It's crazy to me I haven't reviewed Cappy's before. Admittedly it's been a couple years since I had gone since I'm always looking for something new, but as I sat and ate today I was kicking myself. Cappy's is so delicious. I used to go very often. They're a little on the pricier side but so worth it. It's beautiful inside and outside. Staff very friendly and accommodating. I won't wait so long again to go back. My go to meal the is Howard. Scrambled eggs with crab topped with a lobster tail. So so good. Even the little bread/muffin basket they serve you before the meal is great. Lemonade is delicious. My son had pancakes and bacon and inhaled them. His mother always gets the pot roast. She wasn't disappointed. I will say although the gumbo is decent, it's not the best I've had. The roux is very dark which gives it a slight burned taste. But the flavors are there. All in all love Cappy's. I won't make the mistake of staying away so long again. read more

I made reservations to visit on a Saturday night and that turned out to be a very good idea. The wait was still 15 minutes with the reservation. My husband and I both agree it was still a good experience. The ambiance here is off the charts. We sat upstairs and got excellent customer service and a nice view of part of downstairs. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. I tried the halibut and it was small but tasty. The macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes were also good. My husband really liked his pork chop. Parking can be a little bit of a problem but we found a space without having to look around for too long. When my budget allows, we will return since the prices are kind of on the high side. read more

Delicious food and great location. Service has been outstanding every time I have gone. It's a comforting place that has a very bistro feel. Comfortable, quiet and understated. I did feel prices were on the higher end for some items. This last time I had the chicken salad plate, which has a portion of chicken salad, grapes, a bit of broccoli and a sort of mango mousse. It was $18, which seemed a bit high for the portion, but the food was tasty and enjoyable. Good place for lunch, if you need a sedate spot without too much drama and good food. read more

We visited Cappy's for the first time today and it was a great experience. The staff was welcoming and very attentive. Our server Ian is a true professional. The restaurant itself is open, not noisy but no so quiet that you're afraid to have a conversation, and surrounded by beautiful oak trees. We were seated upstairs and it felt like we were dining in a treehouse. The food was served hot and everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. We were there for brunch and I tried the "Homard" which was composed of truffled eggs scrambled with lump crab meat topped with a butter poached lobster tail. It was delicious and rich. I'm also a little upset about it....because for the first time - ever - in my yelp history - I had this thought: I WISH I COULD GIVE MORE THAN FIVE STARS. This place was fantastic! Had I known...this place would be on my *big star* recommendation list. From the moment we walked in, service and attention were amazing. We commented to our waitress and another individual it was our first time there and they sure took care of us! Neither my wife nor I could decide what to order. We each gave our waitress - Ansley (who I cannot say enough about - what a gem!) the old - would rather have X or y? Ansley directed me to the Maverick chicken and my wife toward ...some fish dish (can't remember). We were both so impressed. It's probably some of the best food I've had in a long while. Then, as we were leaving, management threw in a free dessert, the one they felt their most popular. Y'all. Dead serious. It's been A LONG TIME since I've felt this well taken care of at a restaurant. On this particular visit, we came for lunch and had the lunch steak, which is consistently flavorful and perfectly cooked. I always swap out the fries for the Caesar salad, and it's honestly one of the best I've had, super fresh and packed with flavor. We decided to try the mussels in coconut sauce as an appetizer, and WOW.. chef's kiss! The broth was so good I could've eaten it as a soup. Finally got a chance to try this restaurant tucked away off of Broadway in the Alamo Heights area. I've been to its sister Cappycino's which is very good so I'm glad I had brunch here today. Cappy's is behind the storefronts (including Cappycino's) facing Broadway. There is ample parking off of Mary Ave. The food was very good, starting with the variety of biscuits/muffins that come with your meal during breakfast or brunch. I had the Ham & Cheese Omelette which was cooked perfectly: fluffy and full of cheese and ham. It also came with some fruit which can never go wrong and some country styled potatoes. Now, I was slightly disappointed since the menu said it was hash browns, which they are clearly not. However, they were very good. If you go for Brunch, they have several lunch item options as well. The staff was attentive and very nice. I would recommend a reservation so you can avoid waiting. read more

Love, love, love Cappys and all the Lawton Family Restaurants I have been to. I have been wanting to visit Cappys for some time, but was hesitant to as I am with all restaurants these days, afraid that I'll show up and be that annoying guest with a food allergy. I wouldn't expect it to be the case at a place like this, but this is truly one of my biggest fears. Anywayssss, I was happily able to order the steak frites off the brunch menu (without cheese or butter, both of which I'm sure would have made this meal taste and look even better to the average person) and it was delicious! The steak was absolutely perfectly cooked with just the right amount of seasoning. The french fries were cut thin and crispy. It was a beautiful 83 degrees outside, mid-day so I ordered the Colombian mojito. It was cool and refreshing. They have indoor and outdoor seating, with plenty of fans, covered umbrella seating and a nice breeze if you opt for outdoors. The service was quick and my entire experience was a 10/10. They usually provide an assortment of breads with butter, but I obviously didn't go for that. They have quite the assortment of options from what I saw online and from my brunch menu. There was also a sauce on top of the chicken filet. Family members ordered a ribeye which also came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The rib eye was so juicy and tender. The vegetables were so delicious and flavorful. My chicken was so delicious. It was breaded, juicy, and savory, pairing well with the mashed potatoes. There was so much food that I had a meal for the next day. I highly recommend the Mustang Chicken. Service: The waitress was friendly and on top of the service. She made sure our drinks were never empty and checked on is several times. Cappy's is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio. They call themselves "casual fine dining", which is a great way to describe the experience. The ambiance and decor are casual and relaxed, but the service and food are stand-out. I have never had a dish or drink from here that I didn't love. Everything is high quality, and although the dishes are simple they are all executed well. Must-try dishes are the halibut and mustang chicken. Cappy's is a classic! They have both indoor and outdoor dining which I love. We decided to dine outside, but the mosquitos were biting us. The staff noticed and left to go buy us bug spray. We thought that was really above and beyond, thoughtful service! The food is always good here. I love their salads and recently tried their crab cake which was also delicious. Came here on a weekday with a colleague. I really liked their lunch menu. We got the blue crab cake for an appetizer and I got a half-caf cappuccino to start my meal. Cappuccino was so-so. The crab cake came with a green chutney which my colleague really liked. For entrees, I got the mustang chicken and she got the ban ha mi sandwich. I liked what I got, the chicken came with steamed veggies and mashed potatoes. For dessert, I ordered the sticky toffee pudding. Ambiance was wonderful. Server had little personality and never did give us his name. Fish was bland and mashed potato's has no seasoning cold nor flavor. The other dish was a salad which was very good and the Brussels sprouts with kimchi dressing was out of this world. After reading a few of the reviews on yelp, I was really hoping that they lived up to the hype. I must say Cappy's did not disappoint. The hostess was able to accommodate us even though we didn't have a reservation. I had no idea they took reservations, oops. We had quite an appetite after taking a walk in the Tea Garden earlier that day. We had a bottle of champagne and fresh squeezed OJ & one of the daily specials, seafood Po boy. Excellent food. And our server Libby was very sweet and attentive. Since it was our first time we were blessed with a nice surprise. All in all. The atmosphere was very nice. Feeling like we were outside even tho we were seated inside the dining area with the sliding glass doors for windows getting a view all of the beautiful foliage inside and out. The only opportunity I can point out was that when my wife went upstairs to the restroom while I waited for the table. I was already seated when she came back downstairs. She stood around looking for me and even though the hostess saw her looking around for me she didn't help point her towards our table. It's hard to believe I've lived here all my life and have never been! I had the Redfish Pontchartrain, and it was a pleasant surprise. The subtle, sweet cinnamon flavor was unexpected but really nice, and they're generous with the lump crab on top, which is a big plus. For dessert, don't miss the Sticky Toffee Pudding. My first time trying this spot for a coworker's 60th birthday. We didn't have reservations (didn't know we needed them) but they were able to seat us anyway. We were a party of 5 and our waitress was a-mazing and I hate I forgot to get her name. The ambiance was nice and laid back and provided the vibe we were looking for. Her main request was that she wanted a good Bloody Mary. I found the reviews on Yelp were helpful and we were trying to avoid downtown so and I'm glad we took a chance. The food was amazing. I had the salmon and spinach. Most of the table ordered the shrimp. The drinks were solid I was told (I don't drink). This place used to be one of my favorites! I fell in love with its food and ambience, and even in August 2020, they adapted to the COVID era beautifully. However, when I tried dining there afterwards, I made a reservation for 8:30 pm, only to arrive and find them closed. A member of their staff told us they were closed for the day and that their system had made a mistake with our reservation. Given the great service and attention previously provided, this particular experience felt very poor. Still, I recommend trying this place--just be sure to call ahead to double-check that your reservation will be honored. read more

I've only been to Cappy's twice. First time and last time I went was about 18 years ago and I ordered the Heights burger but I didn't remember how it was. So I decided to dine here on New Year's Eve. I was looking through the food pics here on Yelp and they didn't have many items that looked good except the pot roast and I had wanted to get that. By the time I got there I had wanted to be seated inside but everything was either taken or reserved so I had to dine outside and asked the host if the tables had heaters and they did. Sitting outside wasn't all that bad since I got a good view of the Christmas lights. A waitress came to my table and handed me the menu. Pot roast wasn't available and the menu seemed like a limited or a special one being that it's New Year's Eve and I had half a mind to leave but then I found an item that I liked which was pork chops so I had ordered that. The waitress gave me some complimentary bread and that was good. Minutes later my pork chops had arrived and I liked them. For dessert, I had my heart set on the sticky toffee pudding and I was pleased with it. It was a bit cold outside but the heater was enough to keep me warm. My friends and I came for brunch and the service was wonderful- they were attentive but didn't rush us when we wanted to leisurely drink our cocktails and chat before ordering our meals. Love love LOVE the decor!! The food was fresh and delicious with amazing flavors. The cauliflower and cheese soup was excellent. Combined with the paté, and the perfectly prepared toasts - I was almost completely satisfied. I forged on with the black bean burger, side of kale salad and accompanied with the chipotle aioli. I have not been this pleased with a new restaurant in YEARS! But what cherry on top of this experience was the wait staff: from the hostess, to our server (Mark Anthony, we LOVED you!!) to the manager who chickening with us afterwards!! St. Patty's Day lunch plans didn't pan out as expected but we made the most out of it by visiting @cappysrestaurant. The rain was starting to come down and the wait for sitting indoors was about an hour. Kyle, the manager, had us sit in the Cappycino's area instead. I appreciated him accommodating us. Alicia was our server. Dad had the Cranberry Lemonade, Hubby had a Mexican Mule, and I had the Brandy Punch. Dad and I shared the Ham & Cheese Omelet and Dad finished his portion. Glad he enjoyed! Hubby had the Homard, which was truffled scrambled eggs, lump crab, butter-poached cold water lobster tail. He shared a piece of the lobster and crab and soo good! Really reasonable for $29! Two individuals I know are very well acquainted with Cappy's and seem to frequent the place, so a girl's dinner here was probably inevitable. Fast forward to the said girls' night and we were seated upstairs around 6:30 PM on a Saturday evening. The menu was decent and all the menu items looked delicious. Between the four of us ladies we ordered appetizers, salads, and our separate entrees. The main reason I'm not wowed by Cappy's and won't return was because, for a party of four chatty women, we received the most lackluster service. We barely were given attention to order wine or drinks, let alone the appetizers and salad, and it seemed like our server was only interested in getting us our entrees and then not coming back until it was time for the check. Which.... Is basically what happened. Even getting a refill on water was a hard ask. Now, we were a group of chatty women, you will say, and that might fly for some but having been a server myself, that just shows how lacking in true "serving" skills our server was. It doesn't take much to recognize low water, nearing empty wine or cocktail glasses, and the nearing empty plates which signal the next course. So while I understand the minimized questions with a group at dinner, I also recognize that good service is lacking when you're literally ignored. This ultimately is why I won't return to Cappy's. Our small group was seated upstairs, and since I'm not a regular, I don't know if that had any significance but I will say that I was very annoyed at the few groups around us that had kids. It was hard to hear ourselves speak (which is literally the reason we ladies went out WITHOUT our kids) and, again, I had to wonder if our location impacted the quality of the service. I will say, since all of us women have kids ourselves, the fact that these families had their kids out last 10 PM eating was kind of crazy to me. Could we have requested another location? I guess if I went again, I would prefer downstairs with a bit more intimacy. After all, we ladies had the purpose of catching up and hearing ourselves speak for once in our lives. Lastly, the food: it was okay, but I won't say it was five stars. My steak was undercooked and I eventually just stopped eating it because the texture was bugging me. But if you've ever worked in the restaurant biz, you know that sending something back means you'll be without food for a while and that just didn't seem worth it to me. Everyone else seemed decently pleased with their food but no one gave it a great thumbs up. I will say though, the dessert was FABULOUS. I believe we got the sticky toffee pudding and it was the highlight of the night. So, of all the issues we had, it could have made up for them. Will I be back? No. Was this probably just a bad experience? Hopefully, yes. It wouldn't take much to have the service elevated. And if my experience and love of good food counts for anything, good service can often make up for less than diamond star level food. So... still give it a try, just, uh, maybe raise your hand with a little more emphasis and demand better service. Cheers! read more

Ate there for a special dinner with my wife and Cappy's never disappoints!! Although crowded, service was efficient and friendly - Rhys did a great job! I had the paella and my wife had the rack of lamb. Her only comment was the choice of sides - the roasted veggies and the chorizo were tasty but she would have preferred a side with more moisture to compliment the lamb. She did say she would order it again. My paella was very good! We did the Oysters Rockefeller as an app and they were amazing. Exceptional dinner at Cappy's Restaurant last night. From beginning to end, our server Marc Anthony was excellent, very knowledgeable, & attentive. The food was prepared well. Great presentation, very fresh & packed with flavor. I had the potato-crusted halibut with citrus beurre blanc and julienned vegetables, OMG it was soo delicious !! Went there specifically for this dish as they had shared it on their story and I was mesmerized by their post. Had to taste it and it did not disappoint.
