All the reviews are calling it Carson City's "hidden gem" and "the best food in Carson". The skeptic in me immediately takes over and I walk in as Mr. Cynical. I love it when I'm proved wrong and it benefits me. Let's start with the personal. Two of the friendliest people I've met in a long time, Chuck and Tee Jay. These two can strike up a conversation with anyone. They know their product and are willing to work with you to prepare it just right. They're very modest, too. You can't help but to compliment their efforts. They humbly thank you and continue on their mission. Crazy as this sounds, Tee Jay's is just a lunch counter in the middle of Cactus Jack's casino. So, you can jump on the stool and order a burger and fries, but, IMHO you'd be cheating yourself. The creations are so incredible I literally found myself planning my next visit's meal, and the next meal after that, and after that. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict everything on their menu is phenomenal. I'll let you know once I've tried it all. Forget that you've walked into a tiny, old casino. Forget that the restaurant looks like a 50's snack bar at the bowling alley. That's actually part of the attraction. Watching these two work their magic right in front of your eyes is part of the thrill. I can't believe the incredible attention to detail on all the dishes. At one point, Chuck turned and asked if I have any gluten or cilantro issues before he continued. Tee Jay continuously checked in on us. He kept that sensational Jasmine iced Tea topped off before we ever had a chance to request more. Try anything on the menu. Anything. I was bold and went for the Tuna Noods. A dish that knocked me on my backside in shock. Think of the best tuna casserole you've ever had. Mushrooms, celery, onions with cracker crumbs on top. Now, times that by ten! Mrs. E. raved about the Drunken Noods plate that she ordered. I tried it and she was right, it was this side of perfect! I feel the prices are in line. The surrounding atmosphere is horrible for food of this quality. Okay, get over that. Momma used to say "Don't judge a book by its cover." The owners are top notch and deserve your business. I've been waiting to check out this place for a while and finally came in here. At first glance I was a little turned off at the cigarette smell but I didn't let that decide my evening, I mean after all the place is inside Cactus Jack's casino. I ignored the smoky air and made my way to Tee Jay's counter. Pretty soon the spicy garlicky aromas took over my senses and I was a happy camper. I came here strictly for the Drunken Noodles and ordered them with extra fresh Thai peppers. I also ordered the Lumpia and fried wonton pockets with beef appetizers. My son ordered the beef chow mein. The appetizers were perfectly fried, not greasy at all. My drunken noodles tasted yummy, they came with a lot of fresh broccoli which was unexpected but made me feel healthy eating it; loved it. My son's chow mein came with the same vegetables and looked similar to my drunken noodles but they tasted quite different. They use different sauces for each of these dishes and you can taste the difference, this was a nice surprised. I've been to restaurants that use the same seasoning in all the noodle dishes so they all taste alike, only the type of noodle changes. I wanted to have the mango and sticky rice but Tee Jay said the mangoes were not as ripe as he'd like them to be so he didn't want me to be disappointed. I appreciate the concern to serve the absolute best and not just serve me something that's not to his standards. I'll call next time and hopefully they have ripe mangoes. I have to say I absolutely loved Tee Jay's and I'm happy I stayed. They cook all different types of street food and comfort food such as burgers, hot dogs, beef stew, tuna casserole, and clam chowder! Don't pay any attention to the casino you have to walk through to get to TJs. It's worth it. When you sit at the counter, the staff will tell you about what makes Indonesian food so different. Wow, this was very, very unexpected. TeeJays is a lunch counter inside a dank, smoky casino. Yes, you need to enter the casino and cross the gaming floor (it's small) to get to the restaurant. It's got maybe a dozen counter stools. And it is the only place in at least a 300 mile radius serving Indonesian food. I ordered the mie goreng (noodles) with tofu and it was superb. Spicy, full of fresh vegetables, a wonderful savory sauce, and clearly made with love. Next time I will try the nasi goreng. (They also serve burgers and all-day breakfast - gotta admire this two man operation!) I'm very rarely in Carson, but now I know where I will be eating lunch every time I am. read more

What a Great Little Cafe. We went for lunch as we had seen the place Before during Nevada Days. As we walk up they were thinking about Closing for the noon break, but said " Please let us help you , What would you like". A local gem. Both food and service were top notch. We got the murtabak (beef wonton-like) appetizer, drunken noods, and the updated shrimp scampi (off the menu but Chuck made it for me) yesterday. Today we got the Singapore noods and Indonesian fried chicken with fries. Also Thai tea and the house jasmine iced green tea (not very sweet, very refreshing) as well. Everything was delicious but the standouts are the murtabak (which were so yummy, flavorful and light but savory) with the house hot sauce ( and very garlicky AKA the best hot sauce we've had on our travels so far), the drunken noodles which are on the sweeter side but hearty and savory, and the shrimp scampi (chewy rice noodles instead of pasta made it much lighter and easier on the stomach- i love pasta but this was a pleasant surprise!) Fyi the restaurant is located inside the casino - enter by the door on the corner and go past a few rows of slot machines. You'll see the counter and the "open" neon sign. TeeJay and Chuck both cook, host, and make excellent recommendations. We also got great travel tips and enjoyed the recommended drive around the Tahoe area. Everyone else at the counter was a local and i can see why people become regulars. It feels like home cooking and home. You have to go inside Cactus Jack's to find the restaurant. Lots of parking outside. You can sit at the bar and watch the masters cook, or order take out pho, chow fun, chow mein, other Thai food including pad Thai, or burgers. I ordered chicken pad Thai as is was Pad Thai Tuesday. Spouse ordered Thai eggplant stir fry. We also had Thai iced coffee and sodas. They serve almost Beef RendangDeluxe Grilled Cheese Sandwicheverything here. This is a solid 3 and may change after I go back and give it another try. And, I will be going back for another meal. I went with a friend who loves this place but didn't want to tell me where it was because of the condition of where it is located. It is located inside one of Carson Cities oldest casinos that could definitely some freshening up but don't let that discourage you from walking and giving Tee Jay's Corner Café a shot. It is run by two very friendly gentlemen who seem to love what they do and are service oriented. I had the Red Curry and my friend had the Wonton Soup. We both enjoyed our meals and the conversation with Tee and Jay. The Red Curry needed something more and I asked Tee if he had and chili sauce. That was just the ticket and added just the right amount of heat and taste to the meal. Not so sure my stomach agreed with me later but it was just what the flavor needed. When the description says corner it is Absolutely true. They are in a corner of the casino and have 5 stools on either side of the very cozy kitchen. So you get to hang out with them and watch them cook. They definitely take care in what they serve and with limited space they offer a surprisingly good verity of food options. Don't be suspired if there some tweaks to traditional items, with limited space they have room for menu items. I will be back for another meal and will update my post then. Almost hate to say this because I want to be able to get a seat when I go back but defiantly would recommend stopping in and say hi and the next time you are in Carson City. read more

I've been coming here since I found this place three years ago. At first I was hesitate but they were so polite and invited me to sit down while I check out the menu. Quite a big menu for such a tiny cafe. Long story short, I finally decided to stay, I ordered vegetable lumpia, pad Thai with chicken and Thai iced tea. The lumpia was golden fried, it contains shredded cabbage, tiny white noodles, onion and carrots. So simple with memorable flavor. Next, unlike other places I have been to, their pad Thai was different. There's a twist in the flavor. Sweet, savory and little spicy. Oh so yummy ( I ordered another one for my husband because it was that good). The Thai iced tea wasn't too sweet, it's just right. They even refilled my tea. I think it's only from this place I have free refill on Thai tea . My second visit was one week later, I had spiced island fried rice and my husband had king Pao chicken. They Didn't disappoint us. From that first time I encountered this place, I knew that I would be a happy customer. I can not count how many times we visit Tee Jay's Cafe. All I can say is that I love this place, I love the people that work there. They are genuinely good hardworking people. This is our family's favorite place. May this place continue to shine. We have now officially found our favorite Carson City road-trip stop. This is a darling food counter inside the very small Cactus Jacks casino. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, the staff is incredibly friendly & welcoming. They have a large menu with lots of delicious options. If you are at all adventurous, my recommendation is to try the Indonesian pot roast. The lumpia was really, really good and their Jasmine Iced tea was fresh brewed and over the top good. Don't let the location fool you - you *can* get incredible food in a casino. Not often mind you, and almost never in a weird little casino like Cactus Jacks, but Tee Jay's is not to be missed. The casino is nothing to write home about, but the hominess of the diner counter and welcoming nature of Tee Jay and Chuck make up for it. I admit - I have the same thing almost every time - the Spicy Eggplant. The spice level is perfect - just enough burn to accent the flavors but not so much as to overwhelm them. If you are spice averse, see if the recipe is able to be turned down a notch - I've never asked so I don't know if it can, but if Tee Jay can do it I imagine he would, and It's not to be missed. I've had it with tofu and with chicken. The chicken is great, but the tofu is *amazing* - it picks up all of the spices and is perfectly cooked. I've also had the lumpia, the pad thai, and the green curry - just wonderful. I could absolutely eat there every day and have never had a bad meal.
