Even coming from the "easy" approach (from Ouray, not from Telluride), our rental vehicles struggled in perfect weather. 4WD recommended for any trip there. 2. Opus Hut has bathrooms, but zero bath/showers. There is an out building with a wood-burning sauna, but that is as close as it gets. 3. Be prepared for a significant vertical hike at nearly 12,000 ft. elevation to get there from your car with all of your gear. 4. Be prepared for cold! Even in the summer it is cool and evenings are cold. There are stoves but no central heating. 5. Know that you are getting away from it all, and plan to get nowhere else while you are there, except for some beautiful hiking trails in the amazing mountain setting. 6. No internet or cell phone coverage. See #5. 7. The Hut has no soundproofing, so hopefully your group all likes going to bed or being quiet at the same time. My room had a giant window with no cover, so I was up with the sun every morning. Again, all of these issues have both pros and cons to them, and my 3-star review is classified by Yelp as "A-OK". So if you aren't scared off by this information, you'll probably have a great time.

Bob was an amazing host and great cook. The hut was in a great & remote location surrounded by days of hikes. If you drive from Telluride tho, make sure you have a true 4x4 with actual clearance. We took the drive with a semi 4wd rental car and it was probably the most freighting experience of our lives ha. Poor planing on our side hut hopefully a lesson learnt for others. We generally love the amenities (though we miss the lip balm that used to greet us). The WiFi is now flawless. We have only stayed in rooms 35 and 37 (better views out of 35 but we liked the quiet of the larger 37 this trip). Rooms have been mostly refurbished (our rooms fridge looked battered but worked great; yes, they have robes) and are generally very clean but on this trip we experienced an issue (discussed below). Not in love with the pricing, which has only gotten higher. Hey, I guess if you can get away with it, go for it. Not at all in love with the money-grab of the parking situation. When we started coming, it was $10/day. Now it's $35. Not in love with the dog-friendly nature of the place (I'm allergic). Supposedly (according to the website and front desk staff) the third floor is off-limits to pets, which should make it a place I can sleep without problems. Well, this time we found the carpet of our third floor suite of rooms was heavily coated with long, white dog hair. I took a Benadryl and mentioned it when we headed down to breakfast the next day and the (thoroughly wonderful) woman staffing the front desk was clearly alarmed and _immediately_ had Housekeeping go vacuum and clean the room; they did a good job which got most (not all) of the hair, so I didn't mention it again. (I do love the responsiveness of the staff, and generally the cleanliness of the room - it's just a problem when there are dogs shedding on carpet). The included breakfast buffet is not what it was: less selection with no more cold meats and cheeses, but still pastries, yogurt, a warm egg dish and warm meats, toasts and hard boiled eggs. Great service by staff in the breakfast room (which moonlights as Cosmopolitan restaurant). Good coffee. So. The unexpected and not entirely removed dog hair - not good. The service was great and generally really welcoming and friendly. Rooms are nice. The location is fantastic. Breakfast is nice, but no longer cartwheel-inspiring. Pricing is high - but look where you are. However, parking is - no other way to say it - a ripoff and kind of an insult. Overall, I guess it's a 4 out of 5 . . . but it's sure not the hip-hip-hooray five stars that I always gave it before I delete my last Yelp account.

We chose it because it is right across the street from a lift and the gondola and has suites with large outdoor decks and hot tubs. Our experience could not have been better. Every single employee we interacted with, from the front desk to the restaurant to the cleaning and maintenance staff were friendly and professional. Our room (25 & 26) was large and exactly as advertised. They combined two rooms to make a really nice suite, with a fireplace in the living room. The deck was spacious and looked out over the area by the lift and gondola. The view was so-so as there are buildings on every side, but it worked well for us. We enjoyed the hot tub each evening. It was very clean and held a steady 103 while we were using it, despite the outside temperature being in the low teens. Their ski locker room is clean and well organized, with a separate entrance/exit that let's you avoid walking through the lobby in your gear. The complementary breakfast each morning was fairly basic, but was more than enough to get us going for the day. The waitstaff kept the coffee flowing, which we really appreciated. We had a small mechanical problem with our room when we arrived, and they handled it immediately. The room price is what you should expect for a large suite in a boutique hotel in a ski town that is literally steps from the lifts and gondola. Although pricey, I believe if offered great value for what we got from the experience. Highly recommend.

The room was clean and comfortable and it was nice to sit outside under the awning and enjoy the view and rain. Just returned from a wonderful week skiing in beautiful Telluride where we stayed at the newly…read moreremodeled Ice House Lodge. My husband and I stayed in one of the (1) bedroom suites. These accommodations far exceeded our expectations. Our kitchenette had brand new state of the art appliances and contained everything we needed to make our meals. Our King size bed was a real king bed (not 2 twins pushed together like many other condos in Telluride have) and was very comfortable. Perfect location having to walk only about a 100 yards to the gondola. Close to main street, shopping and a market. We never once took our car out of the free parking garage. The manager, Doug was extremely attentive and even left us a 'welcome' voice mail on the phone in our room. We arrived to find terrycloth robes in our closet which were wonderful to walk to the hot tub in. There were also large towels for guests use in the hot tub/pool area. Everyone we came in contact with there were kind and quick to help us with anything we requested. Another nice bonus was the continental breakfast served each morning. I highly recommend this property and will most definitely stay there again.

The pluses...Location is prime (even in summer...I can only imagine how nice in ski season right next to gondola!) Friendly Staff..Jackie the "maintenance Mgr" was the first person I met when I accidentally entered the condo where we were to stay instead of checking in at the hotel side next door. She promptly issued a key and walked me to the room. Very friendly the entire stay! Doug the mgr I never actually met in person but he fielded my many calls/inquiries with warmth/patience and ultimately guided me to choose the condo option. I'm not sure if the condo parking is always included but it was so empty/off season he did provide us a parking pass for the rental car it's great to have covered parking just walk downstairs and get to the car! Speaking of car, Doug assured me no car needed in Telluride and that's true to a degree. If you plan to do nothing but stay in town you can get a shuttle for about $80 per person before tip ea way) and walk anywhere around town or take the little hop on bus if you don't like walking short distances. I know this as I came a day earlier than my husband and did that, but I can tell you how glad I was he arrived with the rental car (get a car unless ur skiing daily). We needed it to get to further trailheads and make side trip to Ourray and to meet his fishing guide Now back to the accommodations..It's SO confusing when you are researching the condos and hotel and trying to find pictures as they vary from unit to unit..I think we had 204? I will admit I am kind of picky about hotels rooms as I travel for a living and stay a lot of places and I just enjoy a luxurious comfortable room ..when I first walked in I was a little under impressed. It was very large but felt "dated" in decor though the kitchenette looked updated.But to further confuse you, when my husband walked in his impression is wow this is nice (as he took in the spacious living area). I had read about hot rooms/no AC in summer ..lucky for us this one had some type of window air pump in the living area with kitchenette remained quite cool though the bedroom was a bit warm (end of Aug) though the box fan and leaving a window open was fine for us we were comfortable, the bed was fine and the best thing for us was these units have two identical full size bathrooms! Never knew how much I would enjoy my husband having his own space. The bathtubs were very large and since I'm a "bath person" I appreciated that, but they are designed for very tall person and I couldn't get comfortable as the way they are designed you slip down the angled back (I finally figured a way to get myself turned around to put my head sideways on the faucet side to avoid the constant sliding down as my feet couldn't begin to touch the opposite end ..I've never had to describe a tub issue in a review before that's for sure If you are 6'5" and a bath person you will love these! Of course they have the shower as well. One thing that's very important to me is coffee in the morning. I'm not sure if it was an old Keurig or why, but it did not heat the water but the best part of staying in the condos is that they brew Starbucks coffee in the sunroom upstairs. It did seem that by the time I would get coffee at 7 AM it would usually require a little warming in the micro back in the room.. again I'm sure it was an issue with how empty the building was. The only other thing that I can review is, I just couldn't get excited about using the hot tub. Where it was located, kind of dreary and the water was not really hot or good jets. I will try to include some pictures with this review as I was desperately searching. It was not cheap by any means but for the area I think that I would stay here again. I certainly don't have any desire to stay up at Mountain Village. We took the free gondola up there and looked around. It was really dead and deserted this time of year. The gym is comfortable and has a variety of machines and weights. The location is perfect -- it's great to step outside, walk across the bridge, and meander along the river. Additionally, there is the most cool funicular that takes you from the ski shop, where your skies and boots are kept or rented, to a ski run at the top of the property. From the top of the funicular, you can ski down to a lift or walk up the small hill to the gondola. The jacuzzis are wonderful, as well. Our unit actually had a private jacuzzi, which was heated and had great views. Really enjoyed our stay.

Heart of Telluride is right in the middle of Colorado Ave. walking distance to everything. Shopping? It's all around. Food? Everything is right there. Grocery? liquor? Right here. Gondola and ski lifts? Quick 2 block walk. If you ski, they also provide lockers right at the base of the mountain. And if you like to partake in the 420 action, they have it. This place is three stories with a condo at the bottom that can be separate or can be rented along with the top 2 floors if you have a lot of folks. We rented the entire place so that means 2 kitchens, 2 washer dryers, 2 living areas, etc. The downtsfairs condo itself is gorgeous and would be awesome if you just have 2 people. King bed, steam shower, living area, fully appointed kitchen. Come up the stairs to the second floor where you find a huge master bedroom with king bed, huge master bath with steam shower and a stand alone tub. There is a washer dryer on this floor. Another bedroom has king bed, full bath, and entrance to the back itself in case you want to sneak in late. Another bedroom also without a bathroom inside but there's one across the hall. Did I mention that bathrooms have robes and slippers? And that the floors are heated? And that the bedrooms have fireplaces? It's truueeee! Then we have the top floor with an awesome kitchen with top of the line appliances and everything you need. And a nice sized living/ dining area along with a bar too. The patio outside is a superstar! Lots of furniture. Hot tub!! Grill!! Views or the mountain and town. The guy that met us and showed us the House was a wealth of info. And we were greeted with a gift basket in the upstairs and downstairs kitchens with wine, bread, a box full of chocolate treats, cheese, coffee, etc. Basically, you feel like the queen (or king) of the mountain if you stay at Heart of Telluride. This is the only way to do it!!

The host were attentive and the B&B was within walking distance to the Main Street. They also excepted dogs and they also had a cute dog. I thought the room was cozy although my friend who actually booked the room did think it was small. It is a historical building so I think in relation to todays standards it is small but it's was built in 1898, so just know the rooms are small and enjoy the coziness. They offered a breakfast, but when we arrived the host was on the phone booking a guest. We both were a tad confused on how to proceed so we decided to leave and get on with our day. I think a bit more communication regarding the breakfast would have made it a better experience. I would definitely stay there again even with the breakfast miscommunication.

Visiting Silverton Inn of the Rockies (aka The Alma House) is like a visiting a friend's house...if…read moresaid friend owned a beautiful, painstakingly restored historic boarding house haunted by three spirits. Innkeepers Albert and Betty make The Alma House feel like your home away from home in the mountains. Before I delve into what's so great about this place (and the ghosts therein), please indulge me in some history. Bridget Hughes opened The Alma House in 1902 as a boarding house for local miners. Many mining towns died in the early 20th century, but Silverton survived, as did The Alma House, which has operated continually ever since. Current owners Albert and Betty purchased the property in the late 1980s, restoring it to its original glory. The interior is brimming with Victorian elegance, all polished mahogany, period fixtures (lamps, armoires, vanities), and antiques. Every nook features some vintage artifact, some cool story that Albert and Betty are eager to tell. I could have spent a week here and still not seen everything. The amenities are the best of both worlds: vintage Victorian and modern. For every quaint touch (old-school physical door keys, narrow, vertigo-inducing staircases), you'll find something modern and convenient, such as WiFi and renovated bathrooms with shower heads tall enough for non-midget boarders. Every morning, Albert will whip up a delightful complimentary breakfast that could include just about anything. On the day I visited, my breakfast consisted of perfectly scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, a mini biscuit topped with mushroom gravy, a "breakfast slaw" of cabbage, strawberries, apples, feta, and poppyseed dressing, and a mini waffle sandwich with whipped cream and blueberry compote. You won't find a breakfast of this caliber at a chain hotel. Oh, you want to hear about the ghosts? I thought you'd never ask! The moment I crossed the threshold, I sensed the presence of three spirits. I said nothing to Betty and Albert, as I feared they would take me for a loon. As an investigator of all things paranormal, though, I had to know if my clairsentience was accurate. That evening, I broke out my instrumental trans-communication equipment and conducted a session in my room. Within minutes, I reached a male spirit identifying himself as "Mark." He revealed himself to me mentally as a man decked out in late 19th-century military garb, but his face was blurry. "Mark" spoke the names "Albert" and "Elizabeth" (Betty) and said that he chose to remain there. I was still hesitant to broach the subject of spooks and specters with the innkeepers, but I screwed up my courage and went downstairs to discuss my findings with Betty. She smiled warmly and confided in me that the Alma House is indeed haunted by three spirits, one of whom (an older man nicknamed "The General") has been seen/felt/heard in my room (#3, The Alamosa Room) and the room next door (#5, The Silver Vista). The other two spirits, she continued, are those of Bridget Hughes and a portly woman nicknamed "The Schoolmarm." Later that night, I meditated and called upon Mrs. Hughes. For this session, I decided to use only my new EMF detector, The Rook. I had already done a baseline sweep of the room and found no EMF readings. I did this to rule out any false positives. I asked Mrs. Hughes to step forward and make The Rook flash once for "yes" and twice for "no." To my surprise, she (or whomever was in the room) obliged, setting off The Rook only when asked a yes/no question. I learned that she approved of the current innkeepers, disliked The General, and considered my Nickelodeon pajama bottoms tacky. The next time you visit Silverton, skip the overpriced, overhyped Wyman and Grand Imperial and book a room at The Alma House. Back in its storied history, relax, and make two new friends...and maybe three new dead friends.
