As someone who used to come here once a month or more, and much less frequently for the past half year, this time will absolutely be my last. For a while either the food or the service has been subpar. For the last few visits, both have been unacceptable. Came in today late afternoon, at a time when there were plenty of servers but before the supper crowd. Waiter only came by to seat me, take my order, and give me the receipt. There was no check-in between. Having ordered Parmesan and spicy wings (which were shaped more like fast food nuggets, oily, and over cooked), I waited the better part of 10 minutes to request a refill. By the time she came back with my water I was over it and requested the receipt and a to-go box for the wings I had left. While out and about with my work colleagues, a random late afternoon lunch was needed, so we all landed here for lunch. Our boss raves about this place. Including our group, there was one other small group here, not very busy. Was hoping this meant good service was in our future. The waitress handed us menus then took our drink orders, so we perused the menu. A lot of good looking dishes in on the menu. All chicken dishes of course. My eyes drifted all over the menu before locking onto the waffle portion of the menu. I love the sweet and savory dishes, so I set my heart on that. The waitress came back and handed us our drinks. Shortly thereafter she informed us the waffle maker was broken, so to disregard that whole section of the menu. I felt as if someone had yanked my chair out from under me. The rest of my group was ready to order, so I was left to scramble to find something else. This would have been a great piece of information to know from the get go. Flustered, I just ordered the appetizer nachos, minus the pico. Silver lining was the nachos were half price because of happy hour. After what seemed like an eternity, folks at the table started to receive their food. Everything ordered at the table looked delicious. Only problem was that out of our group of 7, our orders were received piecemeal. With the gaps being big enough for entire meals to be consumed. This really confused me, as they were not busy at all. I was one of the last folks to eat, while my colleagues all waited on me to finish. My drink also stayed low most of the time too. The nachos were delicious. The chicken was crispy, the queso and bbq sauce complemented each other well, and the chips were crunchy. Nachos were well distributed, without mouthfuls if queso and soggy chips. No complaints at all for the nachos. Everyone else loved their meals. Time for the check. I looked over the check, and the sneaky little devils snuck in a mandatory gratuity surcharge. Had the service been better, maybe I could have been okay with this. But based on the waffle maker being broken, the long wait for food, and not getting our food at the same time, I found this to be insulting. Not to mention waiters and waitresses screw themselves by doing this, because I always tip 20 percent or higher. So, instead of a $5 or $6 tip, the waitress received $1.67 instead. Will I return? Maybe. But I can say without doubt that I will never go out of my way to go here. The food was delicious, but the service and armed robbery for the tip killed the vibe for me. Once we arrived parking was good since in a shopping center and the business had a bar like vibe. We were quickly seated and I ordered a beer and asked what appetizers she recommended. She stated the loaded fries were good, so we ordered the fries for an appetizer. Once the drinks came we decided to get the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Good Morning America. Once the loaded fries came out, it looked like something from a high school stand. And it had cheese from a can and the taste was not too pleasant. A few of us popped in here for lunch this past weekend. First impressions: The place was clean, there's a bar with open seating, there's high top tables and a couple of half booth half regular tables to sit as well. We were greeted right away and sat within seconds. Scanning the menu, we all kind of thought our options were pretty limited. It felt like a small menu. My friend asked what some of their dripping sauces were (the sauce names didn't really tell us what kind of sauce they were for example "comeback sauce", "gold rush" and "ole smokey"). The waitress seemed like she was trying really hard to explain what they were but it came off as guessing rather than just admitting she didn't know and should have gone to ask to confirm. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer. We all ordered different things as our entree. Tenders with chill bill sauce and a side of regular fries (came unsalted), tenders with lemon pepper rub and a side of their seasoned fries (also tasted unsalted according to my friend even with the seasoning), and the fried chicken sandwich which was Nashville hot, came with some dressings and coleslaw w/ a side of mac and cheese. Our meals felt like it took a long time to come out and we weren't sure why as the place was not busy at all and the few people inside were already closing out. First glance, everyone's meals "looked" great! But unfortunately we all thought our meal was very very basic, nothing special at all. The fried chicken sandwich was messy and the breading was falling off the chicken, it was like a constant puzzle putting it back together to get another bite in. The only good thing we had to say was that the food came out hot (temperature). The sides of ranch also had the same seasoning sprinkled on top as one of the fries came with. It would have been nice to know that before hand. Sometimes people just want a regular ranch, no fancy toppings needed. Neither of us finished our meal, we got to go boxes. It took a while to get the waitresses attention so we can close out. When we finally did my friend asked for a to-go drink as well... it never came. We didn't bother to ask again and decided to just leave after paying. Not even an hour later, both of my friends said they did not feel good. One even admitted that she threw up her meal. As we discussed what we all ate, the common denominator was the fried pickles between my two friends. I was the only one that did not try them. Overall we don't see us coming back anytime soon, maybe not at all. Do what you will with this review, there are a lot of reviews from folks that really liked the place. FAST FACTS: * Parking - located in a shopping center with plenty of parking but also walking distance from the Aloft hotel nearby * Reservations - not that I could find * Online ordering - available on their website * 3.5% fee added on to all non-cash payments SERVICE - Kay was great! She was very personable and checked on us multiple times to make sure we had what we needed. Our food came out quickly after ordering. PRICING - The total was $52.18 after tax ($3.84) and the 3.5% non-cash fee ($1.76) but before tip for an iced tea ($2.50), big bird with sweet potato fries ($15 + $2.50), 6 piece chicken tenders ($14), fries ($4), two sauces ($0.79 each), and chocolate cake ($7). The pricing seemed reasonable for the portion sizes and quality of food you get! BIG BIRD (8/10) - For a turkey burger, this was fantastic! You get two good size patties, each with cheese, and the actual turkey was moist and flavorful. The bun was fluffy and toasted and the toppings of lettuce, tomato, and onion were all super crispy and fresh! The comeback sauce on it was delicious... it's a pretty basic burger sauce but adds a nice zing along with the pickles. I would order this again! SWEET POTATO FRIES (9/10) - Phenomenal! I would order these again! CHICKEN TENDERS (7/10) - These were a great size and were fried perfectly. The chicken was moist and tender inside but the outside was crispy. The Tabasco Honey flavor had a great balance of sweetness with a slight heat. The Easy Tiger flavor was a little underwhelming and didn't have quite as much "sauce"... it's more citrusy and less sweet than a typical Chinese orange chicken. I would order these again, but not the Easy Tiger flavor. FRIES (6/10) - They were basic fries... nothing to write home about. I'd definitely recommend getting the sweet potato fries instead! CHOCOLATE CAKE (8/10) - I took this to-go back to my hotel room and they packed it up nicely. It comes with vanilla ice cream and had a great chocolate flavor. It isn't massive and is a nice sweet ending to the meal if you like chocolate! I would order this again! I stay at the Aloft nearby frequently and would come back here for a lunch or late dinner... it has a great laid back atmosphere with good food and service. Get an order of fried pickle spears to share as well. Not a huge beer selection, but a good variety of different types for everyone's tastes. The service was nice and friendly. The wait staff was helpful but more consumed with two patrons drinking at the bar. They appeared to be regulars and were heavily involved in conversation with the wait-staff. We ordered two fried chicken sandwiches that included cajun and sweet potato fries. On sandwich was the Bun Mi fried chicken on a brioche bun, pickled slaw, jalapeno, cilantro, sriracha aioli and soy glaze. The Fried chicken sandwich on texas toast, sriracha slaw, pickle and garlic aioli was also ordered. The chicken was hot and nicely presented with a good helping of hot fries. The chicken pieces were generous inp size but really lacked flavor. I felt like they tried to make sandwiches sound good but varied only with different toppings. There was nothing Bun Mi in the flavor. The same could be said on the fried chicken sandwich except a soy dressing. Overall, Golf Feather was disappointing and lacked any flavors.
