You can tell they just sprayed from one spot and never moved around. The insulation doesn't cover the entire attic.
    Chris F.

My wife and I paid Terminix almost $5000 and when it is all said and done, we still have mice, the insulation they installed needs to be replaced, and the gutter guards clog so bad that the gutters still need to be cleaned frequently. Terminix performed a $1200 mouse exclusion that included putting down a couple poison traps and sealing up the outside of the house. Now 8 months later, we still have mice and we are being more successful killing them with some $2 traps from the hardware store. The insulation cost $2000 dollars and was supposed to include removal of all the old insulation and replacement with cellulose that is supposed to repel mice. From the pictures I attached, you can see that the old dark rock wool from when the house was built is still in place meaning they didn't remove the old before adding the new cellulose. They also made no attempt to completely cover the attic with insulation. From the photo you can see that the installer stood in one place and sprayed cellulose without moving around to be sure that the entire attic was covered. There were some loose boards up there that the previous homeowner must have used to walk around. Terminix just put insulation on top of the boards without even moving them. Now there is an air gap in between the old and new insulation resulting in warm air being allowed in between the layers of insulation. Our bedroom is now warmer than it was before adding the new insulation. There are also openings in the attic for pipes and other structures from lower floors that just have pink insulation stuffed into them. A basic exclusion for mice would put a physical barrier in these gaps to prevent the mice from freely moving around the house. We had an actual insulation expert come and look at the attic and his comment was "man, I feel bad for you guys. You really got screwed. Since none of the old insulation was pulled out before putting down the new cellulose, I'm going to have to pull all this out and start over." So not only did I get screwed by having to pay $2000 for improper insulation, I get to pay someone else to have it removed. I have contacted Terminix multiple times. Once about the water coming into our house from the ice dam that I got last winter because the insulation was insufficient. They claimed that it was an issue with the gutter guards, which they installed. Every time I have contacted them about the mice, they tell me that it will take time for them to die off. Maybe they will finally be gone by the time I retire. I contacted the service manager today and he told me that a refund isn't possible because I haven't given them the opportunity to correct the insulation. I just don't trust them to fix it. They did such an awful job the first time, I don't plan on letting them screw it up worse the second time. All I can say is don't let them scare you into doing a bunch of work at your house because you want to get rid of the mice quickly.

This is a house protected by Terminix. Great job guys

Joshua tried to tell us we needed gutter guards because our gutters were sloping/slanting.

This week's task was handling a potential infestation of rodents. Oh joy! Nothing like having your home be a home for unwanted critters, and, well, eww. Roberto showed up on time, even messaging when he was on his way, listened to my concerns, and took a look around our basement. I was relieved to find out that it did not appear as if we had a big problem, or at least as big of a problem like I had feared, and that he would look outside as well. Once outside, Roberto inspected the house and found the likely point of ingress for mice. It made total sense because the gap in the siding coincided with where the soffit for the ductwork is in the basement. He gave me quotes on the services that were available, ranging from quarterly visits to a one-time sealing of the house, and then gave me some ideas on what I could do to handle some things myself. The service charge was $99, and if you sign up for one of their quarterly services or another one of their offerings, then that service charge is rolled into part of the overall fee. I was super-pleased with that part of the arrangement and I look forward to utilizing their services. Very responsive, easy to set an appointment, and a relatively thorough inspection, all in the span of less than an hour. Great experience!

Technician, Alan, arrived on time and he was very thorough and explained the treatment. He fully treated both inside and outside the house for pests, and was very pleasant to interact with. We hope to see a reduction in pests in the coming weeks, and will update the review with its value if anything changes.

I hired Orkin's Lenexa/Overland Park branch to address an active German cockroach infestation. The…read moretechnician who came to my home was courteous and did perform an initial treatment, placing bait, monitor boards, and other products. My concern is not that no work was performed--it's that the follow-up process that was described to me never happened despite my repeated attempts to obtain it. The service report identified the visit as a "PC 1st Service" and stated, "We will see you again for your next pest control service." During the appointment, the technician explained that cockroach control requires monitoring over time. He told me they would return in about two weeks for another walk-through because they needed to observe the infestation before determining whether additional treatment was necessary. He explained that monitoring would help determine the level of infestation and whether retreatment was needed. During the initial treatment, I specifically requested that the technician pull out my dishwasher and stove so those areas could be treated because I believed they were likely harborage areas. The technician did so and applied treatment behind both appliances. I also told the sales representatives that I believed I had cockroaches in my attic because I had observed activity there. They told me they would pass that information along to the person responsible for my account so it could be addressed as part of my service. That matched what I read on Orkin's website, which advertised free touch-up visits, off-schedule return visits, and that if pests returned between treatments, an Orkin technician would come back at no additional charge. Unfortunately, after the initial treatment I continued seeing significant cockroach activity. Over the following weeks, I made approximately fifteen phone calls trying to discuss the infestation, the effectiveness of the treatment, the reported attic activity, and arrange the follow-up that had been described. The department responsible for my account frequently disconnected my calls, and although the Lenexa sales department repeatedly assured me someone from the local branch would contact me, I never received a return call. Because I couldn't get anyone to discuss the treatment, evaluate the results, or explain what the next step should be, I eventually disputed the initial charge through my credit card issuer. After I disputed that first charge, Orkin submitted a second charge for a different amount without contacting me beforehand. I disputed that charge as well, and both disputed charges were ultimately refunded by my credit card issuer. Despite my repeated attempts to obtain communication and follow-up service, no one from the branch contacted me to address the unresolved infestation concerns, discuss the requested follow-up evaluation, explain the additional billing, or clarify the status of my account. About a month after the first treatment, a technician unexpectedly arrived at my home without an appointment that I had scheduled. By that point, none of my calls had been returned, no follow-up evaluation had occurred, and the billing issues remained unresolved, so I declined the visit. I believe effective German cockroach treatment requires communication, monitoring, and follow-up--not just the initial application of products. Had someone simply returned my calls and provided the follow-up process that had been described to me, I believe this entire dispute could have been avoided. My experience with the local branch was disappointing because the biggest problem wasn't the technician--it was the complete lack of communication after the initial visit. I never received the monitoring, follow-up evaluation, or ongoing support that I understood I was purchasing based on both the technician's explanation and Orkin's published guarantees.
