Had some issues with a Sony EX1 that wasn't done completely to my satisfaction. Could have likely been resolved if I lived in the area and communicated better with Tek. Would use them again though. Probably an isolated incident. read more

It pains me to write this review but it's deserved. I own a well respected local camera company. We do many of our repairs in house but we often outsource more advanced repairs that are beyond the scope of our abilities. I first began taking equipment here in 2013. The one theme I noticed almost immediately is that initial estimate we would receive for repair would be absurd and then after we'd decline that repair they would then offer a cheaper option, stating that they could "fix" the broken part instead of replacing it. And it's not as if the first price was reasonable the second price was cheap. The first price was exorbitant and the second price was likely the going rate for this kind of work. And this happened every time. When it happens once you think they're doing you a favor. When it happens every time you think they're fishing for more money. Plus these were logic boards on small cameras. They either work or they don't. They can't be fixed; only replaced. The last straw for me was when we brought in an expensive on-set light that wasn't turning on. The light had a simple knob on the side of it. I had already shared some of my concerns with their business practices with Andy and as I came to pick up the light he brought it out and gave me some song and dance about how they had repaired it. I gave him my credit card and as he was running payment his tech walked out and joked about how there was nothing wrong with it in the first place, assuming that Andy had told me such. I asked what he meant and he told me the knob was just loose and he pushed it back in. A 30 second repair. Andy walks back with my receipt and I explain what his tech just told me and he just played dumb. I told him flat out, look I don't mind paying for your time even if the repair is simple but just don't lie to me. He insisted he hadn't and said he'd make it up to me in a future repair. I decided then there would be no future repair. These guys were not trustworthy. Fast forward four years. We had an expensive broadcast lens in need of repair. In our search for a local shop to fix it I discovered Tek Media was now heavily advertising in the area and wondered if perhaps the level of service had changed. So I called and spoke to David. I explained that I'd like to bring the lens in to have it looked at but that I had several bad experiences with Tek Media Group in the past and was reluctant to do so. David insisted that things were different now. He was apologetic and seemed genuinely eager to earn our business back. I brought the lens in because of David. I brought in a $22,000 Canon broadcast lens that was optically perfect and had an issue with binding slightly in the zoom range. The lens was brought in on 5/30 and David promised he'd stay on top of it. Sure enough, the next day I had an email from Tek Media with a quote for repair attached for $950. I told them to go ahead and perform the repair and David said it would be a week. A week goes by and I hadn't heard from them so I called David. He said he'd call back in 10 minutes with an update. He did not. I wasn't in dire need of the lens and waited another week before calling. Again he said he'd follow up and again he did not. On the 19th of June I called again, this time frustrated and firm. This time when promised a followup call I stated I didn't believe it would happen because it hadn't happened prior to this. He insisted he'd call me "right back" and again he did not. Instead I got an email minutes later. It was a new repair quote. The $950 repair was now a $3400 repair because their tech said he wouldn't be able to fix the part and needed to replace it. I called and told him this is exactly the kind of issue I had with them over the years that stopped us from bringing any more gear to them. He didn't have anything to say. I asked him to reassemble the lens and have it ready for pickup. He immediately confirmed this on the 19th, stating he'd reach out to me when he knew when they'd have the lens reassembled. He didn't. It took another call from me nearly a week later at which point he emailed again and said "Lens should be re-assembled and ready for pick up tomorrow." I went to pick this lens up a couple days ago and the first thing I noticed was that now the slight bind in the zoom range was now a nearly complete bind and the lens needed actual force to get through this part of the zoom range. What I didn't appreciate was the fact that the lens had finger prints and a lot of dust on the inside of it indicating no care was taken with the optics whatsoever. I asked David about this and he straight up lied to me and said the lens was never opened because I declined the repair. This despite emails from him explaining that it would be ready when they "re-assembled" it. Just don't go here. Andy, you should be ashamed of this. read more

Have owned a B&O Beosound 8 for many years. Sadly, the iPod dock failed and the aluminum beauty ring that protects the right speaker suffered a nasty dent. Hesitated to get service for a 7-year-old device. Would parts be available? Would the cost of repair exceed the value of the device? On the other hand the device was in excellent shape and repairs would make it like new. I discovered that B&O uses TEK for warranty repairs, so I contacted them directly via telephone and explained my problem to David. He was confident my repairs could be made for a reasonable fee and the estimation would be free of charge, save for the shipping. UPS'd it to TEK from the Bay Area on May 30; they received it on June 3. Dave called me with a detailed estimate. The fee was totally fair and appropriate for a sound system of this quality. On June 7, Dave called me to report my Beosound was fixed. The docking interface and beauty ring were replaced with new parts. It arrived at my door a few days later and was very well packed. Happy to report the Beosound worked flawlessly and it looks good as new. After about 15 hours of use over past several days: no issues, just clean sound. Great service across the board. Within a span of two weeks, this device went from useless to good as new for a fair price. Excellent and courteous communication, attention to detail, and a fast turn-around made it clear these guys take their business AND their customers seriously. Wish I had done this sooner! read more

I needed help with my bang and Olufsen stereo and speakers. Although the unit is older, it is extremely well-made and a terrific stereo. Instead of replacing it, I wanted to repair it. TEKmedia stepped up to the job. Robert was terrific, when he pickED the unit up he tested it first, then He took it off to the shop where the leprechauns could do their magic. Less than two weeks later, Robert delivered. My stereo was returned cleaned and looking like nearly new condition. Everything works perfectly, and I now have my fantastic stereo system back. Wow. I am so glad I found these folks. I know I should never have purchased an Epson product but I'm a glutton for punishment and sure enough the projector I bought malfunctioned just beyond the warranty like all of their products are designed to do. (One would think that a $3,500 projector would last longer than the lamp inside it, but I digress) Epson played me by pretending they had never heard of the problem before (a simple internet search exposed that lie) but they did recommend TEK Media Group and I suppose I can at least thank them for that. I assumed that the TEK staff would be knowledgeable and professional from the reviews I read but I was not expecting them to be as kind and compassionate as they were with regard to my situation. It's always comforting when you feel like you are dealing with a friend as opposed to a company concerned only with making money off of you. It felt like they were just as upset about the faulty projector as I was. They even discounted the labor costs! I thought I misheard the repair pickup date since it seemed like an impossibly quick turnaround time and it would have been finished as promised if Epson had sent a replacement part that was not already defective. The staff at TEK obviously take customer service very seriously and kept providing the appropriate progress updates. And thanks to them, the projector is back and works perfectly (for as long as Epson will allow, anyway) and I have already made plans to take several other electronic devices there that I have been putting off repairing in hopes of finding someone I can trust. Filled out form on website, but it did not create a ticket number. I called in and they send I can just send it to them. I received a call from the online form and I told him that I sent the lens in. He said we will have an estimate for you in 24hrs after we receive it. I sent it over night. 48 hrs after it was delivered I emailed asking where the quote was, no response. 72hrs I sent two emails asking about the lens (Common 70-200 Canon 2.8 lens). I finally get an email back. We are waiting for a price for a part. 4 days later they sent a quote but were still waiting for the price of the mounting ring. I told them to send the lens back to me. 8 days later they say they need me to pay to ship it back. Fine put it on my credit card. 10 days later. Why have you not shipped me lens back? They said, They need to reassemble the lens. 14 days later, they have not shipped my lens back. read more

I have an epson printer and recently had an issue of paper jam. I accidentally dropped a little piece of rubber into where the paper roll in of the printer and it causes the paper ham problem. So, I took my printer closest computer repair shop because I wasn't able to take it out, but since they mainly fix computers, they recommended me to take it to an epson authorized service center. Tek media was one of the two locations I got from the shop. When I went to Tek media, one guy helped me out to get my information. He explained that it is free estimation and they will contact me within a couple of business days. So far was okay. They responded on my E-mail pretty quick and everything seems okay. But when I got the estimation via e-mail, it was little more than I expected. Their estimation of fixing the paper jam problem was $95 and asked me whether I wanted them to proceed the repair. It didn't explained why it costs $95 though. It would be understandable if it says they need to order some new parts or it will take long to fix the problem. Anyway, I thought that $95 was too much for repairing old inkjet printer, otherwise it would be better just buy a new printer. So, I called couple more epson authorized service centers and here is what I got from other three places around the area. 1) $50 for the estimation which can be waived and $50 for the most of paper jam problems (they were like for sure unless it requires some parts or other problems). 2) $45 for the estimation which can be waived as well and usually the cost is around $60. 3) no estimation fee and around %75 of the case, it usually cost $35 and around %25, it usually cost $55. And I searched online the labor cost for repairing paper jam problem, which I found the average was around $50-60. Now if you were me, what would you do..? So, I decided to pick up my printer because I remember that they said they could throw away my printer for me if I decide not to repair the printer. When I went to pick up my printer without a notice, other guy was there to help me to pick up my printer and asked me to sign that I picked up my printer. I told him that I think the $95 for an old printer is too much and he seems he agree that $95 can be spent on a new printer. However, here is the funny thing. When I got home, I noticed that they took out the rubber piece that causes the problem and put it on my printer. They already fixed the problem, but they didn't notice me that they fixed it already. They must thought that I was gonna pay for $95 or something. Even when I went there to pick up my printer, if they were honestly explained that they could have fixed the problem easily (I thought that they have to take parts out or it must be a complicated problem), then I would have paid at least something. Overall, my experience here wasn't that satisfied. I give them 3 stars because I got my printer fixed for free of charge, otherwise I would give them 1 or 2 stars. I read couple good reviews about the price and service experienced here, but to me, I don't know whether it is just me or certain people, I wish they can start to charge the price fairly. read more

I had an awesome experience with Tek Media. I live in San Diego and they came and picked up my two pairs of Bang & Olufsen speakers AT NO CHARGE and fixed them and dropped them off to me. When I thought they weren't working again, they picked them up again ( it wasn't their fault, I had a bad cable, which the guy helped me diagnose over the phone). These guys bent over backwards to help me and I couldn't be happier, especially when they rebuilt my old Penta speakers, which I love. I wish I could agree with Jay, but I just can't. Epson's website recommends this place to repair printers so I took my R1800 in. At one point an envelope got sucked through and then my magenta cartridge just never lined up again. I took it in for them to have a look and mind you...I didn't have a car at the time so I had to rent one to take it out. Basically it boils down to having to have other parts replaced, I have to take more ink to them, so I have to rent a car again. Then I get a call that it's fixed and go back out after second even more inks to them via Amazon. They show me the print out and when I ask why the boxes aren't all lined up the tech tells me it's the ink. Well, I'd like to think I know a thing or two about printers, I mean..I've only been using them professionally for about 7 or 8 years now...and it wasn't the ink. The pattern that reprinted on the test sheet is the exact same which tells me it's the print head. At this point, replacing the print head would put repairs well over what the printer was worth. I was scared to pay for the repairs since I didn't feel it was fixed no matter how much the tech said it was so I asked them to sign the print out with the issues on it stating that it was being picked up and paid for under protest. They ended up just handing over the printer sans charge, so that was great, but after all the car rentals and ink purchases this whole experience was just intensely frustrating. Also, don't tell me it's ready and then have me sit in the waiting room for 15 minutes. Another thing too..even after I had ordered inks for them they had placed in off market inks which have a questionable archival timeline. So...OEM inks and off market...even if I was able to get the printer to work again I'd have to clean my system out or else I couldn't tell my clients they are getting archival prints. Total suck. You can see the pic of the print out "ink" problems in the photos section. Maybe these guys are great for other services, but don't lie to me and tell me it's an ink thing, I can clearly see that it's not. read more

I have to agree with A.T. They have horrible customer service. We just dropped off an Epson 4900 and we had to call back 3 times to find out the status. Each time we called they said someone would call us back and no one ever did. After 3 times we decided to show up and ask for our printer back. Call Epson and they do have techs that will come out and fix your printer one site. read more

On August 4, I dropped off my grandmother's laptop at this location for a free estimate (as suggested by the Toshiba company). I did not know what was wrong with it. A particular light just would not turn off. I warned the employee that I would be vacationing in Mexico from August 5-11. I told him that they should email me the estimate and that I would be checking my email account during my vacation. I received an email from Michael S. on August 7 just saying, "Toshiba p55-a5200 5d018953m is ready for pick up." I responded with the following on the same day: "Hello Michael, Can you tell us what the issue was and how much it will cost to get it repaired? As I mentioned when I dropped it off, I will be out of the country until the 11th of August. If you give me the above requested information, we can likely speed up the process if the prices are to my liking. Thank you" On August 10, Michael responded, "Notes from my tech RESETED . TESTED OK." My cousin and I called the company once I was back in the US on August 11 to confirm that it would be okay for him to pick up the laptop on August 12. They said it was okay and they explained again that the laptop did not have any issues to be repaired. My cousin picked up the laptop from the business on August 12. Like the information in the email, the employee who gave my cousin my grandmother's laptop said that all they did was open up the computer and close it and it was working. There were no issues-- hence, no charge. Today, at 8 a.m., a woman named "Jasmine" called me and harassed me about me supposedly owing her $129. I laughed and described everything that had happened. She threatened that if I don't pay, she will forward "my debt" to collections. I called back about 5 minutes later and asked to speak with the owner of the business. I was told he'd (Andy) would be in at noon. Jasmine called me back about 15 minutes ago (15 minutes before noon). She said proudly that she is the owner's wife and that she knows my kind-- that I like to get things done for free and not have to pay for them; that she does not know how I do it-- maybe I smile or wear a short skirt, and additional offensive remarks. Related to an Armenian saying, if someone looks through dirty eyes, everything will appear dirty. It is more than clear what kind of a person this Jasmine character is. Do not assume everyone is like you, dear. Some of us were raised to be civilized human beings and have amounted to more than just working for our husband's companies. I told her that I literally have email correspondence with her company explaining exactly what I am stating and she is still ignoring it and threatening to turn over "my debt" to collections if I do not accept her "discounted rate of $90" for the "repair." Running a business by threatening and scamming people is not right. They should not be allowed to continue this scam! I will be reporting their shady business practices! I will also be contacting Toshiba so they know who they are sending out their customers to. I agree with Reynald A.'s review-- these 5 star ratings are very suspicious! read more

I brought in an HVX200 to have the headphone jack repaired. They charged me $400. Almost two years and 90 operation hours later the headphone jack went out again. It's a known issue on HVX200s. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised that it went out, although I would have hoped they'd make some improvements when they did the repair. When I called back to see if they'd offer a discount to re fix it, they said no. Turns out they'd up sold me since that repair should only cost about $220 in the first place. I don't know why I payed $400. All I can say is, if you have a broken piece of gear, call around and get some other quotes because these folks are expensive, and they are not interested in creating repeat customers. Plain and simple: Andy the owner and his employees are the best. The story is more much complicated and longer than what is in this review, but this review captures the essence of what happened. My three week old Macbook Air's screen cracked. I took it to Tek Media, an Apple authorized repair center. Andy said AppleCare normally denies coverage for cracked screens, but he would try to help me. He contacted Apple to request authorization to repair the screen, but Andy was correct Apple denied coverage. He gave me the case number and after my considerable conversation with Apple, which included follow-up contact with Andy by Apple, Apple sort of agree to cover the repair cost. Apple told me it would supply the part at no charge to Tek Media. Apple said Tek Media agreed to absorb the labor charge so there would be no net cost to me whatsoever. Andy personally repaired the computer and as soon as the repairs were complete and the computer was tested he called to say it was ready for pick-up. This was within hours after he received the part in the Fed Ex delivery. Andy's staff too was wonderful. I called them several times to find out whether the part arrived from Fed Ex (the delivery turned out to be very late). The staff promptly answered the phone, they were always very polite and provided me with the information. read more

Sent my lens out to be repaired in October. They gave me a quote of 3 times the going rate. Asked for them to return it. It took them 5 months to return it. Excuses included that the tech had the flu. For 5 months ??? $70 round trip out of pocket and my lens came back with a 3/4" long scratch smack in the middle of the lens ! Unbelievable. Site says free return postage. They clarified later only with orders fulfilled. They could have at least offered to return it to me for free after all this. unprofessional hassle. Not even a sorry. Recently, I had to get my PERSONAL Canon printer repaired. They were fast, friendly, and very reasonable on cost (it was out of warranty). My 30+ year old BeoCenter has damaged by lightning and parts are extremely rare. I don't live anywhere the shop, and shipping costs would run several hundred dollars. Tek Media was able to provide me with GREAT information on the reparability and an estimate for repairs so that I could make an educated decision on whether to have the BeoCenter repaired. The best experience!! I took my Toshiba notebook in for a faulty fan and installation of recovery media/operating system. I got my diagnosis the same day and it was ready for pick up the next morning! As if that wasn't amazing enough, I was charged an incredibly fair and low service fee. Dianne, Harout, and Andy totally made my day when I brought in a broken camcorder. My uncle passed away a few years ago and I found an old box buried in our garage with his camcorder packed neatly away. I discovered a tape was still in the camera but after I ejected the tape the cassette carriage would not reseat back into the camera. I called Tek and they said they would take a look if I brought it down. I took this 20 year old camera to Tek and within 15 minutes they fixed it. I was totally blow away by their level of professionalism, knowledge, and their willingness to help me. I have never experienced customer service like that before in LA. This company sucks. I recently got my Bang & Olufsen turntable back, after they had it since November of last year. Originally, they told me they could fix it. When I got it back the first time, it didn't work correctly. They took it back to attempt to fix it again. I just recently got it back and it had the same problem-platter turned and that was it. The switch was never properly fixed. They charged me $25 for shipping, which was actually a one time delivery a few miles off the freeway by their driver, who makes the trip weekly to San Diego anyway. I met the driver just off the I-5 freeway, so he didn't even go out of his way. In addition, their communication was terrible. read more
