Not at all impressed with this establishment. The hostess wasn't a bit friendly when greeting/seating us. The waitress seemed focused on doing the bare minimum (e.g. never refilled our water) and didn't react much at all or apologize once when we had to send a few things back: cold/soggy nachos and overcooked crab legs. We had 2 children's grilled cheese plates which were basically toast that they laid cheese in the middle of - neither sandwich had melted cheese. All of the fries that came to the table were cold. A few of the food items were ok but not enough to ever return and it wasn't exactly cheap and therefore easier to let slide. Overall disappointing. read more

New look with the same great food! The place got a facelift after sandy and really looks great when you walk in. A really cool fish tank behind the bar and a much brighter look to the whole place. 20 beers on tap and great prices on craft beer like no where else on the island. 1/2 price Happy hr food and drinks are a really good deal. Food is overpriced for the portions. Found a hair in our food (which we sent back) but the manager came over to inform is it was somehow our fault and it in no way came from her staff. Been going to LBI for 30 years. This "used to be" the best bar/eatery on the island - circa 1990, when they were open year-round and the clientele was 80% islanders. After the latest redesign, its just flat-out bad.... looks like a plastic flamingo factory exploded inside an aircraft carrier. Not only is the interior schlocky, loud and cold, the quality & quantity of food has slipped considerably, with an inexplicable increase in prices across the board. read more

This was the third and last time we will go here. The first two visits were great, but this one was terrible. First we were seated next to a bin full of dirty dishes(no other tables available). Then they kept slamming the freezer door so practically jumped out of your seat. The waiter was awesome, but the food was less than desirable. Aside from the Yelp app being wrong, (20min wait was really an hour wait), the terrace tavern is always worth the wait. I used to enjoy this place so much, but the change in ownership has not done anything good for this place. The menu is is limited and overpriced, with minimal variety now. The service was also terrible. Appetizers and entrees should never come out five minutes apart. It was not even busy, and it seemed like they were trying to rush us out. I used to love this place a few years ago. But my last couple visits have been horrible. When you have to leave the bar early canceling plans to be there all night you know you have just visited a crap-hole and that is exactly what the terrace tavern is. "The waitresses are friendly and polite and always make you feel welcome."- this is a very untrue statement, Nicholas R. My server was inattentive and made it a point to roll her eyes at my fiance and I when we said that everything was great......I guess she knew that it was a lie...... she walked by us 4 times, we had empty cocktails, and she did not ask if we would like a refill...when we went to the bar to be served, the bartender told us that if we had a server, he was unable to give us drinks, even after I told him that I intended to pay him at the bar.... When I am on vacation I expect to pay a little more for service and food, I have no problem with that...but then the food and service is terrible, I have a BIG problem paying a large bill... Absolute worst experience. My food took forever and the rest of my friends got there food 15 mins before I got my apps. I never was told sorry let me check or told sorry kitchen is backed up. I work in the hospitality industry and have worked in numerous restaurant and am disgusted. Not cool. I just went in with a party of three adults and one 20 year old (my brother) and sat at the bar for some happy hour drinks. Two beers were ordered and poured, and my brother ordered a Sprite. He was asked for ID, at which point we were told that you had to be 21 to even sit at the bar. We politely paid our tab and moved to a table. About 10 minutes later, we were rudely informed that we could not sit at a table. I'm sorry, didn't you just kick us over here? They left us alone for a bit, but within 15 minutes were (again rudely) asked to leave. As paying customers, we should not have been kicked around and then out. At each point, they were rude and inconsiderate, just because one out of four was less than 21. We felt entirely unwelcome. Lesson learned. Won't go there again, thanks. read more

The worst. 5 years ago it was fantastic, now I believe the prices are directly associated with how long they cook the food. Over priced and over cooked is an understatement. $16 for a dry hockey puck of a cheeseburger even though I requested med-rare and no lettuce or tomato. My family and I were very excited about having dinner at the Tavern. We always make it a stop during our vacation. We ordered the Soft Shell Sandwich, Fried Oysters, and Fried Clams. The seasoning they used was too over powering. We tasted more of the salt/seasoning then we did the fish. The waiter was excellent. The Terrace Tavern was one of our go to and favorite restaurants in LBI. We're there year round and couldn't wait for the restaurant to open for the season. Unfortunately, the menu changed after the owner's daughter took over the restaurant with her husband. Very, very disappointed with the new menu. Gone were our favorite items. Also too pricey and staff was a bit disorganized. Positives were the drinks and the ability of the bartenders to make the perfect drink. With so many choices in LBI, we won't be back unless they bring back the old menu. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. read more

My family and I stopped in during our visit to LBI just before Labor Day. We waited on 5 minutes for a table. We ordered the dungeness and the snow crab legs and we were all happy with what we ordered. We had excellent service. I'm surprised about the low rating but then again, all of us ordered crab legs. Worst experience ever! We decided to go here for "happy hour" for a friends birthday. There was clearly a menu placed on every table describing food, drinks, and "happy hour" specials. Obviously we went for the happy hour specials (like many people would do). Little did we know the "happy hour" specials are just for the bar...which is 5 feet from the outside where we were sitting. We got the bill and everything was listed full price. A member of our party went in to ask about the bill, thinking it was obviously a mistake. The owner informed us that the happy hour specials are only if you sit at the bar. We couldn't even argue because the menu that was on our table was conveniently removed during our meal. The owner was extremely rude and did nothing for us...but take all of our money! To put the icing on the cake we were informed that the owner tells her servers to NOT let people know this important detail bc it would deter them from sitting at the tables. I thought the customer was always right but obviously not at Terrace Tavern! Save yourself from this poorly ran establishment. read more

This place was pretty cool, with nice people working here. I wish I tried the food, but it was late and we just got beers at the bar. The bartender and owner were very nice to us. They even hooked us up with some shirts, which I still wear often. Clean, well kept, nice, friendly place for beers. Next time I am back I want to try the food. read more

I have been here twice and it was outstanding both times. Their oysters are fantastic. And their lobster roll is even better. If there with a large group I would recommend to order their tt Classic. Casual beach style restaurant, the food is 'OK'. The drinks are better. Too much salt in their food. I had mini crab cakes that were a bit too mushy. We also had fried pickles that were pretty good. The meal came with a graden salad that had some brown lettuce pieces in it, that is a sign of lazy preparers. For dinner I had grilled mahi mahi that was really salty with a side of sweet potato fries. If you couldn't get your first or second choice restaurant give this place a chance. Btw, the prices for this style and quality are outrageous. read more

On first glance Terrance Tavern appears to be your, average, beach town, beer and grub spot. These places usually offer the same thing: a casual atmosphere with below decent food that's only redeemed through friendly, family run, ownership and management. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. With two other members of my family(all above 21) we orde...red three drinks. Identification was provided by the others but because I had left mine I was understandably denied. FINE - THAT'S COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE. Then, upon leaving the "CRABBY SHACK" (pun very much intended) we were continued to be both verbally and borderline physically accosted by the owner of the restaurant. SCREAMING, FOAMING SPIT(I'm talking rabies), and aggressive hand gestures were this drunken embarrassments weapon of choice. I have never been treated, nor even seen treatment of a paying customer like this. THIS PLACE IS SURELY RUN BY THE LOWEST OF THE LOW. So please, If you have any respect for yourself, your family, or your beloved town of Long Beach Island; you will take your business elsewhere in the support of your community. read more

If you want a drink, don't arrive around 6 pm or the rude manager (quite a few others have complained about her rudeness in reviews on facebook, by the way) will not allow you in the building, despite the word "tavern" in the place's name. She rudely told us that we would have to leave and get a drink next door because Terrace Tavern is a "family establishment" during dinner. We were a group of four, myself and my significant other, my brother and his friend. We are all working professionals and would never be disruptive, but we were treated like we were biker gang. I would say that maybe she was just being judgmental because we look young for our ages, but she also apparently denied entrance to small group of men in their sixties. She said we could get a drink next door, which we did, but her rudeness was quite upsetting. I have taken my boyfriend to Terrace Tavern before, but he declared he never wants to go back because of the way we were treated by management. read more

This place was one of the worst restaurants my husband and I have ever been to. We went after a beach day hoping to have good service and this is how it began. The server was not helpful and clueless. He said he hasn't even tried much of the food. He ignored us on several occasions when we tried to get his attention. He made light of it when he came over and took our order saying "our ears must be ringing." Maybe because we had to wait 30 minutes before you take our order. Who insults their table like that? Waiting an exceptionally long amount of time for cocktails and then longer for food. The tuna sandwich we ordered was horrible, no seasoning no flavor. Just a waste of a good fish. The manager asked to exchange it for something we wanted and brought us back something we didn't even order. Wow. That's from a manager. I am a lifelong LBI resident who has been to Terrace Tavern many times. I came in tonight with a large group of friends visiting from out of town. We had a 300 dollar check and we enjoyed everything, until my husband's 20 ounce tomahawk steak arrived. At least 70 percent of the steak was the bone. He mentioned it to our waitress- who had been rude and absent for most of the meal and did not offer to get a manager. A friend who was with us who manages a restaurant in DC said that she had never seen anything like that and her restaurant also offers a 20 ounce steak which is weighed out be 20 ounces of meat. The small amount of meat which he did receive was dry, thin, and overcooked. At the close of the meal, we had to seek out the manager who had not once checked on us although we were the only table in the room. She was very passive aggressive and unapologetic, daring to try and make my husband look stupid. The bartender then got involved, called my husband a liar, and slammed the remaining steak into the trash can. As a patron of the restaurant for many years, we had already paid and were not looking for compensation, simply trying to give the restaurant advise because we believed the steak menu description was unfair and untrue advertising. Instead of having a logical conversation, we basically just got laughed at. It is a shame that a restaurant I have been enjoying for years is run my such unprofessional management. I witnessed a waitress spill several heavy glasses of ice water on an infant in a car seat, which concerned me very much for the child and his/her parents. It obviously shook them all, as the infant immediately began screaming. The baby was soaking wet and i, along with the rest of my party, were very concerned for the baby's safety. It appeared as though the glasses fell directly on him and we thought he was potentially seriously injured. The parents had to leave after the management and staff took no care for the infant. It was obvious that, despite his screams, they were more concerned that the restaurant went back to normal. They did not offer the parents any support for the child, but rather just started mopping the floor. Since the baby was inconsolable, the parent left after a discussion with the management. My table assumed that was to ensure there would be no charge. We were hoping for the best for the baby because it was still obviously in poor condition when they left. My table tried to go on with our meal, but we were shook (not as much as their table obviously, but nonetheless) by the scary incident. Then we were surprised to see the server bring the rest of their table (2 adults/2 children) a bill at the end of their meal. There was discussion between their table and the staff, but in the end they did end up paying, even though their experience was ruined. I am guessing it was the reviewer below who detailed the incident. I am shocked by the restaurant owner's response she shared! That poor baby and family. The VERY LEAST the restaurant could have done is comp their meals and offer a future meal to make up for the hardship. To hear that the owner didn't even apologize, but rather insulted them by saying they're lucky it wasn't soup, makes me never want to return. In fact, I have already shared this with the rest of the people who were in my party and we have all agreed that despite our frequent visits to this beach, we will certainly never frequent this establishment again. All I can say is that Terrace Tavern are the ones who are lucky it wasn't soup, because even as it is, they've really just escaped a major lawsuit. read more
