This should actually be a 1/4 star. They had us standing in 113* weather for OVER AN HOUR!!!!! When we finally make it inside we were treated like segregation was still in effect. Why would you stick our party in the back whete we can't even see the stage. But people who were in line behind us were given better seats and your response as the manager was "I personally send an email offering upgraded seating for bottle service". Working in the service industry myself this us not an acceptable response. Your system is flawed. Provide more VIP options, make a center section upgraded seating instead of general admission. I will let everyone I know in AZ: DO NOT GO TO TEMPE IMPROV COMEDY DURING THE SUMMER you may passout from heat stroke!!!!! Also if you do not get VIP seating then you are screwed over for seating options. read more

I've been going to Tempe Improv for years. I was treated very inconsiderately by the man hating staff this evening. Paid a lot for my tickets and politely asked if I could be reseated at a seat where I could eat at instead of a free standing chair. They told me off then proceeded to ask the people behind us if they wanted a chair with a table or to sit somewhere else. When asked why they did that they directed me to their manager who was even more of a man hater. I can't wait for you to hemorrhage money this summer. Comment to the manager - you should try to improve your customers experience not make it worse. And the food is normally bad and the restaurant wouldn't be in business if they didn't make you order two drinks. And ambiance is mess hall on a ship. I will be making sure everyone knows how bad this place is on every platform I'm on and this all could have been so easily resolved. Thanks for ruining my night and stealing my money. read more

We've been to a couple of other comedy clubs in the Phoenix area and finally decided to go to the Tempe Improv on a Saturday night. Chris Titus was here and we had heard really good things about his show so we had high expectations. We didn't pre-purchase tickets, just got them right at the door. They were a bit slow in this process for whatever reason, however we had gotten there early enough so it wasn't a big deal. We were seated in the middle area towards the back so we had a pretty good vantage point of the stage. The middle/big isle was behind me so I didn't feel cramped. I'd definitely recommend getting there about a half hour or so early, if not earlier, because the tables started filling up really fast after we got there. I imagine a lot of the shows are just as popular as the one we went to and fill up in the same way. I definitely enjoyed the show! Chris Titus is a funny guy. If you're not a fan of kids or don't mind poking fun at parenthood, this is definitely a good show for you to see! Additionally, the service during the show was good. We were greeted upon arrival and ordered drinks right away. Since there was a two drink minimum, we made it easy and told our server to get us a round of the same thing when he came by halfway through the show. I think it would definitely be a good idea if you want something different than what you originally order to just tell your server beforehand. There were some people a few seats away from us who were have a conversation multiple times with the waiter while the show was happening. It was a bit distracting to us as well as others around us. Keep in mind this ends up being a fairly expensive date night. It was $50 for 2 tickets ($25 each), and the specialty cocktails were about $70 (2 drink minimum, so 4 total drinks each at $14 plus tax & 15% gratuity automatically added). I'm sure there are other options that satisfy the 2 drink minimum at a much lower price though. It was a fun experience for us, so we'll return. read more

Was uncomfortable about how close people were in there. Maybe move the table a little farther apart. COVID is not over yet despite what Doug Ducey says. Did not enforce masks in the club. Be prepared to pay high dollar for drinks. Non alcoholic drinks were $10.00 a piece. It was supposed to come with 2 passes for a future show. But we didn't get ours. read more

I never thought I would give a comedy house such a good review but I am. The improv is a great place to meet friends or a first date. The improv was pretty big but you sit very closely next to people so make sure you wear deodorant and have on clean clothes, elbow room isn't a options. Now.... For the mediocre food and the $$ drinks. There is a two drink minimum so you still have to spend money on top of the $35 per person tickets. Three drinks and a small bowl of French fries cost $56.... Yeah!!! I said it correctly. We had great seats and the crowd was awesome! It was Arsenol Hall as the comic last night and to my surprise he was extremely funny. He sure wasn't the late night host I remember on television who didn't curse and wore suits. His delivery was on time and the audience was captivated by every joke he said. I would visit The Improv again but it would have to be one of my all time favorite comedian's before I'm dropping that kind of $$ again. read more

You know, it's a comedy club. The food and drinks aren't very good. It's fine. That's not why you're there. But how great would it be if they really made the effort to have good food and drinks? If the food was good, I might go more often for artists I don't know so well. As it is, I have to really want to see the comic, cause I know nothing I eat or drink is going to taste very good. I've had good service sometimes, and lousy service others. The room is pretty awkward, I've never felt like I have a comfortable view of the stage there, I'm always at a weird angle or at the very back. If it weren't for the talented people they present, this place would have a hard time staying in business. Hope they pay the talent well. read more

Venue itself was good. However I have to share an unpleasant interaction with service. My wife did not want a second drink so we declined a 4th alcoholic drink. As we had ordered food items I don't see how this is such a problem. Waitress and then later male manager forcefully mandated we get another beverage. He also threatened to "have us removed" if we did not agree to another drink to meet the 2 drink minimum. Not only was this disruptive for everyone around, we never even received the liquid death drink that was charged against our agreement. I asked for his name and card but he refused to provide either. Things started off great, before the show started our server Becca came and took our order, we had drinks, both of us had food. The pretzel bread was a little hard on one side but the walnut raspberry salad was actually quite good. The comedian Craig Shoemaker was hysterical. The server Becca never came back when our drinks were empty never asked us if we wanted anything else, the show is now almost over and she approached us, but we couldn't hear anything she was saying it was so loud in there, and then She just walked away. Minutes later a guy named Tyler came aggressively to our table and told us we had to leave!! We didn't understand what he was even talking about as we had been following all the rules and having a good time at the show. He raised his voice shook his phone at us saying if we didn't leave he would call the cops !?! When we asked what the problem was he said we need to place another order or he will throw us out.. We said OK, and he started raising his voice again saying he's bringing security and removing us .. all this drama because he THOUGHT we said NO) it was so loud there was obviously an error in communication. We stepped outside to the hall and he began to threaten us, mind you this whole time we have not raised our voices, we have not put up an argument, we were in shock! We asked to speak to a manager. The manager Zach takes us outside now to hear our side of what happened. He went back in to talk to Tyler. Zack came back out to us and said he didn't want to "take sides", and that YES he believes their was a communication issue on HIS STAFF'S part! He apologized & offered to let us back into the show and said we could either order another round or NOT. He was fine with whatever we wanted to do. (I'm sorry we were dragged out, we missed the last half of the show, we were treated poorly, yelled at all because we didn't spend enough money and NOW we can just go back in and order if we "want too") NEEDS to be said this night went down hill Fast, from a timid server, poor customer service, poor management, & hostile employee! Wil who is security was calm, collected and he also stated he didn't believe we had caused an issue. He was the only one who knew how to be professional. Sadly the show was not sold out and not even 3/4 full. so for them to be throwing people out, especially over a silly misunderstanding and then not offer to compensate in some small way for the inconvenience to the customer and the whole ordeal took up most of the comedians remaining time so to offer us to go back in to sit down and get ready to get back up again because we missed it all made no sense . This shows Zacks lack of professional management skill. We will look up that comedian, Craig Shoemaker and find him at another venue so we can thoroughly enjoy his show. read more

Seating is horrible. I couldn't see over the people seated in front of me. I'm super short and they were unusually tall. Showing up early doesn't mean you get a decent seat. We weren't allowed to move. The hostess wasn't very friendly at all. I WILL NEVER BE BACK to this comedy club and I love comedy clubs but not this one. The comedians were good. Waitress very nice. Staff was nice and attentive to sit you and taking drink orders. Sat by the stage and it was a awkward view but we were close enough to the stage, get there early to get the best location possible. My friends and I came here New Years Eve to see Rob Schneider. He did an awesome job, we all really enjoyed the show. The food and drinks are overly priced, which makes you want to eat before you go, because the quality of the food is not worth what they charge. I'm not saying the food is bad, it just needs to be priced for what it is actually worth. Also, one problem we had was that we ordered a side of fries with our other food we ordered. The fries never came. We mentioned this to our server, Jackie, and she said she was so sorry and she would have them taken off our bill. We said thank you, and assumed she would still be bringing the fries to us. Time passes by and still no fries, so we say something again. She said I took them off your bill so they were never made. So we were a little annoyed with this, because we still wanted the fries, but at that point, the show was almost over so we just said forget it. We came here once before and the comedian wasn't funny. We came again last night because we knew the comedian was hilarious (and he was)... We were the first people there to pick up our tickets. We were the second people in line and waited and hour before the doors opened so we could get front row seats. Because we had 3 in our party they made us sit in the very back. Then they sat a party of 3 by the stage immediately after. We were sat next to the cashier stand and the staff and two customers talked through 1/3 of the show. Why did I wait in line at all to sit in the very back? Why did they make us sit in the back but right after sat another party of 3 right at the stage??? Honestly I'm just done with this place. I'd rather drive 5 hours to California in a weekend and go to a better comedy club. Tempe Improv is not worth it. read more

The seating is an issue. They sell seats with your back to the stage. You need a chiropractic adjustment after the show having to sit in the wrong direction while you try to see. Its usually a good time unless you get one of these shitastic seats. I normally only use Yelp to help small businesses but this is just ripping people off. read more

While the staff is great, the apparent GM (Chad Reyna) is a jerk. He asked us to leave for having a phone out texting the sitter to check on our kids. He assumed that we were filming the show when the artist hadn't even started the set and the phone was my in my lap. We spent $120+ on tickets to a show (about an hour before the show) another $100+ on drinks and food for 4 ladies. Interesting they decided to tell us to leave after we paid. I got the email for the "info@tempeimprov.com" after requesting the info for the owner. We shall see if they respond. We are all appalled since this has never happened before and we demand a refund! If not, StandUp Live will be where we go from now on. That's where I previously saw this act and have his personal cell phone so I didn't need to record his act! read more

I have to admit I am a bit surprised at the review star rating for Tempe Improv. One thing I was a bit confused by is that our tickets read that the show began at 8:00 pm however, the time listed on here for when Tempe Improv opens, was 8:00 pm. Unfortunately, whether it's true or not, because it was listed, we didn't even go and check if the doors were opened. We just went to a different establishment to order a few drinks prior to. It's a shame really because we could have easily put that money in at their little bar in the front. I can't review the bar portion of the establishment because we went straight to our seats. The place is pretty small, as it seems most of the local comedy spots are. I like it. I feel like I'm up close even if I'm not right up close. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. At no point was I upset in waiting for her to come back and check on us. In reviewing our bill, I suppose I was a bit surprised at the total cost. However, after a bit more consideration and drink counting, I realize we drank a fair bit and the prices averaged about $8.50 a piece. Not bad really. I did order a cocktail which I try not to do in fear of a nonexistent poor, that was not the case on this trip either. I definitely had alcohol in my mixed drink! As one would expect. All in all the comic was entertaining the service was acceptable and we all laughed and laughed and had a great night! A final note, when I went to the washroom I liked that I was still able to hear what was going on inside. I'll be more likely to keep an eye out for other performances coming up here. read more

The only picture I was able to snap before a man with a long ponytail came to tell me no more flash or photography period with no salutation or greeting. This also after being almost knocked down by a waiter who cut my of while following the hostess to my seats. The seats were great, showing up late was beneficial because we were seated along the wall in the booth seating which was slightly elevated. There is a two drink minimum for every patron, they don't have hot chocolate and I don't drink coffee so I ordered ginger ale with no ice, the waiter asked if I wanted an endless pitcher (say no) it was $13...I said no ice and that is all I got in this pitcher of ginger ale. I also ordered the chocolate cake which was delicious but was either refrigerated or frozen beforehand and decorated with slices of strawberries and chocolate shavings. $10 is a bit much for a slice of cake but it was pretty big, he could've offered to wrap it up because I was clearly not able to finish it. The restroom was clean but as usual only 3-4 stalls when typically women are the majority.. So there was a line. I would return but I don't know that the comedians they have are my cup of tea but Taccara and Ralph were hilarious! My rating is more so the staff than anything. read more

Steve Bryne put on a great show tonight here at the Tempe Improv! He described his life as an Asian American with a boat load of jocularity bringing us to tears with laughter. He covered politics (which, btw, his Trump impersonation was the best that I have ever seen), poked fun at some of us in the audience and brought about laughter as it relates to racism. This impressive performer has been on a lot of shows, Jimmy Kimmel, the Late Late show just to name a couple. To top off, his ending to his show by bringing up some good sport guys from the audience to join his "Boy Band". I, myself, tried to draw attention to my hubby by waving and yelling in hopes to get him up on stage. Unfortunately, this backfired badly for me as somehow, I got selected to be on stage to receive lap dances from these gentlemen. it was a great time! On top of the entertainment being superb, Tempe Improv is a great venue with an exceptional service. I enjoyed our featured drink, Cherry Vodka Ginger Ale. With our drink order, we got to keep our glasses and also received another pass to come again! Thank you Yelp for organizing this fun Elite experience! read more

My s/o and I got free tickets to the AZ Improv Festival earlier this year, and although Paul Brittain and Andy St. Clair were amazingly funny (and the openers had some good lines here and there), it wasn't a great experience. As people have mentioned before, the seating layout is strange and uncomfortable. We had no say in where we wanted to sit, and although we were pretty close to the stage (which was nice), we had a hard time talking to each other (because we were much closer to strangers than to each other), and I kept brushing up on my neighbors because I'm fidgety and awkward. Our server was nice, and checked on us often. We were aware of the 2 drink minimum (though not aware of how expensive they would be--gee whiz), and she helped us pace by coming over around halfway through the show to remind us to get our second drinks and also brought our bill over before the show ended, so that we would be ready to go when the show ended. However, she was also pushy at times, and again, the food and drink was way too expensive to be worth it. But then again, this was my first experience at a comedy show that wasn't hosted in the basement of my college's student center, so my standards may be a little off. The club itself is fine and I've been there many times with good experiences. However last night was the first time They asked us to lock up our electronics during the show. So they made me lock up my phone and my I watch. Reasoning was they don't want people recording the show and posting on you tube. Makes sense sure, but there's plenty of other shows and productions that happen and they don't take peoples phones. Go about it another way. My kids were at a parent night out and I am not comfortable not having access to my phone or my watch that can't even record their show for the safety of my kids. In addition now now days with all the shootings they have now taken away our way to call 911. read more

We came a bit late and were seated way in the back corner, but we still had a good view of the stage, and they have screens too so you can see it all. I went here Friday for Ari Shaffir. Was really looking forward to going. Ari was great and the only reason for the 2 stars. Opener sucked but that's not their fault. The seating is terrible as the majority of the inner tables are arranged in one long table so you sit across from your date, squeezed awkwardly between random people and then have to spend the whole show turned completely sideways uncomfortably close to the person beside/in front of you. On top of that, worst drinks I've ever had. Tried 3 different cocktails. Never got better. Old Fashion is basically well whiskey straight unless you wait for the ice to melt. $87 bill for 6 drinks! I guess when you require at least 2 drinks to be bought, you don't have to care about the quality. Just watch comedians on Netflix read more
