Came in. I was the only one here at 11:40am on a Saturday. Ordered a chicken gyro and cheese sticks Got the cheese sticks and they were not hot to the touch. But into one and the middle was frozen. Took them to the counter and asked to have the redone. They microwaved them. I know this because then they handed them back to me the cheese melted out of all of them and I specifically asked "were they microwaved???" And they said yes. So I said I don't want them. The lady at the counter said they could remake them I think they just remade the one I had taken a bite of l. Couldn't pick them up. They were too soft and falling apart, and they were stuck to the bottom of the paper boat by all the cheese that had melted out Pretty sure it was still the microwaved ones. If it were busy I would be more understanding of the lazy shortcut. But I was the only person here! The cooks are that lazy? Zero care for quality? You literally need a fork to eat these cheese blobs that can't be picked up and the breading just falls off. I popped into Teds on a whim while waiting for the wifey to get her hair done and I was not disappointed. This place was packed on a Saturday for a reason. The walkup and order counter is a busy but well orchestrated place. Burgers, Dogs, Tenderloins and Gyros are the main items on the menu. They offer some beers and fountain drinks. They also had a kids menu! The staff was fast, friendly and very attentive. I ordered myself a Gyro and a side of Cheese sticks for my better half! Now I want to go back and try some hot dogs! Friendly service and pretty good food options. The guy working the counter was cheerful and polite. You get a lot of food when you order the basket, including what I believe are homemade onion rings. They're a good cross between the thin ones like you get at the Tavern and the thick ones like you see at Applebees. Cole slaw is shredded KFC style, but has red cabbage thrown in. Fries are straight cut and are nothing special. $9 isn't bad for the whole package...drinks are extra. read more

The gf and I stopped by Ted's West yesterday for lunch the other day. She got the coney basket and I got the tenderloin with chili and cheese basket. With one soda and a water it ran $20 and change. Booths were clean, but I think the fountain drink dispenser must have sputtered and sprayed my hand with cola syrup. I noticed some kind of brown crap all over my hand and my cup when I sat down in our seat. I noticed one of the women at another table vigorously scrubbing her hand off too. Glad it wasn't just me... Unfortunately it ended up ruining the gray Patriots shirt (Superman-like logo only available online) I had on as I hadn't noticed the syrup right away, it didn't come out in the wash, and stained the shirt. I can't say I've ever been stunned by Ted's, but it makes for a $10 plate of solid food... Their gyros, tenderloin, dogs, etc... The onion rings and fries... All good. Another of my "reviews from quarantine". We have been fans of Teds for several years. It is out go-to place for gyros now. Since I am not going anywhere for quite a few more months, we have several places we get takeout or delivery from. Ted's has become a favorite. I tend to get an Aristons Delux Gyro, because I like the feta on it. I will admit to having a preference for Chicago style gyros, meat-tzatziki-onions-pita, but this, fancier style has really taken over for me. My only complaint, and it's a mild one, not enough to take off a star, is that their fries are a little wimpy. A place like this should serve hand cut, double dropped fries. S'ok, I have onion rings instead. And they have killer onion rings. My wife tends to get a Shap Dog, which is always exceptional, and as close to a Chicago style dog as you can get in DSM right now. Occasionally she gets a tenderloin, and while not as good as a couple of places that specialize in them, it is still very tasty. So, take out or delivery, Ted's is a mainstay, and for good reason. And once we can start going out again, we'll go there to eat. read more

Manager should know that his workers locked the doors prior to 8:30 pm and turned down a customer that came to get dinner - knocked on the door at 8:22pm. The guy working the register unlocked the door and said the cook had already cleaned everything up. As an owner or manager I would be furious having staff turn away customers prior to closing time. Since the Chicago Dog on Douglas closed and they only have the University location open now, I wanted to find a place closer that offered something like it. I saw that Ted's Coney Island West offered a Shap Dog and noted on the menu as Chicago-style so I ordered it. I must say it's pretty darn good! It has the poppy seed bun with all the toppings so it's definitely been "dragged through the garden" like a true Chicago dog. I also like that they ask if you want sweet or hot peppers with your hot dog. If you read my reviews you'll know I love spicy so yes to hot peppers please! It just gives it that tastier kick. Loved the gyros at Ted's! Worth returning to again and again! The downside: The gyro baskets were not cheap. Two gyro baskets with sodas and one extra piece of pita was $29, which is not what I would consider a cheap lunch. So if you are bringing a family, I would warn you to bring some bank. The upside: The gyros were excellent. I ordered mine regular and Hubs got his spicy. We were both pleased and felt these were the best gyros we have had in Iowa. The baskets come with French fries. No seasoning on them so you can make them your own. The baskets also include onion rings. The rings are dipped in some cornmeal type of batter. The rings were out least favorite item. They were crispy and crunchy, which is great. But they were missing a flavor punch. We didn't eat many of them. The basket also came with coleslaw but we both hate coleslaw, so it was the only part of the basket that we didn't try or eat. However, the coleslaw had good color and looked fresh. read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. The guy who helped us was rude, impatient and just a jerk. I later found out his name is Peter when he was cleaning off tables and my wife and I heard him curse because two tables were pushed together and he had to separate them.
