We got 2 sandwiches and 2 desserts. The filling in the sandwiches was great but the bread was okay and I wish it was a bit crunchier. The sweets were not great, the carrot cake was a little too sweet and the conch filling was great but the desert was a bit hard. The food was ready pretty quickly and we took it to go.

    Chicken Caesar Sub

Best Chicken Caesar Sub in Chicago!!! I love chicken Caesar wraps, subs, and salads and this is my #1! We ordered on a Sunday morning (lolla weekend) and it took about 20-25 mins, so not too long, but you can also order for pickup! Everyone working was friendly, and we took them home, but they do have a few tables outside. They also had a lot of treats, breads, and pasta sauces which is great to know for future visits!

Class is meatball sub that is tender making it easy to bite through the big size of the sandwich! Truthfully never ordered a meatball sub so I don't have much to compare it too but I did enjoy this and would come back to order. However, I now know to order what I'll eat since this doesn't make the best left overs! Great service as well, they're renovating but not letting that stop them!

    Vodka Parm Sandwich

Why 5 stars? Because I'll be thinking about the vodka parm for quite some time. --- --- --- My friend Issabelle recommended I visit D'amato's many moons ago, and I never forgot about it. I finally had the opportunity to stop in on my way back to the airport after a work conference and I'm so glad I did. The only issue with my plan is that I'd just had lunch a couple hours earlier and really wasn't ready to eat again. Plus, I'd probably be hungry again before bed if I ate "dinner" around 3pm, so I ordered my vodka parm and just let it hang out in backpack on my 70 minute Uber ride to the airport + another 20 or so minutes as I got through security and settled. And guess what? It was still amazing an hour and a half later? But yes, I absolutely took a couple bites when it was fresh and I truly fell in love. It's going to be hard to come back to Chicago without stopping in here. One of my favorite parts of the experience was after I'd gotten the sandwich and was hanging out inside waiting for my Uber for a few minutes. Hearing the most Chicago woman ever barking out, "waddya need", to each customer in that unmistakable midwestern accent... it actually made my sandwich taste even better. New York has the reputation for this kind of customer service, but don't sleep on Chicago! They're not being unfriendly - it's just their way.

The Chicken Vodka Parm was absolutely delicious--perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and that vodka sauce really made it. The Italian sub was just as good, fresh and packed with flavor. Everything tasted fresh and you can tell they put care into their food. Definitely recommend checking this place out. I'll be back for sure!

We tried both the viral vodka parm sandwich and the classic Italian. While we tried not to let the hype around this place set expectations too high, we still left a bit underwhelmed by the sandwiches. The Italian felt a little understuffed, and while the vodka parm was good, it didn't have anything that really pushed it to the next level. That said, D'Amato's is still absolutely worth a stop. Their fresh cannolis and homemade breads are fantastic. The cannolis are flavorful with perfectly crunchy shells and a generous filling. While they may not quite rival the cannoli scene in Boston, they're some of the best we've had in Chicago.

A wonderful Italian bakery with a great selection of baked goods. I ordered a vodka chicken sandwich which was a huge portion. It was fresh out of the oven and super tasty with fresh ingredients like the basil taste coming through. It comes with a bit of a wait and there is no seating in the shop.

Spectacular service as always! If you go in for a sub, you will leave with more than that. I'm vegetarian and their Veggie Sub is substantial and delicious!! Fresh ingredients and I love the interior of the shop.

I've been meaning to come here forever!! The vodka chicken parm was everything you could want in a chicken parm sandwich. Be sure to eat it right away, as it WILL get soggy quickly otherwise. Also highly recommend adding giardiniera:) they gave us free cannolis while we waited and those were super crisp and stuffed well

Another stop on the Chicago Italian Deli Tour, D'Amato's. I'd been wanting to check this place out for a while since it's over in River West close by to me and as someone from Jersey, I've got very high standards when it comes to Italian subs. I miss having countless delis around, so I had to see if this one lived up to the hype. Went on a Sunday afternoon and it was busy but if you know how an Italian deli works, it's not too hard to navigate. A bunch of people waiting around, tight space, classic deli chaos. I grabbed an Italian sub and a Diet Coke. The sandwich was only $10, which is a steal in the city. My order was ready in about 10 minutes, which was awesome given the crowd. Staff was super friendly, made ordering easy, and I decided to eat outside, they've got a nice little seating area out there. The sandwich itself hit the spot: fresh bread, solid balance of meats, and I went with hot peppers, which added the perfect kick and the portions were overall great. Overall, D'Amato's absolutely delivered. Great sandwich, great price, great vibes. Easily one of the better Italian subs I've had in Chicago would come back anytime.

Small, locally owned bakery in west town. D'amato's is a staple in the neighborhood and I'm glad I finally got to check it out for a weekday lunch. I called ahead to order the vodka chicken parm sandwich. It was delicious! Fresh basil, plenty of mozzarella, chicken cutlets, and good bread. I just wish it had a bit more sauce to dip it in. As soon as you walk in, the staff is very quick to help and take your order. They had plenty of Italian cookies and desserts, along with pizzas, focaccia, and other items. I will be back to try more!

Quick, friendly service, authentic Italian sandwiches and cookies. Chicago original Italian staple. We will be back to try the cannolis.

We came in on the coldest Saturday of the year so there wasn't a ton of people thankfully. I know how packed it can get in here. The service is pretty quick and they have an efficient system down where 2 guys take the orders and someone brings out the orders from the back. I got a vodka chicken cutlet parm sandwich and a chicken cutlet Caesar sandwich w chips. I also got a box of Italian cookies. All the food is very on point. In fact, I came back a few weeks later to get the same meal. The inside gives very classic Italian deli vibes. They leave their loaves of bread just in the front window, which I find interesting. Parking is not great here and it's often very packed so I only come here at odd hours when the weather is bad lol do as you wish though!

We ordered the pepperoni deep dish and the pepperoni tavern style. The deep dish arrives in a cast iron pan, featuring caramelized crust that edges on burnt for a perfect, crispy crunch. The base is thick and doughy, layered with some mozzarella, a tasty sauce, and slightly charred pepperoni. The tavern style provides a nice contrast. Served cut into squares, it has a solid thin crust that holds up nicely under some melted cheese and loads of flat pepperoni. This remains my absolute favorite deep dish in Chicago, and I go anytime I'm in town visiting. Pro tip: Make a reservation well in advance because walk-in wait times get incredibly long.

My sister made reservations ahead of time, so we got seated quickly on the 2nd floor. We did have to have the large booth cleaned as there was pop on the seats and lots of crumbs in the corners of the booth. Kinda not so cool when we got there at 11:30, shortly after they opened. We ordered a small salad, a large pan pizza (this is not deep dish people...it's more like a round Detroit style pizza) w/just cheese and a large tavern style w/half sausage and half pepperoni w/the pepperoni on top of the cheese. Service was good, if not slow. Of course, you have to wait for the pan pizza, but we knew that. The tavern style came out first, just as we ordered it and piping hot. While the pizza was good, the crust wasn't as crispy as we care for. It was super cheesy...so we got some good cheese pull there. The pan came out and looked good, but when it came to cheese pull, it left a lot to be desired. The caramelized crust is good, but the pan pizza was nothing that blew our socks off. Decent, yes, but not that noteworthy. Would i go back?? All i can say is i wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, but if i was near in a pinch, it would suffice.

It's my son's first visit to Chi-town so I think this is a good first meal. We got the Chicago meatballs so we can eat something as the deep dish pizza takes 30 mins. The meatballs are flavorful and filled us up until we get our pizza. We picked the Malnati's Chicago classic - medium. The butter crust is really good and the cheese to meet ratio is balanced. While it is deep dish - it didn't feel like it's super thick, I think the butter crust was the difference. It was quiet when we arrived and we were seated in the dining area by the back in the ground level. There was only 1 group and another couple when we arrived so it wasn't loud. I'm sure when it's peak hours it'll be more festive and busy. Great first meal - order some starters if you're hungry. We started with the calamari, which I really enjoyed. The batter was light and crispy without feeling greasy. We also shared the seafood pizza, duck prosciutto pizza, cup and char pepperoni pizza, and the gnocchi. All three pizzas were delicious, with very thin and crispy crusts. The seafood pizza came with a soup or broth that you could pour over it, which was nice and it also came with so much seafood. The cheese was slightly firm, but the pizza was still flavorful and enjoyable. The duck prosciutto had a noticeable duck aroma, melty cheese, and a rich, savory flavor. The cup and char pepperoni pizza was satisfying as well, especially the pepperoni with its crisp, curled edges. The gnocchi was another standout. It was satisfyingly chewy with a great texture and bold flavor. We finished with the tiramisu, which was light, balanced, and not overly sweet. Overall, the food was delicious and the waterfront setting made for a lovely dinner. I just wish we had been seated at a more comfortable table for our party size.
