Just so you're aware, we were stuck in traffic for over an hour and even called ahead to notify your office that we'd be running slightly late. Despite arriving only about 10 minutes past our scheduled time, we were denied service and treated very poorly, with no flexibility or understanding whatsoever. This experience was incredibly disappointing. The lack of professionalism and empathy shown made it clear that customer service is not a priority at your practice. Dr. Chen is the best optometrist I have ever been to. He answered all of my questions clearly and thoroughly. His examination of my eyes felt thorough and never once during the appointment did it ever feel rushed. His front desk staff were friendly and helpful. There was no up sell of any kind. He even provided important information that didn't have anything to do w/ my eye exam such as not purchasing multifocal lenses online as it will not have the proper fit. A 5 star experience at Dr. Ted's office!!! I have been to 2 other optometrists in the last few years. First was decent but went so fast that I left not being sure my prescription was correct. Went to 2nd optometrist to "fix" it but it took 5 paid trips to his office and he ended up giving me wrong prescription and uncomfortable contacts. After a year of blurry vision I decided to give Dr. Chen a visit. I was worried that my prescription was just difficult from my past optometrist visits but my vision was super sharp within minutes! I have been going to Dr. Chen for a couple years and I tell everyone about him. Quite simply, he is the man!!! He is so thorough and really tries to explain everything happening with your eyes. I had a wonderful experience at Dr. Chen's office this morning! I decided to go to Dr. Chen because he was closer and more convenient for me than the doctor I had been going to forever. Not only did it save me a half an hour drive and cost $50 less than my usual exams, but Dr. Chen was very kind and thorough and gave me new contacts that solved all the vision problems I was having that I had described to him. All the girls that worked in the office were upbeat and welcoming, and they made the whole process(checking in, filling out new patient paperwork forms, ordering my new contacts and applying a discount because of my car insurance) efficient, speedy, and really pleasant!! I did not have a good experience with Dr. Chen. I was given a prescription for contact lenses that did not wind up working for my eyes (they dried out much to easily and fast). Upon speaking with Dr. Chen, while my prescription was still valid, I was told that I would need to come in and pay for another eye exam in order for him to recommend a different type/brand of contact lenses. The employees at the attached Target Optical were even astounded by this behavior and one remarked: "He's giving you the run around huh?" I would not recommend Dr. Chen to anyone as his customer service leaves much to be desired and his behavior borders on fraud. read more

A surprisingly great visit with this optometrist made me realize that I ought to know -- I've been bespectacled and be-lensed since 1985. That is 27 encounters with optometrists, so I say that makes me an expert on eye appointments. Optometry visits are pretty low stakes as they come - go in, sit in front of this machine, sit in front of that machine, sit in the chair, pick between 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, now 4, 1, then read the last line. Of those 26 other visits, did any one leave a lasting impression? Maybe one -- there was the doctor who had been an attorney, then career switched to optometry after a divorce. (That was TMI for a 15 year old, Doc.) So, perk your ears when I tell you that Dr. Chen is good. Upon seeing Sean at Target following the appointment, I blurted out, "That was the best eye appointment I've ever had." You know a blurted statement must be true -- it's practically an excited utterance. What made this eye visit stand apart from the other 26: Dr. Chen took time to really examine the health of my eyes, gave me his thoughts on my old prescription, tried out different lenses to test out solutions for my astigmatism, and answered all my questions thoroughly (which included a wide range of topics from eye care, saline solution, and whether his parents bug him about getting married, and where he is in birth order). Doesn't sound like much but, trust me, I've been around the optometry block a few times, and this doctor is a remarkably good one. What made this eye visit even sweeter: Dr. Chen walked me over to Target where I bought a year's worth of contact lenses at a $60 discount over 1800Contacts prices. Bye bye bye, 1800Contacts!! (I always hated you for charging me shipping -- I spend over $330 every year with you for 6 years, and you can't give me free shipping? F you.) read more

I have been seeing Dr. Ted Chen for last two to three years. He has great bed side manner, and very thorough with his eye exams. I have been wearing contacts for at least 15 years, and been to multiple optometrists. Most doctors do not do the examinations themselves anymore. It was a fresh air to be able to ask questions and had them answered by a trusted doctor. Dr. Chen really takes his time with me every time I am there, and even though I only see him once a year, he remembers me and my eye conditions well. I am very nearsighted and was interested in lasik surgery, and his recommendation was to wait until my eyesight has stabilized to ensure best long term results. I highly recommend him for anyone who is looking for a new eye doctor. read more

Walked in and the Dr. was standing next to the receptionist. Didn't say anything as she took my insurance card, squinted at it, then handed it back to me and said she couldn't say if they took my insurance or not. I am employed with one of the states in the area--the same plan that covers all government/civil workers, police officers, university staff/faculty, etc. I know it's a pain, but most other health-industry offices are relative experts with insurance (relative to the customer themselves) and can call to inquire about what is covered. The two of them just sat there in silence and did not at all make me feel welcome or that they wanted my business. I will not return. read more

Very professional, personable, and knowledgeable! I haven't had any eye doctor spend this much time with me in years. I was previously at the Eye Center about 2 years ago, and after finding out my doctor no longer worked on days I could come in - I decided to try Target and I'm glad I made the switch. Dr. Chen is very friendly and has always been very informative and thorough at every visit. He always takes time to answer any questions and help me find the best contacts, eye drops, etc. whatever I need to alleviate my dry eye symptoms. Booking appointments is always a breeze as well and I have been able to get an appointment within a week of calling. My first visit, he wanted me to come back 2 weeks later for a re-exam because my eyes were very red and irritated. He only charged me for half the exam since he didn't complete it. I thought that was very professional and you could tell me truly cares about the well-being of his patients and is fair. One of my sons couldn't decide on whether to wear the bi-weekly or the daily contact lenses. And he had changed his mind after the initial fitting. The prescription for both my reading glasses and distance glasses are not accurate at all. The reading glasses almost the same like the one I bought over the counter which is +3.25. I came to Dr Chen because I couldn't see fine print and my job requires that a lot but I ended up with reading glasses that will not benefit me at all. The distance glasses were also weak and I tried them for driving with no benefits. Both of them need correction and when I went to see dr Chen the receptionist refused that I get the exam the same day although dr Chen was there and I saw him . They insisted to give me an appointment 12 days later plus 15 days to have the lenses replaced and that's a month already for his mistake. I was also not informed about my eye pressure and I had to call them later from home to know it .The receptionist is the one who measures eye pressure and take a picture of the retina for an extra charge and the quality of the picture is bad and dark. Our time is precious and it's really disturbing to go back and forth to correct the weak eye glasses. I paid $170 for the exam alone and and $278 for the eye glasses and didn't benefit from it, still have to wait 12 days so dr Chen can repeat the exam, and 15 days to receive the corrected eye glasses. read more

The optometrist and receptionists/staff are nice, but...a few things stuck out to me that I didn't like. When I went through the eye exam, and asked questions about stuff, Dr. Chen wouldn't answer them. For example, I asked what he'd suggest for dry eyes, and he'd repeat, "Oh, I'll tell you." It was weird to me that he wouldn't just give me a straight-forward answer. Also, this was my first time getting contacts, and even though they were nice, the staff and Dr. Chen weren't very organized about what they covered and what they should have covered. They just had me practice taking the lenses off and putting them back in, without providing guidance on cleaning, solutions, etc. Update: I had a follow-up and wanted to update my review. Dr. Chen was super thorough in explaining things this time around! I must have had my first visit on an off-day. I would highly recommend. read more

I'm so happy to have switched doctors to see Dr. Chen. My previous experiences with my optometrist were lackluster. The exams were short, nothing was explained to me, and my prescription always made me feel sick. I was discouraged from seeking contact lenses when they were really what I wanted, and as a result I paid for two years of bad glasses. No more! I went to see Dr. Chen and despite a brief insurance issue, he worked with me and got it handled to make everything expedient. The actual exam was very thorough, and he told me information about my eyes that my previous optometrist had never even bothered to mention and likely hadn't ever noticed. I could absolutely tell how thorough he was. He didn't discourage me from contacts but did listen to my reasons for wanting them, and recommended the best contacts based on what I needed. He also let me try out some daily colored contacts I had been interested in and sent me home with a few. I'm in love with them! I've seen Dr. Chen twice now. He is a wonderful doctor who will take the time to get to know you and give you an incredibly comprehensive exam. I felt especially compelled to write a review after what I just received in the mail. Apparently, my insurance company sent him a check for $5.00 after my exam. I'm not quite sure why. But rather than just keeping it - it's only $5.00 and I never would have known anyway - he sent me an image of the original check with a nice, signed message saying he deposited it and is now sending the $5.00 back to me in a personal check. I'm updating my previous review to affirm my exceptional experiences with Dr. Chen continue. My husband and I just completed our annual exams and both had a wonderful experience. Dr. Chen continues to give the most thorough eye exams we have ever received. He spends a great deal of time with us and explains what he is watching in our aging eyes. I have great confidence in knowing that we are being well taken care of. The staff at Target optical are also wonderful in supplying the glasses and contact lenses we need. They also are there for us to do minor tweaks when we need them on our frames. As a package, you can't go wrong! read more

He's next to target. I went in there w/ my 3 daughters. He was friendly, fast, and efficient. He took time to answer my questions. Very nice guy! I also recommend Target for glasses. The sales associates are friendly, knowledgeable, and work well together. Between the 2 of them they helped all 4 of us. They were also patient with me when I didn't find exactly what I was looking for. The selection is pretty good, but not great. For example, the store doesn't carry frameless, which is too bad. Other than that, I had a great experience. They also take Aetna and Davis vision plans, which can help with the cost. read more

Dr. Chen charged me extra for eye dilation and wanted to charge me extra for refraction, but I declined the refraction. I have insurance and both of those services are completely covered. When I had my insurance call him about the overcharge, he claimed that he did a more in depth procedure, like a medical procedure, with my eyes. He did not. Everything that occurred in that exam was an ordinary eye exam. It's insulting. I'm glad I didn't pay extra for the refraction but it's unfortunate that I should've had the service because my insurance completely covers it. I will not be back. read more

Dr. Chen saw both my husband and I last Friday and we were both very impressed. Dr. Chen saw that my husband's retinas were "bleeding" and immediately wrote a referral for him to see a retina specialist ASAP.
