The store doesn't have an exact closing date but it won't be very long. Currently seasonal items are 60-70% off (some seriously cute Xmas décor and ornaments) and the remainder of the store is 20-30% off. They have really cute jewellery and unique items for special gifts. I really like their line of moon necklaces/bracelets where you pick the phase of the moon on a special date (birth, death, wedding, etc.) and can wear it as jewellery. I also like their sparkly Swarovski crystal bracelets, earrings, and necklaces. Some stuff here for sure can be found elsewhere or online for less but that's not the point of a boutique store. It's getting to go somewhere and browse through various collections to find the perfect gift for someone special. If you're a fan of s'well bottles, they still have a fairly good collection of unique ones and at 20% off you're paying a fair price for the designer s'wells. (Note you can get plain jane ones at Costco for $30) but the ones here are GORGEOUS and make me smile. They're collection of wrapping papers and tissues is extensive and are sure to be able to wrap your gift to fit any occasion or theme. Seriously gonna miss the Prettiest Present!

But at the Prettiest Present they really have a great variety of really useful gifts! From presents for those pooch peeps, to culinary and kitchen gadgets - as well as neat necessities. Then there are the baby gifts, the seasonal decor for your own abode, a wall of tempting teas and some really unique jewelry. And then the pies de resistance... they have the most fabulous collection of gift bags, gift boxes and paper so that when you find that perfect present you can also wrap it up without having to go to another store! Love it!! Although, I do not remember seeing ribbon or cards, I could be wrong, or maybe that's just asking for the moon. Pro Tip: Make sure to go into the basement! Often you go into a store like this and assume that down the steps is just a small smattering of a few other things. But in this case the basement is the majority of the shop. While other similar stores haven't survived until today this one was a great visit when we wandered Whyte Avenue with some visitors from out of the country and they picked up some unique souvenirs. The store is so filled with items that there's always something new to spot when visiting. It is perhaps hard to find what you're looking for if you only want to find something very specific but if you're open to finding new things this is a great option! The floor creaks when you walk in some spots and the decor and store itself is old but this adds to the charm. It can be overwhelming to visit (but sometimes this saves me some money).

There are many items that your family and friends will most likely get a kick out of. Most of it is for the female population though (as like most stores). The Plaid Giraffe carries Nine & Co. bags from Nine West, unique scarves, jewelry (wow, do they have jewelry), and other neat gift items. As I made my way through the store recently, one guy was browsing as well and, while his girlfriend paid for her brand new bag at the counter, he was picking up one item after another and saying "How sweet is this?!?" again and again. I have to admit, it was pretty amusing. But then, so is their selection. Among their items that will make you laugh and gasp are barbed wire toilet paper (TP with a barbed wire design on it) and -- get this -- a hair-coloring kit specifically for your "hair down there". I'm dead serious! I had never seen anything like it before. I mean, who does that? Not that I'm judging or anything ... hey, it's something new! But the colors available were electric blue, pink, and orange. Whoa, now there's somethin' freaky going on there! My favorite thing about the Plaid Giraffe though, is their jewelry, which is pretty much the inner half of the shop. They have it all color-coded, so there are your blues, then purples, and black and whites, and so on. Some of it is a little pricey, but it depends on what materials it has, right? I find that most of their earrings start at $9.99 and go up from there. They've also got a wide selection of those neat purse-hanger things that have been popping up everywhere. The idea is that you basically hang part of it on the edge of a table, and it has a hook that your bag can hang from. Your bag won't be on the floor and get dirty, and has its own place. The Plaid Giraffe also carries items that make great traveler gifts, if you are shopping for a globe-trotter. They have typical items like travel pillows, but with and fun designs, so they're not as boring. Anyway, that's just a peek at what they have in store. It's a really nice bag but it's a couple of years old now and the store no longer carries one like it. They have some really nice other bags though but not like my friends so I, personally, wasn't really interested. I did like their cute wallets made from different colored leather with fun designs or patterns on them. They have a lot of accessories. Their whole back half of the store is devoted to accessories. I found some great earrings that I've been looking for at some good prices; one pair was $9.99 and the other pair (a pair of square ones; I actually don't own square shaped earrings!) for $11.99. They have a lot of really nice but not too expensive looking jewelry. Their store is really nice and net with lots of open areas so you can actually breath. The two girls that were working were really nice and super friendly. They let me look around in peace without bugging me or pressuring me to buy something; it was really nice to just to my thing.

I like how they offer a variety of feeders from Chinese manufactured metal and plastic to locally crafted and unique wood feeders and houses. In a separate part of the shop is the gift section. Here you'll find hats by Tilly Endurables, toys with a nature theme, some beautiful art work, books and puzzles. If there is anything else that bird enthusiasts might need - although I can't imagine what else that might be - I'm sure they can get it. There's usually a number of events advertised here such as guided tours to great locations for birding and photography. The people here have even saved me some money by showing me where the bulk bird seed is that's identical to the pre-packaged variety that I was considering buying. This is indeed a fine store.

Admittedly the prices are a bit high on certain things but if your concerned with getting quality goods as well as shopping locally from a store that really values your business I think it is worth it here. I was greeted by Wonder Woman (it was Halloween) and she was very friendly and helpful. She let me browse the store without pressure (which I really appreciate because some stores can put a lot of pressure on you to purchase). Other than Christmas decorations, Jilly's a bit of everything! There is clothing in the back (it's very expensive though - so expensive I almost choked on my gum). They also have numerous home decor items, candles, bath and soap products, they have a lot of stuff. The sale section towards the back of the store drew me in immediately (it had purses). It seemed to imply he was some sort of racist and without specifics I think sometimes people treat you purely because you're an asshole that happens to be "of colour". The reviewer was Indian and instinctively roped every single "colour" in aide of his cause, weirdly enough the shop assistant is Indian(leaning too) and he allegedly received the best service from her. So the review wreaks of bias from someone stuck on subjectivity. The author claims to be a designer, that has nothing better to do than try to destroy one of the last importers of quality paper and ink. This is sad to see. He cites being world travelled and online alternatives from industrial assassins like Amazon, yet if you actually worked with pen and paper, you'd know how ridiculous his assault is. High quality pen and paper isn't as available to us in Canada, let alone Edmonton as easily as he would purport. I wanted to set the record straight, as the darkest "of colour" there is no racism here. Those that seek power to dehumanize others, are cursed to walk the earth as a disgruntled customer that wants to pick a fight with someone that dedicated their life to paper and ink(medium), when he lost he decided to douse the place in kerosene. Don't be his match, support this great store. Nothing is more beautiful than archiving your thoughts in beautiful paper with the best of ink. Instead light a torch the algorithm cannot extinguish. Was also recently introduced to the world of watercolour painting and the expansive world of ink artwork - be it drawing, calligraphy, etc. I was so excited to try a new art medium that I had to go back and pickup a little starter kit (happy Xmas to me), which was also at a great price for the items inside! And best part about good quality ink is that it will last LOOOONG time as you only need a little at a time, and handle it with care and store safely as instructed I'm definitely going back in the future for some other ink colours once I put some practice into my new set
