OK. Talk about good prices from the past! (sorta) So my husband suggested this great idea of stopping by here for lunch today because he used to go here with his friends and family back in the day. He bragged about how good it was and how the price was totally unmatched from other places. He was totally right! We all ordered the lunch special and it was eleven bucks. It came with your choice of one entree, rice, chowmein, choice of soup, and one eggroll. Pretty awesome huh. The service was excellent, you can hear them make your food and it felt like we only waited for 10 mins. The only one thing I'll comment on was that my main entree was a bit too salty and my husband also agreed that his entree was also too salty, but overall still good. Lastly, the environment was a total early 2000s Chinese Restaurant vibe. They weren't busy when we went so my first time experiencing eating here was pretty neat. We love this Asian restaurant. They have a great lunch special. 10.00. Rice, noodles with chicken, main entree', egg roll, soup. Can't go wrong! It's clean, always friendly, and quick. This is one of my fav Chinese restaurant. Every time I come to Reno or any where nearby I make sure to visit this restaurant, this time I came with my 3year old. I was so touched my their gesture as we ordered food for two people and some shrimps for my 3 year as she usually eats rice so as their quantity was more than enough I shared my rice with her. All the other Asian places closed on Sunday? Not this one! And what a treat! Oh how wonderful! A REAL Chinese restaurant! I've been driving past this place for years and wondered about it. Finally went and I'm just gonna say it will be a long time before some of the others get me to come back as this is an EXTENSIVE MENU! Written in English and Chinese, the server and cooks are Chinese and were talking away, in their native tongue, while we ate our meal, an added bonus for the ambiance. I fell in love with the place right off as they bring you water, no straws, and hot tea without you asking! The dishes all match with that red border seen in many Chinese diners. Ok. So. The food!!! Starting with a most flavorful egg flower soup! So tired of others not bringing it with the flavor, this was yummy! I ordered the Shrimp Chow Fun (Chow-He Fen, I'm guessing is the right and proper name of the dish as listed in the menu) we often order this to see if a place is good and WOW! Shrimp was cooked perfectly the Wide rice noodles were perfection and although they receive their noodles on Tuesday they were not sticking together on Sunday! The sauce was so good and I'm guessing it was the best onion in Carson City that night as it was sweet and just right. Tasty! Ray ordered the Sweet and Sour Trio which in this day and age we did not have to ask for rice to accompany it, as most used to do, they just brought it (no extra fee I might add). Chicken, pork and nice big prawns battered and red with sauce, could have licked the plate. Not crowded, no wait at all, Our food was quick and hot. A table of two and then eight came while we dined and it was not noticeably noisy. The chairs may be a newly done upholstery, eggplant and gold, very attractive, comfortable. No booths. Just tables. Oh! And in summer you can eat outside in their patio or anytime you can do drive thru! A VERY happy experience and reasonably priced. First time at China East was an excellent experience! Had plenty to choose from on their lunch menu. I ended up getting the Generals chicken, served with fried rice & chow mein. It was Valentines Day between 430 and 5pm when I went to place a takeout order for dinner for my Valentine. The owner's wife came to the counter and gave me a look like I was bothering her that I was even there? And I placed my order and I asked for extra red sauce for our rice, and she said I gave you 1already I said I know but I would like to have another one I will pay for it. She started to argue with me and gave me a Dirty look. So, I got my order and left and when I got home there was not even 1Fortune Cookie in the bag???????????that was Very Disappointing! They are pretty darn good, they do have competition. But something about the consistency keeps their recipes in check and the quality there. I do appreciate a business that doesn't cut corners. The service kind of reminds me of what a New York Chinese restaurant would sound like - very blunt and no time to mess around. "WHAT YOU WANT?!" But I can respect that - no one likes to have their time wasted. We showed up a little bit before closing after calling in for pick up earlier. They asked if we wanted any soup to go along with what we already ordered, as they would just throw it out, we said "HELL YEA!" Been here multiple times. Came Wednesday and got dinner for our family 77 dollars plus another 13.00 for another meal for someone. We all ended up sick including my toddler who ate noodles and rice. Called to let them know the next morning since all we had was them the day before and was told nothing we can do. Really. For 100.00 you could do something. It seems like everything we eat from this place 1 or all end up sick that's why we stopped going for awhile then here we are again sick. I love this place- mu shu pork and chicken both tried on different days. Excellent! Why?? They take extra care of the vegetables! Singed vegetables are perfect on both. Over all the food is ok for American Chinese food. Prices are up but that's understandable with the economy. But the service sucks. Go through the drive-through and they are never nice. The owner lady sometimes takes your order and on one occasion I hesitated for a second remembering what my wife wanted and she snapped at me and said, "well hurry up, what do you want! " in a very rude tone. Then there is also a guy in the drive-up window and I always say hi and thank you. He also has never said thank you or hello. Another adventure to another Chinese restaurant here in Carson City. Again I struck out on beef stew here. I was talking with the waitress/ probably owner, she told me they have twiced cooked pork belly, I will definitely have to come and try. I tried the dinner special of curry beef. The dinner special included appetizers and soup. The soup choices were egg drop or hot & sour, that was a easy choice, hot & sour definitely, the soup was pretty darn good but the only thing lacking was white pepper to use. The appetizers were three items consisting of a deep fried shrimp, a deep fried spring roll and a white meat foil wrapped chicken, all of them not bad but not my cup of tea. On with the main meal of curry beef. This curry dish was not the saucy type but a stir fried version with not overcooked vegetables like other styles. It had for vegetables bell peppers and yellow onions and one snow pea. I'm not as keen on this method of curry, I prefer a longer cooking process method. I also abhor the use of red chilies and dried chili flakes. They irritate the stomach terribly and it bothers me I download. Yum! Always nice to find a really affordable place with good food! This place has lunch specials 7 days a week with lots of options. They come with a cup of either egg flower or hot & sour soup, fried rice (yum!), chow mein (eh, not a ton of flavor), entree of your choice, egg roll, and hot tea. Server wasn't super friendly but the price and the quality of the food made up for it. I'm not a fan of chicken thighs and was happy to see they used great quality chicken breast for the lemon chicken. Will definitely be back! It was $21.50 for two lunch specials and a soda. read more

We came here for Father's Day (hubby's pick) today. Let's just say don't judge a book by its cover. Our expectations were blown! First, it's obvious this is a family-run restaurant, which we love to support. The staff are all friendly and very attentive. And the food came out smoking fast! We ordered the garlic chicken, orange chicken, chow main, foil-wrapped chicken and plain fried chicken for the kids. Everything was super fresh and flavorful. Super happy we finally got to try this spot, definitely worth it. Very homey, the food was delicious and portions were greatly generous, plus the lovely service at the drive through window was the best. I'm mad at myself for not getting her name, but whoever worked the drive through window on June 9th 2023 is a doll, very sweet and personable. We were there for five mins (we had called ahead to order) and we definitely agree we found our new spot! I found this place searching on Yelp for "Chinese Buffet" so I was in the mood for a buffet, but they don't do that for dinner at least. I didn't see an obvious buffet area, so maybe not buffet for lunch either? Not sure. I was hungry and fine with ordering something, so I decided to stay sans-buffet. Always happy to check out a new place! A waitress greeted me politely and gave me a little guidance towards the tables I should select from. I knew I was on the leading edge of the dinner period (4PM) and as a single didn't want to hog a large table, so picked one of the few tables for two on the near-side of the dining room. As I was sitting down I noticed that even though the table had place settings and "ready for use" it was pretty apparent that the table itself was dirty. There was an obvious glob of something that the waitress casually took care of with a rag from her pocket... but once I sat down and saw the reflection on the top of the table in the room lighting, I could tell that table clearly hadn't been properly cleaned. I decided not to freak out and move to a different table (honestly, as long as the place mats and plates/bowls are clean... I'm cool... I've eaten under much worse conditions and survived). I ordered Hot & Sour soup and General Chicken... and I asked for extra garlic in the General Chicken as I usually do. Both of these dishes are designated as "spicy" in the menu, and that's exactly what I was looking for since I had a bit of a head cold and my sinuses were clogged - I always crave spicy food when my head is all stuffed up. The dishes came out and had good presentation and plating... but unfortunately, I felt things fell short in the flavor department. Even after accounting for my taste buds being a little out-of-whack due to the cold, the flavor and spice I was looking for just wasn't there. It's the first time I could think of that Hot & Sour soup didn't help clear my sinuses. I'll likely try this place again and if my experience is better, will be happy to update my review. Food was ok. I've been here many times. Usually I order to go because CUSTOMER SERVICE is terrifying! The owner, the female lady, she is very rude, pushy, very arrogant. I'm not one to speak poorly about people, she just hasn't change. She's worse now! Her Hispanic employees are rude just like her as well! I'm saying Hispanic cuz I'm Hispanic as well and you would think they would treat me right. Everyone should be treated with kindness, with respect. We ARE PAYING CUSTOMERS! I used to LOVE coming here... I would come in for lunch or pick up for dinner, they have great selection of food and the portions and price were worth it. However, seems like they have not cared about their quality for a little while. I have ordered food in the restaurant or through the drive thru and all experiences have been horrible; from seeing someone in the kitchen staff picking their nose and proceed to handle food, rubbing/wiping their sweat with their hand and proceeding to handle food or touching money and proceeding to handle food/drinks and finding hair in my food. I have taken a break and recently decided to give the another shot, which didn't pay off... Still witnessed the same behavior and yet again have found hair in my food. I have officially given up on China East and will not and do not recommend to anyone. read more

I've enjoyed this restaurant for over 10 years. Food tasted great, prices were fair, and service was excellent. The last two visits were ridiculous. My orders were changed from Ala Carte to lunch specials loaded with white rice and very small portions of the actual of the entree. I chucked it up to a one off, I did pay for Ala Carte, though, and was disappointed. The flavor of the meals were quite diminished. My last purchase I spent $111.00 on 7 Ala Carte orders and pot stickers. I received a full box of9 food which was much larger than my order, or so it seemed at the time. I was assured it was the correct order. There was no way to check the contents in the car. When I got home, I found 5 boxes of plain white rice. Two Ala Carte items were missing. A mystery dish of chicken and broccoli that was perhaps a substitute? The quality was extremely diminished, the mystery dish was refused by three adults, and my dogs refused to eat it, which is not a compliment. I don't know what happened here, but spending money to eat take out is usually a treat and relief from heating up the house in these summer afternoons. To have spent over $165.00 on two orders to receive significantly diminished quality food. (my dogs refused), completely BOTCHED orders on two separate visits is unacceptable. I never complained to the restaurant simply because I didn't want my missing entrees the quality of what I would have received wasn't worth the effort.
