Tempe Birth Center is by far the most reputable, experienced, compassionate, and professional establishments for women in their prenatal, postnatal and women's health services. Being that my mother is a home birth midwife, my standards for care were, to say the least, very high. When we moved to the Phoenix area and got pregnant in the fall of '22 I interviewed 4 different home birth midwives and Wendi and Kate stood out above them all. Not to mention I learned later that Wendi delivered my Dr.'s babies and came very highly recommended. Sadly three months into my pregnancy we lost the baby, the support physically and emotionally given by Wendi and her team was beyond measure. So, of course when I got pregnant again just a couple months later I went back to the team that gained my trust through such a vulnerable time. My prenatal care was not only thorough from a medical standpoint. My emotional wellbeing, nutrition, and lifestyle were well supported with so much loving care from not just my midwife but from her partner Kate and all their amazing assistants. One of the very important reasons I chose Tempe Birth center was specifically the partnership between Wendi and Kate. Both having different backgrounds they offered two different perspectives, but so beautifully complimented each others strength and really worked in partnership. I had the most amazing home birth and although they'll say that it was all me, I couldn't have done it without them - because truly feeling supported by your birth team is the foundation to a successful birthing experience. I am beyond grateful to them!

Wendi, Kate, and the wonderful student midwives at the Tempe Birth Center made my birth experience so special! The care they provided at every single visit was unmatched. The importance they put in informed consent makes you feel so confident and in control of your birth and made the day of so perfect. Every woman deserves the level of prenatal and postpartum care that these ladies provide. If you're looking for an amazing birth experience look no further, these are your gals! Thank you to the amazing women at the Tempe Birth Center!

My time at Tempe Birth Center was magical and absolutely incredible. They did all my prenatal care and I went into labor at the Birth Center. Hanefa and Kate were some of the most gentle and loving midwives I could've asked for. They nurtured and cared for me in ways that I didn't even know I would need during labor. After laboring naturally at the Birth Center for 35 hours, I got transferred to Banner university to get an epidural and that was also a magical experience. Kate sent me to a really great midwife named Kenzie who ended up delivering my baby. I am so grateful for the medical care, spiritual care and overall experience with this team. Birth and being pregnant are such vulnerable times in a womans life and I was able to talk about every fear, concern and opinion I had at the Birth Center. The team listened with open ears and had my best interest at heart and wanted to keep me safe. You are in great care if you choose to deliver here!

We had a lovely birth with Kate and Wendi. all of our prenatal visits were great, they took all the time to answer questions, ask about my health and go over labs, ultrasound etc. the place is very peaceful and good vibes. Even though we didn't birth at the birthing center because our baby arrive at 36 weeks ( considered premature ) they helped us bridge everything to the hospital and we felt taken care of. We birth with a midwife at the hospital, a room with a tub, they respected my preferences and overall a LOVELY birth. during postpartum we felt very taken care of, they checked on my thoroughly and baby too. always asking questions to truly see how I was doing, I appreciated that. Those home visit is were lovely. They have a beautiful network too, they helped me find my Doula which I Love! we attended their birth classes which helped a lot and to be part of the community. We are so happy we met them, our experience with our first child could not have been better, even though we didn't birth there, I still had my un medicated birth and respected my choices. I totally recommend them, every step of the way

Due to the extremely high mortality rates that black women face, I knew early on that I didn't want a hospital birth, but went against my instincts and spent the first five months with an OBGYN (see below). I researched many of the birthing centers in the valley and toured one of them. Upon speaking with Wendi on the phone, I knew INSTANTLY that I wanted to give birth at TBC. She was very compassionate, understanding, and knowledgeable and that occurred all within a 20 min initial phone call. My first tour was over an hour. Wendi listened to me and asked so many amazing questions. All of my appointments that followed were at least 1 hr. I started my journey at an OBGYN despite my gut instincts not to, and I hated it. Our appointments with the doctor were literally 5 mins and she belittled all of my concerns. After an encounter at the ER where I received more info from the ER DR than I did in the whole 5 months with my OB, I immediately switched to TBC. Wendi and Kate are hands down amazing. I had such a wonderful experience with them. I had a few complications during pregnancy and Kate was extremely supportive and knowledgeable. I love the two of them together. They really do complete each other as Kate is more medical based and Wendi is more holistic which I LOVE. My birth was magical. I also had a doula, which also made the experience wonderful. I have heard so many horror stories stories when it comes to births, but thanks to TBC and my doula, my birth story is a BEAUTIFUL ONE. Postpartum care was also amazing. If I could give 10 stars I would. Thank you Wendi and Kate!

6-week postpartum visit in office with student midwives Henifa and Shae and CPM Wendi.

Thank you Tempe Birth Center for supporting me through an incredible journey of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. All staff at TBC, including my team of midwives and midwife students, provided me with utmost compassionate care, education and resources, emotional support, guidance, informed consent, and the ability to safely create my own empowered birth experience. Each appointment was met timely and professionally; I was provided ample space and time to review progress and any and all concerns. I felt highly valued, safe, and completely seen and heard as a patient. I am eternally grateful for every part of my experience working with this team. I would recommend TBC's services to anyone and am a strong advocate of women taking back their sovereign birthing rights.

I just had my 6 week postpartum, final appointment with TBC and I cried driving out of the driveway (yes, driveway- because they're located in a beautiful little home turned office). If you're looking for wonderfully qualified professionals without the cold, sterile environment of a hospital, this will probably be the place for you. I originally came to Kate while having unexplained fertility issues and quickly felt safe and cared for in her care. She carried me through a successful, 9 month pregnancy along with Wendi (obsessed with them both!) and they were both there through every question and worry I had. They're always just a text message away! They're off/on hands as much as you want. They have all the best resources for prenatal and postnatal care for you and baby. I ended up having a home birth with them (after my first born was born in hospital with epidural) and I cannot express how special it is having postpartum appointments at your own home. I've found family in TBC and I know many others have as well. If I have any more babies, it will be right back here with them. Their student midwives are also all wonderful. I was even able to use insurance for part of the payment and TBCs payment plans are superrr friendly. They really just care about their people here.

I should start out by saying that I received good care from Dr. Holmes and his staff, and delivered…read morea healthy baby girl by C-section, which he skillfully performed. However, here are the things I wish I had known before I chose him as my provider: There were times during my labor and delivery that he didn't know who I was. He kept confusing me with other patients. This was entertaining in some instances and not in others - for example, when he confused me with someone else who under no circumstances wanted a C-section. My baby's heart was in distress, my own heart (with a documented and discussed history of arrhythmia) was tachycardic, my water had ruptured more than 30 hours before (a month prematurely), I was running a temperature, and I was only dilated to a 2, and yet *I* had to be the one to bring up the possibility of a C-section. He was shocked when I did, because he thought I was vehemently against surgical intervention. This, despite the fact that two days before at my 35 week appointment, we literally shook hands that he would lean toward C-section if things went south. Another instance of him not knowing who I was: my water broke at midnight, so I called the answering service. They took my name and gestational age, and within a minute I was speaking to the doctor who informed me to head to Banner Gateway. I saw him the next morning, where he looked at my chart and expressed surprise that I was only 35 weeks pregnant. This could have been dangerous if my baby had been any more premature than she was, as Banner Gateway isn't as well equipped to take care of premature babies as Banner Desert is. Even if the answering service failed to tell him my weeks of gestation, shouldn't he have asked? Or shouldn't he have remembered, considering I saw him 12 hours before that phone call, at my 35 week appointment? At first I thought it was neat that he spent so much time with his patients and that he does all the ultrasounds personally. But ultimately what that means is that he and his staff are over-extended, and you WILL wait at each appointment; possibly up to an hour. I couldn't figure out why he wouldn't just hire an ultrasound tech to re-distribute some of the work, because lord knows the man has plenty of demand. (I even had a hospital staff member say to me incredulously, "He sure delivers a lot of babies...") I assume he just doesn't want to pay another staff member, but the entire practice suffers as a result, and it doesn't look good for him. Tip: If you choose him as your provider, get into the habit of asking for the very first appointment of the morning. (And even then, you might have a wait, depending on how his early-morning rounds at the hospital go. But it's your best hope.) The ultrasound equipment is ancient; forget about seeing clear images of your baby. You'll be lucky if you can make out a spine or a head. My best friend was pregnant at the same time as me and the difference between our ultrasound photo keepsakes makes me sad. I had no concept of my daughter's face or profile before she was born. The office itself is very old and tired and decorated like an 80's Relief Society room. There's a Book of Mormon in the lobby. (I'm even Mormon but found that off-putting.) At my first appointment, they gave me a little trinket that I got the strong impression was intended to be distributed in the parking lots of Planned Parenthood clinics - a pin showing you the size of your baby's feet at 10 weeks, and I think there was a scripture? If I recall correctly? All of this to say, I did not get the impression that the doctor would be supportive of all of a woman's options and rights when it comes to pregnancy. At my six week follow up, he talked about prescribing me a birth control pill that could have caused my milk to dry up. Luckily I was informed enough to know that as a nursing mother I needed a pill without estrogen - but if I hadn't known that, it could have been disastrous to my milk supply. Also, as soon as I left my six week follow up, I realized he never cleared me for sex! I thought that was the whole point of the six week appointment!! It was never mentioned. I don't plan to have any more children, but if that changes, I won't be seeing Dr. Holmes again. He's a very nice man and his team is as wonderful as all the reviews say (Alejandra in particular is a true gem), but everything considered I cannot recommend the practice.

Last month I decided I wanted to try the pellet again, minus the testosterone. I went in for a checkup, and thoroughly explained what had happened last time and that while I wanted an estrogen pellet, I did not want testosterone again. The doctor agreed, she said "That was way too much, we won't do that again." We scheduled the procedure for late May. The procedure took place last thursday, and when it was over I said "I'm glad I won't have to deal with that testosterone anymore." and the doctor responded "What do you mean, we put testosterone in this pellet too." I told them to take the pellet out immediately, that we had had a thorough conversation about this and I made it clear that under no circumstances did I want testosterone. She said she didn't remember the conversation. I told her it's explicitly her job to remember the conversation. She told me there's nothing in the records about it. I told her it's explicitly her job to keep those records. The pellet had already crumbled in my body at this point and she informed me that she was unable to remove it.
