Use quarters which is a plus for me ... (as opposed to putting money on a card that can only use at given location)

I work not far from this location and I come by here because the washing machines are way cheaper than my neighborhood of midtown Manhattan. The serves they offer other than washing are pretty limited and nothing to write home about. Also, the owner advises the staff not to answer the phones because they will not understand what you are saying (if you know what I mean). So don't bother calling. But if you want a good, cheap wash, then this is the place for you. read more

Neighborhood stores such as a laundromat require Community cooperation . Marty and the girls that work there work really really hard trying to do a good job to keep the place okay . But the world seems crazy than ever and we need to help them . Excessive soap creates a problem in the washers the clogs the hoses and causes bacteria and mold in the washing machines . As a community we need to work together to help them by not putting too much soap in the machines and doing our our part . I used to run the machines an empty so I could remove some of the excess soap . It got expensive doing laundry but my laundry came out really great . I wish we could clean up the machines and make it so they function better . But it won't happen unless we do it together . Besides too much soap is bad for the environment and your clothes . read more

I've been coming here for 3 months now and I think this is a great place to do your laundry. Granted I have the luxury of coming here on weekday mornings. I'm not sure what it's like at peak hours. Basically this place is always busy - machines are ran all day long for their wash and fold service. There are a few options for laundry $2.50, 4.50 and 5.50 depending on the size of loads. I live alone and have an active lifestyle and always seem to get enough laundry for the 4.50 machine. Dryers are a quarter for 7 mins I believe. Staff is always busy. There is one lady who can speak English and she always makes my experience enjoyable. The rest won't really talk to you as they are running the operations but that one lady will make sure you have everything you need. My first time she told me how much time my dryer needed. Another time the spin cycle on a machine didn't work and she helped. And then another time she helped break my notes into smaller amounts. Great experience all around read more

Mold. It's in all of the washer's fabric softener compartments. Just lift up the #3 flap on any of them and you'll see the mold. It's in every single one of them. I guess no one has ever cleaned it. No need for you to apologize to me Samuel L, owner of this place, as you have done with other low star reviews. Apologies don't clean mold. You clearly don't have cleanliness in mind when you expose your staff and customers to these conditions. This is a result of months, maybe years, of lack of care on your behalf. So unless your reply is something along the lines of "I'm cleaning it right now despite not doing so in the past" then prepare for a Yelp battle! There are 64 dryers here. Exactly 40 were occupied by lazy rich people who dropped off their clothes when I arrived at 8:30pm. Most of these 40 were done spinning but the 2 sole people working here were not tending to them. Is this how you envision your clothes being cleaned by someone else? I had to ask one of the workers to take clothes out of one of these drop-off dryers so I could occupy 2 dryers next to each other. Now it's 10:30pm and 30 of the 40 dryers with drop-off clothes have been sitting here idle for almost two hours. Why am I still here? Because these dryers don't dry efficiently. Why are all the drop-off clothes still sitting in the dryers too?!?! Oh I just looked up. Ceiling fans have large amounts of collected dust. I think there's mold all over the ceiling too. And 22 cameras. Wow. The owner invested in 22 cameras and thought they'd make a nice addition to the mold, dust, and dryers that consume too many quarters. Btw if you prematurely stop the dryers to check on your clothes they still rotate for 5 seconds. So if you don't have a cart below to catch your shooting underwear then it's going all over the floor. My clothes never dried completely but I gave up at 10:50pm and took out everything. Some of my clothes managed to come out feeling like cardboard and still damp. This laundromat either needs a new owner, or needs to be demolished. read more

I don't know why the worker has a bad attitude. I'm not sure if it's with me or was just having two bad days in a row. I came in a said hi barley got a response back. First when I came to drop off my clothes I had to weigh it myself fine it was 22 pounds no problem. I'm like ok everyone has a bad day. Now I come into pick it up and the same type of attitude i was deep into my phone but the high pitch SIR all she had to do was say can I have your receipt. I don't mind the workers not being able to speak english well but having their 7-8 year old son input the wrong price for my dry cleaning is a problem! I was charged a dry cleaning fee for a lined pant but what i had was an unlined pant. I showed them their mistake when picking up but the lady kept saying she cant do anything as she wasn't the one who put the price in the system! Why does it matter who put it in when the receipt clearly had a mistake of charging for lined pant and the pant she pulled for me was unlined? Everyone just make sure to check your receipt as soon as you give them your item because once you leave, they wont change anything even if they are at fault. read more

Very nice and spacey Laundromat. There are TVs available for you to watch the news or sports. First laundromat that I've seen where the washers are timed. Most washers are not. There are double, triple and giant loaders. The double loaders are $2 for once wash, the triple washers are $3.75 and the giant washers are $4.75. Pretty expensive to wash in Astoria if you need a washer bigger than a double. The only reason why I'm in Astoria is because my apartment is being renovated and I needed to stay somewhere that's affordable. This is quite a walk from my hotel as I needed to walk down to Walgreens (one block away) to purchase detergent and fabric softener. The fabric softener and detergent in the laundromat are pretty expensive, so stop at your local drug store to purchase the more affordable items. The dryers are $0.25 each for eight minutes. I don't think I'll be spending more than $3.25 here. They're actually much cheaper than the laundromat in my apartment building. I definitely recommend stopping by here if you're in the area. The owner is very nice and helpful and will assist you with any inquiries you might have regarding the washer and dryer systems. EDIT: A nice woman gave me her washer to use. Very nice of her to do! Tenchodo Laundromat - My washer at 17 minutes til it's finished! - Laundromat Near Me - Astoria, New York

Great (for a laundromat at least). Tons of machines, the double washers are only $1.75 and triple washers are $3.50. There are a few even larger washers than that. Tons of dryers too and 8 minutes for a quarter. Never been too crowded when I've been there and I've always been able to find a machine. They actually have staff people there which was nice, since today a machine wouldn't take our last quarter to start the load. A man working there asked if we needed help and came over immediately and opened the machine and fixed it for us. There's free wi-fi, although I can't attest to how good it is since I've never used it. There are some chairs in the front along the window and in the back left corner there is a room with some tables and chairs, arcade-type games and two (overpriced) snack/drink vending machines. There are a bunch of huge fans so while it's never *chilly* it's not as uncomfortable as other places. There are a few change machines, which I've never seen out of order. Never seen a broken washer or dryer yet either, although a few are reserved only for staff. There are a lot of laundry carts and tables available. They apparently also do wash and fold service here but I've never used it. Only a few complaints: -There's no place to buy one-load-sized detergents (vending machine style) that I could see. They do sell smaller bottles of regular detergents/bleaches/softeners at the staff window, but they looked pretty overpriced. You're probably better off going to the Walgreen's down the block if you need detergent. -No "normal sized" (like home sized/small load) washing machines. The smallest is the double sized washer. I don't mind this too much though since the double sized ones are only $1.75 anyway, which is the same price I pay for the crappy washers in my building here and the small washers at my old laundromat upstate anyway. -There is a bathroom but it was kind of gross. I can't complain too much since a lot of laundromats don't even have bathrooms. But there was no soap, although there was toilet paper and paper towels. May have to get a key from the staff. read more

I like this laundromat because it's big, the washers have good features and a number of washing options, and it's open until midnight. Beware some of the dryers suck. Dryer #28 will eat your quarters and only give you 8 minutes even if you put in more than one quarter. Dryer #30 doesn't not dry your clothes as well as other dryers, you will have to add more quarters and dry for longer. read more

Do not use this laundromat for drop off!! This laundromat is ok if you're going to do your laundry yourself. But I've been using drop off on and off for about a year now with Tenchodo and I have a shopping bag full of items they've ruined. Several of my nice hoodies have had the zipper pulls ripped off. I've had jeans come back missing the front button. One of my cute workout tank tops used to have mesh sides; those mesh sides were torn up to shreds. It seems to happen regardless of me putting things in delicates bags or even in pillow cases to protect them. I've used a lot of laundromats and haven't had issues like this before. I think it's time to start using another laundromat, and if you use this place for drop off, make sure they aren't ruining your clothes!! read more

They are extremely greedy and the machines are just absolutely disgusting, they have mold when you open them they smell disgusting and they don't even wash your clothes properly. After the past experience this weekend I will definitely not be coming back and I will be filing a consumer report against them. DO NOT GO HERE. I implore you. First off, I echo the mold comments. Having gone here since 2018, I had to inspect each washer machine before use to ensure there was no mold/funny odors. Worse, the customer service here is crap. Also echoing comments, the Hispanic woman who works here always has a scowl on her face. When I've used their filthy restroom asked for soap (because, yes, the restroom was completely out of soap every time I used it...hello, Coronavirus) she pointed me toward the sink on the opposite side across from the bathroom. Uh, maybe actually change the bathroom dispenser? The last straw was when I picked up a load of clothing last minute (had to do four cycles of clothing instead of my usual two). I walked in at 10:57, they were closing at 11:00. As I was removing my last few garments, someone else working with her (who I believe was her son or grandson) motions at me in agitation, "Could you hurry up?" My phone says 11:01. I've gone here over 50 times, never once picked up laundry late or made any kind of an issue, but with their cut hours (usually close at 11:30) I'm...one minute over and I get that kind of treatment? I told the lady that was extremely rude of the guy and if they thought it was fine to disrespect customers like that, I wouldn't be returning. Her response? "That's okay, don't come back." Sure, I know...they wanted to leave early. Not at closing time. The owners might think to get this woman training? Or a replacement. I stopped by here while visiting friends in Astoria over the Holidays. This is a great place to get Laundry done while traveling, as there are a ton of machines with helpful staff. The TV's in the back and available wifi are a definite plus. This was one of the closest places to me, so even though I was hesitant after one reviewer said there was mold, I gave it a shot anyway. I don't know what he is talking about, as the entire place was clean and obviously has been well taken care of. read more

I've lived in this neighborhood for years and this used to be my go-to laundromat, but this place has definitely gone downhill fast. They put way too much priority on drop-off customers to the point where they're taking up nearly every dryer and cart. The first 8-10 dryers on each wall have always been reserved for Staff Only, but whenever I come in during the day, 90% of the dryers meant for self service customers are being used by staff. If there are 30 dryers on a wall, 26 of them will be in use by staff. Nearly every dryer will have a ticket on it for some Drop Off order. The last two times I've used this laundromat, I've had to wait for a dryer, then carry my wet laundry in several armfuls across the laundromat because all of the carts are just sitting there, full of Drop Off laundry, waiting to be folded by an employee. This used to be my go-to place because of the abundance of machines meant never having to wait, but now (let's face it) they're putting wealthier customers (who can afford drop off service) over lower class customers who do their own laundry. Time to switch to a new place. read more

Machines are great, customer service sucks. The spanish guy gave me attitude over me asking for help over a quarter that got stuck in the machine. It's a laundromat that's clean and the machines work and it's usually not very crowded and the people who work here are nice. I used to do drop off all the time and was happy with their work. Now i'm trying to save money and i do my own laundry and it's ok. If you live near here i don't think you'll find a better place. read more

you know that episode of friends where ross has to teach rachel how to do her laundry? oh gosh, she was so naive in those early episodes. then she gets into a fight with another lady in the laundromat, but eventually ross encourages her to stand up for herself? it's so romantic and empowering. that's how i often fantasized my time at tenchodo would be. well, since i know how to do laundry, i figured i could at least flirt with some single guy washing his boxers. he'd complement my speedy sock matching and folding, and i'd remark that i liked the color of his sheets. it would be totally amazing. yeah, that's not what going to tenchodo is like. at all. instead of rippling young men, mostly the laundromat is full of moms and their infinity screaming children. the TVs are nice, but usually playing incredibly loud soap operas or spanish shows. there are three sizes of washers - big, bigger, and biggest. i recommend washing all your shit together in the biggest washer. that's something like 17 quarters. the signs are very clear about how much you'll be paying. when you move over to the dryers, they're 8 minutes per quarter. once all the washing and drying is done, there are plenty of clean folding tables. there are a few other amenities at this laundromat. they do dry cleaning, and you can drop your wash off. also there are change machines, and candy/toy vending machines. there's this great one on the north side that never shuts the hell up. "THERE'S NO LIMIT TO WHAT YOU CAN WIN!" you should use the machines on the south side to avoid it. as far as laundromats go, this one is pretty good and i like it, even if there's no chance of an astoria abstersion affair. read more

The place is clean and bright and there is a waiting room where you can sit down and use their WiFi. There lots of machine so I never have to wait no matter what date and time I come in. Our #1 laundromat. When we moved to the area, we tried the one by Bakeway on Broadway and HATED it. This one is a breath of fresh air- worth walking a little further. We always drop ours off instead of doing it ourselves. The people who work here are the best. They are always smiling. They always remember our details. We have a shirt that we always want hang dried and they always do it, even if we don't remind them. They hang up all buttoned shirts, without question. They remember we like "Tide and Downy"- an upgrade in detergent. For the most part, they finish our laundry in 24 hours. Once or twice, it has taken a little longer but it was definitely at peak times. There was some confusion one time and they thought they lost one of our clothing items. Turns out, they hadn't. But they called us so fast, so apologetically, and so frantically. We were so appreciative that they would care so much. I highly recommend this place. read more

Yes, this is the best coin-op laundromat in Astoria. Lots of machines, plenty of chairs and tables for folding, soap and bleach starting at 75 cents. The whole place was very clean and world cup was on TV. Arcade games and vending machines make it fun to wait for your spin cycle to complete. 4 stars instead of 5 because one of the arcade games was out of service, and because there's always room for improvement. The woman who worked there was really quite friendly and helpful, although she didn't speak a whole lot of English and my Spanish is pretty bad as well, we were able to communicate effectively. Came here after sudz closed down and loved it. Very big and no wait for washers or dryers even on weekends. Crowd is pretty good no rowdiness. There are seats and 2 tvs to watch while you do laundry. Never had a problem with money being stuck or machine not working. Maybe a tiny bit costlier than my previous laundromat but well worth it. read more

It's everything a Laundromat should be. Plenty of Washers and Dryers. The average load will cost you 3.75 to wash and .25 for every 8 minutes in the dryer. My total cost is usually about 5 bucks when all said and done. There's an ATM and machine that will turn your dollars into quarters all the way up to 20 bucks. They say they have WiFi but I couldn't find any free connection or password. I'll have to lookout for that. I've never been during a "rush" but maybe they don't have one will all the supplies they have. read more

I came here after searching for a laundromat in astoria with parking and found its rave reviews so thought I would try it. No parking lot so not sure why it comes up when you do the search. It's website claims plenty of on street parking which they mean if it's not a Monday or Friday possibly! Plenty of machines however they are almost all being used by the staff for drop off or laundry service so you can't even get to a dryer. A huge thing for me is air conditioning which they do not have on and are using ceiling fans in the heat of the summer...awful for customers and the poor people that work here...will be going back to my small location on 34th ave. read more

Pretty dissappointed with there drop off service and dry cleaning. To Samuel L --- I am modifying my post and will be in your establishment soon to discuss in detail. However, I will say: 1. Do you know your own procedures - shirts & pants are giving seperate tickets. Therefore, it was 2 tickets 1. For 15 shirts at $2 a shirt 2. For 9 pants at $3 per pants 2. I didnt come in to discuss anything because I thought it would have been useless and staff would just deny or I would have been more frustrated at the end of our discussion. But I will admit wrong and maybe should have went and discussed the issues 3. Despite being signs indicating laundry will be ready 30 hours later --- there have been several occasions where I drop off laundry in the morning and your staff told me I can pick it up in the evening. 4. i don't like washing my clothes in laundromat be'cuz I hate the smell left on my washed clothes when i took my clothes out . it's soooo nice the ppl who work there clean the washing and drying machine quite often so there's no more stinky smell~ also, this laundromat has WIFI~~ u know waiting for the whole process of washing clothes is super boring, and now i finally can sit there to wait and have fun wif my lovely IPad~ oh, it has a game room too~ the supervisors seem to be very nice and take their businesses very serious, they do care about their customers, even kids~ overall, this laundromat is clean, huge,it has awesome facilities and most importantly they have very nice and responsible staffs and very good security to ensure every customers can have a fun and save environment to wash their clothes. My boyfriend and I had been loyal customers for 5+ years. We would drop off our laundry regularly and tip well. After my experience Tuesday morning, we will never be going back. A little over a month ago my jeans were lost. The owner's wife called me to explain the situation, I understood completely, they gave me $50 for the jeans and all was made right. Unfortunately that style of jean can no longer be made, so I had to buy a different pair. But that's fine, things happen, I was not upset. I went in Tuesday morning to drop off my laundry and they had found my jeans. ((remember over a month later!)) I was excited and so grateful! Then the owner appeared and told me I needed to pay him back the $50. At first I agreed and then thought better. Wait, I didn't know my jeans were going to be found and I still had to buy new ones. He started getting very condescending and told me I was wrong. He even went so far as to ask me to give him my jeans back. He started coming up with analogies to explain how I was wrong. "If you lost my shoes and you paid me for them, but then found them again, you'd want to be paid back." No, I said, it was my mistake and I would just give you back your shoes. He then huffed and said "fine! don't pay!" and turned away from me. I then said, you know what, give me my laundry back, I feel disrespected and I didn't like the way I was being spoken to. A nice woman who works there started to give me my clothes back and as my back was turned he came at me again to start arguing. He said HE felt disrespected and that he had done everything right. I was being yelled at by an owner of a business over $50 and a mistake his company made!! As a good businessman none of this should have occurred. I was in shock all day and still can't believe I was treated that way. Especially since they know me by name and I'm sure use to appreciate our business. Horrible owner!!!! Rude rude man!!! read more
