The restaurant itself was huge. At that point, I was convinced I had discovered the Din Tai Fung of the coast. I walked in expecting a life-changing meal. Unfortunately... my expectations may have been a little too ambitious. The good news first: the sushi saved the day. It was genuinely good. So good, in fact, that I ordered another roll called the Yummy Yummy Sushi. Great name, right? Unfortunately, the Yummy Yummy Sushi apparently decided it was not ready to participate in dinner. We waited. And waited. And waited. I kept hoping it would magically appear because I really didn't want to cancel it. But eventually, we had finished all our food and it was almost time for the check, so I had to say goodbye to my dreams of Yummy Yummy Sushi. The Tom Yum soup was probably the second-best item. Huge portion and pretty good. Now, let's talk about the Pad Thai. I have eaten Pad Thai in many places. But this was the first Pad Thai in my life that came with enough liquid to qualify as a soup. I honestly wasn't prepared for Soupy Pad Thai. I left more than half of it. The chicken fried rice was also unusually wet, and the chicken was bland and cut so thin that at times I genuinely couldn't tell whether I was eating chicken or egg. On the positive side, the prices were very reasonable, especially compared to many other beach-area restaurants where your wallet leaves hungrier than you do. The portions were generous too. Overall, I really wanted to love this place. With that crowd and the long wait, I was expecting a huge pleasant surprise. Instead, most of the meal was pretty mediocre. But here's the thing: options around Emerald Isle are limited. So if you're seriously craving Asian food, this is still a reasonable stop. Just maybe stick with the sushi... and if you order the Yummy Yummy Sushi, perhaps order it before you leave home.
