Coral Del Mar absolutely nails ambience. Beautiful location, very pretty space, great light, and the kind of place that makes you think brunch is going to be excellent. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. One of our biggest issues was the menu itself. We'd see something that sounded appealing, read the description, and then get thrown off by an unexpected twist. For example, the loco moco uses beef short ribs, which immediately makes it... not really a loco moco. The beet salad also sounded enticing until beet yogurt appeared in the ingredient list. That pattern made ordering feel more confusing than exciting. We started with the SPAM musubi with guava glaze and a side of miso aioli. The miso aioli was genuinely good. The musubi itself fell short. Only one side of the SPAM was seared, so it wasn't consistently crispy, the guava glaze was very subtle, and the musubi fell apart easily. I ordered the blackened seasonal fish tacos with a side of sweet potato fries. The seasonal fish was sea bass. It was nicely blackened but lacked robust flavor. The tacos normally come with pico and pineapple salsa. I passed on the pineapple salsa due to an allergy, and while the pico was initially missing, it was brought out promptly after I mentioned it. Our waiter really did try his best, and no issues here were due to service. The taco shells looked very promising but ended up being bland. After my friend wisely asked for salt and pepper, that helped improve the tacos, but I ultimately skipped the tortillas altogether and focused on the fish. The sweet potato fries were actually pretty good. They came with jalapeño ranch, which was fine, though again the miso aioli was the standout sauce. There was dirt in my water cup, which was a big miss. My friend ordered the egg scramble and was highly disappointed. The bacon needed to be crispier, the potatoes were not crispy, and the scramble included broccoli, which felt like an odd choice. The mix of brown, sweet, and purple potatoes was visually interesting but strange as a breakfast side. Pricing-wise, the SPAM musubi was $12 and the fish tacos were $21+, which feels steep given the execution. My friend treated me, so I don't know the final total, but the value didn't quite align with the experience. Bottom line: gorgeous space and great location, but the menu felt overthought and the food leaned too avant-garde without delivering enough flavor or cohesion. Service was attentive and kind; the issues were with the food itself.

We went here to celebrate my dad's birthday. The food is very delicious. Nice and cozy place and super friendly staff. We got crispy chicken bun and truffle fries for appetizer and it is very good. The chicken is crunchy and still juicy. Fries are great. Chilaquiles is very good. The portion is big. Blackened salmon salad is very delicious. The outside is crunchy and but fish still moist. The salad is very very refreshing and go great together with the salmon. Chicken katsu sandwiches is great as well. There are a lot of pieces of chicken and it very crunchy and moist. My kid got mac and Cheese and he loved it. Overall we had a great experience with the food and staff.

Came in to celebrate my Dad's 65th birthday. We made reservations online easily, this required a credit card to make. The menu is straight forward and everything sounded very yummy. Our table of 7 got a variety of items and shared. The shishito peppers were delicious, along with the prickly pear margarita. It was kind of busy so it took a while for our items to come out. I loved everything we ordered and highly recommend a visit here. They didn't do anything for the birthday guy but we ordered lava cake and ice cream.

After a long beach walk on a Saturday morning, walked in to Coral Del Mar, which was less crowded and more welcoming! From the brunch menu, we ordered the Blackened Salmon Hash and the Breakfast Toastada . The salmon hash was delicious with good flavors. Loved the combination of the vegetables in the hash. The Toastada was very good too. Nice Ambiance. A good place to enjoy the food sit and people watch!

It was our first time here ... well known location in Del Mar but new owners , new concept . Think Asian Fusion with Americana flavors. We started with their fried shrimp ( basic - pass) but the crispy rice and tuna was delicious! We shared a house salad , short ribs ( yum!) , pasta special ( basic ), brussel sprouts ( yum!) , a beautiful blackened yellowtail salad and their sea bass ( a bit dry for me but husband really enjoyed it ) Server was quick , not super friendly but it was a Sunday busy night ... corkage was $25, yay! We would go back and try some other items . I'm intrigued by their brunch ....

The food was great here we had the short rib tacos with avocado cream, and pickled onions $19. Jose was our server and he is amazing. Perfect service. The outdoor seating is cool and breezy on a summer day

I had come here to see my friend Jamie play here in the past when it was Zel's. I liked it then and now. It has a nice vibe and our server was very nice and attentive. They have music on Wednesdays and Sundays. I like to sit in the bar area and you can watch football also. Food is good and beer list is pretty good. They have a happy hour, with discounts on food. For an after dinner drink they only have one:couvasier. Please excuse my spelling.

I made a reservation through OpenTable, but it turned out not to be needed. We went around noon on a Friday and had no problem getting a table outside. Our server was warm and welcoming. We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer and the ahi tuna rice cakes and both were excellent. We also had a Pinot Noir. The space itself is really charming, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is easy with a nearby garage or street spots. The food was outstanding and the service was great. I'll definitely be back. Oh, and it's dog friendly!

As soon as you walk in, Coral feels modern but cozy with a great ocean view! Service was fantastic from start to finish and the food, especially the Bao Bun Benedict was delicious and felt like a fun new twist on typical brunch food. The drinks are wonderful though I do have to note that on menu, my mocktail was listed as $8 but on the receipt, we were charged $11. I'm not sure if there is a surcharge or a price discrepancy but double checking the receipt is something to note. Other than that, a fantastic brunch addition to the area and can't wait to be back soon!

The former home of Zel's has been converted to a coastal inspired eatery named Coral Del Mar. I had dined at the predecessor over a decade ago and recalled that it was dimly lit and fairly upscale. The ambiance of this new spot was definitely brighter and more casual. There was a covered front patio for seating that was about half occupied during my visit. I sat in the main dining area which could hold about 40 customers. A one-page food menu featured appetizers, salads, sandwiches, tacos, and entrees. The offerings spanned a variety of Pan-Asian cuisines. I started my meal with the Spam Musubi. Two pieces were sliced in half containing sushi rice, Spam, and guava glaze. A cup of miso aioli was provided for dipping, however I didn't use much as there was already sufficient flavor. The $13 price tag was steep as you can get the same quantity and quality from local Hawaiian places for about half the cost. The Herb Grilled Pork Chop was my entree which was served with sweet potatoes and brussels sprouts coated with a bourbon-chili glaze. The chop was already divided into several smaller pieces. This was unusual because whenever I have order this cut of pork, it is normally served whole and even on the bone. The sweet potatoes were a nice contrast to the meat while the brussels sprouts were prepared better than what I had eaten the night before at a different restaurant. My waitress was exceptionally friendly and chatty. Her service was prompt and efficient. For a newly opened business, the dinner I had at Coral Del Mar was at a four star level.

Located on Camino Del Mar, in the space formerly held by Zel's, is now Coral Del Mar, that serves a fusion of Baja, Hawaiian and South Asian inspired seasonal dishes along with creative drinks. Limited street parking. Have dined here a few times and really liked the casual vibe, great seating indoor and outdoor but no ocean views :( Just be aware, that if you're sitting outdoors, this restaurant is located where there is a bus stop, which can be annoying. Service by the staff was cordial, attentive and nice. The menus offer interesting selections which included a lot of spam, which I'm NOT a fan of. Other selections with appealing dishes that caught my interest and I posted pics of the dishes I liked most. Was glad that everything was presented and plated nicely and was fresh tasting. Especially liked the Seared Ahi salad which was mostly soba noodles but the kitchen accommodated my request to add greens, since it is a salad! Another fav was the Seared Salmon with potatoes, corn and peppers succotash aka relish, and green coconut curry sauce was so delish, my only complaint was it need more of the green curry sauce. The drinks menu had cool concoctions. The spicy guava margarita was perfect, loved the piña glass. Coral Del Mar restaurant is a welcomed addition to the area. When you're meandering throughout the Del Mar neighborhood reefs, make sure you visit this reef: Coral Del Mar a worthwhile visit. Recommend

We came here for a Saturday brunch. Nice restaurant in Del Mar. It has two parking spots on the side of the restaurant, but we were able to find street parking easily on the Saturday morning. The restaurant has an outside patio, inside restaurant, and a large bar area. We sat outside because the weather is nice and cool. The brunch menu is nice. Simple brunch items. The loco moco on the lunch menu was really nice. Very interesting design, crispy rice, short rib and poached eggs. The broccoli was excellently done! My sesame ahi salad was so so. Very light and healthy. I wasn't expecting a noodle salad plate, but I finished it anyways. Overall, the restaurant has many healthy and fusion flavors on their menu.

A few days later, I placed an online order about 15-20 minutes before arriving. Since I work nearby, I thought it would be convenient to grab my drink on the way to work. When I arrived, my order hadn't even been started. The employee at the counter seemed unaware that the order had come through until she noticed the printed ticket. I figured it was a busy morning and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, the exact same thing happened again just two days later. This time, I placed my order 25 minutes in advance. When I arrived, my drink still hadn't been started. The same employee asked if I had already ordered, and when I explained that I'd placed the order 25 minutes earlier, there didn't seem to be much acknowledgment or urgency regarding the mistake. At that point, I requested a refund because I couldn't wait any longer. People use online ordering in the morning because they're on a schedule and expect their order to be ready within the estimated pickup window. If online orders aren't being monitored consistently, it defeats the purpose of offering the service. What's especially disappointing is that I genuinely enjoyed the product and was planning to stop by regularly before work. However, after two identical experiences in one week, I no longer feel confident that my order will be ready when promised. The drinks may be great, but reliability and customer service matter too. I hope management addresses the online ordering process because it's likely costing them repeat business.

My favorite breakfast dishes are the chicken and waffle, country fried steak and french toasts. They perfectly bread the chicken and the homemade country gravy it adds that extra goodness to the meal. I also love their fresh-pressed juices, and I usually request a plantation iced tea -- iced tea mixed with pineapple juice. So refreshing! The decor is adorable too. It has a cozy farmhouse café vibe that makes the whole place feel warm and inviting. And the bread pudding from Sunny Side is definitely worth mentioning. I usually don't like bread pudding, but this is far from ordinary. It's made with croissants and chocolate, drizzled with chocolate sauce, dusted with powdered sugar, served with raspberries, and strawberries. You have to add the ice cream...cause why not? Absolutely indulgent and perfect for sharing. Totally worth those extra calories! Overall, we'll definitely keep dining here. But today I needed a little extra je ne sais quoi because my morning was annoying, so I decided to splurge on lunch and not just a pastry here. I asked Steve, the (très beau et gentille!) co-owner what the quiche of the day was. There were two: one with jambon (ham) and one with épinards et fromage de chèvre (spinach and goat cheese). When I hesitated, he told me that the spinach one was amazing. Even though it's $20 for a quiche plate, I decided to go for it. I thought I was going to get a sad little quiche slice for that amount and might regret it. But OMG, it was more than worth it! Already they have a lovely patio on this pretty street in this fancy design district. But it was also a HUGE and exceptionally savory rectangular slice, alongside a DELECTEABLE petite salade. I asked Steve what mustard they use in the vinaigrette, and he said plain old Dijon - but the proportions and the seasoning were EXCELLENT. So it was salad perfection, not heavily dressed at all, just delightful. The patio was full on a Friday with ladies who lunch - but did that include me, as a solo diner, since I am a lady who had lunch? I'm not sure, but you can feel comfortable here no matter what. And now I know Madeleine Cafe is much too good to just come for coffee and for ordering in French from Steve or his co-owner Emmanuel. I don't want to spend that much for lunch every day - but I'll be back!
