This place has been a favorite restaurant of our family for years. We always go to "The Terrace" for a great meal and fun atmosphere. After Sandy we noticed the decor changed and the chairs became metal. Aw yeah not comfortable but ok. Owwww. The food was good and reasonable, that our family of four could order anything including crab legs and clams and pay like $150.00 for four people. We couldn't come last year because of the bullshit NJ governor telling Floridians we couldn't come when we owned a house here... so... the long and short of this story is...now this summer we came to our family home....saw our family and ventured out to "the terrace" one night. For four people...We ordered two burgers, I had a salad, I ordered one can of watermelon hard seltzer. Kids had water and my husband two beers. One order of calamari Buffalo style and my daughter had wings. That's it..... and 280.00 was our bill. Nobody had clams or crabs. A basic quick meal and our bill was RIDICULOUS. We have an entire summer and we will NOT be back. We were loyal. We all have Terrace Tshirts and boy do we feel betrayed. Terribly betrayed as regulars. We usually go at least three of four times a summer and a couple times in the winter. The portion of calamari was hilarious as my husband and I usually share. Every single time I eat here, the food is fabulous. Why? Because my father is head chef and knows a thing or too! My family owns this restaurant, and eating here is always a pleasure. I apologize to those who didn't enjoy their meals, but take into consideration that it's not just the chef in the back, but everyone else making the meal the meal. Overall, I would return to the Terrace tavern. The food was fresh, drinks were pricey. But the service was AMAZING. I am visiting LBI with friends that own a home here on the island and came here on Friday afternoon during Happy Hour. I am giving them a one rating but wish I could go even lower. The bar area in this establishment is a blend of dinner tables (with low chair seating) and bar stools around the bar and several high top tables with similar chairs. When we arrived (7 of us) the entire bar area was full with the exception of 2 bar chairs. The group split up with some standing at the bar counter; while others sat down at the high top table. We were immediately told that only the two sitting at the bar were eligible for happy hour prices; while the others (sitting on the same high top chairs as around the bar) could not sit there with our drinks. When one person challenged their logic (being that we were in the immediate bar area and not sitting at the dinner tables) they then ignored us and would not take our drink or food order. The owners should know that this team working their establishment does not understand reputational risk and what it can mean to the bottom line of their business. We will tell everyone we know to avoid Terrace Tavern. Only go if you don't want a pleasant experience. read more

Family dinner sitting outside. Kids had burgers, chicken sandwich. Nicely sized, looked very good. Mom/dad had one of the seafood pot specials. A disappointment. Clams overcooked to rubber band status; mussels were minuscule. Shrimp were tasteless and overcooked. Lobster tail - you got it - over cooked. The bill was very high but that seems to pass for acceptable merchant behavior in these parts. There are much better places to eat down here. Don't waste your time at this one. read more

Extremely underwhelmed by this "restaurant" for the prices they charge. We walked in and they put us at a corner high table behind the bar....the place is extremely loud. I give it a chance because we love seafood....the plate comes around and a 28 dollar piece of tuna was the size of my fist!!! For that price I could have bought the entire fish. Fun place on LBI! We got a table right away, place was busy so this was a nice plus. Drinks were good and you have a ton to choose from which is nice. My husband and I each got a cup of soup and then we shared raw oysters, the conch fritters and the fried seafood platter. We were very happy with our dinner. ***Review based strictly on the bar*** My wife and I stopped in here for happy hour before going out to dinner one night. We did not try any of the food. The bar area kind of gives off a 50's diner vibe to me. We were able to grab a couple of stools even though the place was pretty packed. It's a solid happy hour - I believe 1/2 price beers and maybe even drinks. I was drinking $2.50 Yuenglings and they even had some local microbrews on tap, like Belfast Lobster Ale. I kind of wish I had given that a try. I did see some people eating wings and they looked very good. Lots of food specials during happy hour. No complaints from me at all on this place - the bartenders were quick and attentive and the place had a decent vibe to it. We were thinking about trying this place for some food during our vacation but never got around to it. They have a bunch of steam pots on the menu which is pretty cool for LBI. No parking lot so you've gotta dump the car on the street somewhere. I'd have no problem stopping back in here for a brewski again. read more

I LOVED the Terrace! Their Steam Pots are out of this world and definitely worth the money. The bartenders are nice and you can have great conversations with them. Ask Tom for the "Hulk" (his special concoction!). The waitresses are friendly and polite and always make you feel welcome. Parking: There is parking in front of the building on the street, or just go up one of the side streets for parking. P.S. I read Julie E's review and I think it was stupid. She sat a 20 year old boy at the bar which is ILLEGAL and the Terrace could have got fined for it. And then self-sat themselves at a table instead of going to the host's stand and being seated which is right there next to the door! The service was great, our waitress was very nice and since we were a party of 11 the gratuity was added in our bill. The drinks were delicious, I had a bushwacker that had about 6 different liquors in it plus ice cream, it tasted like a chocolate shake. My father and I both got the shellfish steam pot, it included clams, muscles, shrimp, corn on the cob sausage and potatoes. I wanted to switch out the potatoes with kielbasa but they won't let you. LBI is a weird place with restaurants - there is either a local upscale "snack bar" or not very kid friendly dining. This is a bar "pub" with sit down dinner entrees. A good selection of sandwiches as well as seafood, pasta and burger meals. A large craft bear selection as well a cocktails. There is a kids menu that my children like too. Its very popular, especially on weekend so there might be await. Unfortunately, like everything else on LBI the prices are higher than they would be anywhere else, but my whole family can agree it's a good place for dinner on the island. read more

Arrived with high hopes but ended up quite disappointed. Menu prices were a bit high - but I don't mind paying higher prices for a good meal. But Terrace Tavern's higher prices did NOT correspond to a good meal! I ordered a draft beer and fish&chips ($8 for the beer and $20 for fish&chips - for a total of $28). The draft beer was fine (average). However the fish that I was served resembled (5) giant (previously frozen?) fish sticks which were very dark brown/over-cooked and overly-salty; and the chips (fries) were soggy, bland and cold. It reminded me of what you would get at a fast food restaurant drive thru. I would not recommend Terrace Tavern to my friends or family and was disappointed significantly enough to post this review to share with others as well. read more

I felt service could have been faster and I wasn't fond of seeing the bartender pour some liquor into his own drink. Terrible Customer Service - The manager and the staff do not care about customer service. We were there for happy hour and were at the elevated tables that are close to the bar. They refused to give us happy hour prices at those bar tables. After we protested, they ignored us and then the Manager came over. She was rude and nasty. Food was not great but not terrible. I had the oysters on the half shell (tiny, so disappointing), wings (which had a weird non buffalo sauce), and a burger. We were packed in like sardines, which made our experience all the more uncomfortable. This place gets crazy busy and though our waitress and the bartenders were pleasant they really try and turnover the tables as fast as possible. I have literally been coming here every year since my first birthday, so I've pretty much ALWAYS loved this place. Maybe because they put little plastic flamingos in your drinks, and for the first 18 years of one's life (14, if you grew up in Manhattan), this is sufficient to turn any beverage into a "cocktail." In my youth, I would sit at the bar with my parents, conning my college fund from drunk, sunburned adults who were willing to bet I couldn't hang a spoon off my nose for more than 10 seconds (I could, and that money was well-spent on 1/10000 of a very good education). In recent years, I've come to appreciate not only their cocktails that actually contain alcohol, but also the attractiveness of the bartenders (mostly male, but also female) who serve them. The food is still great, the happy hour (3 - 6 pm) provides something for everyone, and I've never seen anyone grinding on anyone in this place. Thumbs up all around! read more

The meal we had at this restaurant was a perfect ending to a beautiful beach day on LBI! Their cocktails were a definite hit, and i can highly recommend my Black and Blue Mojito which struck a perfect balance of alcohol, blackberries and blueberries, mint and sweetness! I also had a sip of my cousin's Bloody Mary and it was fantastic with a perfect spicy, tangy hit! The greatest hit on the menu for me, however, was the fried oyster appetizer! It was a giant portion (could easily have been a main course for me with a side salad...Note to self for next time!) of huge, silky, plump, perfectly-cooked oysters encased in a perfectly crunchy crust! Had an excellent dinner here tonight. We were seated quickly, even though it was a busy Tuesday night. Our server was so nice, she explained the menus with ease, took our drink order right away. After giving us more time to decide, she took our order, with a smile, and made sure the apps my son and hubby ordered for their meal, came out at the right time. Food was quick to come out, everything was hot, and delicious. My son had lobster Mac and cheese, which was really good. My husband had an app of steak bites, which he said were melt in your mouth tender. My daughter had broiled scallops, and I had broiled seafood combo. All our scallops were so fresh, almost like candy, and my flounder was fresh, and just about melted in my mouth as well. Portions were just fine.
