My husband and I just had one of the best meals/experiences at Tenji. We have been to this restaurant in the past and it was okay, but now it is significantly better! This restaurant is so beautiful and cozy on the inside. We always go as a family with our daughter, son in law and 4 young grandchildren. My son in law always orders allowing for the chef to make some of his favorite rolls. He did not disappoint! My husband doesn't care for sushi and was very happy with his fried rice and spring rolls. It was revealed that it was my birthday and they brought a platter of amazing desserts with a huge sparkler...and sang happy birthday. Was such a delightful night for our family. Stopped in on a rainy Friday night when my King's Island plans were dashed. For a cold October night, I was looking forward to hot tea and hot soup to warm me up. Sadly, the recurring theme was that every dish was served just a few degrees under temperature. Miso soup: lukewarm. Steak hibachi: lukewarm. Edamame: cold. Doesn't look like much from the outside. It was formerly a Wendy's that moved to the other side of the expressway. Inside is nice with a bar and a couple of TVs. What you come for though is the food! I've never had a sub par meal here. The menu is tremendous... Japanese, Chinese, Thai. I could sit there and eat all day, but the servings are large and will fill you up. salmon roe and flying fish roe are also on the menu. The not so adventurous will enjoy the sushi sandwich. Everything tastes the same, and I mean the same as in soy sauce. Although you will find a ton of items on the menu, there is no need to fall into a dilemma of any sort here: Everything tastes the same. Unless you are ordering something unseasoned like steamed vegetables, you will taste the same thing in everything on the menu: soy sauce. Not boiled or seasoned but just straight soy sauce that you buy in a supermarket. I ordered kung pao chicken, 4-season something, and a Royal Dish of some kind. They all tasted the same. It was wonderous how the ingredients differed yet they all tasted like soy sauce. That's it. That's what you will get. It didn't suit me, but perhaps it will to you. read more

The fish was OK not outstanding. And then I ordered a single unagi which was quite thin for the price and not charred sufficiently to render it perfect. Service was good. Would I return- no. Delicious food. We had 3 sushi rolls, panda roll on special was fabulous. Edamame and gyoza to start kept the kids and adults happy and came out quickly. Don't let the location or its curb appeal (used to be a Wendy's) throw you. The quality of the sushi and and noodle / grilled meals were very very good. One of the best sushi in the area I've had. My only complaint was we tried a few appetizers and the vegetable tempura were not good. It was very undercooked; veggies were hard and batter was half cooked. Not worth sending back given we were with kids. I hope they read this and fix that. Otherwise it's a great place and will be back very soon. read more

To be fair, our first experience with Tenji was carry out. That said, as we pulled into the restaurant, I thought how strange - it looks like someone did a poor makeover of an old Wendy's restaurant. Then we walked in - and someone did exactly that... And they did it well! It almost appears an upscale restaurant, complete with the chef at his own hibatchi station. He puts on a fantastic show, and was turning orders out like no other. We were greeted promptly on our arrival, and one of the three orders was ready when we arrived (five minutes earlier than the promise time). As soon as we paid, the other two orders arrived at the pass. Very friendly staff members, and we were happy with the price as well. When we got home, we opened the orders and I was completely blown away - I don't know how he did it, but they were plated as though we were dining in - absolutely gorgeous, and the taste was spot on. I have to say, I was impressed. Great food, decent price, amazing plating. Definitely recommended for family & friends. read more

I was looking for somewhere new and came in on a Friday night after work. I was pleasantly surprised to see the combination of quality and presentation, attributes not commonly seen outside of high priced, heavy traffic areas. Menu selections were varied with Japanese, Thai, Korean, and Chinese options. Pricing was a little high compared to other choices in the area but I think still within reason. I ordered the sushi and sashimi combination with miso soup (nice as it is getting colder) and hot tea. There is a small sushi bar, a larger bar area, and a mix of booths and tables. The decor is nice and shows some thought and consideration in the transformation from a fast-food to a sit-down establishment.
