Amazing service! Went above and beyond to find out the contacts I typically wear that work within his network.

I came to Dr. Christopher Renner with my San Diego glasses and he found the small mistake and got me new, perfect lenses. I am so happy now when I drive. I can relax because everything is three-dimensional and sharp. Thank you so much to Dr. Renner and his wonderful staff.

Thankfully they were able to fit me in that same day and I saw Dr. Vinh, who diagnosed my abrasion and immediately alleviated my discomfort with numbing drops and a contact lens bandage over my cornea, prescribing me antibiotic drops to take to prevent an eye infection. Long story short I leaned the very hard way that I am allergic to a specific type of antibiotic eye drop (which for the record Dr. Vinh said was quite rare) and my eye swelled up and became badly inflamed overnight, causing me to return the next day and see Dr. Perry, who took great care of me and gave me steroid drops to bring down the inflammation. A day later and my eye was as good as new, and I saw Dr. Vinh again who gave me a clean bill of health. Simply put, I could not have been in better hands than I was with NOVA Vision Center. The professionalism and care that I experienced from the receptionists to the techs to the doctors was second to none. These folks are good at what they do, they truly care about their patients, and it shows. I now look forward to making them my new eye care place in the future, hopefully next time under better circumstances! :)

LOVE Dr. Larson! I've been coming here to get my eyes checked since I was 7! He is great at what he…read moredoes and always thoroughly examines my eyes. Maybe I'm biased since I haven't been anywhere else but he really is great. A very caring and kindhearted guy.

I needed an eye exam because like an idiot, I didn't realized I was down to my last pair of…read morecontacts and couldn't order more because my prescription is over 2 years old. I have been getting my glasses (2 pair for $99 deal) at MyEyes in Falls Church for a few years now. I really like the customer service there. So, I gave them a call and asked how much an eye exam was with their doctor. I used to have eye insurance and went to MyEyeDr in Ballston (and hated them). I have Tricare now through my husband and there's no eye coverage. I was told if I had "normal vision", meaning no stigmatism or out of the norm issues then it would be $99 for both a contacts and glasses exam. Otherwise it would be $109 (I think...maybe $107? I think it was $109). They had to give me the number to Dr. Larson, his office is not combined with MyEyes' location. Dr. Larson is right next door. I called on a Saturday at 4 PM and got an appointment for Monday at 4:40 PM, which was awesome for my work schedule. When I arrived to my appointment I filled out paperwork and then waited. He was about 20 minutes late, but that's usual with any medical office. He was super nice, he didn't have a nurse or tech come out to get me, he himself did. I went back with him and he was super nice, very talkative, very personable. I recognized his accent and asked him where he was from. He asked me to guess and I said Boston. I was correct. Being from New England myself I said, "Well, no wonder I like you!" He was very thorough with my exam and very realistic. One of my eyes had changed a bit but the other was the same. He asked me if I wanted two different prescriptions or the same for both eyes to keep it simple. I asked if I would notice and he said it was such minute difference that probably not. I decided to stick to one prescription for both. I also had been having terrible dry eye problems with the contacts I was given and unable to change by MyEyeDr at my last eye exam over two years go. I hate paying for unneeded exams and I just wanted to switch back to the Acuvue Oasys that I loved and MyEyeDr wouldn't let me without an exam. I was so irritated that I just ordered another year's worth of the Biofinities online. Dr. Larson put me back in Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear and said if I had any problems with them I could always switch them out. When I went to check out the woman at the front desk gave me both my contacts and glasses prescription with ALL the needed information, no questions asked. I was impressed. I have had the WORST time in the past with MyEyeDr in Ballston because there is some measurement, I think it's the PD ,that you need for glasses and they wouldn't give it to me. I told them it's my information to have, my medical information and they finally reluctantly gave it to me. It's because they didn't want me ordering my glasses somewhere else. I was so happy to have no problems here, I'm very happy and will definitely go back to Dr. Larson....although in another two years....because like I said, I don't like having exams unless something changes and I can get the second year's contacts supply right at the 11 month mark from now without needing a new prescription. :)

After quite a bit of research, I visited Dr. Nguyen to look into problems I was having with my…read moreeyes, which was cataracts. I've wore glasses and contacts as long as I can remember, and couldn't figure out why I was having issues all of a sudden. When I first went to My Eye Doctor to find out why my vision was blurred, they couldn't really figure it out. Thankfully Dr. Nguyen diagnosed the issue immediately. Since I'm younger (mid 40s) to have cataracts, I was certainly concerned with making the right decision to make a correction. Dr. Nguyen was extremely helpful in educating me and informing me of all my options when it comes to cataract surgery and all the different options for new lenses (IOLs). Of course I researched by reading several articles, watching videos, and reviewing tons of marketing by the different companies. I probably wasted a lot of time with all of that as ultimately, I found that I just needed to put my trust in Dr. Nguyen. She is up to date with all the new technologies, and is certainly well respected in the ophthalmology community. I really appreciate all the time she spent with me making sure I understood all of the benefits, side effects, and costs of all the different options when it comes to cataract surgery. Eventually, I opted to have a multi-focal lens implanted so that I wouldn't be dependent on wearing glasses as it helps you with seeing at a distance, intermediate, and reading. I didn't like the idea of seeing halos at night when driving, but Dr. Nguyen explained how there is no perfect lens, that will compare to the capabilities of our natural lenses. I struggled with making the decision, but know that she helped me make the best decision. I had my first surgery on my right eye at the end of 2020, and then a second surgery on my left eye in April of 2022 (after the cataract in my left eye eventually progressed). Everyone at her office was also VERY HELPFUL and kind with scheduling and answering all my questions, especially Nikki! Shortly after the first surgery I probably overreacted to some normal side effects, and thought maybe I had a retina detachment after watching You-Tube videos about it. She came in to her office on her day off, and had a retina specialist also come in to make sure I was ok. They were able to put my concerns at east and confirm I was ok. I really appreciated that. Even though cataract surgery is very common, I was still nervous about it. Both surgeries was well, and I was pleased to hear Dr. Nguyen say it was "text book" right after she finished. In talking with one of the nurses as I was wheeled out to our car, she commented on how if she were to pick an eye surgeon she would definitely work with Dr. Nguyen; and she sees all the local doctors there at the surgical center. That just helped reaffirm I had made the right decision. Now I can see great out of both eyes and no longer need to wear contacts or glasses, which is awesome!

Several years ago, after going through the evaluation process for refractive surgery, I chose PRK…read moreover LASIK because I wanted to avoid the long-term risk of a LASIK flap becoming displaced. Looking back, I was not adequately informed about one of the most significant limitations of excimer laser vision correction, and I deeply regret not pursuing legal action at the time. The excimer laser typically creates a fully corrected optical zone of around 6.5 mm, with the surrounding tissue blended into the untreated cornea using what is commonly referred to as a "blend zone." The purpose of this transition is to reduce the sharp boundary between treated and untreated tissue. However, the blend zone is not fully corrected tissue. If your pupils dilate beyond the effective optical zone in dim lighting, as mine do, you have an increased risk of experiencing starbursts, halos, glare, and light streaking at night. The blend zone did not prevent those symptoms. Despite being characterized as an unlikely outcome during the consent process, I have lived with those symptoms ever since. I also experienced a complication after surgery when the protective bandage contact lens placed over my cornea slipped. The vision in my right eye became noticeably hazy, and the pain was unlike anything I had experienced before, which makes sense given that the cornea is the most densely innervated tissue in the human body. When I raised concerns with Dr. Anh Nguyen, they were simply dismissed. I was told there was no visible scarring despite the persistent haze I was experiencing, and that response never aligned with my own experience or subsequent vision. The potential for persistent nighttime visual disturbances is disclosed in the consent waiver you sign before surgery. They were presented as remote possibilities rather than meaningful tradeoffs that many patients should seriously consider. The paperwork acknowledged them, but the overall impression I walked away with was that they were exceedingly rare and unlikely to occur. By contrast, the therapeutic bandage contact lens--or the possibility of it slipping and causing lasting visual consequences--was never referenced or explained to me in any way. Meaningful informed consent requires patients to fully understand the realistic possibility of permanent nighttime vision changes and other complications before deciding to undergo an elective procedure. Whether the manner in which these risks were presented was the result of negligence, an overly optimistic view of the procedure, or a desire to encourage patients to proceed, I cannot say. What I do know is that the potential consequences I ultimately experienced were not communicated to me in a way that allowed me to make a truly informed decision.
