around time would be roughly 2 weeks, they ended up giving it back to me in less than a week. They went through the amp with a fine tooth comb, replaced the bad tubes, and tightened up the cabinet and chassis screws to ensure nothing else was rattling. A few years ago I moved out of the area (1 hr. away), but I recently brought an SWR bass amp to Morte for repair after taking it to two other shops closer to me that were unable to find the problem. Not only did Paul successfully perform the repair (which turned out to be a relatively simple issue), he completed it within a couple of hours so I could retrieve the amp while I was still in the area - and he charged me an extremely fair price for the work. In the late 90's I was still in high school and I used to take my Marshalls in for services at Paul's. I remember the turnaround time being good and the repairs always held up. fast forward to 2015... I recently purchased a Marshall head and it was suffering from some tube issues. I went over there today to have him check out a couple of amps that I thought had problems. He spent an hour looking at both of them, switched a couple of tubes on one, checked the wiring on another. In the end, he said they were both OK. He recommended that I get a different speaker and tubes for one amp, let me take pictures of the tubes he was talking about. I would have been thrilled just to know that it wasn't something that could be fixed easily and gone home happy to give him five stars just for that extra effort. These guys are the closest authorized KORG service center in my area. Long Story Short: ********************************************** Took in and repaired my nearly-out-of-warranty keyboard and had it ready to pickup within 24 hours. They decided to take it in despite being backed up for service on Korg products for 8 weeks when they found out my keyboard was in it's last month of original factory warranty. ********************************************** I took my Korg SV-1 to get serviced here just shy of my one year warranty expiring. My main quarter inch out put went bad pretty early on in my ownership of the keyboard, but I was using my XLR outs as a work around. I contacted these guys a few months ago and they said that normal service time was about a week. At that time I was using my board pretty regularly, and could continue using my work around until I had enough free time to be without my keyboard for some time to get it fixed up before the warranty expired. Fastforward to Yesterday. April 20th. I finally had some downtime in between gigs, and was getting my macbook pro serviced as well. I didn't bother calling this time around and brought my receipt and my keyboard to the front desk. One of the people behind the counter let me know that they were very backed up right now, and couldn't accept any new equipment for about the next 8 weeks. Major bummer. I let them know that I was about a month from my warranty expiring, and basically asked if I could bring my board back when they weren't backed up, even if it was out of warranty, or said I'd just try one of the other places in my area. This is where they started moving way up in my book--instead of agreeing to my work around, or giving me some explanation on how they're paid by KORG for servicing products or something like that. they instead asked what was wrong with my board, and immediately took a quick look at the inputs, and even at the buttons on the keyboard. (One of my knobs had broken off). They didn't have the appropriate knob (not surprising, when I contacted KORG direct they didn't have it either since I purchased the SV-1 the same year it was released) --And these guys weren't even a parts distributor. They agreed to take my keyboard in, and look at it, and said I could call by Friday (tomorrow) to see what was up, and find out if it was going to be longer than a few days so I could redeem my keyboard if necessary. I got a call at about 1 pm today saying that my board was ready,(!!!!!!) despite their back up. I got my keyboard repaired within 24 hours of dropping it off. I don't know if it was so quick since the repair itself was easy, and I don't care. My triplicate copy of the invoice had a $50 charge that I assume they charge to Korg, but wasn't out of my pocket since I was still within warranty. I've never gotten t his kind of service from ANY type of walk in warranty, or service direct center EVER. I've worked with high school's bands, and their keyboards, and have run the gauntlet to get older keyboards fixed; having had to order keys and parts factory direct, pick stuff up directly from Yamaha's factory will call in Buena Park, and even mail products Like my Presonus Firebox off for an over priced repair. ********************************************** In all my experience dealing with the service end of pro-audio equipment I have never gotten this awesome level of service anywhere for any pro audio equipment I've needed to get serviced ever. ********************************************** For anyone that has any high end pro-audio equipment, whether it's YAMAHA or KORG or whoever else these guys are authorized to warranty or service. I don't know too many guys that are qualified to do this kind of work, but I can honestly that Paul's work and customer service make him overqualified for this stuff. I had been having problems with my Fender amp, and had some bad experiences with the authorized Fender repair centers in my area (one told me that the noise in a 2x12" amp was a bad speaker...after replacing both speakers, they told me that no, in fact it was just a bad preamp tube [a $15 fix]). So I called Fender, and the rep told me that Paul Morte was the best tech in SoCal. As I am a working musician, and I need my gear to work consistently and reliably, I bit the bullet and made the drive from the Valley to Orange County. I had been told on the phone that there would be an approximate 2-week turnaround on service to my amp...but after describing the problem and mentioning that I drove down from the Valley because of the high recommendation, Paul said that he would take a look at my amp right then. Well, he quickly diagnosed the problem (including an incorrect component installed by a different "Fender authorized repair center" in my area), and told me he could fix it while I waited. Bonus - As it turns out, it was fixed under warranty. Paul was gracious and friendly, and we talked for a while after the repair about amp tech, tone, etc, and he demo'd another amp and speaker for me for comparison. It is very clear that he has a passion and devotion to his craft, and he is thorough, comprehensive, and totally competent and professional. When I mentioned I would give him a stellar Yelp review, he was appreciative, but said in a very unassuming, modest way "We're not arrogant enough to worry about those things." Wow. This is one of those experiences you wish you could have everywhere you go. I contacted Paul Morte about a month ago with concerns about my SWR 750x Bass amp head. This was after contacting a couple other shops who wanted me to leave my amp and then they would charge a service fee and a repair fee after the assessment. I went to Paul Morte who upon me entering his establishment said he would take a look at the amp head on the spot. He opened the head looked in noticed there may be a tube issue, checked it through some type of device that looked like something out of back to the future. He checked and rechecked then offered to only charge for the tube.
