No table, the concept is a long bar - I liked that idea! Hiphop in the background, surfboard decor with some graffiti'ish like art, and the feels of todays interior design of wood tones, wood table counter, and plants. EDAMAME WITH SMOKED SEA SALT ($5) - I liked the smoked sea salt, the smokiness was extremely light to barely noticeable and the sea salt is always better than regular table salt. Edamame was boiled just right, the edamame we're soggy and had a nice cooked yet firm texture. HIGHLY RECOMMEND BEEF TATAKI ($9) - mustard seed, shiso, ponzu, brown butter aioli. UHM, the pieces were tiny af! 4 small thin slices pieces that equates to $2.50 per slice. When it came out I was quite disappointed with the portion. The taste was nice though. I will say the mustard seed paired very well with the cold slice of beef. Good flavor but not worth the price. RECOMMEND if you don't care about the price and don't care about getting full. MOONLIGHT ($9) - spicy tuna, shiso, bubu arare. "What is bubu arare" ... it's basically fancy term for tiny rice crispy buffs (tiny rice balls). Pleasant experience. Very limited menu. Pricey, small portion sizes. Came here for lunch one day, as it was new and had just opened several weeks ago. We wanted to try it out. The whole restaurant is bar seating only, there are no tables, people sit all around. It was pretty busy when we got there. Our server recommended to get the hand rolls. The menu was quite limited, there was some selection of hand rolls and similar selection of sushi and cut rolls. A few cold appetizer and that's about it on the menu. I would not recommend for larger group of people with different food preferences. Also hard to talk to each other if you all sit side by side on the bar. We got the hand roll combo. The hand rolls were very tasty but very small. In fact everything we ordered was very tiny. I felt like we ordered a lot of items but still felt hungry after the meal. The quality of fish was good. Okay I have a friend and whenever we have lunch we like to go to sushi. We hadn't seen each other in a while and she always asks me what's new restaurant wise and had me pick a spot. Today was temaki and I hit it out of the ball park with this one. New spot in a big open airy room. You walk in and up to the host stand to be seated. The gentlemen at the stand greeted us and sat us promptly at the bar, I think that's all there is. I didn't see tables. The menu is quite different from most sushi spots. You can choose 3, 4 or 5 hand rolls, single hand rolls, sashimi, or cut rolls. We did the 4 hand roll choice and it did not disappoint. Each roll (albacore, yellowtail, salmon & shrimp) had crispy nori and tasted so fresh. The sauces and flavors of each are unique. I ordered an additional toro hand roll and my friend a scallop roll. There wasn't one thing we did not like. They offered us a choice of soy sauce or tamari which is great. The staff was very friendly and helpful with answering our questions and the prices are great! Run do not walk to this spot before it gets its due recognition and the wait becomes long ! read more

I've visited the sister location of this restaurant in Las Vegas. The one here in San Diego has far more seating and far more reasonable prices. While the temaki (hand rolls) are small l, the crab definitely packs a punch and deserves a highlight. I go here specifically for the crab temaki. If you make it for happy hour, 4$ salmon temaki is a great deal. This place can be quite pricey if you're want to get super full but great for a quick snack, happy hour break. If it wasn't so far up in Encinitas I'd be back more often! read more

A much needed addition to the pretty boring sushi places in Encinitas. Recently opened but not too many growing pains when we went there but we went early. The night before there was a really long wait and they don't take reservations. Cool setting but high ceilings and hard surfaces lead to a very loud experience especially when a bunch of dudes near you are screaming and doing shots. A giant sushi bar with high chairs and no tables to sit at for dinner. How is this ADA compliant? Hmmm. I'm just amazed that they left so much space empty that could have handled more diners. The staff was awesome and very helpful. One problem is because it was so loud you had to shout back and forth just to hear each other and we were there at 530! They make the rolls in a machine?! Just go and you will see. I love that they are open straight through from 11 am to close so if you want sushi at 3 pm you can just get it and I love having a lunch sushi option. The prices are very good but the portion size is small. They tend to over salt which isn't great when there's already soy sauce and ponzu on the fish. Limited but nice menu. Sake menu could use some more dry options. The one on tap is not dry although they say it is. Didn't try the beer or wine but impressed with the Daou rose option for wine lovers. The hamachi app is delicious but only 3 slices. The hand rolls were quite good but small and the only one that was so so was the Maine lobster. The meat was dry and there was no flavorful sauce. There is just the fish and a sauce in the Temaki, nothing else. Blue crab, yellowtail and albacore were delicious. It's so rare to see any real blue crab on the west coast! Nigiri was very high quality. Didn't try the rolls. The spicy tuna crispy rice had superb crispy rice but the tuna was no way spicy. You can order 2 of the 5 specialty dipping sauces for $1 if you'd like. They include ponzu, yuzu koshu, spicy Temaki, spicy mayo and eel. I liked the yuzu koshu. The whole setup is weird that your sushi chef is right in front of you at the bar but you have to flag the waitress down to order. The staff were all great and the warmth from the team surpasses other locals like Kaito, Blue Fin or Kai Ola where they pretty much ignore you. So great quality, decent prices but small portions, a great staff, very loud and seating only at the bar on stools. We liked the vibe and will be back but not on a weekend and not at peak hours. i would not recommend this place to others! ‍ TL;DR: the customer service is unwelcoming and inattentive! they don't clean up the dirty plates and mess well after guests have finished their food! the fish is not fresh and my roll i purchased had no flavor! upon entering the restaurant, i stood next to the sign that said "wait here to be seated by host" for 30 seconds before one of the many waiters acknowledged me (the waiters were not busy). one of the waiters said i could sit anywhere however there were dirty plates and a big mess where i chose to sit! i asked the waiter if she could clean the areas next to me! (its bar sitting so there were dirty plates on the left and right of me) while she cleaned the mess she asked, "how many people will be dining with you?" i thought that was quite a funny question because she knew it was only me when she told me to sit anywhere! she asked that question because i asked her to clean the mess to the left and right of me which was a bit sarcastic! who wants to eat next to dirty plates and a mess right next to you?! not me! fast forward to me finishing my food, another waiter came to pick up my plates and the plates of the guests next to me! but did not clean the mess! ‍ the customer service was very poor, unwelcoming, and inattentive! the food was not good! you can't have bad customer service AND bad food! the fish was not fresh! i got salmon nigiri and the salmon was tough and overly chewy! i also got the shredder roll! it was flavorless and bland! i had to ask for spicy mayo to finish it! one thing i did like was that it was happy hour and they had a house wine for $5! the wine was really good! read more

I come here at least once a week for their nigiri and 9 times out of 10 it is delicious and buttery. Every once in a while I am disappointed with the quality of fish I'm served but that hasn't stopped me from returning. I love the wrap around bar seating- fitted with hooks underneath for your coat or purse. The service can be a bit spotty at times but for the most part they are attentive and accommodating. Located in the busy part of town, it can be a challenge to find parking. When we came on a Friday night, it was mostly just street parking that we walked a block away from (not too bad)! When we got in, we were promptly seated at the main bar. While a bar is not my preference, it seemed to fit the vibe of this restaurant more to sit at the bar. We ordered their recommended sets and a few appetizers. First off the handrolls come one at a time and it was a bit unclear when the items would come. It did not seem to be on a consistent time interval, but it likely depended on how busy the chefs were. It seems the bar was designed to have a more intimate experience, but the chefs seemed to pop around as needed to accommodate the number of people. The handrolls themselves were all solid, but nothing overtly remarkable to note. At least compared to the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. My wife and I still talk about this appetizer, and was for sure the highlight of the evening! The space was mostly bar with a few tables. It was a bit dim and a little loud, but there was nothing too annoying for our time together! While the crispy rice was good, I don't think I would justify the cost to return (sushi is expensive)! read more

I love sushi and bars. By default, I love a bar concept when it comes to a sushi restaurant. There is a couple of hi tops besides the bar counters. But for the most part, the interior follows the traditional bar design - perfect for a casual hangout for a small group of friends or a cute date night. I came in a rainy night, so it was not too packed. My friend found two spots at the bar with ease. Upon seating, we were greeted by a lovely server. She let us have a look at the menu before ordering. Not too long after, a chef introduced himself and said that he will be taking care of us. The experience was similar to that of a bar: instead of watching a bartender makes drinks, we watched a chef hand rolled our sushi. We could stay there for as long as we want and order whenever we would want to. Service was friendly and fast. Moving onto the food, we started with a set of tempuras. I love the variety of vegetables, especially the sweet potato. Nice and crispy texture throughout paired with tentsuyu. My friend ordered a set of hand rolls and different nigiris - fresh and delicious. I also tried the special roll that came with edible firecrackers - it was okay and mostly gimmicky. We had dinner at Temaki Bar for the first time last week. We have walked past it before and seen that it's always busy - especially the seating around the bar. Now I understand why. The whole concept is about getting hand rolls that are freshly made so that the warm rice, crispy nori and cold fish are all fresh. Our server said that they wanted us to eat them as soon as they were given to us - so they make your hand roll, only when you have finished the prior one. Great concept! I've not had hand rolls this fresh and delicious before. They also have sushi, sashimi and rolls - all of which were delicious too. There is so much creativity in their dishes, and you can see the pride they have in presenting their customers with such tasty food. Loved the decor - it is warm, and inviting - and just perfect for their location in downtown Encinitas. I decided to try the cucumber salad as a starter and was not only impressed with the presentation but the flavor as well. The sauce was salty, sour, and sweet. I wanted seconds but had to save room for my rolls. I ordered the 5 hand roll set which was amazing paired with the yuzukosho and temaki spicy sauce. I then tried the super ninja bunny cut roll per the servers recommendation (very attentive service btw). I was blown away with this roll. The inside had blue crab, toro, bubu arare (rice cracker) and chives while topped with brown butter aioli, caviar, and truffle oil. The roll alone was amazing, but I was curious to see what it would taste like with a slice of lemon on top... it was a game changer! I'm so glad I did it! Such a great combination of flavors.
