Took the scenic route from Pigeon Forge to Chattanooga. Got hungry and started looking for something local. This place has a 4.1 rating but it should be higher. Clean dining room and restrooms. Super friendly staff. Food was great! I had the stuffed trout and it was really good. My husband had the fried chicken and it was also really good. Sides were also good. Stopped by again but, this time, it was sadly not as good. The trout cakes had more onions than trout and the BBQ brisket was tough, thin sliced roast beef with BBQ sauce. I really would avoid the "brisket". They have added a cocktail menu and the service was efficient but the food had declined. Perhaps an off-day or a new cook. Went here with my family for dinner and musical bingo while visiting them in Tellico Plains. While the employees were very nice and attentive I had an unfortunate experience. I'll start off by saying the chicken Parmesan I ordered seemed to be made with tomato paste, not sauce. It was thick, dark and bitter... can't say I enjoyed this. But the real kicker of my visit was while I got to the end of my water I sucked up a human fingernail through my straw. After noticing what I pulled out of my mouth in disgust I had to run out the door to the parking lot to throw up. This is by far the most shocking thing I have ever found while dining out. I am really struggling to figure out how this place has such rave reviews. My friends and I stopped in on our way east during a road trip, and we'd decided on Tellicafe after looking at the options in town. Our alternatives were the standard fast food options, and Tellicafe seemed to have great reviews so we decided to spend the time and get a proper meal inside the restaurant. Our experience was dampened by the fact that service was slow to begin with. It took a great deal of time to get our drinks... but that wasn't the biggest issue with our beverages. One of my friends ordered an unsweetened iced tea... after some momentary confusion from the server (which we chalked up to a verbal misunderstanding), but the drink my friend recieved was "literally watered down Raspberry Lipton". To quote him directly, "if all you have is Raspberry Lipton, feel free to just serve me that... don't pretend it's unsweetened tea." The taste of the food sealed the deal on the notion that we should have skipped the restaurant and headed for a fast food drive through. My pulled pork tasted like it had just done a 10 hour marinade in a bag of C&H Cane Sugar. In addition, the greens were bland and didn't provide a notable contribution to the meal. The only redeeming quality of Tellicafe is that the staff is very kind and friendly to customers. Both the Server and the Manager were very nice and polite to us, making us feel welcome in their space. If only the food quality and service time matched that experience. read more

I went to Tellico Cafe today for the first time. I had the turkey reuben with fries. It was AMAZING! Perfect balance of toasted bread, swiss cheese, sliced turkey and sauerkraut. My family and I have been going to TelliCafe for over 20 years even though we live 30 minutes away. It remains one of our favorite restaurants and the go to place for special occasions. It's one of those restaurants where you can tell it is run by a true chef. There are lots of special touches like the delicious homemade ranch dressing, the black currant tea and the sweet potato fries. We weren't planning to eat at the Tellicafe, but things just worked out that way. We were in Tellico for our anniversary and we had our 6 month old with us. She had just fallen asleep and the folks there were kind enough to sit us in a quiet area so she could finish out her nap. We got the raspberry currant sweet tea, chicken fried steak, and chicken and dumplings. We were happy with everything and they have a large menu with several other items that also sounded good. I am a restaurant critic and honestly, I don't know that I've ever had better fresh fried trout. The vegetables were truly fresh. The french fries were over the top crispy :-) your typical baked french fries. All of the staff seem to be happy to be working. Service was phenomenal my first trip here and trust me. Probably second or third time here when on motorcycle trips with a group. What I like most is they are always friendly and appreciate our business. It is a typical family restaurant with a lot of tables and booths. Nothing fancy but all is good. They are always friendly and service is great and food is always good. However, they don't have any craft beer (-1) ... heck they don't have any adult beverages However I had to ask the question - "Do you serve beer?" . Well the answer was no but here is a well kept secret. IF you bring in your own beer and give it to the waitress, they will put it in the back and give it to you in a cup (so others don't see you are drinking). Just like Ma-Maw makes it! Sorry, it's all over their menu so I had to say it. Me and my friend ate here after our wonderful scenic drive through the Cherohala Skyway. This wonderful cafe is located literally a few hundred feet from the first main intersection off the Skyway road and is hard to miss with its big sign right outside of the establishment. I'm from Hawai'i and would like to believe I have eaten my fair share of a variety of foods from a variety of cultures. But color me impressed, I had not had real 'American' cooking until eating here. Hawaii has a different type of cuisine so my experience with burgers and fries and such aren't varied much from franchised fast food. Walking into the 'cafe', I immediately felt like I was walking into some one's house! Literally, the decor is like a home and the dinning section (there are two) really feel like someone's kitchen-room or the like. There were a bunch of other patrons already packing the place and we were lucky to not wait more than 5 minutes to be seated. Something to also point out, and may seem normal to you but a shock to us out-of-staters. Everything was so affordable! I mean, ludicrously affordable! For the same amount and quality, you'd be looking at double the price here in Hawai'i, which is quite the shame. There are a million and one options to choose from and I ultimately decided on the Cajun burger, with fries, and had bread pudding as my dessert. Simply put - yum yum yum! I enjoyed every single bite and the service was impeccable! Everyone treated us so nicely and it really made my riding vacation all that much more enjoyable. On the chance that I ever make it back to do more riding, I'll be sure to stop by again. Thank you to the family that really made it feel like home! We have dined at Tellicafe many times over the last several months. The service is always top notch with an excellent wait staff, and the owner(Rich) is often there greeting his customers and making sure they are well taken care of. The restaurant is comfortable with an extensive menu, with different specials added occasionally to celebrate different cuisines (Italian recently, and Oktoberfest currently). The food is consistently good and the prices are very fair. So far they have not implemented a 4% credit card like many other other restaurants. Rich has recently added a bar, and is currently adding an outdoor bar/seating area where he will also host live music and karaoke. There aren't many dining options here in Tellico Plains, but even if there were many more restaurants Tellicafe would still be among our favorites. read more
