    Clam chowder
    Susanna C.

Arrived for lunch on a Friday in late May. We were seated quickly. Clam chowder was delicious and filled with chunks of clams. We had the lobster roll, clam roll and mussels with sausage. Each roll had a generous amount of meat. The mussels were so plump and juicy. Not everyone loved the mussel sauce, but I did. There was a big chunk of bread with the mussels which was fresh with a nice crispy crust that was perfect for dipping.

Just one of many in our desert.

Positive: service very nice and attractive, fresh bread was a highlight and atmosphere. Negative: Food. Steak overcooked medium rare was medium well, pasta w/muscles lacking muscles (3 total) and heavy taste of lemon. 2 deserts dropped at the table and immediately had fruit flys landing on them, enough we couldn't even eat it. Disgusting. Bottom line, just go somewhere else. Not sure how this place gets such great reviews.

There are plenty of seafood restaurants in Salem, many of which are right on the water. Turner's is arguably the classiest of the seafood dining establishments and it is located in downtown Salem in Lyceum Hall. This building, interestingly, is the lecture hall where Alexander Graham Bell first demonstrated the long-distance phone call. We made reservations a few days before Christmas to ensure we got a table for a group of family visiting town. We ordered two seafood medley entrees, two fish and chips, and I got the cherry pepper calamari and clam chowder in a bread bowl. The seafood was grilled perfectly crispy. The combination of the cherry peppers mixed with the calamari was a great addition. I wish there was a little more of the clam chowder to go with the bread bowl, as it felt like the bread bowl was just sitting in a plate filled with the clam chowder. Our waitress was friendly and made sure she checked on us frequently. The interior decor was nice, especially decorated for the holidays. Turner's is also apparently haunted, if you want to dine with the spirts while sipping your spirits. Whether for a special occasion or just a regular Tuesday, Turner's Seafood, is a unique experience in the Witch City.

Love the ambiance! Food is awesome and great! A bit loud but all is well. Our server was awesome and all recommended food was the best.

Tried the lobster roll at Turner Seafood and it was fantastic. The lobster was super fresh, perfectly tender, and the roll itself was soft and buttery. Simple, classic, and absolutely delicious.

This was the BEST dining experience I've ever had. The food was amazing, obviously but you can get good food anywhere. The service and atmosphere was one of a kind. There was this lovely older gentleman there and it seemed like his job was to walk around and befriend everyone. He was very helpful as well. I want to come back just to see him again.

I made reservations well in advance, as this place is highly coveted. We were seated right away in the patio area. Our server came over right away and took our drink order. They had amazing specialty drinks for fall. We ordered clam chowder and lobster bisque, for a few dollars more you can get extra lobster in the soup (worth every penny) the clam chowder is award winning and the lobster bisque was incredible! I ordered a whole lobster ( they give you all the equipment to crack it open yourself) it was so fresh and succulent! If you're visiting Salem, this place needs to be at the top of your list

We made reservations months in advance since we were going to be visiting Salem. When we arrived at the restaurant we still had to wait outside until our name was called, it wasn't a long time, but it was still annoying. Our server Denis was wonderful. He was pleasant and funny and gave us suggestions on what to order. I started with the lobster bisque- this has been the best lobster bisque I have ever had. I then had the linguine and clams pasta and my boyfriend had the tuna burger. I am not a fan of tuna, but this tuna burger was so good. The restaurant is clean, pretty spacious inside and has outside seating as well. All the food we tasted was delicious, so I can see why they are popular. It's A nice place for date night, girls night out, or tourists visiting Salem who want delicious seafood. The items were a little pricey in my opinion, but it was worth it.

Almost everything about my dinner experience here tonight was... odd. My partner and I arrived about 30 minutes early for our reservation, and luckily it wasn't too busy, so we were seated right away. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful with warm lighting, classic design but the music didn't match the ambiance at all. One minute it was jazz, then Jimmy Buffett, then some random Halloween tracks with weird sound effects. It just felt all over the place. The service we had was honestly disappointing. Our server Dennis, greeted us kindly at first and asked where we were visiting from. After mentioning LA, the energy completely shifted. Every interaction after that felt cold and disengaged, especially compared to how chatty and upbeat he was with nearby tables. It was obvious, and it made the whole experience uncomfortable. What bothered me most though was how he handled my meal. It was obvious I wasn't enjoying my food I had barely touched it. Instead of checking in or asking if something was wrong, he walked by and said (almost word-for-word), "I'll just leave it there for you to stare at maybe your eyes will get hungry." I was honestly stunned. That kind of comment is uncalled for, especially from someone working in hospitality. It came across as rude and dismissive, and it really soured the entire experience. Foodwise, everything was just... incredibly underwhelming. The lobster bisque was fine, and the stuffed clams were decent. My crab cakes came with mashed potatoes that had no flavor and sautéed spinach that was cold and limp. My partner ordered the swordfish which was dry, and his sides came with asparagus and jasmine rice which were poorly executed; the rice was mushy and overly salted. I took maybe three bites of my meal before giving up. The one redeeming thing was the complimentary birthday dessert, a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream but even that was dry. Overall, it was a really unremarkable dinner and definitely not the birthday dinner I was hoping for. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all based on my visit.

I thought this place was great. It also came up in all the ghosts tours we took that it's haunted! It is known for its lobster soup which I think was delicious. The service was good it was also very busy. I also got the garlic shrimp after which was very good too. The inside was very cozy inside

If you can only eat one place when you're in Salem, make Turner's that place. It was recommended to us by Yelp. It was recommended to us by locals. It was recommended to us by people on the ferry over to the town. Listen to them. To guarantee you get a table, reserve a spot on their website. They have spots available in 15 minute increments. Once you select a time, a little disclaimer warning will pop up depending on your time slot. Some time slots say they recommend giving them 2 1/2 hours for table service, whereas others say an hour and a half. We booked a 7:45 PM tour with Witch City tours (also highly recommended). The tour meets at the Old Town Hall, which is maybe a two or three minute walk. To give us plenty of time, I booked a 5:45p dinner spot which recommended giving them 90 minutes for service. The interior is definitely upscale, and the website may make you feel like you want to dress up, but rest assured it's a good mix of business casual and jeans/T-shirts/blue jeans. We were seated immediately, at a high top. They asked if that was OK, and I said yes, but after a long day of walking and carrying all the needless things I bought, I did find myself wishing my feet were firmly planted on the floor. Not their fault, but just something to consider. The seats are all leather, so expect to slide a bit if you wiggle and are prone to sliding in seats, like I am. We arrived on the first day of OysterFest. They provided a special menu with oysters available in all kinds of special ways. We were a little disheartened to see that there was no discounted rate on oysters. They are $3.50 each. I love oysters, but that was a little more than I was willing to pay. They do have some special clams available for $2.50 each though. We considered getting those, but my heart was set on trying the clam chowder in the bread bowl... that is until I saw they had lobster bisque on the menu. I was planning to get a bowl of the lobster bisque when my girlfriend recommended that we split the seafood medley entrée. (Local haddock fillet, wild shrimp, local sea scallops cooked your way with two sides). That sounded delicious so I agreed. She got the medley baked with the breadcrumbs and we chose the chef vegetable and lobster risotto cake (an extra $4.50) for our sides. We could not have made a better decision! She took a bite of her scallop, and her face said everything. Pretty sure she had an orgasm right there in front of me. I tried a bite, and did the same. The scallops are perfect. They are fresh, light, and must be specially sautéed in puritan tears and virgin blood from the children of Salem, or some sort of witchcraft because dear God, they put a hex on us both! I was already in love with the lobster bisque, having had a bite, but this was her first time. Our entire Boston/Salem trip I have been telling her that we need to move here because it's amazing. After trying the scallop, and then my lobster bisque, she calmly looked at me and said, " OK. I'm convinced. We can move here." Later in the meal, she asked me if it would be possible to have this food shipped to us for dinner every night. I held up a little sign they had on the table. There's a QR code that takes you to their website. Turner's seafood delivers their soups, several prepared items, and raw fresh seafood overnight anywhere in the country. (For a premium, I'm sure.) You're probably here to read about the seafood, but the drinks were good too. I ordered the "bartenders special 1" (made with gin, lavender and other delicious things). She got a piña colada. It must've been good because the glass is sitting empty in front of me as I write this review and am reminded that she never offered to let me try a drink. Interesting.. and unusual. I'll chalk it up to the lightheadedness that followed taking the first bite of that scallop. In total, our bill came to a whopping $86.45 before tip. That's the third cheapest meal we've had on this trip, actually. Which is pretty incredible because it is by far, hands-down, the best meal of the trip and the one that we'll be dreaming about until we come back. Heed this advice: visit Salem. Walk the Salem Heritage Trail. Make sure to visit the National Parks Service Maritime locations. Book a walking tour with Witch City (ask for Michael or Justin) and absolutely make a reservation to have dinner at Turner's, at least once! No need to ask your tarot cards... it will put a spell on you, but you will not regret these decisions.

This restaurant was a perfect experience on our second trip to Salem. The waiter was a sweet angel. He was so kind. He got our drinks quick and talked a bit about the menu with us and helped us decide what to get. Food came out in a timely manner. This was the best meal I had in Salem. It was delicious. The mashed potatoes were so creamy. The sauce was incredible. Everybody enjoyed their food very much in my group. We split dessert which was sticky toffee pudding, it was heavenly. The atmosphere was great. Beautiful restaurant. 10 out of 10 experience here.

Came here for lunch and we had a great experience except we had made a reservation and when the place was about to open there was a huge line for first come first serves and I asked the girl if I needed to wait in line and she said yeah, "a lot of these ppl have reservations". Then I get a text from them bc we stood in line past our reservation time and went back up to the front and the other hosts welcomed me right in. I'd probably still be standing in line if not, lol... I wish the hosts there would ask when they opened who has a reservation so those ppl could hop out the giant Disneyland line. Or what's the point of making reservations?? Sorry rant over, On to the food!! We started with a cup of clam chowder, just do it! I got the lobster roll with the side of risotto cake. The lobster tasted super fresh! The risotto cake was delicious! My son got the shrimp scampi. We were all happy with the place. My husband said their Bloody Mary was just so-so.

Since they were obviously busy and weren't keeping up with the crowd that night, we tried to order two drinks each so they could save a little of their time and we could relax without worrying about if a server was going to take our order again before the end of the week. The server very sharply said that he was NOT going to give us two drinks at a time, CERTAINLY not with drinks of this high alcohol content. We ordered one drink each, cashed out and bounced. The cocktail I got was fine; I could make a slightly worse version at home at a fraction of the price (or even two at once!). We we were told later by a friendlier Salemite at a bar with a better vibe that there is a Massachusetts state law that prohibits having two drinks at once at a bar. Fair enough. Had our server told us that, unfortunately, he wasn't allowed to give us two drinks at once -- instead of making us feel like idiots/degenerates for daring to ask -- we probably would have dropped a lot of vacation money there that night. Oh well; we had a great time at the other places we went.

Restaurant Week, as per the Salem Chamber of Commerce's website, is summed up as: "Participating restaurants offered special two- and three-course prix-fixe menus, giving locals and visitors alike a chance to explore, support, and celebrate Salem's vibrant dining scene." For $45 I got cheddar jalapeño fritters, a poutine burger (hamburger with fries cheese and gravy on top, kale Caesar salad with freshly grated cheese, and fresh, piping hot apple cider donuts. A Downeast cider washed it all down and was refreshing. I went on a weekday so there were a few people sitting at the bar with me but overall the place wasn't packed. What I really appreciated was the general manager came to talk to me specifically about their Restaurant Week food selection and to get my feedback.
