    The Moonlight spicy tuna roll
    Steve P.

Arrived at 6:30 solo on a Tuesday evening and was seated immediately at the bar. There was a big screen TV playing the World Cup and they had a special World Cup menu with special food and drinks. The place has a large central bar with a few tables around the periphery as well as a few outside on the sidewalk. The decor is clean and modern and the place has a vibey feel. Not exactly sure how to rate this place. If rating it as a bar primarily that also has decent sushi, I'd give it five stars. If rating it as a sushi bar I'd give it three stars. All of the sushi that I had (nigiri, cut rolls and hand rolls) were good but nothing special. If you're looking for a great sushi experience, this is likely not the place. They have a small selection of Japanese and local craft beers as well as bottled and tap sake. I originally characterized the service as slow and inattentive. But looking at it from the perspective of a bar, it was casual and friendly in the slow way you'd expect for hanging out in a bar and socializing or watching sports.

Best nigiri in town. A lot of places on the 101 charge $12 for nigiri, but temaki bar's nigiri are all around $7. The quality is also insane. The new chicken teriyaki is also the bomb!

Local to the area. Was quoted 30-40 minutes for a party of 2 tonight. 1 hour 50 mins STILL not seated (see screenshots). Other parties are just jumping into tables with no order at all by the host stand. What a joke this place is now, I used to frequent in spite of the mid tier pre made poke shop 'sushi' and won't ever go back. Avoid this place, it used to be run well but not anymore

Wow this place was really busy and noisy! I like the fast turn over that just means fresh sushi for us. I ordered the 6 piece hand roll and I liked it a lot! Made me so full! The only thing that would stop me from coming back is the parking situation. Since we were seated on the bar area it was confusing if we were supposed to have a dedicated waiter or not. Luckily we just ordered once and didn't have to look for the same girl who took our order initially.

First visit in. Great ambiance, server Max was very sweet. It was super busy so service lagged a lil but he still bee lined to get us what we needed. Edamame & seaweed salad were fantastic. We had some hot saki with our dinner. Our roll had a discrepancy, however the most gracious manager Salvador comp'd our meal, went above and beyond to make sure our first visit would have us come back as repeat patrons. Thank you Mr. Salvador for your great customer service skills, management and dining accommodations. Very much appreciated. Also, I hope the girl who lost her Louis Vuitton wristlet & keys was able to retrieve them right away with finding them in the ladies restroom. Thank you for saving her keys and items for her. Again, you are appreciated. Hope to see yall soon in the near future.

This place has been on my to visit list for a while and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience! Me and my two friends visited on a Saturday night and there was no wait to be seated. They do offer reservations online. The shop itself is super cute and clean, good ambiance. We got Brussel sprouts to share and they were good, nothing to rave about. I ordered three hand rolls, a scallop one, salmon one, and crab one. I looove scallops and theirs was so fresh! It was my favorite one. The salmon and crab were great too. They offer a bunch of sauces and I liked the yuzu one the best. Docking down a point because they forgot one of my friends handrolls and we had to remind the server twice. I'd visit again!

I've always liked the hand roll style of sushi, regardless of whether I'm living in Japan or living in so cal! This place totally fits the bill. The service is super attentive and the menu is relatively simple. For me, it's always the 5 handrolls and either a Sapporo or some sake. Cool vibes and great food, can't ask for more...

One of my favorite food stops in Encinitas! I like sitting at the bar and getting the 4 hand rolls (Albacore, Yellowtail, Salmon, Shrimp). The Harland "Japanese style" beer is also really tasty. It can get pretty busy here so make sure to add your name to the wait list ahead of time if you're going at peak hours.

I was greeted quickly and sat at the bar. I ordered the restaurant week prefix menu. It all started with a small bottle of sake, which had a clean pleasant flavor. The Nigiri was especially tasty, each one seasoned perfectly. The 4 hand rolls were delicious and I was pleasantly surprised by the shrimp roll. It wasn't just pieces of shrimp with rice, they had seasoned it with some mayonnaise and other spices. Very good. I'm so happy that I decided to stop here for lunch.

Been wanting to try this place for quite a while... $19 for three hand rolls (that comes to $6.33 each... )That was the lunch "special" on the sign out front but it's actually their regular menu offering. Pretty misleading if you ask me... You might as well post the entire menu on the sign. You can get 3-4-5 hand roll kits... Nothing comes with it. No miso or edamame or anything. I was expecting a nice setup of cone shaped hand rolls but instead I was served a cylindrical roll that I thought was pretty small in diameter and length (size matters LOL) Imagine a basic cut roll but uncut, narrower and shorter. It didn't seem like it had a lot of fish in it either... They bring them out one by one. I was still hungry after all three and $19 in... Pretty disappointed so far - ordered a rainbow roll for $16.. the roll was much better. Very fresh.. but still seemed lacking in the size and the amount of fish offered. The ambiance is great It's right on the 101 in the middle of downtown Encinitas... Considering I just dropped $40 on my lunch and left pretty disappointed, I can't recommend this place. There are much better options in North county..

This place was such a vibe!! Sat up at the bar top, had a lychee martini, and some blue fin torro which was amazing! Staff was so nice and attentive. I would definitely be back! 5 stars!!

The Moonlight room was so ono with Shishi (perilla leaves) to balance out the flavors, Biko state (crunchy rice crackers and spicy tuna). Had to have the Dragon Roll. Onolicious marinated grilled eel with gobo for some crunch. Finally, we ordered the Omega Red roll. Woo! This one is loaded with all the textures and flavorings you can imagine. Scallop and Yellowfin Tuna were smooth. Cucumber Kimchi added crunch and Tongarashi for a little kick. Washed it all down with a glass of Sapporo!

dragon roll, rainbow roll, crunchy roll, and seaweed salad!

My cousins and I went here for the first time tonight to celebrate our birthdays! There were complications with our order that made the food take longer than expected. Overall the food was amazing and Peter who I believe is the manager was extremely kind and helpful when needed!

Bar seating (up front seating) close to the action!

"Best grilled cheese besides the ones we make at home." Only downside on the food was the clam chowder. Good flavor but hardly any clams (if any). I wouldn't get that again, but everything else was phenomenal. I almost rated this down to a 4 because of this (and a small order mishap), but honestly, this place is worth a solid 5 based on the overall food, vibes, and staff. This place's vibes are super chill. You can either sit inside or out. Very clean all around! Well-maintained restrooms and tables too. Solid drink options - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic as well! The Spanish rice also tasted like it had been sitting out for a while and was a little dry. I did appreciate that the black beans came topped with some cheese and were served in a little tostada bowl - a nice touch. The fish and chips were hands down the best thing we ordered. There are several restaurants and shops in the area, perfect for a small stroll after you eat. The restaurant was very clean and bright inside, and felt airy. They do have a patio as well as indoor seating. We had made a reservation and sat indoors. The service was good and they were helpful with the menu. I wanted something light and decided to go with the poke bowl. It tasted very fresh and the portion size was perfect for me. I wish it had a bit more sauce on it, and there wasn't very much edamame in it, but it was still good. I think next time i would just ask them to go heavy on those things. It did have a good amount of the pickled onions. Id order again. I also tried a bit of the lox flatbread which was also pretty good, i could really taste the dill and it was a good alternative to a lox bagel. The amount of salmon and feta were a good balance. We tried the beet salad which was very light, and a small portion. I dint think I'd order it again just because there are other things on the menu if prefer, but it was good. Id recommend coming to try Mia's and then taking a stroll to the nearby shops to browse.
