We got to the room and the presentation was acceptable and clean however, the ac unit looked age and did not cool the whole room a window was open causing it to be very hot. When i asked for a fan to plug in i wss told to try the ceiling fan which we had but it was rocking like it was gonna fall out of the ceiling so we chose not to use it. Beds were uncomfortable. Shower smelled of mildew upon entering. When we told the owner we were leaving due to being uncomfortable he tried to charge me for a 2 night stay when we only booked for one night. The conversation then became confrontational as i was trying to find my records of booking the hotel and he still insisted on us paying for two nights. I proved to him i booked for one night and even though we did not stay the night he still made me pay 100 dollars even though we were highly unsatisfied. We arrived at the hotel at 3 pm so we were not there very long before we decided to leave. It was a very hot, uncomfortable situation in which you do not want to find yourself in after working outside all day in the heat and traveling 3 hours to get there. They also did not make us wear masks and the lady who checked us in wore it to check us in only, the man did not wear a mask and neither did the other lady on the premises. The owners are selling the house and i can see why it needs updated amenaties.

Nestled in a valley next to a small river in western North Carolina, it is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mt. The decor is simple and vintage. The cottage hasn't been updated much and smells a bit musky, so beware if you have allergies. The weather was unseasonably warm for September, but the nights were chilly in the 50s. We slept with the windows open and we could hear the South Toe River to the left of the cottage. So peaceful. Sweet wildflowers all around and the gardens were gorgeous. The breakfast was also a hit! Be sure to sign the book each night if you want breakfast. I made the mistake of forgetting to sign up one night and we were out of luck for breakfast. They make the granola from scratch and they bake the bread. We hope to return for a fishing trip.

But everything else was a solid 3. Nothing wrong with it at all... But, I was underwhelmed based on my previous experiences. When we checked in, the host was fine. The room was fine. The bathroom did leave some things to be desired. There was not a good place to put your toiletries. We also had to climb into a very deep bathtub to get to the shower... If you are clumsy, like me, you may walk away with a couple of bruises. The house itself was very pretty, and was decorated in a manner appropriate for the property. I would've liked to seen some warm blanket to sit out on the patio with, board games, or puzzles to pass the time. There was only one sofa, and it was not in a cozy little nook where you would want to hang out. The food was fine. The menu is heavy on carbs and sweet breakfast treats. They were executed well enough. But there was not any particular breakfast that knocked my socks off. Again it was fine. The location was very convenient to downtown Asheville. It would be a two minute drive or a 10 minute walk to downtown Asheville. This bed-and-breakfast did not appear to be owned and operated by the hosts, rather an absentee corporation or business. I think that made the difference. Everything was fine, but it didn't have that touch of home that you expect when you stay at a bed and breakfast. For example, when we wanted to use the television, and needed some assistance, when we called the number that was left, the call was blocked. On a whim , we texted Fortunately, they responded right away. But ultimately, after 6 PM you are on your own in terms of staffing. Overall, I can recommend Beaufort House, but I think next time I will try something different.

However, I was expecting this to be a special and elegant experience and it was not. When we arrived during the specific check in time the door was locked and no one was in the front office. It turns out they were showing someone else to their room but we didn't know that. We just stood out on the porch not knowing what to do until someone finally came to the door. There's no reason they couldn't have the front door unlocked during the limited window of check in time. The person who showed us around said there would be "heavy continental breakfast ". However, it turned out the breakfast was probably the very absolute minimum they could provide and still call it breakfast. It was very disappointing. If I'm not mistaken it was only available from 8:30 until 9:30 or something very limited like that. Finally, there was no lotion in our bathroom, only shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap. I would stay there again but I would have to weigh the options of amenities and prices of other hotels. A regular mid price hotel has more amenities than what was offered when we stayed.

I have a lot to say about this place, so settle in for a long review…read more Breakfast Buffet : We love the breakfast buffet. Whether it's just the two of us or we have out-of-town guests, it consistently delivers on quality and variety. The coffee is always hot (and, I'm told, locally sourced). There are indulgent options as well as lighter, healthier choices, so there's something for every mood. We especially appreciate the freshness, cleanliness, and high quality of the food and the quick service means we can be in and out and ready for the day. Overall, the breakfast buffet is excellent value. Dinner : We've dined at the Nu Wray several times and each visit has been excellent. Service is consistently attentive and the food is wonderful. Over multiple visits we've tried many entrees; the roast with sides is our favorite. Portions are generous. They're often enough for leftovers to enjoy later. The dessert and wine selections are a treat. Lodging : We've had the pleasure of seeing several rooms at the Nu Wray and the adjoining Carriage House, each tastefully decorated, meticulously cleaned, and thoughtfully stocked with everything you need for a perfect stay. The inn's attention to detail is evident throughout, and the nods to its history are fascinating to explore. Don't miss the second‑floor balcony overlooking the town square, a gorgeous spot for morning coffee or a nightcap, with cocktails served by the skilled mixologists at the lobby bar. The whole place feels like a step back in time, beautifully and thoughtfully restored. Events : We hosted our twin baby shower at the Nu Wray Inn and are deeply grateful to James, Amanda, and their staff for making it unforgettable. From a personalized menu created just for us to hand‑crafted desserts made fresh by their exceptional baker, every detail was perfect. The food was outstanding, and the service went above and beyond. They took care of us and our guests the entire afternoon, allowing us to relax and enjoy the celebration. This was a once‑in‑a‑lifetime event that we will cherish forever; the beautiful setting, thoughtful touches, and flawless execution made memories we'll carry with us for the rest of our lives. Thank you to everyone at the Nu Wray for making our day so special.

It was such a great experience that I would recommend traveling to Hendersonville just to stay at the Elizabeth Leigh and eat at the restaurants on Main St. It's a very relaxing and classy small town. Main St. is a short 10 minute walk from the inn. When I walked into the inn, I was blown away by the elegant antique decor. The pictures online just don't do it justice. I stayed in the Blue Room. It had a large comfortable bed, two chairs, loveseat, wardrobe, and a few other various decor items. All the colors and patterns went together flawlessly. The bathroom was incredible. It had gold and white accents, but still went really well with the blue theme. There were plenty of fresh high quality thick white towels neatly rolled in a basket. The shower had an adjustable head. Water stayed warm the whole time despite showering at the same time as other guests. Breakfast was southern, filling, elegantly served, and tasted amazing. The first breakfast was eggs, bacon, and thick French toast. The next was a cream cheese, berries, and French toast casserole or 'hot dish' depending on where you're from. There was complimentary bottled water, wine, ice cream, homemade white chocolate macadamia cookies, homemade pound cake (which was wonderful), and beer. Now possibly the most enjoyable part, the rest of the property. The inn has a wraparound porch with big white rocking chairs that overlook the yard and the little street in front of the house. The backyard has a fountain, swing in front of a little waterfall pond, and corner area with seating. There are multiple places to have private conversations with your loved one(s). If you get the opportunity, getting to know the owner Cindy and her husband Mike will be the best part of your stay. The inn is an expression of Cindy and her dream to give guests a relaxing, but high quality environment to experience genuine southern hospitality in the gorgeous mountains of western North Carolina.

We arrived on Monday and departed Friday to continue our vacation. We checked into a more "highly regarded" and more expensive B&B today. Already, we see many things at Bald Mountain House we do not find here. First, Monica is an amazing hostess, incredible chef (most amazing breakfasts ever!), and cares for her guests so well! It is the most peaceful and tranquil place we have ever stayed. The king Tempur-pedic in the Blue Ridge Suite was like being in our own bed at home, except the only sounds we heard was the flowing steam and singing birds. The cool mountain are allowed us to keep the windows open our entire stay, even when we turned on the AC for a cool sleep at night. The place smelled so fresh and was very clean (perfect 100 sanitation rating). There were always drinks stocked in the fridge and coffee and cookies available in the dining room. The tap water was soft and tasted as good as any bottled water. We enjoyed the many comfy chairs on the huge covered porch as we watched golden finches, hummingbirds, and other beautiful birds feast at the many feeders while we looked at the vast mountain range above the flower planter boxes. We were able to do some hiking on the infamous Appalachian Trail, including breathtaking views atop Big Bald mountain. Monica provided a lot of helpful information when we asked, especially regarding dinner ideas. While the owners were on site and available 24/7, we appreciated that unlike other places we have been they did not immerse themselves into their guests space! We hope to return again in the future!
