The hours and days after his passing were a nightmare for us as we grieved our dad and had to also try and make sense of all the logistical items that came with his passing. Daniele Schott was our primary point of contact, but no matter who we spoke to over the phone or by email, we received prompt and compassionate guidance and responses. We weren't the most organized family they've probably had to deal with, and we are also bicoastal, but they were so flexible in making themselves available to meet virtually, by phone, or in-person and pivoted gracefully as we fumbled along. I'm really so very grateful to Sol Levinson & Bros for their care during those early days and even beyond through the provision of their Everything After grief and estate guidance program.

The day of my father's funeral took a turn for the worst upon our arrival at Woodlawn Cemetery…read more When we arrived at the assigned mausoleum, the vault workers were waiting for our arrival. The military honors were rendered and the funeral director prepared us for the casket/vault closing. The cemetery workers then began to just stand around without any explanation for about 10 minutes. Finally one of the workers announced that they forgot the caulk and that they sent someone to go get it and bring it to the site. Because it was extremely hot being in the open sun that day with temperatures well into the upper 90s, many of the friends and family got back in their cars and some left. After about 30 minutes, someone finally arrived with the caulk. There were about 4 family members who endured the heat and stayed. To make matters worse, the guy responsible for mounting the outer plate couldn't figure out how to work the reversible ratcheting screw driver! Even the funeral director said that he had NEVER seen anything like that happen in all of the years he has been in the funeral business. I will be reaching out to Mr. John Sockriter (manager) to express my utter dissatisfaction with their services. Also, the roads at the cemetery are horrible! They are very torn up and full of small and large pot holes. If you are going to use Woodlawn Cemetery, please read the reviews and discuss with your counselor.

He…read moreis a deeply arrogant and unpleasant man who lays off the most underpaid employees that have worked for him for years under the guise of "losing money" just to turn around and hire his daughter who just graduated college. When told that the road is full of potholes that get worse every year he will scoff in your face. He's not around to see them or drive over them, so why should he care? I wonder if he would feel the same way if the roads in his Potomac neighborhood looked the same way? Somehow I doubt it. It doesn't take a genius to see that every year the amenities and grounds get worse and worse while the prices get raised by hundreds of dollars (once they raised prices TWICE in the same year). They used to have events around the holidays for the local community and families of the deceased - they no longer do any of that. The sales manager, John Sockriter, is the most incompetent manager I have ever met in my entire life. He would literally sneak out the back door if he heard a customer asking to speak to a manager, letting the underpaid receptionist deal with all of the fall out of his sales teams poor customer service. He also once took home one of the Canadian geese from the cemetery AND ATE IT. Those geese live off of stale white bread and dirt, so that tells you exactly how smart he is. His subordinates have no respect for him because he sits upstairs on his phone all day and hasn't actually sold anything in years. He still brags about being number one in sales in 1995 and his office is covered in sad little "#1 in sales - 1997 third quarter" plaques (lmao). He can't write a contract let alone send a fax from the fax machine. A sales counselor was drinking on the grounds, getting into belligerent arguments with women on the staff and everyone knew about it, including him. He did nothing about it until they realized that counselor was also STEALING FROM CUSTOMERS and only then there were consequences. All three of the white managers are incredibly ignorant and actually quite racist which is very unfortunate considering the main customer demographic is the local Black community. The office manager, the grounds superintendent and sales manager are yes men to the owner and could care less about improving the experience of their clients or subordinates. They are completely out of touch with how their younger employees basically live in poverty if they don't get second AND third jobs. I am all for supporting small businesses but this is not one of them. Instead of investing in the cemetery, the owner uses it to purchase other cemeteries in different states instead of putting that money back into the cemetery. It's sad because it really could be a spectacular historical cemetery for the local community. They are running that cemetery into the ground and they simply don't care. This cemetery exemplifies exactly what is wrong with corporate capitalism today. Short term profits are king and everything else is a second thought. It's so bad that they haven't even been paying for their employees health insurance on time EVEN THOUGH IT STILL GOT DEDUCTED FROM THEIR PAY. When the owner was emailed about this issue he did what he always does - he completely ignored the email. That should tell you everything you need to know about him. 0/10 - I would not recommend this cemetery to my worst enemy.

When he finally passed it took one phone call and they were there at hospice to pick him up. They arranged everything including the military honor guard at the Baltimore National Cemetery. After my husband 's cremation they had everything ready for me to take him to the cemetery for internment. Celia, our funeral director, made decisions easy has she took her time and didn't rush me. From the…read morebeginning of our contact with Craig, he really went above and beyond for our family after the sudden passing of my dad. They were able to make my dad really look like himself and at peace as our family and dad's friends said their goodbyes at his viewing. This was our family's first time needing to plan arrangements for a loved one so close to us and Craig facilitated this process with ease. He was available 24/7 by phone even during the holiday to answer all of our questions (as well as friends calling the funeral home) and make sure that dad's viewings and arrangements for transport to California (for burial) were settled. He was extremely accommodating to all of our requests. He consistently checked up on us during each 3 viewings to make sure that things were going smoothly and to see if we were okay. Craig really showed his excellence for me when he stepped away from his own family and arranged a short time for my mom, sisters, and I to see my dad on Christmas Eve before my dad was flown to California. It meant the world to us, especially my mom. Furthermore, after the burial was completed, Craig called us to make sure everything went smoothly with the transportation.
