The seats are comfortable, the lobby can get just a bit crowded but not claustrophobic. Pick a movie from its website or on its lighted "awning" (as some call it) and you are certain to find something today, if not, then tomorrow as the films change sometimes every couple of days. Terrace is my go to theatre. It's small, vintage, welcoming and just plain cool. The small intimate vibe might not be for everyone but I recommend you give it a shot. Not only do they show the recent flux, but they have special events for cult classics frequently. Including a Rocky Horror advent where vendors are in attendance and costumes are encouraged. This theatre offers alcoholic beverages, popcorn and candy of course, and service that goes above and beyond. There is a reason they have been voted the best theatre for the last 11 years in Charleston. I recommend you check it out for yourself, though. read more

My only recommendation would be PLEASE put lids on the wine cups I got a double Malbec but was dressed in heels for a character, and a good few sloshes were lost as I traversed the stairs to Theatre 1. Buyer be aware ! Granted i went to see a Disney movie in a very tiny theater! I am 60 and should have known better! This cutest little 3 year old girt kept putting her hand on my shoulder and her mother could not control her children! The 5 year old was elbows on my other shoulder! He wouldn't shut up! We've been going to the Terrace for years. Every time we walk through the tunnel and up to the snack bar, we feel like we're back on a high school date. The Terrace is a reminder of a simpler time, before HUGE movie theaters, Fandango, and before seats became couches. Yes, the Terrace has been around since '95 and hey, what a great time for movies. We'd specifically like to compliment the Terrace on having big studio/mainstream movies rather than just being an "indie" theater. They host both big and small movies with equal enthusiasm. Patrons are excited to be there and you'll hear some movie chatter every time you're waiting in line to buy tickets. Specifically, we love the Terrace for the kitschy lobby movie items like old projectors and "cans." You feel like you're in some eccentric millionaires home...and that rich bastard just LOVES movies. You would NEVER see an old subway movie poster at a big chain theater. VERY cool. We notice a new, nostalgic item every time we go. Speaking of the lobby, plenty of choices for soda, booze, and candy. We love that they carry cold Dr. Brown's Cream Soda. Who has two thumbs and woulda guessed that Dr. B's went so well with popcorn? We love going to terrace theater on Maybank. It's a boutique movie theater, it's so cute inside. I've seen like 3 movies here and would always recommend it. We love the small feel of the movie theater. Parking can kind of feel a little bit limited, but you can always find a spot if you go a certain time it be nice to go a little bit earlier and check out bar George or some of the other places to eat around there but they also serve drinks at that movie theater, which is fun and have popcorn, other snacks and goodies. I would make sure to be going not during a rush-hour just because Maybank can get very busy, it would be a fun spot for date night with everything surrounding it. read more

Not too busy on Monday night at the late showing. Pick a seat! I've not ever had a "bad" experience here, but it does lack some niceties. Like, parking is a challenge, especially on the weekends. The snack bar lives up to its name so don't expect a hot dog or chicken fingers to go with your beer or wine selection. And where the heck is the "Claw Grab" game? I'm a film buff, I enjoy going out to the movies once a week, sometimes more if I have time. I just moved here from Raleigh where I was going to their Alamo Drafthouse. I like an indie feeling theater but never expected to find an ACTUAL INDIE theater in Charleston! This place is charming! It's got great Shinning-esque carpeting, the theater seats are VERY comfy (to my liking, they tilt back great but have good support). The theater's AC works great, even during a 100 degree heat wave. The staff is friendly. The place is so clean. They show new releases and favorites from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s... it's really a great mix for anyone who just loves movies! I typically go to matinees, I haven't had any issue with parking so far. I hope they do cool events and trivia nights, I really miss my film club and trivia buddies from NC. Manager Amy is unprofessional, unstable and should not be client facing. I am pregnant, running on no sleep this was my fun way to get out of the house... never in my life did I expect to try and walk into a movie and be yelled at to the point of leaving in tears only for accidentally bringing leftovers into the theater after we had dinner next door. The words, "Ha what's he going to do?" Actually came from her mouth as I was trying to ask an employee her name, not knowing she was somehow the actual manager. We didn't know it was not allowed and frankly didn't even think about it. Gladly would have left it wherever was appropriate had we known. Bummer considering this used to be a regular date night spot for us. Kevin helped us get a refund since we no longer felt comfortable resuming our date night there... other staff members apologized as we left due to the irrational display of emotions from Amy. read more

Not your new, fancy, reclining seats kinda place, but they do it fun and old school (and still comfy) and add in beer (even buckets of beer) and wine and other fun touches. They don't assign seats so come early if you prefer a specific spot. What a great little venue! We heard about the place and decided to check it out. It's a quirky retro kinda place which is a refreshing alternative from the massive 20 screen movie complexes. The tickets were only $8 (with discounts for both military and over 65 seniors - hey, I only qualify for one of those!!). They sell and wine and beer by the glass/bottle as well as the usual assorted snacks and popcorn. They carry a surprisingly good selection of both wine and beer! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The seating was very comfortable - a big factor - with soft leather -like chairs that also had a slight rocking motion to them. While The Terrace Theater is not very close to where we live, but worth the trip again sometime in the future. read more

I want to preface this with I had no intention of writing a review but after trying to resolve the situation with the women employee today and her absolute refusal to even speak to me and then retaliating using my personal information I left for the owner to block me from social media I am left with this option. I'm at a lose for how to let the owner know how terribly unprofessional and outright rude his employee is and not just any employee but the general manager (according to her, this information is not verified) so this review is for the owner in hopes that at the very least they see it and provide some hospitality management training to this employee so these types of situations don't continue to occur Here's what happened...After being away from friends over the holiday we decided to meet up for a movie this afternoon. Upon getting out of theater 3 concluding the wonka movie our 7 year old boys and 5 year old daughter decided to run down the ramp of the empty hallway to the lobby entrance, approximately a 10 ft. Stretch. I had just finished telling them no running when the women employee (she refused to give me her name, so I will just refer to her as women employee) walked into the doorway, at a hurried pace herself, immediately yelling "stop running" and when I say yell I mean yell in a very scolding tone. My friend did not appreciate her yelling at her child and asked her to not speak to them that way and her response was "you need to parent your kids" in a very condescending tone to which another patron (unknown to us) now in the hallway said to her "you don't need to talk to customers that way" we walked out with the kids to play a board game and spend some more time together when I asked the man at concessions who the supervisor was and he told me the women. I walked back to the theater where she was now cleaning and asked if she was the manger she said "I'm busy" I waited and when it was clear she wasn't going to pause (understandably, she could very well have been on a time crunch to get the theater clean for the next showing) I left and gave my info the the guy at concessions who assured me he would give my info to the owner ( I hope he did). We sat and played sorry and used the interaction as a teaching moment for our children on people saying rude things and adults acting inappropriately but also on conflict resolution and how sometimes people are in moods that make it hard for them to control their emotions and if they say they are sorry and acknowledge their mistake the right thing to do would to be understanding and forgiving. So as she was in the lobby I attempted to speak with the women employee again to see if we could be a good example for our kids but she met me with immediate dismissal and rudeness walking away as I tried to talk to her telling me "I am my supervisor" after asking if there was someone else I could speak with. The movie experience should be that of great joy especially for young children and as parents we shouldn't have to be uneasy coming to your business for fear of someone scolding our children for being joyous. There is a way to correct unwanted behavior and scolding children and reprimanding parents isn't it. I do want to be clear, running is not the issue, I know they shouldn't run, they know they shouldn't run but they are children and as such do not always exhibit appropriate behavior which is why adults should be good examples and unfortunately this employee dropped the ball and from her attitude I can't imagine this is an isolated incident. I think there is a great opportunity here to be good examples of acceptable behavior by having this employee apologize to them as well as my friend for her rudeness. My favorite theatre in the US! As soon as you walk in you'll be mesmerized - taken back to the time when walking into the cinemas was a true experience. They have a red carpet and an old film projector as soon as you step in. You will see all the great movies with the director, producers and actors signatures! You will see Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio and the incredible actors of our time. It's a magical place and they play all old and new and upcoming films! They also have an amazing concession stand where you can order snacks, beer, and homemade cookies for affordable prices! They also have fun board games you can play while you wait for your film. We just watched Spider Man no way home and it was AWESOME! The theatre does not get too crowded especially during COVID which is wonderful. The seats are comfortable and the space is pristine! What a charming theater on James Island. Get there early, as the line was long for concessions and moved slowly. Since we had to purchase tickets at the concessions counter as well, I suggest purchasing online to avoid the lines.
