Literally life-changing. In the first 5 weeks, I lost 13 pounds. And, more importantly, my blood pressure went down to normal after being extremely high for the last couple of years. I didn't think I needed a nutritionist because I am fairly knowledgable about diet and nutrition. I was referred to Temecula Dietitians from my PCP after being officially diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic for over 3 years now. I was ready to just blow this off as I had with other referrals but the Good Lord told me something was different this time and to give it a try. I was prepared to hear what one would expect to hear being an overweight male with type 2 diabetes which was to lose weight and eat healthier. I got assigned to Annie and it was a match made in heaven because from the first hello I could sense and feel this was different. I am almost three months into my walk with Annie now and that alone is something to write about. I usually get hyped for 1-2 weeks and then by the third week I am back to the same old same. Annie has helped fix and restore my relationship with food and exercise in just a short amount of time. She is kind, patient, understanding, compassionate, empathetic and she actively listens to what I have to say. She also understands where I come from and continues to improve along with her clients which makes it so relatable and comforting that I am not alone. Annie has a great personality and definitely loves her job. I never once felt that she is doing this because she "has" too which is very important to me. She has taught me so many things in these past 3 months and to see for myself that it is actually working for what feels like the first time in my life is mind blowing. To have something that I have been able to stick with for this long is huge. It is realistic and attainable with small steps that are easy to accomplish. Not having to worry about numbers is also a huge bonus and so freeing. If her bosses are reading this please give Miss Annie a raise! :D The proof is in the numbers which is something I no longer fear as much as I used to. My blood sugar has dropped from the 300's to the 150's and they stay there. My blood pressure numbers have also dropped from 160/90 down to the 120's over 70's. I can enjoy foods that I was lead to believe were off limits due to reason X, Y, Z. For me that is fruit and specifically bananas and grapes. I can't begin to tell you all how exciting and awesome it has been to be able to enjoy those fruits again as well as other foods like avocados, sour cream, and many more. My meals have flavor and variety once again and it tastes pretty good ( I will be here all week so the puns will be coming at ya). It takes a while to unlearn a lot of the diet culture that we have learned over the years. With me, that began at an early age of 8 years old and dealing with family members that always watched what I ate and how much I ate. Doctors who just had that attitude of "oh it's another fat guy who will always be fat" and gave the classic eat healthier exercise more advice and not truly caring about a patient like me. I am so glad that I listened to the Good Lord and took a chance and started my journey and met a great friend and TITAN Annie( a play on the word dietitian). I would highly highly HIGHLY recommend giving them a try and you will see the difference when that week 3 rolls around and you are still with it and making progress on your journey to repair the relationship with food. They were friendly from the first phone call and also understanding when I had to reschedule my original appointment. They offer in-person or home video sessions which I prefer.
