I did not end up delivering with this office because my baby came too quickly, so I can only speak to the care I received during pregnancy. My biggest issue was the front desk. Every single time I went in, the staff was rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. Appointments they claimed were scheduled were not actually booked, which created unnecessary stress and confusion. I constantly had to advocate for myself because no one clearly explained what appointments I was there for or what was supposed to happen next. The insurance issues were also a nightmare. I am a veteran and receive maternity care through the VA. Their office spoke directly with my VA maternity care coordinator, yet I still had problems with my insurance at almost every visit. Instead of trying to help or find a solution, the attitude I got was basically, "Sorry, nothing we can do." That is unacceptable, especially when dealing with a pregnant patient in a vulnerable position. Toward the end of my pregnancy, I actually started canceling appointments because going into that office caused me more stress than reassurance. There were days I left in tears. The front desk staff showed no empathy, no professionalism, and no willingness to do anything beyond the bare minimum. As for Dr. Bruce, I did not have major issues with him personally, but I did feel dismissed at times. I understand insurance and front desk problems are not directly his job, but they are happening in his office, under his name. When I brought up issues, I did not feel like anyone cared enough to address them. I also had extremely severe varicose veins during pregnancy. Dr. Bruce did not seem very concerned, and I had to push to get a referral. When I finally saw the vein specialist, she was very concerned and told me they were the worst veins she had seen in about 20 years. Overall, I left this office feeling unsupported, dismissed, and stressed during one of the most vulnerable times of my life. I wish the people working there cared more about the type of care they are supposed to be providing. Pregnancy is already overwhelming. Patients should not have to fight the front desk, fight insurance confusion, and fight to be taken seriously at every visit. read more

I'm so upset with how the lady in the front was talking to me. I had to reschedule my appointment because I had school orientation that day. I called trying to reschedule because that is the only day available for my schoo's orientation. I was trying to talk to her but she had attitude. I asked if there's anyway I can get placed on stand by because they couldn't reschedule me sooner at this time. They were trying to schedule my 1st ob appt at 20 weesk pregnant. There was so sense of empathy or understandin. Obviously people call to reschedule for a reason not just becaus. Not once did I get attitude to receive the answers I received from. She was like well that's why we already gave you that appointmen. I'm like ok I was also trying to be accommodating knowing things are busy but to talk to patients like that is unacceptable. I also requested if I was able to get a new provider with more open availability but you have to get approved which I don't understand when they hadn't even seen me. Just because they confirmed it doesn't mean they did anything we haven't even started anything yet. It was going to be my first time getting actually checked. It was like I was the prr at the front trying to calm the patient down trying to acc or asking what was able to be done. But with her it seemed like she did not care to even try to figure something out with me. I will not be going back. Its crazy you get told to come in as soon as possible then when you trying they don't have anything until months into your pregnancy then you will get told why haven't you came in earlier well maybe if Drs weren't only in 3 days a week and allowed for more patients to be seen. I'm so upset because I was really looking forwa to getting care from them. But this was a sign that I should just go somewhere else. They are not accommodating and you will get yelled at for god forgive life things that come up just poor attitude. read more

Whether discussing routine check-ups or my desired birth plan, Dr. Culbertson took the time to explain everything thoroughly, ensuring that I, as well as my husband were fully informed and empowered in my healthcare decisions. Beyond his impressive medical acumen, Dr. Culbertson possesses an exceptional bedside manner. He approached each appointment with empathy, compassion, and genuine concern for my well-being. No question or concern was ever dismissed; I always had a list of questions ready to go every time I saw him (clearly, I was a 1st time mom, and it showed) and he took the time to address every single one. Furthermore, the entire staff at the practice reflects their commitment to excellence. One thing I really liked was meeting his colleagues as an "office best practice". As nerve racking as it could be to not have my head doctor at my delivery, getting to know Dr. Bruce and Dr. Lythgoe was comforting. It was a very seamless experience. Luckily my OB was there every step of the way. My hospital ended up being 6 days and Dr. Culbertson paid me a visit every other day, I remember feeling relieved every time I saw his face! I am now 7 weeks post-partum (cesarean) and hands down he is the best surgeon! This may sound odd, but my incision looks so pretty! I cannot say enough about Dr. Culbertson and his practice. I work as a nurse at nearby hospital and he came highly recommended by many of my coworkers. He is a great, thorough physician with great bedside manner. He made sure I got all of the prenatal care I needed with an extensive family history of cardiac issues, and he made me feel safe and secure the entire time while being pregnant during a pandemic. Although it wasn't ideal that visitors were extremely limited due to COVID, they followed the CDC guidelines, and as a pregnant woman whose health is more vulnerable, I could appreciate the extra safety precautions the office took. It was nice to meet the other physicians in the practice (who were just as kind!) prior to delivery. The office also has the convenience of a lab on site, so no need to travel to an outside clinic to get blood work done. It's a beautiful, clean office and I've never felt like I was not taken care of there. During my delivery, Dr. Culbertson was calm and collected the entire time, and patiently explained all my options as my baby wasn't dropping. We went with a cesarean section and although this wasn't the original plan, he gave me many options and totally made me feel comfortable with each and every one of them. I chose to go forth with the cesarean, and I was definitely nervous, but he kept me at ease the entire time and delivered my baby safely. I am soooo beyond thankful to Dr. Culbertson and will continue to see him and I will refer him until I'm blue in the face. I just want to note--it means something when MANY nurses go to the same practitioner. To know and trust someone, and give him a referral is a big deal. And I know many nurses across the entire hospital in many different units who use him as their primary OB/GYN. He's wonderful!!!! read more

I recently gave birth to my first baby, and have now experienced both GYN and OB services at Midtown OBGYN. I cannot say enough good things about this practice and highly recommend to anyone seeking GYN or OB care. The office is very modern and exceptionally clean. The practice has an onsite lab. Throughout my pregnancy, ultrasounds were conducted in-office by my physician. I really like the onsite lab and ultrasound services for the convenience of not having to schedule/attend additional appointments. That said, the practice doesn't hesitate to refer out when necessary; for example, during my 20-week pregnancy anatomy scan, there were a few views my doctor wasn't able to obtain due to my baby's position, so I was referred to a perinatologist for additional ultrasound. At my very first new patient appointment, I met with my doctor (Dr. Culbertson) in his office to talk about my medical history, reproductive plans, and raise questions/concerns before I had my exam. This is the first time I have had this experience, and I really loved this approach, as it was significantly more comfortable having a conversation in this type of environment, as opposed to awkwardly getting to know a new provider while sitting on an exam table in a paper gown. At every single appointment I have always been asked, "what other questions or concerns do you have?" and in every single instance I have been afforded the opportunity to keep talking/asking questions until I didn't have anything left to discuss or ask. So often as a patient it feels like time with the physician is rushed; this is not the case at Midtown OBGYN. I have found the physicians of Midtown OBGYN to always provide helpful and balanced information to help me make an informed decision about my medical care. For example, Dr. Culbertson helped my husband and me weigh the pros and cons of genetic testing by providing us with facts and statistics about the various testing options, as well as some questions for us to consider to help us determine if we wanted to proceed with additional testing; he didn't try to persuade us to make a decision one way or another. When I ultimately needed a scheduled c-section due to our baby being breech, Dr. Culbertson spent a significant amount of time talking with us about the procedure, possible short and long terms risks/complications, what to expect during recovery, etc. Talking through these things and knowing what to expect helped put our minds at ease and be as prepared as possible. read more

I have been going to Midtown OBGYN since 2018. I am a physical therapist at a nearby hospital and Dr. Culbertson came highly recommended by several of my colleagues when I was searching for an OBGYN. He has delivered so many of the rehabilitative staff's babies that we joke he needs to have an office in our building. Dr. Culbertson is an excellent doctor who is intelligent, highly personable and takes his time with you. He is genuine and makes sure to listen and answer all of your questions. I felt very confident and comfortable with the care he provided. I really appreciated the education he gave and options he presented. He was my doctor for my 2 sons, even though he did not deliver either one his group makes sure that you are acquainted with the other physicians who are almost as great at Dr. Culbertson ;) Dr. Lythgoe delivered both boys and he was great. The physicians communicated effectively and I was happy with my care throughout my delivery as well as postpartum while in the hospital. Throughout my pregnancy Dr. Culbertson made sure to take all of the proper precautions as I was advanced maternal age with my second and had preeclampsia while in labor. I also had postpartum complications and he was very responsive to all of my questions and needs. While my family is now complete I will continue to see him for my well women's exam each year and gynecological needs. read more
