My daughter fell off her horse and he accidentally stepped on her stomach. We rushed her to Tennova ER and we were seen almost immediately. The staff and doctor were caring, and quick. I was referred to Tennova for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound due to my doctor's concerns. When I called to schedule the appointment, I was told the earliest available was in three weeks. I asked about a cancellation list but was informed there wasn't one--I was welcome to call daily to check for any openings. Two days later, I called again, only to be told that their scheduling system was down and wouldn't be operational for nearly a week. The following week, I was able to reschedule and move the appointment up by one week. My appointment was set for 2:30 p.m., with instructions to arrive at 2:00 for paperwork. I arrived at 1:54 but was not called back until 3:00. To be clear, the staff was extremely kind, and I had no concerns about their professionalism or demeanor. The mammogram process went smoothly. The nurse was respectful, gentle, and very kind. Afterward, she let me know there would be a wait for the ultrasound, as the ultrasound tech was the only one available in the entire hospital that day. I told her I would wait, as I couldn't easily take more time off work and, considering this scan was to evaluate a potential cancer diagnosis, I did not want to delay. Around 4:00 p.m., I was moved from the mammogram office to the imaging waiting area to await the ultrasound. By 5:00 p.m., the receptionist began closing down for the day. She kindly checked on the remaining patients--just me and two others. When she asked why I was still there, I told her I was waiting for my ultrasound. She looked concerned and checked with the mammogram nurse, who confirmed the ultrasound tech knew I was waiting. The receptionist then told me the ultrasound tech had left to perform a quick scan at the Sango ER and would be returning to finish my scan. Something about that didn't sit right with me, especially as I recalled seeing someone in scrubs with a backpack leaving earlier, which I now know was the ultrasound tech. Around 6:30 p.m., I was the only person left in the waiting room and possibly on the entire bottom floor of Tennova. Feeling increasingly concerned, I used the phone number the receptionist had provided for after-hours help. A kind and sympathetic man answered. I regret not catching his name, but he was extremely helpful. After hearing my situation, he looked into it and, unfortunately, confirmed my fear: the ultrasound tech had left and was not coming back. I had waited over two hours--on top of my original appointment time--for a scan that never happened. Even the security guard stopped to ask if I was okay, noting how long I had been waiting. This experience was extremely frustrating and emotionally exhausting, especially given the nature of the appointment. While many individual staff members were kind and helpful, the communication breakdown and lack of accountability were unacceptable. read more

Was treated at Sango ER and had a wonderful PA who was caring, compassionate and helpful through a very scary health crisis. The only issue I had was when the nurse pushed Benadryl through the IV port, I had a horrible reaction. I'll never have that done again & I learned I'm hyper sensitive to meds. read more

I went in last night with broken foot-Staff were very professional and friendly. Medical team was quick and efficient and with compassion. My total time there was about 3.5 hrs and to be honest there were 5 people ahead of me. The most time spent was waiting on report from radiology. I will likely continue to use this ER. read more

Wait times are very excessive. The care is mediocre, and usually just the treatment of symptoms.

I went to Tennova ER Sango in October for what turned out to be an infection. I was given antibiotics and sent home. About a month later I was back because the infection lingered and had gotten much worse. I ended up in the hospital for two weeks and required a surgical drainage of the abscess in order to fully heal it. Did I receive inadequate care the first time? I can't really say. But while I was in the ER I was seen very quickly (much faster than in a hospital ER) and treated with respect. I will say that they keep the place super-cold, as in meat locker freezing. Also, the nurses vary in their degree of proficiency in starting IV's. .But I wouldn't hesitate to go back if the situation warranted. read more

They were very quick to see me, I checked in for chest pain and they took me back immediately and started running tests. They took an ekg, chest x ray and blood work. It took maybe 30 minutes. I then waited for my results for another 30 minutes. In total I got seen and got to leave within an hour. They explained everything very well and were super nice. I would definitely recommend and will be going back in the future if I have to. read more

I've used this emergency room twice, first in 2017, and again in June 2020. Unfortunately I had the exact same doctor both times, and an outrageous experience. All the staff were wearing masks and gloves due to COVID, I walked in wearing my own, plus they gave me a thicker one to wear, and asked me to put it on. Of all the people....the doctor strolled in the room, NO MASK!!! Dr. Gibson, may I call you Richard Cranium? He asked me what brought me in. Severe abdominal pain, severe back pain, and it hurt to move, breathe, cough, lean over, sit or stand. I have diverticulosis, esophagitis, and IBS. This was the worst I've ever been in pain. When he asked what meds I took for that and I told him that one I take is Linzess, he interrupted and asked why, because it's only prescribed to heavy opioid users. Then he added that it's extremely expensive. He was judging me. He should've looked at my lab work. They took my blood when I got there, and I haven't taken ANY opioid since 2017 after a surgery for kidney stones. So in my opinion, he was accusing my gastroenterologist of prescribing off label, he prescribes it for IBS -- and it's no fun having to take it. Plus, it's not his business what the cost is!! NOT one time in the ER did I ask for pain medication. I was truly afraid I may need surgery on my gallbladder, or that something was seriously wrong. I'll NEVER go back there in any emergency situation, and as for the medical "practitioner", Dr. GIBSON.....he needs to check himself, before he wrecks himself. At some point a supervisor WILL notice the job your doing. I received a pamphlet upon checkout telling me about my condition and when I should go to the nearest hospital. I left in the exact same pain and condition I went in with....PLUS high blood pressure. My experience with the same ER doc in 2017 was just as bad. I had a 6mm kidney stone and he sent me on my way and said I shouldn't have any trouble passing it. He obviously has never had one. I contacted a Urologist that got the records from the ER, and I was in surgery within hours. I would hate to take my parents or loved one to this ER under Dr. Gibson's care. I would never forgive myself if a professional cared so little about helping them. read more

Wife was extremely sick, vomiting and very high fever. No one triaged her, just sat here in a wheelchair vomiting , after she staggered in. Front desk EXTREMELY uncaring, and unconcerned. 20 year veteran of real ER experience, my opinion is pretty poor of their staff and care. Here's where it makes zero sense: You can't walk out the door or they will delete you from the waiting line. They give you a flimsy little useless mask and say "sit - stay". The sole reason I give this place a 1 star is because a few of the staffers are very nice. Aside from that remark, this place has the slowest computer system I have ever seen and seems like the system crashes more than cars on an icy freeway. My fiancé and I came in before 10 am for an issue and despite getting test samples / scans done, we are still here past 4 pm. Please try any other ER before coming to this one, this ER should be your last resort. read more

This week has been a rough week for me. I went into the Sango ER and was diagnosed with Strep Throat. The entire crew was amazing, helpful, and kind and very caring. 2 days later I was shaking uncontrollably fever spiked to 120.5 and I couldn't stop throwing up. I rushed back in and again they were amazing I pretty much had the exact same crew of people helping me and they got me squared away and sent me home again. Friday morning I felt great and took my amoxicillin and went to work and started going into an allergic reaction. I made my wife drive me to the ER and the lady behind the glass was having a hard time with someone who could not speak English and the man in front of me may have broken his finger. I could feel my tongue and throat swelling and finally cut the line telling them what was going on and they just blew me off. I again yelled and now the front desk lady calls for a nurse. The Cuban gentleman with a birthmark on his face opened the door looked out and shut it and disappears. I yelled again and they finally came and got me. I believe the Cuban gentleman's name is Jeremy, he had 0 bedside manner, showed 0 enthusiasm, didn't speak to me to tell me what was happening, and then another female nurse came in and their conversation was simply gossip about what another nurse wasn't here and Jeremy went on to say I think they wanted her to take a few days Jenny likes to be the only Hispanic nursing working here. As he was leaving my room he was singing the song you're dying in my arms tonight which is a little over the top for someone who is having trouble breathing and been in the er 3 times in a week. One nurse brought me a urinal to use and said when you done let a nurse know and when I was done and they would collect it. My wife knocked on the door told Jeremy I was done with the urinal. He said okay and shut the door leaving the urinal on the counter full. The doctor himself was amazing and the crews from the first two days were great. I am absolutely disappointed in the crew from Friday. They had no bedside manner, no heart, no care. It's was not a good showing for tennova. read more

Crock of shit PA Reddy (I'm pretty sure) didn't even listen to all of my concerns or anything. I told him my birth control implant is messed up(you can't 100% tell unless you do an ultrasound or x-ray) and he directly told me no it's intact and if you're worried about a pregnancy you can buy a test over the counter. All I asked was for him to actually examine my arm instead of just squeezing my fucking arm. I will die instead of coming back to this shit hole. I understand the skepticism of Inappropriate physicians that change the concept of accurate pain management and ER visits. I however know about this. I am always transparent and direct with doctors. Sometimes that is looked at as "seeking for specific meds I think. But why waist time? I was injured In the military. I've been suffering chronic pain for decades. Tonight however was the worst experience I can share. I pulled, twisted or something my lower right side back is on fire. I cannot move, walk, or function. The ER Doctor gave me Toradol. I left as I came; same pain. I'm up because it's worse. It is unbearable. I will be looking for legal advice if I go back and have issues. This is embarrassing to be an American. Some of us can be the smartest dumb people In The world. So, now I have to call an ambulance because I have to go back --this is unreal. read more

We have used this ER at Sango on three occasions including the one last night. In the past the experience was good. The ER experience last night was terrible. The ER RN was rude and nasty to us as well as the admitting clerk. My husband is a Vietnam veteran who is 100% disabled. He is on blood thinners and was bleeding from an area on his abdomen. The ER nurse said that the VA would not admit him to the hospital in Nashville if we went up there. I told her that of course they would. When my husband asked her what would happened if he started bleeding again after we left the ER with the dressing she applied, she said go to the hospital in Nashville. I spoke up and said that maybe we should have gone there to start with. Then she said, " or come back here." At that point she knew she had said too much. When checking out the girl out front questioned me about whether he had another insurance. I told her the VA paid all his bills since he was 100% VA. I told her he also had Medicare but that he didn't need to use the Medicare because the VA would pay. The she said, " what if they don't?" I told her that they would pay. She went on questioning the bill he had made as to whether it would be paid. I assured her it would. We don't need an ER where the staff " heckles the patients at every opportunity. It is shameful to say the least. I hope no one else goes through what we did last night. My husband has serious health problems. Today is Veterans Day and he has the after-taste of this experience from last night and still has to see other doctors tomorrow. The Grahams read more

Do not let Dr. Stephen Outten treat your loved ones. We were visiting from CA for a long weekend when my daughter became ill. She was in excruciating pain. We went to Tennova Thurs. Eve for treatment. She was given morphine for the pain. It took the edge off temporarily. They ran labs and did a CT scan. He said all labs looked good and she had a small hernia but that wasn't responsible for the pain. Said she prob had gastritis. She was still in agony. He wrote her a prescription for a minor anti cramping medication and treated us like she was a junkie that was their for the drugs. He sent us home. She started puking on the way back to the hotel after leaving the ER. She continued to be in agony through the night and next day. I took her back to the ER again Friday eve. To my dismay, Dr. Outten was there again. He looked extremely agitated to see us again. They ran more blood labs, gave her fluids and said labs were fine. This time he told her she wasn't getting more narcotics! She explained, she didn't want narcotics, she wanted to feel better. We both sat in there and cried. She had been vomiting and in agony for 48 hours at this point. He said he needed the room we were in and tried writing her a script for anti nausea, to get us out of there. I explained that she couldn't keep anything down and giving her pills were useless. I told him to give her suppositories so at least they had a chance of working. We were again sent home, deflated, embarrassed for being treated like druggies, with no answers and still so sick. She spent another entire night puking, crying and agonizing. At 6am I loaded her up and took her to St. Thomas in Nashville. They immediately put her on fluids, ran labs and performed the EXACT SAME CT SCAN. Within 30 minutes we were told that the CT showed a portion of her stomach went through her hernia and was twisted and in her chest cavity! This is serious. A team of surgeons were brought in immediately and she was admitted to the hospital and had emergency surgery to correct. This was a major medical emergency and it was missed...Not once, but twice. There is NO excuse. He treated her like she was a junkie faking sick to get drugs. I would give zero stars if that were possible, however, the gal that checked us in and every nurse and tech we encountered were FANTASTIC and 5 star worthy. They get the star!! I would drive the extra 30 mins into Nashville if I knew Dr. Outten was on call. read more

I will be the first person to admit that I've talked crap about Gateway Medical Center over the years, and for good reason, but these guys at this new location are awesome! I pulled a muscle in my thigh earlier today and was in an incredible amount of pain. I am definitely in the "big & tall" category so I was concerned about that and not being able to walk when I arrived. This concern was immediately put to bed when one of the staff, Rick, met me at the car and took careful care getting me where I needed to go. The doctors and amazing nurses where all kind, conscientious and caring even as I was yelling out loud expletives that would make a sailor turn their head from the pain. They helped to get the pain down and have me set up with what I need to recuperate. Thank you so much to all of you. You guys have been a high point in what has been a pretty rough year so far. Thank you as well for not seeing me as a big giant guy, but simply as a person that needed your help!
