I moved to the neighborhood 3 months ago and it's been so difficult for me to find a great wash & fold service. I tried out 4 different companies and would always run into issues - clothes came back dirtier and with stains, I'd get charged extra for items I didn't even include in my order, they were often hours late in pick ups/drop-offs, or they simply wouldn't show up during the scheduled window of service, and customer service would be awful - one company straight up ghosted me. I gave each of them 3 chances before finding someone new. When I tell you that I'm SOOO happy that finally found Todd Layne Cleaners, that is an understatement! TLC has excellent customer service and are professional all around. Scheduling is a breeze, delivery guys are prompt in pick-up/drop-offs, AND my clothes are actually CLEAN. THINK TWICE BEFORE DRY CLEANING HERE I rarely write negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share this experience. I took this dress to Todd Layne Cleaners on E. 77th Street for the first time. This dress had been professionally dry cleaned several times in the past with no problems. When I picked it up, the color had been dramatically faded and the dress was clearly damaged. After I contacted the cleaner, it took Todd Layne two days to respond. His only explanation was that there must have been an issue with the dress manufacturer and that I should contact them directly. There was no acknowledgment of responsibility, no apology, and no attempt to resolve the situation. I'm posting before-and-after photos so you can see the difference for yourself. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Todd Layne Cleaners. ONLY GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO LOSE YOUR CLOTHING. So bad it's almost comical. I'm a shirt and jeans kinda dresser. So rarely use dry cleaners. But have never ever had problems with other dry cleaners. EVER. The first time I used Todd Layne was to dry clean the most expensive dress I ever owned. It was 20 years old and I loved its classy black dress look. Took it home, put it in the closet and because I didn't wear it often never looked at it. A year later, took it out for a wedding, packed it still in their plastic bag. Got to the wedding and it wasn't my dress. It was a cheap black dress, not even my size but because it had been so long I felt I couldn't complain. Figured it was a one time issue. WRONG! In 2022 brought in a beautiful, pricey Saks Fifth Avenue blouse (about 10 years old) and a new white shirt. They lost both though insisted they delivered them. There was no record at my very efficient building's concierge. I even checked neighboring buildings. Nothing. I submitted a form for some kind of compensation. As an aside they NEVER apologized. Two years later, though lots of promises to send the check they NEVER delivered the check just like they never delivered my clothes. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with this cleaner and will never be going back. This was my first time coming in to Todd and I brought in several items to get dry cleaned. More than half of the items that I brought in came back damaged. I'm attaching pictures here for reference. 1. They lost the button of my Alice and Olivia jacket and sewed in a cheap, clear button and never addressed this mishap upfront. The jacket also came back with less vibrant colors 2. My white pants came back with damaged fabric 3. The blue silk dress came back with damaged fabric and spots that were not originally there and 4. Blue cashmere scarf came back with spots and discoloration. I came back in to complain about my damaged items and they were unwilling to offer a refund, which would have been the minimum they could have done after damaging several items. Not only did they not refund me, but I also got yelled at by the female front desk associate. She even used the word "fuck". The entire experience was absolutely awful. I am taking precious time to write this review because I wouldn't want anyone to experience what I experienced. Save yourself 1. Your clothes 2. Your time 3. Your money and 4. Review is for self-service laundry only, I haven't tried any other services here. Wish they had better hours, no one can do self-service if you're open until 5pm daily and especially on the weekends. Honestly, I don't feel like the machines are that clean, always find big wads of hair (often from animals) stuck in the machine unfortunately. I have heard others in their saying machines have made their clothes dirty as well.That being said, closest place to where I am so I'm stuck. I like to do my own laundry. My usual laundry place was closed due to the pandemic so after my neighbor told me that Todd Layne was open, I decided to have them pick up my laundry. I paid the extra to have my whites separate and I picked Gain detergent along with the scent beads, dryer sheets and softener. You'd think you'd receive fresh smelling clothes right? Nope. My clothes came back smelling dirty and ALL of my white clothes came back pink. They charged me $117 and when I brought my dirty smelling stained clothes back them and confronted about the problem, they responded with "I don't know what you want us to do. You should have ya rewash them." Are you kidding? They ruined my clothes. Why would I have this place redo them? Instead of discounting or even refunding me, they charged. STAY AWAY. I must give them their do. Their laundry service is really quite good. The cleaning service not so much. The problem is with either the laundry or the cleaning service ,If something goes wrong it is your fault! As a retailer myself, I can only guess that Alyssa(not sure of the spelling) is related to the owner. She has a mouth that does not quit and I cannot believe that an owner would keep an employee like this if they were not related. She screamsif you even think about telling her she's wrong! She informs you that every word of every conversation is on tape and she can play it back for you! Not sure if I was supposed to be worried or not, but I wasn't. she is extremely flustered during the busy hours. She offers to call you back. She does not. We are a highly allergic family and I am always very careful to tell them no dryer sheets, no detergent with scents, no fabric softeners. One order came back with a definite smell. I do not know whether they didn't follow what I told them I needed or my clothes were laundered with someone who might have had perfume or cologne on their clothing. There was also a problem with dry cleaning as the items came back smelling of cleaning fluid. Perhaps the fluid was not clean when my clothing went in. They did offer to redo it for me for free, but I did not want to take a chance. My first review of this company was definitely five star. I had to take it down to three stars mostly because of the terrible interaction with Alyssa. It was supposed to be delivered on a particular day. She explained that this service took longer. If you want to explore the city unencumbered or have a weird check in/out time at your AirBnB/hotel, head here! They woman checking me in was kind and check in was quick. You pay and they tag your bag and store it in the back. You get a receipt with your number and use it to claim your luggage. They open at 8:00 AM during the week and 10:00 AM on the weekend. The location is super helpful and convenient if you plan on visiting any of the museums or central park. 5 BILLION STARS for allowing me to not have to worry about my luggage for the day. I have laundry in my building but is much more convenient to use a wash and fold. I took my clothes here after seeing mostly positive reviews and an easy to get to location. When I went to pick up my laundry the woman had no idea where my bag was checking all over the store. When I got home I realized two things were missing. I went back immediately to ask providing pictures of what was missing giving sizes and brand. I went back every day for over a week and they never found my pieces. Not to mention their wash and fold service is at least $1 more than most near by wash and folds. The service was not worth my money especially after they lost two core wardrobe pieces. $75 for my single bag of laundry plus 2 tops lost ($50 and $100) a waste of over $200. I hate to write bad reviews, but this time I had to. They charged us $1.99 per pound!!! Ridiculously expansive! When we asked if that is the regular price they started mumbling something about a discount of 20% that they offer, but you gotta ask for it in advance. Who does that!? All and all very shady and not at all transparent. It seems like different costumers get different prices for the same service. Does $102.00 for 50 pounds of laundry sounds right to anyone?! I've used Todd Layne Cleaners three times and will never go back. It felt like the whole business revolves around getting as much money out of you as possible. It is way too expensive. And the attitude here, at a laundromat, is ridiculously snobby. For no reason. They fall very short of the mark when it comes to customer service. The weirdest thing is how the entire staff eyes customers with suspicion when they come in to use the machines themselves (like you would in any real laundromat!). They designate far too many machines for their staff to do wash for drop-off customers, which means that anyone who is actually there in person has to wait an amazingly long time to get anything done. It's the customers who are present who should have ready access to the machines, not the other way around. Drop-off customers can wait - their laundry will be delivered later. Furthermore, for people like me who want to do their own wash, the space is much too small and narrow. I once accidentally used a machine designated for drop-offs, and the nasty manager came over with murder in her eyes, berating me as if I'd committed a terrible crime! YET there was no signage stating "this machine is off-limits," (again, like they do in real laundromats) nor did anyone mention it before I used it. So, how was I to know? The machines didn't do such a great job on my laundry after all, and the place is just too pricey and uncomfortable. And I'm so tired of seeing the slimy, inappropriate sexual innuendo they use on the outdoor signs they put out on the sidewalk. For goodness' sake, there's a grammar school on the same block. There are so many other laundromats and cleaners in the area that do a much better job, have newer, better machines, are actually friendly, and don't charge so much. I was particularly worried about dropping my Mackage off anywhere (not just here) because of how much I paid for the coat to begin with. I cane into NYC for only a short time since I was spending several months on Cape Cod & wanted to return there ASAP. My brilliant white Canada Goose parka was soiled & stained from heavy duty wear while walking my German Shepherd in the city and in the cold spring on the Cape. Yes white isn't that practical but it's beautiful and cheerful and you should enjoy what you wear! I didn't want to take the parka to just any old cleaners. A Canada Goose is an investment and should be cared for accordingly. After scanning reviews I decided this was the cleaners to go to! But I needed a rush job, not the possible 2 week turnaround and asked if that was possible. They said yes! They picked up my parka and dropped it off yesterday in time for me to return to the Cape where I might need it if I stay there in the Fall. What a BEAUTIFUL job they did! They said there were a few stains that might not have come out completely but I don't even see them! The parka is once again blindingly white, fluffy, clean clean clean, just perfect! I was not looking for the most inexpensive cleaner, I was looking for a top notch cleaner for an expensive item of clothing and I found the right place! I've had clothes treated harshly by cleaners, shrunken, abraded, and believe me if you regard your clothing as an investment, then use the best cleaner you can find and maintain your wardrobe! Todd Layne cleaners did a fantastic job on a very soiled parka, and I also learned a lesson: don't wait until your clothing gets too soiled, don't try to treat stains yourself, take your items to Todd Layne! TLC has been my local dry cleaners and laundry place since I moved to the neighborhood. Consistently good service and a very friendly staff. If they weren't open on Sunday, I would be in a lot of trouble. On multiple occasions, I have needed items rushed for next day or even same, and they are always willing to help. I like that they have their own Laundromat and allow for special requests. They now have this cool menu where you can choose detergents, etc. There is a new online tool to store all of my preferences and special requests, and also schedule pickups and deliveries. I like that the window for pickups is one hour, which is much shorter than many of the other dry cleaners that I have tried. Having TLC do my laundry every week is such a time saver! Their eco-friendly dry cleaning is pretty cool and my clothes always look vibrant and most importantly, don't have any kind of a chemical smell. I had one issue with a piece of dry cleaning that came back with a stain, and it was quickly taken care of. They also do tailoring and were able to clean my Canada Goose jacket without losing any of its color. I have been using these guys for more than five years and definitely recommend them! Whenever I am in the store, the owner is around and always asks for feedback and new services that I would like to see. It's always nice to see a family run place, especially after seeing the city overrun with Duane Reade's on every corner. read more

Update to my original review! I've been using TLC since they opened in 2006. I've lived in many different apartments since then and may have cheated once or twice with some dry cleaner that is right around the corner from wherever I'm living but I always regret it and come running back to Todd. 14 years later and I'm still a loyal customer. Convenient: everything can be scheduled online which is amazing. You don't actually ever have to talk to anyone if you don't want to! Wash and fold: Do you know that most wash and fold places stuff all your clothes in a mesh bag and then put all your clothes in an industrial size washing machine with many other mesh bags full of strangers' disgusting dirty clothes? Personally, I find that so conceptually disgusting and can't believe I never knew that. Anyway - TODD DOESN'T DO THAT! your clothes get their own wash. Also, unlike a lot of other places, they will hang dry your items which is amazing. Dry cleaning: quality, convenient, eco-friendly and fast. Everything is customizable too - the way you want stuff hung or whatever. Final note - the owner, Todd, is a gem. I mean there really couldn't be a nicer guy out there. Cares a lot about his customers, he's often in the store, and I've never seen him not smiling. This business is his baby and it shows. read more

Rude, confused, arrogant, disrespectful are just some of the words to describe the service I've received from her on a regular basis. I rely heavily on the honesty and good will of consumers who take the time to write online reviews of their experience with a company, so I feel that it is my responsibility to share the absolutely horrendous experience I had with Todd Layne Cleaners. I would have rather resolved my issues with them directly instead of blasting them on the internet because I think the former is much more productive, but they have repeatedly refused to work with me to reach a resolution for the blatant mistakes they made on my tailoring. I needed the inseam shortened on each pair of pants I brought in - just a simple hem, nothing fancy. Even though it seems like overkill, I always pin up the pants myself to exactly the length I want them, and in addition, I measure how much needs to be taken off, write "please shorten inseam 2.5 inches" (for example) on a piece of paper, and pin my instructions for the tailor on each item. Despite this, the first pair of pants - which were pinned to the correct length on the legs AND had instructions pinned to them - had been taken in 2.5 inches AT THE WAIST instead of being shortened 2.5 inches at the inseam...so not only were they still too long in the inseam, but they were now completely unwearable from the unnecessary waist alteration. They charged me $30 for not doing the job I'd asked and - bonus! - they also put me out another $150 from the jeans they'd taken the waist in on that were no longer wearable. The second pair of pants I brought them were a brand new pair of bright green jeans. Rather than doing the logical thing and leaving the original hem (the thread on the jeans was bright green so hard to match), they had chopped off the original hem and sewn the hem with BROWN THREAD. This job was also $30. You would hope for $30 they could at least leave the original hem, especially on a pair of pants where they very obviously couldn't match the thread. The third pair of pants that Todd Layne Cleaners messed up were a pair of brand new linen pants. When I got them back, I noticed that there was a 3-inch slit through the fabric on both the front and back of the leg, where it looks like the tailor had cut them by accident with scissors. You can see where the slit in the front of the leg was sewn up and repaired, and since the cut wasn't as deep on the fabric on the back of the pant leg, they just left it unrepaired. I guess they thought I wouldn't notice...? They charged me $30 on this pair of pants as well. To add insult to injury, Todd Layne had always charged $18/pair for hemming pants in the past, so I was shocked to see that they had billed me $30/pair. When I called to ask about this, the manager told me that the $18 pricing had "been a mistake" (wow...a mistake at Todd Layne? Shocking.) and that they should have been charging $30/pair all along. When I told the manager the issues I'd had with these three pairs of pants I had sent in for tailoring, she told me she would talk to Todd [Layne] to "see if they could do anything for me"...(I guess besides ruining my clothes.) That was two months ago. I have called several times since then to follow up and no one will speak with me regarding these issues or return my calls. I would have preferred to give Todd Layne Cleaners the benefit of the doubt, write it off as a one-time thing, and just resolve the issues I had with them directly...IF they had been willing to work with me. There are SO many good tailors in the city, so do yourself a favor and go someplace else besides this overpriced, poorly run, sad excuse for a tailor. read more

Todd Layne Cleaners opened last summer and has been doing a pretty good job out-smarting the few other cleaners on 77th. Todd is always around, smiling at the customers, and they have a wash and fold as well as dry cleaning services. I am a lazy girl and have my clothes washed for me at a dollar a pound, mostly because I can't stand waiting around. I know, I am broke and a real asshole. Look, I can barely afford to pay my rent or buy a freaking H&M t-shirt, at least let me indulge my inner sloth. My clothes come back clean, lightly scented, and folded into crisp squares. TLC is a bit pricier for dry cleaning than the random Chinese Shirt Kings on the block, but you can really trust them to treat your clothes well. They also have organic options and shoe repair. Woot! **A brief note to the above reviewer... Todd and his employees are always friendly and helpful. Very satisfied with my experience -- I came in just after closing as I confused their business hours with another establishment but the associate was kind enough to still accept my coat. I brought in a off-white Canada Goose with a couple of 7 month old stains; I was worried they might have been permanent at that point. Terrible customer service. I went there because our dryer had died and I had two loads of wet clothes. They will not let you use just the drier, you have to wash as well. I explained that my clothes were damp, just washed (because the dryer had died mid-laundry). I offered to pay extra, to pay for the cost of the washing... still "no". The clincher was, there were no available washing machines and three available dryers. I went to a competitor up Second Avenue where they were much nicer, cleaner and less expensive prices. read more

I have gone here three times for their Wash & Fold service, and have had two very disappointing experiences. On my very first visit, I received the discounted price (advertised outside of the store). Everything went smoothly until I received my clothing. They gave me a phone call asking if they left someone else's toilet seat cover in with my clothing. They explained that they threw the toilet seat cover in with my machine and may have left it in there. I do not know why anyone, anywhere, would wash another customer's toilet seat with another customer's clothing. It's hilarious because in a comment to another Yelper an employee said, "Unlike the competitor that you mentioned, we wash clothes on our own premises and we don't mix different customers garments in the same machine." I decided to go back because it is close to me. On the second visit, I was given a bill for $67 dollars for two bags of laundry. I asked about their promotion for the fist four visits where an elderly woman rolled her eyes and reprinted my ticket for $32 bucks. Today when I visited the store, the clerk at the front desk did not want to honor the advertised discount price. After I pressed him on the issue he agreed. When I got back to my apartment, I received a phone call saying the manager refused to honor the discounted price and that I would have to come pick up my clothing. I should have stayed away when they washed my clothes with another customer's excrement. .Rude service/ Rude people . Overpriced and shady with their "deals" .Incompetence all around. If you wanna overpay to people who don't deserve your money or patronage and give unnecessary attitude and an all around negative experience then this is your place. I'm new to drop off laundry life and didn't realize most places are closed Sundays. We were already out on the streets hauling our laundry around and this was the only place open. So we went. I ended up here on a Sunday because WELL they are the only place open on Sunday within a 10 block radius, additionally they are open until 8pm at night, lots of other places close by 6 or 7pm, who gets off work earlier enough to make that? I guess if you are an UES stay at home mom it does not matter, but if you uh work you need places to be accommodating to that and they are at Todd Layne. I do not care about Organic or not, I mean whatever, I was worried about the "smell" as per another yelpers post, but have taken my laundry there 3 times and so far so good, same smell as regular wash and fold places in the area, so ok good for the environment? great? Well, I sincerely do not know what to say to those who feel slighted. I'm shocked by the low reviews. I own a high-end vintage clothing store. Taking a 80 year old gown to the corner guy is how you ruin an 80 year old gown. After a couple of years sleeping with every "better" dry cleaner in Manhattan, I finally found a husband in Todd Layne. I've been a customer since they opened. I tried everyone: Madame Paulette, Hallak, Meurice, etc. Other than "Mad"ame Paulette, they all did a good job but they charged outrageous prices that simply aren't cost effective for my type of business. I like Todd's services so very much, I actually travel from W44th to E77th for them. It's very rare I have a problem and when I do, it is always sorted out to my benefit. As a matter of fact, upon completion, they often double check a garment that has many problems & send it back until it's right, all without my involvement. I cannot recall if they've ever lost or ruined something but I imagine had they and then followed that up with either being rude or refusing to accommodate, I would remember. Perhaps I might have chosen to write a vicious review behind the concealment of my laptop on the other side of town? I'm guessing one of the biggest problems Todd Layne has would be a dissatisfied customer coming in spitting vinegar vs honey. I mean, c'mon, one person compared a "toilet lid cover" possibly lost in her items from a dryer exchange to Todd Layne washing her things with other people's "fecal matter." A... it was just washed & dried, no less fresh than the rest of her things. And B... who the hell wipes their ass with the tiny carpet on the lid? Chances are, that lady, who has her toilet lid cover washed regularly is probably cleaner than the nasty little creature who ended up with it in her wash & fold comparing it to swimming in someone else's poop. It's ridiculous. You're are pissed if they misplace something & then pissed when they contact you to try to track another customer's item down. If you want perfection, wander on over to Madame Paulette and pay $27 for an oxford shirt to be washed and pressed. For the quality of work, Todd keeps his prices very low. Instead of being rude yourselves, give people the benefit of the doubt and talk to them like they're real people. I own a retail business open to the public, one known for its high quality service and I have to say, many people today simply do not know how to make a fair complaint in a polite manner. I'll bend over backwards for that customer. For those who scream, use curse words or simply have a ton of attitude, I'm only going to do what I absolutely have to.
