It was completely different than what we expected but still exceeded our expectations. I'm glad I looked online at photos of years past as many folks brought blankets, chairs, and event popup canopies to relax under. So definitely don't forget these items if you intend to make the afternoon as comfortable as possible. Pinot & Paella Festival is a local tradition. It's a smaller festival, capping out at about 500 tickets sold. Proceeds benefit local Youth Performing Arts, so you can feel even better about drinking that glass of wine. The park itself was a fabulous location. The large trees provided nice shade in the warm afternoon. Even with the temps capping out at 95, the shade temps with a nice coastal breeze didn't feel above the mid/high 80s. The vendors for wine were solid, but basic. The real star of the show was the paella. There were at least 15 different entrants into this Paella competition. Each one featured a different style of paella. Some were seafood based, one was vegan, others traditional. They all were delicious and amazing though. My only suggestion would be to provide nicer porta potties, and possibly more of them. Just two were not enough for the festival. There also didn't seem to be any security. Most of what I saw were folks wearing security shirts but were also eating and drinking at the event. It's a slower paced festival that is mostly made up of locals. I mean, it is a Sunday afternoon, after all. So if you're into a leisurely Sunday festival like this - by all means try it out. At the very least you'll leave stuffed with paella!

The VIP lounge was amazing! We had individual charcuterie cups to choose from. There was an amazing oyster bar from Morro Bay. The boys shucked 1000 oysters for us to enjoy. We had choices of two wine bar and a brewery. The next station was inside the building and it had lasagna tastings and froze with twenty other wineries. There was six outdoor sections with wine and food. My favorite was the Austin Hope ice cream and wine bar where they put olive oil and salt on the ice cream cups paired with our wine. I spun the wheel at Calcarious and won a pizza cutter and wine bag. Justin gave us pouring and a wristband for an after party. J Lohr gave us customized bandanas. The tuna tastings were delish! If you are to go to one wine event of the year this would be it! Amazing wine festival! Happy Yelping!

Discovering new vistas around every corner, with colorful LED light sculptures powered by solar panels, changing with the musical accompaniment? Come check out Sensorio! It's an innovative unique way to walk around outside and enjoy the fresh air while appreciating some life sized art installations. Appropriate for all ages! Glad to see the cleanliness of the whole grounds--there are multiple trash cans available along the winding gravel path, but also it seems the hundreds of people who visit from all over are respectful and don't litter. My favorite art installation was called Dimensions: metallic 3D geometric sculptures with lights casting shadows, some of which you can spin by hand to create new shadows, like a kaleidoscope.

So take your time, sip your wine or whatever, and then go for a walk. There are violet lights probably UV along the path to help you walk. The paths are CA6 gravel, and are fairly smooth. There was a high path and a low path - We needed steps, so we took both. There are bathrooms strategically placed so if you have to go while way out there, it isn't a problem. Look to the right of the toilet and push the foot pedal to flush. The bathrooms were clean. Two sections featured music, and as we were walking out there was a live jazz band playing. Don't forget to tip the band! We took around an hour. The path out is well marked and easy to follow. We were able to get back to the parking lot and found our car in the well-lit parking lot easily. This is good for kids and adults. Give it a go!

My wife walked up to someone outside Linne Calodo and asked if they could squeeze in two people for a tasting. They said yes. Best unplanned decision of the trip. Here is where it gets good. There is a guy standing outside and I casually ask if he happens to be with the winery. Turns out it was Matt, the owner and winemaker himself. What followed was essentially a private masterclass: he walked us through the entire winemaking process, took us into the main fermentation and storage room, did proper pours, and spent real time talking about Paso Robles and his philosophy behind his wines and the blends. No rush, no clipboard, no tour-group energy. And then he let us blend with him. Actually blend. Walking from barrel to barrel, making our own concoctions, like we knew what we were doing, which we did not, but Matt made it feel like we did. Easily the best hour we spent in Paso Robles. Possibly the best winery experience we have had in a very long time, and we have had a few. This place is the real deal, the kind of spot that reminds you why Paso Robles wine country is worth visiting beyond the Instagram backdrops. And why small family run wineries beat the big conglomerates when it comes to authentic wine making and tasting experiences. Thank you Matt. Go here. Make an appointment if you have to, or just show up and hope for the best. Both approaches apparently work. Though I would not recommend the latter

Once you get inside everything but merch is included so there is no other costs once you're there. The breweries here represent the best of the best. There will be lines for those places but there are plenty of other great breweries that had no lines and equally as good beers without the hype. Fidens was one of my faves and I visited their tent often to get a line beer for other popular spots. There are 4000 people here but you'd hardly know that from the efficiency and the way it is spread out. The food was so good too. One pizza spot just kept putting out whole pies to take slices from. The next day we went wine tasting at two rooms that charged $30-45 per taste! Given that $80 got me 8 "samples" of wine the cost for this all inclusive beer festival doesn't seem that outlandish.
