Teller's Bar is the bar and restaurant located inside the lobby of the Drury Plaza Riverwalk hotel and is available for dine-in or carry out. During my recent stay at the historic hotel, my boyfriend and I decided to give Teller's a try simply for the convenience of its location. We opted to do carry-out and wanted to enjoy a cocktail while we waited for the food to be prepared but were disappointed when we were informed that they were not serving or selling alcohol right now. I assume this is due to COVID-19, however, this did not stop the hotel from offering its nightly complimentary happy hour on the second floor where guests can enjoy 3 free cocktails. Alcohol notwithstanding, Teller's Bar offers a limited menu of sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and desserts and we went with a pepporini & sausage pizza, the loaded tots appetizer, and the hamburger (which is in actuality a cheeseburger.) When the gentleman who took our order said it would be ready in 10 minutes we should have taken that as a red flag but we did not. I've enjoyed some exceptional hotel food before but alas, Teller's Bar did not cut the bill. The food was extremely subpar and gave me flashbacks to eating cafeteria food when I was in elementary school (although even school cafeteria pizza is better than the pizza served up at Teller's). The loaded tater tots were lukewarm and soggy and a congealed clump of cheese. The pizza had barely any sauce on it and tasted like cardboard and the hamburger was just fine. Of everything, it was the most edible dish. Most of the food was left uneaten and for our other meals while we stayed at the Drury we went elsewhere. If you're staying at the Drury and don't feel like venturing outside for food, PLEASE do yourself a favor and have something delivered to the lobby instead. If you're going to pay good money for food, make it worth it.

While the hotel serves generous hors d'oeuvres during early evening hours, this bar on the first floor sponsors a dessert happy hour to cap it all off. Every dessert they offer is marvelous!

Staycation down town for my birthday. We decided to eat and drink the last of the day at the hotel. The pecan old fashion was amazing! The pizza was surprisingly great. We also had the pretzel and chips and queso. I ordered the Buffalo chicken salad with ranch. It was also really good.

For a starter we shared the cornbread with another couple and it was plenty for 4 people. If you are from out of town and looking for some Texas-shaped vittles or just want something substantial to stretch your meal I recommend it! Very tasty and filling. For my main I had the scallops with creamed corn risotto. It was a dainty portion but the flavors were nice. My husband had the short rib tagliatelle which he loved. It was very rich and filling. We had the buttermilk pie again for dessert and this time it tasted sweeter than I remembered. It was good but we couldn't finish it. Idk if it was my tastebuds or if it was different. Anyways still a great meal overall and we will be back!

They were cooked medium rare. I don't recommend the lamb. I had the red snapper filet. I was basically. The best thing about the entire meal was dessert! We shared a large slice of butter pie and ice cream. Other than that, the food was average to, not good I made the mistake of going to this tourist spot, inside of the la mansion hotel, $168 later, I can truly say that I would never recommend this restaurant!

Update to first review below, rating updated from a 3 to a 5 star (drinks & bartender would get 10+…read morestars if we could rate that high): Saturday night: Went back for after dinner drinks at the Downstairs (a "speakeasy" throwback, look up the history of the place to see why). Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

This isn't flashy it's honest, bold, and unapologetically Texan. The food lands like a punch: brisket smoked to perfection, chili‑glazed short ribs that demand attention, and Gulf red snapper with chorizo crust that makes your mouth sit up. Sides and sauces? No filler, just full‑flavored allies. The drinks are sharp, strong, and right. Mezcal Old Fashioneds, tequila‑bright margaritas, and cocktails that feel like they've seen the world but still know how to have fun. Service doesn't hover it knows the rhythm. The River Walk hums outside, music drifts in, and every bite and sip feels like it belongs to this place. Five stars. Bold, beautiful, and unmistakably Texas.

We entered the large open space which can be accessed from the hotel's main entrance or off of the river wall entrance. Service was good, but we were disappointed of having to choose from one menu rather than the other menus we saw online. Sadly, not sure I would try again based on this food experience.

Waiter said it was fine and that I could pull them off.... Nice. I did and revealed quite a bit of ice-burg lettuce just getting a little brown.....maybe a free specs of bacon that costs extra.....they really push it also. I won't eat here again. Besides the place needing a really good cleaning..... everything. You'd probably be amazed how must dust you are eating when the air conditioning system starts blowing. Look at the picture frames and electrical outlets with power cords, blow up the picture and see. They don't bother cleaning the table sides or menu holders......YUCK So I tried with the on duty Manager in the ASH gray tshirt who I thought at first was the Dishwasher. He was Ok the first conversation, we told him we just wanted the table to be cleaned. They complied, took them twice though. The second conversation he listened but I could tell he couldn't care less, so I looked for reasons to not to call the Health Inspector and asked him for some??? He told me to call the Managing Partner and kinda laughed then walked off. I saw this place must be owned or Managed-by Texas Roadhouse...... what a shame, this place could be great !! It is NOT. Additional note: Restrooms were filthy and unattended, used paper all over and unattended trash overflowing. I just think this is a sign of poor Management at this location. Maybe some re-training is in order ?? The single bartender was also overwhelmed. Plenty of waitstaff checking phones, group talking where they could have been helping out other areas that needed attention. This is the Culebra and Loop 410 Location. I never had a problem at 1604 and Culebra/Shaenfield Rd. Location....... I just wanted to be clear.

My son had pancakes and bacon and inhaled them. His mother always gets the pot roast. She wasn't disappointed. I will say although the gumbo is decent, it's not the best I've had. The roux is very dark which gives it a slight burned taste. But the flavors are there. All in all love Cappy's. I won't make the mistake of staying away so long again.

Unfortunately, the experience changed once we were seated. Our waiter was incredibly short and came across as rude throughout the meal. When we asked for recommendations or some of his favorite menu items, his response was essentially, "I don't know what you like," rather than offering any guidance. The service somehow felt rushed even though the food itself came out slowly, and there were very few check-ins during the meal. When it came time for dessert, we asked to see a dessert menu and were simply told, "It's on the menu you have," which summed up the lack of hospitality we experienced at the table. I ordered the Mustang Chicken, and unfortunately it was very disappointing. The chicken was fatty, full of tendon, and tasted more like a frozen piece of chicken that had been dropped into a deep fryer than something I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. It's disappointing because the restaurant has a great atmosphere and our experience at the bar started off so well. Unfortunately, between the table service and the quality of the food, I would not recommend Cappy's based on this visit.
